So this is my second trip to this shop in 6 months. The first time everything went smoothly. The second time which was about 45 minutes ago, not so much. I bring my car in with the penny saver coupon and everything is going well until I make the mistake of trying to make small talk with the owner. Apparently, I had stepped on one of his hoses and that completely set him off. He started yelling, cursing and threatening me. I was in shock at how this person was talking to another person (me). Needless to say I got out of there in a hurry and never ended having my smog done. DON'T EVER GO TO THIS SHOP. I don't know if this guy was having a bad day or what but cursing at and threatening someone is not an appropriate response to someone stepping on your hose. read more

Horrible service. I actually stopped in front of the shop to make sure this was the shop my buddy told me to go to. A man that ran the shop walked out and told me to get out of there and he didn't want my truck parked in front of his shop. I explained that i'm getting a smog check and he told me "Not from here." Nothing, beyond the fact that the State of California really shouldn't require smog checks for cars that are less than 10 years old. Hey, it's the price we pay to live here and drive. Printed out the online coupon that so many of you kindly mentioned in your writings and they gladly accepted it. Total cost with tax was about $40 or so. The gentleman behind the counter asked where I found him and he said Yelp has been good to his business, so even better! Am always a little nervous that a biz owner idn't say something like "F*** Yelp! They've ruined me!" Chances are if you're willing to curse in front of a new paying customer, it's not Yelp that's bringing you down. But that's a different story... Horrible service and very shady. I found a coupon in the Penny Saver for a discounted smog check and took it in. I was then told that the price on the coupon was not valid for my vehicle because it was newer and bigger. There was nothing stated on the coupon or the website that says this. It was very mis-leading. After the check was completed, the owner/tech tells me that my car did not pass and that a light was on that caused it to fail. He then tells me the light was on before he started the test so it was going to fail anyways. I've been to other places where if they know it's going to fail, they tell you and not test it. They inform you to get it fixed. Not here. He tested it and still charged me, then says its $29 for a retest. Not a free retest, but a charge. I go back after the car is fixed up and do the retest and he tells me that it's going to be more than the original retest price noted. Just out for money. read more

Will take advantage of you if given the opportunity. Called in before hand to confirm that the $34.95 smog check coupon from Pennysaver could be used on a 2004 Corolla. Owner/mechanic confirmed that it was valid and I came in shortly after. 2 minutes into the smog check, the mechanic stops the test and lets me know that the test is very difficult given my car make/model because the car surges and the test force aborts. Thereafter he gave me two options: 1) Retest for $20.00. 2) Pay the $34.95 for the test he could not complete and go some where else to have a smog check. Obliviously, I okay'd for the retest and within 5 minutes the retest was done. Basically, it seemed like the mechanic tried just a little bit harder and could therefore complete the test this time around. Gave the mechanic the benefit of the doubt and paid $65.00 (certificate/electronic fee/retest/smog check). After some research and talking to more car-experienced friends, I discovered I was blatantly ripped off. TLDR: Very dishonest business; find yourself a honest mechanic. My first visit here was good but since then.... Horrible! This jerk actually broke my glove box completely off slamming my s**t around and driving my vehicle with the same lack of care and respect. I sat there and watched him rip my glovebox right off and I said "hey! What the f**k!" You are going to fix that" and what was this a**holes response....? Pulled up and the guy had me out of there in 10 minutes. The place was clean and well maintained. I went there because the Audi dealer I go to is right down the street, but I liked it more than the smog place I usually go to. I printed off a coupon from the garage's website and it was $45 total. He also accepts credit cards which is nice, since a lot of these cheaper places want cash under the table. Basically, this place is a legit, pleasant experience. 4 stars for a 15-minute, no-hassle, affordable smog check -1 star for the least friendly local business I've been to in the neighborhood I needed a smog check and this place is right around the corner from my house. I printed out a coupon per another reviewer's suggestion and drove over. The proprietor was sitting in a back room and when he walked over looked at me like I'd just interrupted his day. He took my coupon and said "here, sign this and this, it'll be about 15." I sat on the couch for 15 minutes. He finished, handed me a receipt and car keys, then turned around and walked back to what he was doing before being so rudely interrupted. i got in my car and drove home. Broken record here but I have to agree with many of the reviewers; 1. Didn't need an appointment on a Saturday afternoon 2. Price was competitive compared to other shops 3. Arrived and departed within 15 minutes 4. Owner was no-nonsense which is fine. I just want a smog check certificate It is a factory operation, as soon as one car leaves another is rolled into the shop and tested. Wash, rinse, and repeat. Concur with many of the reviewers: in and out in 10-15 minutes without an appointment, the guy was not super friendly (but does he need to be?), place was clean. No parking lot, just off-street parking. I have a 1992 Ford F-150. It runs clean but I still have to take it to a Test Only site every 2 years. $50 was the total cost (which includes the certificate). Cannot fine a better deal anywhere else nearby. read more

