Randomly stopped by on our search for needlepoint thread and I'm so glad we did! They had a big variety of canvases and threads and projects and a space to work on projects and kit them. The staff was so helpful and answered questions and it felt like we had been in there many times! There's a little boutique right in the same building with cute seasonal gifts and decor and trendy items. Didn't get any pictures but it was pretty light in there with the big windows and right in the main drag. Plenty of parking when we went on the street. read more

Needlecrafter's paradise! There are so many different flosses and specialty threads, as well as ribbons available here it can be a bit overwhelming. I'm so glad I discovered this store so I can shop for these things in person, ordering online can be so difficult when you can't see colors in person or compare products. The woman working when I visited was very friendly and helpful. Street parking was plentiful out front. I was getting so many ideas for needle projects just walking around this store. I have a feeling I will be back often. read more

Interesting selection and well-maintained shop, but the staff/owners were really unpleasant. I came in looking for some interesting yarn after reading their website, and was completely ignored when I entered. Whoever was working that day glanced at me, decided I wasn't worth her time, and kept talking to her companion. When I asked about yarn, I was told in a very condescending way that they don't sell yarn any more. How should I have known that? I asked one question about products and she asked if I knew even knew how to knit. Maybe it was my age or something (I'm not particularly young, but am sometimes confused for a college student), but it felt like she thought I wasn't worth her attention. Unless you're part of the "club" here, or are willing to drop $100+ on materials, head elsewhere. read more

Want to learn how to knit? Or have a project in mind and just need some help? This is the place. I LOVE Margaret. She is such an amazing instructor and if she can teach me, she can teach anyone. She's available: Monday and Friday 10am - 5pm $15 per session (cash or check) I previously tried to learn how to knit at another place. They said everyone leaves being able to knit, but maybe I was the exception because I had no idea what I was doing. But after one session with Margaret, I learned the difference between pearling and knitting and was able to make a scarf. Now I've made a couple dog sweaters and am looking forward to my future projects! read more

Went here for Yarn Crawl and it's amazing. First, it's huge and has a huge selection of needlepoint and a decent selection of yarn. It also has really cute home products and the best part are the giant tables where you can craft away to your heart's content. I like that they sell Baah, since that's my favorite yarn and everyone who works there was very nice. A fantastic shop that I wouldn't have found without the yarn crawl. read more

This is a well appointed store with some beautiful gift items and what appears to be a cross-stitcher's dream. The only negative is that this is not a very welcoming environment. There were only two customers and me and yet the owner/manager was so busy wrapping (slowly I might add) fall items, she couldn't be bothered to greet me. This store has literally tons of threads, lots of cute canvases and adorable embellishments. It is newly remodeled and full of truly lovely hand stitched samples; eye candy to say the least! I was greatly disappointed with this shop... I came in during what looked to have been a needlepoint group and I felt that I walked into some sort of underground meeting where men were not welcome. I've had my fair share of feeling out of place at these shops for being male, but I'm usually met with warm curiosity, not cold disdain. To top it off, I could sense the disdain grow when I began to peruse the sale bin for any cheap materials. The space is fairly large, with several tables, and loads of needle work materials. There's a fair bit of yarn and knitting tools, but not near enough for it to become a haven for any knitter in the neighborhood. I felt that they might as well have just stuck solely to needlepoint as the yarn selection was very luke-warm- great for casual knitters, but not for the knit-obsessed. Overall, I've seen worse selections, and colder treatment from some of the local shops in the LA area, but I just felt completely unwelcomed, and a little disrespected. I definitely will not be coming back here... my biggest regret is actually going through with my purchase there. read more

This store has a pretty awesome location. They have a few parking spots in the front, I'm not sure if they are associated with any of the parking in the back. My husband works close by so we just parked in the lot for his law firm. The store is really spacious and uncluttered. There are several long wooden tables where I assume they have classes or stitching sessions of some sort. There were a few women working and chatting. The inventory was large and varied, and the lighting was good enough that you could tell what you were purchasing. The reason I am giving this place 2 stars is because I did not feel welcome at all. My feeling is that they thought I was a shoplifting risk because I was wearing a jacket on an 80 degree day, but I had been out since quite early and it was not 80 degrees when I left my apartment that morning. Anyhow, I think the least the owners could have done was say hi or something. It was very cold treatment, unlike other specialty needlecraft stores I've been to, which have generally been quite welcoming regardless of what I was wearing. If someone wasn't following me around, someone else was glaring at me. It's a terrible feeling. read more

