This is my go to store. The women who work there are seamstresses themselves so they offer lot of tips and suggestions. This is a very, very tightly packed store, very similar to the outlets you find in the textiles downtown. But tell them what you need and they will find it for you! The stuff they sell are not name brands but items that industrial sewing factories use. They speak some English so it helps if you have pictures to help explain your projects. I brought knits to dress 5 kids for Halloween and the cost for all the fabric cane out to 30 dollars. They don't have every color of thread or zippers in the rainbow, nor bias tape, but creative folks will teach you how to improvise. I love that this place has everything a taylor or a seamstress would need. No fuss, everything is in plain site. We came to look for a garter and found that they had a wide variety of sizes and color. The workers are nice and quick to assist. Best place ever!! Wow! This place is something else! There are random scraps and bolts of fabric along with endless elastics and trims. The sweet ladies inside are eager to help and they offer great service. And the prices just cannot be beat! You may have to hunt and dig a bit for what you're looking for (or you may not find exactly what you want at all), but USA My Lien is a treasure trove of great fabrics and trims at unbeatable prices (e.g. Three yards of heart-edged purple elastic for $2). They also have zippers, sewing accessories (e.g. Scissors, chalk, thread), elastics... and do alterations as well! It also looked as of they do sewing machine repairs too. I was looking for something very specific...the fabric used behind the Wrath of Khan necklace from 1979. It is mustard colored and needed to be soft enough to go against the skin since the necklace parts are made of stiff wire and other electronic components. The woman there was very helpful. She provided me with a couple of options. I finally found some fabric that would work. We even discussed getting some boning or other stiffer material but I decided the stiffness of the wires would be good enough. $2 later, I had enough material to make two in case the first one doesn't come out right. read more

Was searching for navy blue polka ribbons for a project and found this place on Yelp since I was in the area and didn't want to drive to downtown's fabric district. Nice people. Plenty of parking. Kinda messy, but if you ask they will help you find it. :) Ribbon selection not as wide as I expected, but they do have some cute ribbons. Great prices too. This place has a lot of fabric at good prices. I went here to get supplies to create a costume and they had everything I needed.

Pauline and the other lady (arg! forgot her name) were super helpful. They have an amazing selection of zippers and thread. Lots of trim and stretch knit. Very beautiful satin brocade. Lots of buttons and parts too. Easy parking. Great prices. They said that they have tried multiple times to update their hours on the Yelp site but the changes don't seem to post. So, their hours are 9am to 5pm Monday thru Saturday and they are closed on Sunday. Highly recommend. read more

Okay, this little gem in in a strange place, right across from a mechanic, but if you do find it and are not in a hurry this is actually a fun little place to shop. Now, they don't have all the latest and greatest fabrics and prints, but if you are budget minded sewist, you will find some great stuff. Lots of old zippers, buttons and trims to look through. Again, most of it is not of this decade, but if you have a bit of time you will find some great retro stuff! Prices range from $1.00 a yard and up. The even have Chinese Silk for $14.00 a yard! Narrow aisles and stuff is pretty mixed up but they are friendly and willing to help. Yes, English is not their first language, but it wasn't a problem. I can't wait to go back! I am making my shopping list right now, and breaking out some of my vintage patterns! There is a maxi dress I have been waiting for the right fabric to make, and I found it here, and where can I buy enough fabric to make a maxi dress for a 5'-10" woman for under $10! Large selection of fabric, zippers, and trim. I came here primarily for zippers and bought 21 for $19. Definitely way more affordable than Joann's. A little more expensive than Textile Durango which had zippers for 50 cents (large) and 4/$1 for small zippers but selection was 20xs larger. I was able to find some YKK which are the best zippers but they mainly have other brands of zippers. This place is a little more expensive than other cheap LA textile stores but the selection is huge. A bit dusty and dirty but that's fine. read more

I love shopping locally and supporting neighbood business people. So finding this store made me super happy!! This store is a block away from home and has a bunch of interesting goodies. Lots of fabrics, tons of zippers and they sell and repair machines as well. It's hidden in a strip mall with an auto repair place that is the only visible business from the street. I absolutely love this place. Yes it's dusty and stuff is all over the place, some areas you can barely walk through BUT the prices are soooooo much cheaper than places like Joann's. I wanted to make a kimono so I was looking for a sheer flowy fabric with some prints. They have a bunch of selections......you just gotta find it. I ended up getting 4 diff prints. They were $2/yd!! Versus spending $30 getting a kimono at the mall. I also got some elastic for shorts. Depending on the type, they're about 3-4 yds for $1. read more

Shop is on the north side of Garvey between Burton and Walnut Grove. 5 stars for the very pleasant and helpful sales lady/owner(?). Looking for fabrics to coordinate with my sofa, i brought in swatches of my own. She steered me to the appropriate section of the shop and was able to tell me the type of fabric and care instructions. Good sized selection of brocade and sequined embroidered fabrics. This place was way better than I expected. It was also huge! Yes it is dusty and not as organized as Joanns so prepare to spend a while searching for what you need. But it is so cheap and the women working there are both so nice. They have everything from fabric, to zippers, to velcro. They have many unique fabrics that you cannot find at other fabric stores, but because of this they may not carry a specific type you want. None the less they have a huge inventory and I could spend hours just looking around the store. I will always come here first before I make my way to Joanns because the price difference is worth it. read more

I have been looking around to add two more layers on my dress. I went to some famous chained company in Alhambra, but they were not very friendly and didn't help me at all---I have no idea how long/ yards I should buy. I had trouble for couple weeks until today the very nice owner of dry clean in Rosemead told me to USA My-Lien Sewing Mahcine Corp. They are super nice and I can tell they are very knowledge about how long I should buy! The manager Lland Ho is very honest she didn't want me to buy too much to waste and the price is half of the chained clothes company ( exact the same material!!!) There was anther white American lady who doesn't live in Rosemead but comes to buy clothes, zippers, buttons... We love USA My-Lien Sewing Machine Corp. They really help me a lot today!
