Pinckletink Chimney Service - Installing an Ahren-Fire system

Pinckletink Chimney Service

After trying to contact multiple different chimney service companies for the last month, we were so…read morehappy when Pinckletink returned our phone call for a request. We had reached out to three other companies, two of which we never even heard back from and one who said they wouldn't come this far out to our house (only a town or two over.) We were in desperate need of a chimney sweep and inspection. The woman who returned my call was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and got us booked with an appointment for the following week on a Monday morning! The two gentlemen who showed up to our home were very nice, professional, and knowledgeable. They went right to work and seemed to have everything taken care of in not talk much time. Although I wish the results of our chimney inspection were better (thanks previous owners of the house), the inspection was thorough and seemed reasonably priced. The young gentleman who gave me the results of our inspection was actually the owner of the company and said they would be emailing over photos of the complete inspection along with an estimate for any repairs we would need to have done before potentially installing a wood stove. If you're in the need of any chimney servicing, I highly suggest Pinckletink. Friendly, professional, and knowledgeable!

Mason and Phyllis are very nice people, but they don't seem to be at all knowledgeable about…read morechimney maintenance and sealing. I had them out around 5 or so years ago to seal the crown of my chimney. Not knowing anything about it at the time of course, and based on their reviews, I fully trusted them as to what material should be applied for that purpose. Mason applied several tubes of Alex Plus caulk to the chimney crown. I was a little surprised they would use caulk, but then they were the "experts" right? They said this stuff will last 40 years, no problem! Your chimney is now fully sealed and protected! A few days ago I went up to inspect the chimney crown. Not an ounce of that caulk remains. Nada. Nothing. It's all gone. We're right back down to naked concrete again. And who knows how long it's been like that. So I called the Alex Plus manufacturer, and they said you should NEVER use Alex Plus for that purpose! Spoke to a chimney sweep, who said you should only use elastomeric sealants specifically made for chimney crowns. He was surprised any 'professional' would do something like that. Obviously, they didn't know what they were doing. Or what kind of sealant really should have been used. But they were nice. So $300 down the drain. Don't make the same mistake I made. Find somebody else.

We didn't actually use their service since they had since moved outside of our area, but my review…read moreis about their response. Even knowing that we'd never be an actual customer, they gave very detailed responses and advice. I have seldom ever encountered such service! If they are ever able to service our area in the future, I wouldn't hesitate to give them my business.

We have had multiple bad experiences with Chimney Pro. It started with them ordering the wrong size…read morecustom cap for our Chimney. After they re-ordered the cap, then Chimney Pro cut down the ceramic flue tiles for the wood stove and fire place, installed the cap and smoke poured into the house when we made our first fire in the wood stove. Chimney Pro then said that the wood stove flue needed to be relined. After getting opinions from other Chimney companies, we learned that Chimney Pro never should have cut down the flue tiles even which allowed smoke from one flue to be pulled down the other flue. In addition, the cap just trapped the smoke! The raised ceramic flue tiles had enabled the wood stove and fireplace to be used without issues since the cabin was built in 1987! We then got the owner Mike involved. His team removed the custom cap and relined the wood stove. We found a mason to raise the flues tile again to keep smoke from one flue being pulled down the other flue. Now, we are hearing that the Wood Stove flue liner, which Chimney Pro installed, was ovalized and isn't to code!!! Three years later, we will have to pay another chimney company to raise the chimney and reline both flues including the one that Chimney Pro installed since it doesn't meet code. We wasted thousands of dollars and time with Chimney Pro. Don't use them!

They inspected our chimney and recommended waterproofing our chimney and installing a new flue (our clay flue was fast deteriorating). We had the work done at a very reasonable estimate. Since the work had been completed, the leak is gone and our 80 year old chimney looks great. We had them back to clean our wood stove chimney.
