Great spot for beer and American bar style food. I was impressed with the quality of the ingredients. The fried were very good and I felt like it was a good sign. People compare this to Applebee's or the 99, but i think it's much better. Service was friendly but they seemed very short handed. There are sooo many take out orders that the staff seemed to need more people to get them done. Our waitress was all over the place running from table to kitchen, but she was awesome. Ordered the chicken fingers and for $20 I think it was a good deal. I took some home because I couldn't finish. I saw another table with a chicken sandwich and want to get the next time. Other than the great service, the food was mediocre at best. The nachos were the best thing we ate. They were pretty good - nothing crazy. The Nashville hot chicken tenders were absolutely flavorless and leave a weird film in your mouth.. very odd. The brisket grilled cheese was okay - the meat was very fatty but the bread was good! The fries were crispy but lacked any flavor - definitely needed salt. The bill for one appetizer, two entrees and two sodas was over 70 dollars... kind of ridiculous for the quality of food. I have been to Red Heat Tavern a few times now (Dine in, pick-up) and have to say that the food is great (better when hot and dining in) and works well for family, work, friends. The menu does change so going off "current" offerings from the last time I was there I have to call out the jumbo tater tots. Deep fried goodness with their added cheese blends make this a must have appetizer. Their burgers are solid, the meals are good too. I do substitute for the Brussel sprouts with bacon because I feel it makes me feel semi healthier with all the liberties I take otherwise when I order. Nice staff, good service, and well done food. Not the lowest of prices but I feel you get good quality based on what you pay for. read more

We are traveling from Virginia to Maine on vacation. After using Yelp to find restaurants in Westborough, MA that had 4 or more star reviews on more than 50 reviews we decided to eat at Red Heat Tavern. Don't let the location (unusual dead strip shopping area) deceive you! Red Heat was awesome. Seating was available at tables, booths and high tops. We got lucky and sat at a table near the open kitchen where we could enjoy the "dance" of food being prepared, take out orders bagged and hot food being delivered. Benjamin, our server, was friendly, and attentive and happy to make custom alterations to how my honey mustard salad with grilled chicken was presented. It was fresh and the chicken was moist and warm. My husband had the Nashville hot chicken with onion straws. The temperature of the sandwich when it arrived at the table required time to cool a bit. The spice level was perfect! The onion straws were onion rings, lightly breaded and oh so delicious. He had 2 different beers, a Kona wave and another from a local brewery, both reasonably priced. Have been here a bunch of times. The wings were some of the best I've ever had. The only negative was the buffalo sauce was kind of gross. It was like a mix of hot sauce and ketchup. It was nice to see in addition to all the favorites, they included smoked brisket in a couple dishes - We ordered smoked brisket nachos, and smoked brisket grilled cheese - all were fantastic. The serving staff all seemed nice and the kitchen delivered quickly (*it wasn't super busy.) Only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because a manager or hostess (not sure of his role) couldn't leave the staff alone to do their jobs. As a huge fan of Burton's Bar and Grill, I was surprised to learn that this restaurant was owned by the brand. After a quick look at their menu, everything sounded incredibly tasty and creative, so I decided to head out there. Sadly, nothing lived up to the amazing menu descriptions. Everything was bland and tasteless ... EVERYTHING! They say they use some sort of a hybrid smoker/bbq stone oven to cook things ... it seemed like cheaply made packaged food that was reheated on a grill that had a little smoker for taste. I decided to get creative and share the actual copy from the restaurant menu and then re-write it for you with what it actually tasted like. First, I will mention that they did trivia on the night we were there and it was so loud and annoying ... there wasn't anywhere in the restaurant you could go to escape the music clips they play and the announcer's booming voice. Does it really need to be broadcast on stand up loudspeakers and shot out of the bar through the entire restaurant? Here's what we got: (description from their menu:) The Smokehouse All-natural pork smoked for 12 hours, bread & butter fried pickles, Granny Smith apple coleslaw, chipotle BBQ sauce on grilled ciabatta 14.95 (my description based on experience:) Incredibly bland thin shreds of pork, packaged and then reheated after being supposedly smoked for 12 hours, served in an incredibly bland BBQ sauce which tasted like sugar water, covered in bland, watery cole slaw with no granny smith apple served on an average bun from a grocery store. (description from their menu:) Chipotle Turkey Salad House made honey turkey, chopped romaine, grape tomatoes, red onion, roasted corn, black beans with honey chipotle vinaigrette topped with guacamole, cotija cheese and crispy tortilla strips 14.95 (my description based on experience:) A small bit of bagged romaine lettuce served with reheated dry 'nuggets' of turkey along with bland vegetables dripping with tons of sugary salad dressing. Mainly consisting of long triangles of unremarkable tortilla strips. The brussel sprouts with bacon were burned to a crisp ... literally blackened burned and inedible, as was the bacon pieces which looked like little slivers of coal. The only dish which was okay was the macaroni and cheese, which was still kind of bland and it looked like pre-cooked pasta was thrown into a ramekin with cheese sauce and baked under a broiler. The top of the noodles were crunchy and the cheese was all at the bottom of the dish. Very edible ... but not great. Why am I giving 2 stars to a meal where I literally would have rather not eaten it? The beer selection here is great ... but expensive. Most drafts are $7 - $8 and some, like Fiddlehead Second Fiddle, are served in a smaller glass which looks like a small brandy snifter. Second Fiddle is a hard beer to find on draft, being one of the top rated IPAs in the United States. However, to charge $8 for about half of a pint glass is pretty blah. Come here for the beer selection ... skip the food and make sure it won't be on a day where they are blasting bar trivia through the restaurant. Also, this restaurant reminded me of one of the cafeterias at a Disney resort in a generic, cheesy, open concept kind of way. It wasn't unappealing. Nice and welcome replacement to the Outback Steakhouse. First time at Red Heat was on a Sunday early evening with family and friends. Decor is casual and fun. Restaurant was about 50% occupied and we were seated quickly. Our waitperson was friendly, knowledgeable and patient as we studied the unfamiliar bar and food menus. Started with drinks including old fashioned, red wine, custom cocktail, and mai-tai served in a festive glass. Mixed drinks were delicious and quite potent. The wine was good, all were reasonably priced. Wine was $6 and other drinks $10 each. We decided to order a variety of appetizers. Two skillets of cornbread, homemade Tater-tots, Korean ribs, dry rub wings with side of buffalo sauce, nachos with carnitas and a large Cesar salad. All were delicious. Tots were large and loaded with cheese including Gouda. Cornbread was hot, moist and served with honey butter. Wings were delicious dipped in homemade buffalo sauce (they should bottle and sell the sauce). Ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender. Nacho chips tasted homemade and carnitas nicely spiced. One key item not on the nachos was jalapeños. Our waitperson brought a side of them per our request which made the nachos perfect. Overall, we were very pleased with drinks, food and service in addition to the bill. 6 people x 2 drinks each x 6 appetizers & salad = $172.
