I would like to express my deep appreciation to the folks at Snails Pace in Brea. I purchased a pair of shoes there last week. After wearing them with orthotics a couple of hours, I decided it wasn't a good fit. I retuned them for a refund that day. Fast forward a week later, I discovered I was missing the right foot orthotic in a pair of shoes I was planning to wear. I then realized that I had left the orthotic in the pair of shoes. I returned. Jaye, the manager was so helpful in tracking down my custom orthotic as the shoes were ready to be sent back (worn). I have purchased many pairs of shoes there over the years. Busy, but well stocked shop near the Brea Mall. Made a shoe fitting appt online and was seen within 10 minutes. Attendant was super friendly and informative throughout the process (half marathon in 2 months) and explained the results of my foot scan, then we did a trial run to look at my stride followed by a fitting. He was patient with my questions and told me what was different about each shoe. Definitely don't be shy about your questions and also inform them of your injury history, whether/where you tend to get blisters, or any other running problems you have because they definitely know a lot. Also bought running socks at buy 3 get one 1 free. Great local business to support, though I did look online afterwards and found my shoes $20 cheaper on some sites and $10 cheaper on the original sellers site. I would come again but have learned my lesson to research before the final buy. read more

I love that they have a reservation system so that you can't just walk in and all of a sudden it's a covid breeding ground since there's a ton of people in the store. It's not like that at all. I also liked that they take so much time in to making sure you get your perfect shoe. I did walking tests in a sample shoe, tried in multiple pairs, did a walking video to analyze my gait and pronation, and stood on a machine to give me an exact shoe size and detailed analysis of my feet. I left with the most comfortable ASICS ever! One thing that kind of had me taken back and side eyeing one of the employees is that there were two siblings outside with their father I'm assuming and they were about to go in for their reservation. The young woman employee was so rude and abrupt when she called them and asked the man "So are you with them? Are you buying anything? Or are you just paying for them?" That was extremely unacceptable, crass, and tone deaf. As if they wouldn't be allowed in the store if they just came to check out what was in stock. Incredibly tone deaf in the midst of this pandemic. There were even other customers there who were shocked by her as well. If she had been serving me, I definitely would've left and went to the new balance store or something. I'm giving this review 3 stars because of the good service I received from Elliot even though I found it really weird that I had to ask him for a bag for my new expensive shoes...I've only ever requested a bag from the grocery store and even they offer it to you before you have to ask so that was very off putting and strange. Having been a runner and buying shoes from this store for over a decade, I was shocked to see how customer service has dropped. I have been off running with injury/surgery for 2 years and popped in to drop off shoes for Soles for Souls and get my standard insoles now that I'm running again. I will now hesitate to go back to get new shoes because it seems the quality of customer service has really dropped. First off, the Soles for Souls box has been at this location for forever but they move it around so when I walked in and asked an employee where the Soles for Souls box was he said "what's that? I don't know what that is?" and another employee just said "huh?". I turned and saw the box myself behind the registers in a hallway - where these 2 employees probably walk by it literally 100+ times a day. Dropped them in the box. Okay, fine. Go to the insole wall and didn't see my normal insoles I usually buy (SuperFeet Berry) so I asked a 3rd employee if they have and are out or just don't carry that one anymore. I got a blank look and an "I don't know". I do not know what is going on but training in literally just the basics is missing. This is a running store. This is literally the job. I'm not asking someone in a clothing store where I can find a microwave. The employees should know the basics and if they don't know, e.g. the insoles, then they should be trained if they don't know something to say "I'm not sure on that but let me get you someone who knows more about the insole wall than I do". To give me the "huh"?...blank looks..."what's that?" is unacceptable. I hope this is just a one-off but seems like something is missing in the staffing and training of the store. read more

Disappointed they didn't answer their phone today when I called to double check. I've known about a Snails Pace for many, many years. A couple of weeks ago, I thought it'd be a good idea to get properly fitted, as I am about to do lots of running. Walked in on a Monday morning and was immediately greeted by Ariel. Despite there being other customers, I was quickly approached and assisted by them. I went through the whole fitting process, was educated on what was happening and everything there is to know. I tried on the best five pairs for me, based off my results. I got to walk, speed walk, jog, throughout the store and tried on a couple of them multiple times. I did not feel rushed at all and was given the opportunity to ask questions about the options I was presented it. While two pairs were clear winners, I went home with one but asked that they note my close runner up in my file. Very pleased with the customer service, selection, and birthday month perk! I will be back and continue to recommend others to get fitted! I was so happy I did because I found out my actual shoe size and now own a comfy pair of Hokas that make me excited and happy to put on to go out for my runs. read more