I recently visited A Stitch In Time in San Marino, CA since I was given a gift certificate to this place not too long ago. Off I went! The shop is quite spacious with about 3 or 4 long wooden tables for knitters, crochetters, and needlepointers to sit and work on projects. The help were (duh) helpful and respectful; giving me space while I shopped. Wonderful! For the size of the place I did expect a larger yarn selection ( Yarn section was mostly relegated towards the entrance of the shop walls.), but what they did offer was quite satisfactory ^_^ . They do have a good sized needlepoint section and they sell some other items that are not craft related. If you're a multi-crafter, A Stitch In Time is certainly a destination must, but for someone like my-self who knits exclusively, you'll be mildly disappointed with the yarn section. Though, it must be noted that the feeling goes away when you rummage through their offerings! read more

A great place to knit, needlepoint and crochet. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. There is an excellent selection of yarns and accessories. The prices are fair and less than other places in Pasadena and South Pas. They also have regular sales usually in December and June. When you enter, if there are lots of people sitting and working, say Hello! They will greet you in return, they are the regulars. When I first started going there, I was a shopper and looking to improve my knitting skills. Now I'm a regular too!!!!! read more

i have tried so many times to give this place another chance because of the selection they have with needlework but NOT because of the service. They are the rudest set of people i have ever met. I am astonished. I went in to get a knitting lesson with a lady there and she was so terribly curt and argumentative. I was shocked how she treated me and had to leave. read more

Yet to find a craft store with excellent customer service, decent prices, and good selections. This is the only store in the area with better yarns but their prices are high. If you ask a question, they will help you but you have to deal with their rudeness. The owner is indifferent. The knitting classes are elitist and they can get snippy on you. The customers have to be patient with them; instead of the other way around. Still no competition, its the only specialty yarn store in town. It certainly is not a warm, fuzzy, friendly place with respect to customer service. read more

I'm a beginning knitter, so I walked in the store feeling nervous and overwhelmed. I was pleasantly surprised and how helpful folks were. I was help with selecting yarn for a particular project, was help to correct a few dropped stitches, and invited to come back to a Monday night drop-in class that only costs $5. I was also there when they were having a sale, buy 2 get one free. I was buying $17 skeins of yarn, so it was a great deal. read more

Had a really lovely experience here. Very friendly and helpful staff. People were taking a class so it was a lively atmosphere. I'm giving it four stars only because I would have liked more of a selection of yarn. I feel there were many kinds, but not a lot of colors of each kind of yarn. I am reviewing the knitting yarns. Yes, this place is expensive, but has the most beautiful, high-quality, fun-to-knit-with yarn I have seen at any yarn store. When I buy the beautiful, expensive yarn they sell, it doesn't sit on a shelf for months; it almost immediately tends to get knitted into something beautiful that in turn gets worn all the time. Way, way worth the money for the quality and style. I love the items I have made from yarn I have bought from this store; I cannot at all say the same from yarn I've bought from other places around town. read more

They have a large selection of high-quality knitting yarns and needlepoint yarns and canvases. The staff really knows their stuff and will help you pick out what you need. If you need more help with your project, there are needlepoint sessions and knitting sessions you can attend. The knitters are a friendly bunch who gather on Mondays and Fridays to receive help ($15 for all day help) or encouragement from Margaret. There are also classes and workshops for specific knitting projects, needlepoint and now weaving. read more

I've been coming to A Stitch in Time for about 40 years through all the various owners, who were very nice and Alison is the crown jewel of owners! If there's a canvas you want, they will order it for you, threads too. Everyone is so welcoming that I feel right at home. Alison, Gina & Debbie answer questions about stitches, threads and finishing. Also the classes are informative and fun plus Alison sometimes brings out of town teachers...so enjoyable. Traveling? I visited this past weekend with my youngest daughter. She's interested in learning how to crochet & I'm interested in brushing up my skills & maybe learn how to actually read a pattern. In any case, this shop is lovely and although they have some items for crochet & knitters, the yarn selection is limited. However, the products they have are of good quality. They have an abundance of products geared to needlepoint though and if we were interested in that, this place would be perfect. However since we are beginners, I am not yet ready for high end materials yet. The ladies were nice. St first no one approached us and no one acknowledged us until we were about to leave. One lady asked us if we found what we were looking for and asked us what we were interested in and answered our questions. She did tell us that she wanted us to freely browse first before she approached us with questions. All in all they were nice. read more

Years ago, I participated in the group for knitting help, resulting in some beautiful felted hats. Now, I am getting ready to have a Grandson, and desperately needed help with a blanket. I have joined the Monday, Friday group of knitters and they are wonderful!! They welcomed me with open arms and wonderful support. The teacher Margaret, is so knowledgeable and patient. This store is in the same space with Hodge Podge, which is a fabulous gift shop. They have beautiful gift items and always carry precious seasonal products. Their Easter/Spring selection is not to be missed. read more
