Several months ago I got the worst haircut of my life (and that's saying something) at a place called TGF Haircutters. The right front was several inches shorter than the left front, and the lady put layers in my hair even though I told her I did NOT want ANY layers because they don't look right and I am trying to grow my hair out. My hair looked like a toddler scissored it while I was sleeping or something. I was too embarrassed to wear my hair down at all. I went back there and showed the manager who apologized, said he could try to fix it but it would require drastically shortening my already too short hair. He then gave me a card to get my next haircut free. Pshaw, like I'd ever go back there! Cut to a few weeks ago. A Zany Do opened up just down the street from my work. It looked like a higher end place so I went inside during my lunch break and made a same-day appointment for after 5PM. I got Sarah. I immediately launched into my story (above) and said I did not know if she could do anything for me but I had to ask. She was so patient and understanding. She told me how sorry she was that I had to go through that experience, and thanked me for trusting her. She said she could fix it in 2 haircuts. Guess what? As far as I'm concerned she fixed it in ONE! My hair does not look any shorter overall, but the appearance of the layers and the uneven chop job is drastically minimized! I can't believe what a difference she made and I have no idea how she did it. As far as I am concerned, Sarah has magical powers! Best part? It cost me only a few dollars more than I normally spend at those stupid corp owned haircutters where you have to translate what you want into another language so they understand you. I am so very very pleased. A Zany Do is my go-to place for hair, forever, period. Other notes of interest: The decor is amazing, a very homey yet high-end Texan sort of feel. The ladies who work there have worked with each other for YEARS and try to perpetuate a drama-free environment. Props to that! Everyone is so nice and welcoming, you real feel like you are part of a special experience (rather than feeling like you are burdening some beauty-school dropout with 20 minutes of work). If you've ever had a bad experience with TGF, Supercuts, etc, I urge you to give A Zany Do a try. You will not regret it. read more

First, this is not a "normal" salon. This is more like a crazy (they do warn you in the name), happy family who likes making people feel good and look pretty. I've never found another salon like it, as most are cold and "posh" and polished with techno playing. This place is not for people looking for LA. This place is for people looking for central Texas. I've been a customer/friend of the gals at Zany Do since they were at their old location on 79 by Sunrise (now they're on Sam Bass road west of 35). They've watched me grow up and are the nicest people to be around and have done my hair for everything (my first highlights, bangs, no bangs, darker, lighter, prom three times, wedding hair and pre-wedding hair, short, long, etc). By the way, the girls here KNOW their up-do's for special events and make it a party while you're getting it done. A great place to go for proms and formal hair-do's since it just adds to the fun and you look beautiful after. Michelle is a master at hair color and the only person I've trusted coloring my hair. After 5 years of living away, I came back and she still had the perfect color for me on file! I get my hair cut closer to home since I'm an hour away, but I make special arrangements for color. Jennifer (their massage therapist) is a magician with her hands and you learn SO much about you body and how to treat it with just a single massage. I hate massages and I still go to her when my legs are sore after running. She is a true master of her craft and very open with sharing her knowledge. Denise (skin care) has WONDERFUL facials and even managed to not make my skin break out after, which has never happened before with any facial I've had since I have very sensitive skin. The techniques she uses are very gentle yet extremely effective at removing impurities, black heads, dryness, etc. I've finally found a skin care routine that work for me thanks to her. read more

The TALENTED work here! What a perfect, beautiful, full-service salon and spa this is! A Zany Do has everything to pamper yourself. You can get a massage, your nails done, and a new fresh look all at the same wonderful fun place. These ladies are energetic, friendly, and very talented and insightful. They listen and know what's perfect for you. I went in last week after Alicia's raving review, and seeing how great she looked, I had to give it a try. I also had an appt with Kristen and she took a good look at my dry frizzy uneven mess, and turned it into a soft luxurious highlighted head of hair. I had a cut and highlights put in that were a perfect blend of warm browns and light highlights. She styled my hair perfectly and I couldn't be happier! Then, yesterday, I went in for my appt with Kimberly to have my nails done. Kimberly is awesome to talk to. She's been doing nails all her life and she was able to pull of a Wild & Fun "Tiger Stripe" look for me... not an easy feat! She did an awesome job. Just bring in a picture of a pattern or style you would like and she can go from there. She's amazing. Call and make an appointment. You won't be disappointed. P.S. I have been going to A Zany Do Salon and Spa for quite a few years. I have never had a bad hair style or cut from them and that is saying something since I go weekly for my hair appointments. I also go every other week for nails and once a month for pedicures. Occasionally I go to Jennifer for a massage on whatever I muscle I have irritated. I also try to see Denise the licensed aesthetician for a facial every couple months or so. I may go in the salon on any give day down or depressed, but never leave without feeling better and a wearing a smile on my face thanks to the laughter and friendship these ladies offer along with their amazing abilities with hair, color etc etc etc. I highly recommend this salon read more

So I went to have cut , color and highlights by Kristin today. She did an excellent job. I was very happy. I'm new to the area and was nervous about using a new hairdresser. She was friendly, professional , listened to my concerns and made suggestions. My hair was fried from highlighting it. She colored and highlighted it., leaving it shiny and healthy. She gave me great haircut too. My hair looks and feels great. She's definitely a keeper! The salon is warm, friendly and has a nice astmosphere. My friend went for a facial a while back and she loved it. Their prices are good too and they use excellent hair care products. read more

I have been going here for years and love it. My stylist Michelle is Awesome! Just last week she gave me a brow wax, cut and 2 color highlights that turned out amazing! I've had several compliments on my hair and when asked where I get it done. I gladly tell them A Zany Do Salon & Spa. I would never go anywhere else. Michelle cut my hair. I'm pretty easy to please, I usually leave it up to the professional for their advice about what would look best for me. She did a fantastic job, and I will be going back. Prices are good compared to other salons in the area. I had 2 other friends refer me to this place, before I tried it myself. Both have been using this establishment for several years. I had my first appointment for a haircut at A-Zany-Do today and Wow. I am beyond in love with my hair! Ms. Kristin was my stylist today and she did an AMAZINGG job! My hair was beyond damaged from everything I've put it through in the past 2 years. She cut and styled my hair so beautifully. I have had such a hard time being able to find someone who understood my damaged hair. My hair looks and feels so healthy. Not only was i satisfied with my cut but they treat you so kindly. Well, I'll just say this... Anna is the only one that I have trusted for over 14 years to cut and color my hair. She was recommended to me by one of my colleagues when I first moved to the Austin area and she has been my hairdresser ever since. I have a very unique strawberry blonde hair color and she always takes the time to match it perfectly every time. Over the years I have received so many compliments thanks to her. I would stay far away from this place. I use to go to Shawn for regular cuts until she combed my hair so hard that my scalp was bleeding after I left. I told my mom I never want to go back in this place. Michelle had also cut my hair once, but it was cut so crooked, that she had to take me to a different place to get it corrected. I highly recommend Sarah Johnson for formal occasions! She did the hair for my sisters wedding. She was honest, easy to talk to, patient with each of us, and even willing to take on two more brides maids who decided last minute they wanted their hair done after seeing the rest of us.
