If this company gets assigned as your home warranty service request contractor, I would cancel the service and request someone else. This company not only couldn't follow through on any service items discussed during their visit but they also were dishonest in their dealings. I spoke to them about an actuator motor that had gone out before I accepted the service request. They knew before taking the call exactly what the issue was and didn't let on that it wouldn't be covered but took the call anyway, knowing up front the repair wouldn't be covered. I assumed it would be covered under the Above Ground Electrical covered for my pool equipment. They came out, were at my house for 5 min, didn't say anything about it not being covered. The technician actually said, he'd order the parts and likely be back later that week to repair. The next day the ticket was marked as closed by my home warranty and noted as repairs wouldn't be covered. After that, they were impossible to get a hold of and after a week of attempts when I finally did, their rep had a completely rude and imposed attitude from the second she picked up the phone. I wouldn't recommend this business in any scenario. read more

I had to use A V Hawaiian because my home owners insurance uses them. I did not choose them. It took 3 trips to my house to fix my leaking pump. When I asked how much he would charge me to fix my leaking booster pump, I was told don't worry about the cost, he will do it for inconvenience you have had to go through. Well, he changed the fitting on my booster pump and it is leaking more than it was before he changed it! Not to mention that you can never get a hold of somebody on the phone. I had to leave a message every time I called. I even had to call to figure out why I hadn't heard back from them. I will never use this company again. I am actually getting ready to call my home warranty and tell them about the crappy service that I have received. read more

This company was hired to make repairs to our pool and unfortunatly, the specific components he supposedly worked on are not functioning properly. After multiple calls, there has been no response, My real estate agent has also contacted him and he simply refuses to look at the pool to back his work without charging additional fees. My pool pump died. My home warranty company requested service from A V Hawaiian, and they responded promptly. Chris the technician was here on time and diagnosed the problem. He took the old pump, said he'd order a replacement, and would let me know when he got it in a few days. As promised, he called me in a few days, came out, and quickly installed the new pump. In fact, Chris always goes totally above and beyond the call to make sure everything's right. He is extremely kind, does great work, and explains what he was doing each step of the way. Do not listen to the good reviews, trust me. They do not apply to this company. Either the good reviews are friends or relatives. I have had this company out a number of times because they are the only vendor that my home warranty will send out. They are unethical and do not discuss with you what is wrong. They installed an illegal, undocumented, unregistered, pump in my backyard with no UL listings or documentation on the pump. Highly unprofessional and not up to building codes. Do not use them if you have to spend your own dime. I am fighting with the home warranty company as I speak about their behavior and illegal activity. I have filed a complaint about the home warranty company with the Dept of Insurance with AV Hawaiian mentioned in the complaint. read more

My warranty company sent them out to come repair my spa. Rob came out and said there was rodent damage. I asked based on what, no answer. My control panel was working before he got here. He left and everything is completely gone. Rob destroyed my spa on purpose and then told the warranty company that there are rodents so that warranty would not cover it. They are crooks, and if you let them get near your house it's your fault that you didn't listen to this review. Stay away, run away from this scam! read more

Our pool's timer box (clock dials & breaker) recently failed and our home warranty company sent the repair request to A V Hawaiian. When I first looked at their Yelp ratings I was very concerned, however I found that Rob and Chris were prompt and professional. They replaced the failed equipment and answered all of my questions. In my opinion, these guys are in a tough situation when they are dealing with issues that are outside of what the warranty company will cover or when they are confronted with evidence that a pool owner was grossly negligent in maintaining the equipment. In my experience, they had my best interests in mind and they were not checking filters or otherwise probing for any reason to void our warranty, I recommended that they start encouraging their customers to leave feedback on Yelp so a more accurate picture gets painted for future/potential customers. read more

Recently purchased a home with a pool. After a couple of weeks the pump motor quit. We called the home warranty company and the next day AV came out. Chris and his assistant determined that indeed the pump was dead. Offered us a rebuilt per the Home Warranty Co. but we opted for a new one which cost an additional $125 (plus service call). We were very pleased with their service, knowledge, and timeliness. I took the opportunity to ask Chris questions about converting a chlorine pool to saltwater and found him very informed as to the issues involved taking the time to explain the pros and cons. Reading all the reviews that specifically mention the fact that Home Warranty companies use these guys gives me major validation. I've had these guys out twice and both times they say there's nothing wrong with the equipment. However, my research tells me (as does common sense) that the pump should not run nearly 24/7 - even with the heater off. AV was sent out via our home warranty company. I always do my research and when I saw the other yelp reviews I called our warranty company and requested a different contractor. The warranty company refused, because I personally had not had an issue with AV Hawaiian yet. So AV came out and seemed very pleasant, but literally spent no more than 5 min looking at our pool equipment and left. Robbie was supposed to come out for an issue with our pump, as he was leaving I casually mentioned something about our filter. Due to other yelp reviews I made sure that these "techs" were never unsupervised while they were on my property. When we got the report Robbie sent in to our warranty company I was livid. The report Robbie turned in stated that our filter was damaged, but it was obviously a pre-exsisting condition because the pool was cloudy. 1. I was standing there the entire time and Robbie and his tech never once even opened up and looked at my filter. 2. How in the hell could you possibly know that this "issue" was a preexisiting condition? 3. He never even mentioned the pump in his report which was the entire reason for being called out in the first place. I wondered when I saw that this company is based on Colfax why they were willing to come all the way to Carmichael. Now I know. Robbie also mentioned that he gets paid by the warranty company no matter what. I would bet good money that someone from the warranty company is giving these guys kick backs for denying claims as well. I am in the process of filing a small claims suit against the warranty company for negligence for continuing to do business with a clearly corrupt and incompetent pool company. I encourage anyone else that has had a similar experience to do the same. At the very least these scum bags should loose as much business as possible. read more

