I went there today for the first time, and had a terrible experience…read more I arrived. There was one car ahead of me and asked if they were available to do my car today. He said it would be about 20 minutes.. Then I noticed a sign on the building showing cash, Venmo Zelle and other forms of payment besides credit card so I asked the attendant if they accept credit card to which and he gave me a very rude response. I thought about leaving, but was already there so waited. When it was my turn I moved my car into the directed space and asked the worker some questions to which he said he couldn't answer. I apologize for asking so many questions and explain to him that this was my first time needing to get my car smog so I was u aware of how it worked etc. He asked for the envelope that I was holding in my hand, and I handed it to him, which had my form for the DMV for this service and my husband Husband had stuck a coupon and there for another small place in case I had decided to go there. He kind of threw the other coupon at me telling me that that doesn't belong to him, and there was also a receipt I guess in the envelope from our Gardener that he also kind of shoved at me. I'm not sure why these two items in the envelope upset him so much since the envelope was mine to begin with, but it set him off and I was sent away to get my smog check elsewhere. I asked why he was giving me such a hard time and he wouldn't even answer me just told me to go somewhere else and said some unfriendly choice words towards me. The whole interaction was very strange and awkward. I'm not even sure exactly what happened to set him off. I can't help but think that me being female had something to do with it. I will never be back here nor will I ever recommend anyone to go there. It was the strangest and worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life.

Fantastic Experience with Older Car at Burlingame Smog!…read more This place is great, and their technician, Manny, is the best! Very highly recommended in every way, don't be put off if the phone call takes a few attempts. My old 1994 Dodge Intrepid had failed smog at a place in San Francisco. I took action to remedy the problem, ran fuel cleaner through it, changed the oil, put lower octane gas in it and replaced the spark plugs myself, making sure to gap each one very carefully. On the retest in San Francisco, the guy was continuously distracted and let my car idle for nearly an hour before doing the test. The car failed on the first low-speed test because the intake was too full of gasoline from idling too long, but it was fine on the high speed test which made me suspicious of the initial low speed run coming off of a long period of idling. I'm never going back to that place. Because I was raised in Burlingame, I decided to find a place here to do the smog test. A quick search turned up Burlingame Smog. The Yelp reviews looked good, so I called them up. Don't be dismayed if the phone doesn't pick up on the first try, this is a small shop, and Manny has to do double and triple duty. On my second call, it rang for quite a while, and then I noticed that Manny was calling me back while I was still on call waiting. When I arrived, everything was great. Manny was very friendly, and right off the bat, I could tell he was sharp. He immediately noticed my worn engine mounts and the very old rear tires that needed replacing (I had already ordered some). He even pointed out some signs of arcing around my spark plug wires where I had reinstalled them. Turns out Manny is also a mechanic and really knows what he's talking about! And, he cares! I told Manny about my experience in San Francisco--how the car had idled too long before the test--and he agreed that could have been the problem. He was very careful to make sure my car was properly warmed up and that any accumulated moisture/gas in the tailpipe was expelled before the test. Manny studied the results of my last three smog tests and knew exactly what to do to make sure my HC levels passed. To say he knows what he's doing is an understatement and he's a very nice guy! This was my best smog testing experience ever! Very highly recommended in every way, don't be put off if the phone call takes a few attempts. It's well worth the effort! Also worth every penny of the price, a bit higher than most, but well worth it for the professionalism and results!

While waiting for my car, I was able to walk to the shopping center and hand out at one of the restaurants. There was a Starbucks, a boba place, a Greek-pizza place, an American diner, an Italian bakery, and a sourdough bread place, so you've got options. Neighborhood seemed friendly enough and a lot of people were out and about on a summer weekday. The location is also convenient to get to from 92. I'd recommend coming in. I guess one thing is that Hari said he'd call me, but he never did. He is running the shop and the gas station; it looks like a lot of multitasking. So I guess you can always call in for a check up on the status...or just hangout at the shop - there were a few chairs there.

If you have a unique problem, chances are it's going to take longer than you would want it to take to get it fixed. Otherwise just go to the dealer to get it fixed and pay dealer rates/prices. All in all, Vinh's pretty straightforward and honest about the labor and parts. Definitely recommending the shop to all my friends!