As an experienced marathoner, I've purchased running shoes here before and have always had decent customer service. This time around, the young girl that helped me was very cold and seemed annoyed to help me. In comparison to the other sales associates helping other customers around me, this girl was snobby and rude. I was turned off, especially when I started looking around and noticed how much her attitude changed when she began helping an older couple. She was really nice and respectful to them. I hate to think that this was based on my race or that her interaction with me was discriminatory, but it definitely and unfortunately made me feel that way. Anyways, I went to sit with my husband as he was trying on shoes, he was being helped by another sales associate. This associate eventually began helping me as well and was much warmer, enthusiastic, and more than willing to help me. She made up for her rude coworker. I was able to leave with new Hokas. Stopped by today with my man to find some shoes for him & my father in law. This was our first time here & before coming, I called to confirm if they had a wide selection of ASICS & the gentleman I talked to over the phone said that they did. When we arrived we were told to check out the selection & as we started looking we realized they didn't have that wide of a selection. It started to get busy in the store & as more people started arriving one of the female associates was informing arriving customers to get a number as they help based on the number you get. We were never informed of this when we arrived & I let that white female associate know we weren't told this when we arrived as I was explaining this lack of information regarding their pick a number system she tells us to get a number. I let her know another associate told us to look at the selection & then she said if someone was already assisting us then we'd get helped. Well that other associate never returned to help us -.- I was getting really upset especially when I noticed someone that arrived after us get assisted. After reading some of the negative reviews I must say I believe they were right in stating they place white people over Hispanics & other non white customers. I genuinely felt this way on the way we were treated here, almost like they didn't want to help us. Anyways that associate eventually did come to assist us, but the first pair of shoes we wanted to look at they did carry, but it didn't have good cushion inside. We then asked if they carry all the display shoes of which we were told yes they have them all. There was one pair in particular that we really liked for my father in law & when we asked if she could look for this shoe the associate said, "Ohhh I'm not even sure why these are out on display, we're not carrying these at the moment."How convenient for them. We got the hell out of here & drove to the ASICS outlet in Orange where they have a HUGE selection & they had a buy 1 get 1 half off deal with an additional 10% off if you sign up for the ASICS free online membership. We ended up buying 2 pairs of ASICS there at the ASICS outlet & we bought 1 at full price & got the other at 60% off! I'm glad it worked out for us :) We would've gladly spent the whole amount for these shoes, but your unorganized customer service saved us some money by steering us towards the Block. After 15 minutes, my number was up and this young guy helped me. After explaining all the specific details, he recommended three different shoes. He went over on all th different specs between the three shoes and highly recommended the best one that would fit my needs. Shoe shopping for me is generally an experience where I end up crying at the end because I'm hard to fit. This was not such an experience. I am a size 10.5 extra wide in womens sizing. Normal arches. After years of avoiding shoe shopping due to this, I came here and instantly had the best experience ever. They have a machine where you stand on it and it determines all sorts of fun biomechanical details about your feet which made me feel really grateful for mine. It's the little things. Anyway one of the sales people recommended I convert my sizing to mens for running shoes and gave me Hoka Bondi 7 10W in mens to wear. I was instantly shocked and in disbelief about how perfect so perfect this sizing and width was. I ended up buying them and the companion Hoka recovery slide in the same color. Decided to finally buy a nice pair of running shoes. Came in and was promptly greeted by Kenny. He was very helpful and had me do a digital foot scan and then put me on the treadmill to analyze my stride and foot strikes. He then brought out a few different styles and brands and took the time to help me try them out. He also answered any questions I had and seemed pretty knowledgeable about shoes and running. This place has a nice selection of shoes and accessories. Place is nice and clean and staff is friendly. Shoes will cost you over $100, but I think it is well worth it to get shoes that fit well and might prevent you from getting injuries from running. read more

Anthony from Snails Pace is the man! He has more than a decade years worth of experience in the running game who daily trains 10-16 miles daily. Anthony is also a distance runner I found out for Cal State Fullerton, my Alma Mater! He is a down to earth dude who truly is passionate about running. He was phenomenal with helping me choose my new shoes that worked with my running style. He set me up with the tester shoes as I ran on the treadmill and dissected my stride for stride to see what I can work on in my running technique and what shoe would assist with it. I found out my stability was what needs the most work since I shoot my feet out like a duck sometimes. So the information was helpful and I was able to find a shoe that fits custom to my specifications and takes into account my strengths and weaknesses as a runner. For good quality shoe you will be paying upwards to $80-$150 a pair, but honestly they run all the tests needed to ensure you leave with the shoe custom to you! Phenomenal experience!