I really don't understand all of those negative reviews. I've been working with AV Hawaiian for 10 years now. About once a year something goes wrong with my heater or pump. They've always been prompt, never once have they tried to upsell me on anything, and have always done the job to my satisfaction. One big difference I do see, is that I do not have a home warranty. I've never had to pay more than $100 for any of the repairs over the last 10 years though. They've been very professional with me. AV Hawaiian came to my house via our home warranty company to repair a broken pump. Unfortunately they misdiagnosed issue and said the filters had been neglected and caused the pump to burn up. I had a second company come out to check and it turns out the filters weren't the issue, it was a check valve that had stuck shut after a spring broke. The misdiagnosis ulitmately cost me more than $800 in parts, troubleshooting and labor. read more

I've had the pleasure this year of working with AV Hawaiian on two separate occasions. Robbie came out to work on my parents home, and I was running late and he went ahead and got started. He found issues with the spa and told me with confidence he had found the issue. He was right! Earlier in the year , Chris came out and had replaced the heater through my home warranty. I had another company previously come out and tell me they could replace the heater but I'll have to pay $400 for wiring that isn't covered! A V HawaiiN not only did a great job replacing the heater but also they didn't require $400 for wiring work that wasn't needed. Honest and reliable company, I've dealt with Robbie and Chris over the past year on two separate issues and I felt very comfortable compared to several previous companies looking to make a quick dollar and run. Very responsive! Got our pool/spa heater and motor fixed quickly and courteously. Worked well with our home warranty company too.

The original service call was placed by our Home Warranty Company in August 2016, that's another problem. After the 2nd motor installed by AVH burned up (both within a week of installation) we paid over $2100 out of our pocket for an up-graded motor. Which included a computer board for the unit outside and a board for the unit inside the home. Robby did not know how to program the unit so he was back several times and had to call technical support each time. We had to wait a week and longer between each visit. AND no they do not answer the phone, not until we started giving money. After 3 months we finally called a third party out to inspect the installation by AVH, at our expense. It was reported: 'The VST pump (installed at my home) no longer communicates with the Jandy system (the equipment at our home). Due to the change from a six pole motor on the VS pumps to an 8 pole motor on the VST2, the pump will run but does not change speeds.' It was also explained to us that the Jandy/Aqualink control unit in the house is not telling the pump to change speeds. The pump has not been performing as a variable speed; it's running at the same speed. Come spring when the solar to the pool is activated the additional pull required from the pump would not be there and will burn up. It was also mentioned that this pump was wired incorrectly. I called the Home Warranty Company to complain, they were not interested, as I will not be interested when they come to renew their contract. I'm in the process of starting small claims proceedings. AVH is ignoring that as well. read more

Terrible. The motor they installed 6 months ago quit working. I called for service. I waited around two different days and nobody ever showed up or even called to say they couldn't make it. Now I find out I have to pay a service fee of $85 for them to come out and fix a defective motor they installed. They did not call to tell me this. In fact, their tech didn't even bother to let me know he was here. I had to call to find out what was going on. Their communication leaves much to be desired. I am not happy. If the motor hadn't been installed by them in the first place, I'd find another company to do the work. This is unfortunate. I will never call them for service again. No excuse. read more

Chris was on time, very knowable, professional, and gave me a full understanding of what he could work on and what was not covered by my home warranty. He had to make two trips because he did not have the parts that I needed on him, mainly because my spa is so old. Fidelity Home Warranty sent AV Hawaiian out, who in turn sent out Chris to fix my back wash valve. He's got pool knowledge that's for sure. But 3 months after he replaced the backwash valve, it's not working. The company that services my pool said that he should've replaced the entire part (PVC pipe that comes with the backwash valve), but AV Hawaiian didn't mention anything about it. Either way, the part Chris replaced is still broken and I'm in the process of getting AVH to assist in fixing it. I'll check back once I know the outcome. read more