I ran into the similar situation with one of the reviewer Tim B has. The owner would give excuses for not honoring the coupon price, and give more excuses during the inspection for digging more money out of my pocket, saying the car has been modified, which he didn't say anything from the previous 2 inspections from last 4 years. To clarify, I am a returning customer, I had my other vehicles smog at AA+ from last 4 years. AA+ (Joe) is dishonest. I brought in the coupon from his website which says $29.75 "Plus $8.25 Certificate Fee; Most cars and light trucks/suv 2000 and newer models". My car is NOT an oversized car, nor is it older than year 2000 (It is a 2005). He told me because it needed a STAR certification it would be $10 more. I said I HAVE a coupon and it mentions NOTHING about STAR costing more money. He told me it is more work. I told him my car meets the stipulations on the coupon. He said there is not enough room to write the other requirement. I told him he is dishonest and a cheat. I went to another shop with the same price coupon, it was honored. And by the way, the SMOG test was LESS work than an older car. All the tech did was hook an OBD SCAN tool up to the interface and run the engine at idle. He did not have to put it on the dyno, or hook up the gas cap (older cars require a gas cap test) or put the sniffer into the exhaust pipe. AA+ is a cheat with regard to honoring the coupon on his website. Whether he does good work I have no idea, because from the point of his not honoring his coupon and telling me it was more difficult, I walked out and will NEVER go back there again read more

I called The shop before going in for a smog check and he gave me a price of $29.95 After all the smog check and certification was completed he increased the price by $20 because it is a star certification and for the smog certificate. I feel so bad for how naive I was when I first time visited this shop to get a smog check for my BMW. The test failed because of an OBD error. Mohammad (the owner) told me my car needs probably an engine tune-up and I should bring my car next week to the shop. - I took my car to the shop a week later and he said again that he is very busy and I should bring my car in three weeks (in November). - After three weeks waiting Mohammad told me once again that he does not have time and he will call me later in the next few days. - Since I could not trust him anymore I took my car to a different shop (ABS alternative in San Mateo). As soon as John checked my smog check report, he noticed that my car model is SULEV and based on the error codes in the smog report the ignition coils are failing so I should take my car to a BMW dealership since they should fix the issue without charing me (under SULEV warranty). - John was right! The issue was ignition coil and my BMW dealership fixed it without charging me any cent! - I took my car back to Mohammad to get the smog check done. He charged me again $10 and after a few minutes told me my car is not ready for smog check and I have to drive my car for thirty minutes and he does not have time and I should come back tomorrow. I insisted that I need to get it done today and I'll drive the car 15 minutes more so he can check it again. I came back and he charged me again $20 ($10 for redoing the test+ 8.75 for certification + $2 for transfer fee so $70) Mohammad is not a reliable guy and he even does not have enough knowledge to diagnose simple issues (he said my care needs tune-up but in fact a coil was failing and on top of it he did not know what a SULEV model means! I could take my car to a BMW dealership from beginning because of SULEV warranty but he wasted a lot of my time, energy and even my money. Avoid this shop! read more

Was planning a meeting in Burlingame and decided to get this done, check Yelp for smog test near my meeting. Read about AA+ and called to ask if he could do a Porsche Boxster, not all test locations can. He said yes, just stop by. Did so, filled out the paperwork, he proceeded with test, completed the visual inspections and said, it passed. I asked him to explain the read out which he did patiently, with explanation that at some point repairs may be required as one reading was right on the line. Just went today, in fact, a little after noon. Had zero wait, filled out a simple form, and was done in 20 minutes tops at a mere $30. I printed the online coupon to get $10 off. It says "most vehicles." Perhaps the people with trouble had cars that have unusual circumstances? I've taken in a Volvo XC90, Audi A4 and Honda Civic hybrid -- all gas fueled, as old as 2007. I just had a smog check here today. I called to make an appointment (had to go in my lunchtime) to make sure I don't have to wait and that it will be done quickly. The inspection with everything took no longer than 15 minutes. The person who helped me was very professional and friendly. Every time I use this place I have to fight to get the coupon price and some of the time still fail. They are still less expensive than most other palaces and at times quicker. I use them because they are convenient but if you are not the type of person that pushes back I would probably go elsewhere. Read great reviews about AA+ Smog so I decided to bring my car here for its smog check before paying my DMV reg this year. I called about making an appointment since I was going to get this done over my lunch break. The person (believe it may be the owner) said that I didn't need an appointment and told me that the entire procedure will take about 15 mins (in and out). So I make my way over to AA+ Smog (easy to get to off of the 101 freeway). Sure enough, I check in (fill out the brief half page paperwork), gave the guy my keys and DMV renewal form. He started working on it and I was out of there in 15 mins as promised! That is as good as it gets folks. The smog check certificate was also electronically submitted to the DMV - no further action on my end except for paying the DMV reg fees. This is so great! Wonderful and prompt service.
