She only communicates over text, which is fine, but she seemed hesitant to even take our appointment or give us available times when I was inquiring. She's my favorite groomer by far, very fairly priced and also does a wonderful job with my golden-doodle Marty. Before I came to her I had a bad experience with another groomer out of town who told me she didn't like doodles, but Touch of Gold was so kind and good to my boy! She recently did his warm weather shave but has also give him teddy bear cuts in the past. He always comes out fluffy and smelling so good and also happy. Tanisha totally helped us out. We adopted a dog on a Sunday and needed to seriously get our baby girl a bath and hair cut. We called maybe 15-20 other places in Encinitas, Carlsbad, and Oceanside and everywhere was either booked or do not accommodate walk ins. Our baby was so hairy and dirty we wanted her to be pampered before bringing her to her new home. Tanisha told us if we came now she was able to help us out. We came and she was a burst of energy. I felt she was positive and friendly even though our appointment made her stay after hours. She was closed when we came but still accommodated us. We are very thankful for that because the end results, our baby girl looked like a different dog! No longer having 3 inches of curly hair covering her eyes and body, our baby girl looked so fresh and so clean! Tanisha also told us some things about our baby girl that we didn't know but now we're aware of. Tanisha is very friendly, observant, and hard working. First, I'd like to say that I've had my chihuahua for 9 years. After grooming, I've always been told that he does great (whether it was at Petco, PetSmart, local pet groomers, etc). Most recently, I've been told that he doesn't like his nails clipped but still that overall it was no issue. (I've moved twice so was forced to try new groomers). No matter where I've taken him, he has never bitten a groomer before. When I brought him to A Touch of Gold, I let her know about his dislike of nail clippings, and so she had me put a muzzle on him so she could clip his nails first to get it out of the way, and then groom him after (which of course he didn't like because he's never had a muzzle on him before, but I understood for her safety). When I went to pick him up, I was told that he bit the groomer which, like I said, has never happened. Due to the struggle of him not liking his nails clipped, I was charged a $10 handling fee which I'm completely fine with. I was warned beforehand about it. I was told that often times the handling fee gets less and less and eventually is not needed once the dog gets comfortable. I decided to bring him there again today. Of course, he didn't want the muzzle on again, but they'd done a pretty good job the first time. And both times, I was able to call in and get a same day appt, so that was great. When I picked him up, he kept licking his paw. Then, when we got home, he continued licking it non-stop, and when he walked around, he left a trail of blood on the carpet and couch. His nails on his left paw were cut way too short, so I had to go out and by styptic powder to stop the bleeding. While he does smell great, and I do appreciate the same day appointments, and the staff are very nice, it wouldn't be worth it to return here since this is the place where he, for the first time ever: had a muzzle put on him, felt the need to bite the groomer, and also got his nails clipped too short. Now, he REALLY has a reason to hate getting his nails clipped. And though I do feel bad, I'm convinced that he bit the groomer because he was unfamiliar and felt threatened by the muzzle being put on him. With that said, I hope others have better experiences like many of the reviews and I would like to make it clear that I understand that the muzzle was for their safety and that the short nails were an accident. This just isn't a good fit for us. Update: just watched my dog as he got water and saw a very noticeable scab on his upper left leg. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but this place is horrible. This has been the worst grooming experience I've ever had read more

When I first picked her up I thought she looked awesome, they had brushed her teeth so well and gotten so much plaque off but I noticed a little nick on her belly and didn't think to much of it because accidents happen But then later I noticed three more cuts on her body and a HUGE cut on her head. I'm Kind of pissed that's not an accident anymore that's someone rushing. So she was terrified for two days straight probably from being shaved hard and being cut. I really wanted to love this place especially with the good job they did on her teeth but there's no way I'm bringing her back or my other two Maltese. There lost for carelessness. Where do I even begin.... First off, I'm overall thankful for their excellent customer service. I recently adopted two chows who's previous owners didn't properly potty train them. They've only been with me for a couple weeks and slowly getting better with pad training and since they weren't properly taken care of before, I decided to take them to the groomer for the first time. Prior to this, I've been bathing them myself to get them accustomed, so I thought they wouldn't be bad to be professionally groomed. When I arrived to this location, I was honestly nervous but the staff welcomed me and gave me so much information on how to prepare for future grooming. After I dropped the babies off, they continued to stay in contact and updated me on the pups, which was relieving. Though, I do feel bad for the multiple accidents they had but in spite of all that, the staff was still very pleasant and funny about the experience. I will definitely bring them back, but next time, they'll be properly trained. I cant be thankful enough for the kindness I've experienced in this place. Very well recommended!!! read more

And came across this place o had taken a previous dog to be groomed in 2013/2014. She got me in the same day I called not a few hours after I called. My pack is a little unruly at times especially when it comes to monthly nail trimmings. She took her time and didn't rush. Recently took my dog for grooming. We were surprised and excited to have been able to get him in for pampering on the same day. We asked to do the basic (bathe, remove plaque on teeth, and trim nails and rear end). We requested not to shave his tummy area but were convinced that it was better to get it done. Since there was only one attendant working in the shop we had to leave our dog there for 6 hours. On a positive note, when we picked him up, he was super fluffy and his teeth were so clean. As we're leaving the facility, the dog kept trying to lick his stomach area. We roll him over to inspect and find that his whole underbelly had scrapes from the razor! Not only that but his nails weren't trimmed. Needless to say, I won't be a returning customer-unless it's just for cleaning plaque off of my dog's teeth. read more
