This review is for AAA as a whole and not just the Chico branch. I bought AAA specifically for the purpose of making a trip across the United States with my small 5 x 8 trailer. I bought the most expensive policy - AAA Plus. It costed around $200. While going across country, one of the lights on my dashboard came on. I looked in my car book and it said do not drive the car. I was only about 20 miles from the next small town, but I stopped and called AAA expecting help. When they found out I had a trailer, they said they could not help me. They could tow my car, but they could not tow my trailer. They expected me to leave my trailer with all my belongings in it by the side of the road. Or I could pay them to tow my trailer. They told me that there was no one in that small town 20 miles ahead of me that could tow my trailer. They said I had to wait for someone from a hundred miles away to come to my location and tow my trailer and I had to pay for it. I sat there for 4 hours in the blazing sun while someone from a hundred miles behind where I had just come from drove to my location. When the tow guy got there, I asked him why somebody from the town 20 miles up the road couldn't come and tow me. He said he did not know why they sent him from so far away, because there were at least three tow services from the town 20 miles away that could have towed me. He hooked everything up and we drove 20 miles up the road. I had to pay him a hookup fee and a per mile charge for towing my 5 x 8 trailer 20 miles. This amounted to over $200.00 - after waiting over four hours for him to get there. He unhooked my trailer at a motel there. Then the driver took my car and dropped it off at the mechanic that AAA had told him to drop it at. AAA told me that they notified that mechanic that I was coming and they chose that shop because he had time to see me. The next day, I had to walk (no taxi's in this tiny town) at least a mile to the mechanic and got in my car so I could sit down and wait. The mechanic was late. I got on the phone and called him. He said he was somewhere else in another town and would be there in about a half an hour. When he finally got there, I told him what AAA had said. He said AAA never called him, he had no idea who I was and could not work on my car for at least a week. He was very mean and rude. I asked him if he could just please look at the warning light that I was talking about on the car and tell me what it was. I put the key in the car and the warning light did not come on. He said, "Well, I don't see anything, so there's nothing wrong." I got in the car and drove away. I went back to the motel and tried to hook my trailer up and I could not. I pulled two guys out of the parking lot to see if they could help me hook the trailer up. One of the guys was so strong he lifted the trailer a bit and then it was able to go onto the hitch. The trailer jack that I had bought for the purpose of me being able to hook the trailer on and off myself proved to be worthless unless the trailer and car were on completely flat ground. When I got to my final destination, I went into a AAA office and talked to a manager about this incident. I feel as though I should be reimbursed for AAA having forced me to pay for my own towing. They also sent me to a mechanic who had no idea I was coming and did not have time to work on my car for a week. They refused to reimburse me. They said their towing packages only apply to cars. I told them that when I initially bought my AAA Plus membership, I told the person exactly what I was going to do with it, and she never mentioned that trailers were not covered. AAA told me they would not compensate me for refusing to pay trailer towing fees. What they would happily do for me though is give me a $50 credit off my membership for next year. So their solution to this issue is ME giving them another $150 of my money instead of $200 for their worthless towing package. Really nothing out of their pocket to solve the problem! AAA packages are WORTHLESS. I will stick with the towing policy that comes with my regular car insurance. It is only about $35 and also comes with a free rental car if yours is in the shop. read more

I went with my mom who wanted to check out AAA prices on Home Owners and car insurance. We were greeted by Guadalupe. From the start, she was extremely Professional, Friendly and Knowledgeable. Chuck Paterson AAA refused to tow my vehicle even though I had current registration, current insurance and a membership in great standing because the year tag was missing. I called twice to speak with the Chico AAA DMV Services Supervisor and the AAA DMV Services Supervisor at the Chico AAA office left early, per his female employee, because "he didn't want to speak to you". This same female employee sent an IM to the Branch Supervisor, that was covering the Woodland office, and She refused to contact me. After being a loyal customer for 26 years, I'm cancelling every thing in my life that involves AAA. Not the company I want to deal with in an emergency. read more

AAA ..more like FFF! This is how they make you feel and the grade they deserve after 25+ years of membership! The story: as a member for 25 plus years my whole life is on autopay like many others. Due to security concerns AMEX changed my credit card number. Before AAA had the time to send me a text, a call, an email, or even a letter requesting an updated credit card number my daughter needed roadside assistance She was locked out of her car in not the best area. They explained to her that the roadside assistance coverage had lapsed by 4 days and needed to be made current before they could open the car. She tried to reach me and I was unreachable. She then asked them if they could open the car because her wallet was inside and she would happily bring the roadside assistance policy current. Young girl locked out of her car not in the safest of places and they refused to open the car. She has no choice but to call a private company that offered to open the car and be a paid immediately upon doing so. After hearing about the situation, I called AAA within 24 hours to renew my policy and update the credit card information. They assured me things will be fine and I will be reimbursed as it's the only time I have lapsed in over 25 years and they understood that credit card number had changed. That was a lie as I got a letter stating they refused reimbursement due to the lapse. I called the customer service center, spoke with two supervisors... Heard the words "I'm sorry" far too often. Heard that they "valued my business"... But still nothing. So for $120 not reimbursed they will lose ~$3000 in annual premiums. Not smart economics. My biggest complaint is their ambivalence over their policy not to open a car for a long-term member whos policy has lapsed for a few days when they have the ability to pay inside the car. AAA has unfortunately has become like the rest of corporate America where they don't really care about their customers or make smart economic decisions. Sounds like a future Sears. Today I had to go in to the AAA DMV office on Forrest. I couldn't believe what a great experience it was. I just sprained my wrist and wearing my brace. I took a bad fall and really hurt myself. When I went in I spoke to Kathy about me losing my handicap placard. She was so friendly, very professional. I was asking if I would be able to get new handicap placard as I lost mine, and apply for new plates so I could get handicap sticker. She said of course and proceeded to get my new card. When it came to the plates she said I would need the old plates. I asked her if it would be okay to go home and get my husband to take off plates and could bring them back. I was I'll prepared and didn't have a screwdriver. Immediately she offered to go out and help me. She took off my old plates put the new ones on all while talking to me. My battery died and I placed a call to AAA for a jump. I was at a location less than a mile from the tow service. I waited two hours. I had my 3-year old granddaughter with me and it was over 90 degrees. When I was able to make a call I was told the time estimate was an approximation and not a real time expectation of when they would arrive. The texting messages were not helpful. It is shameful that AAA gives 2 hour window for roadside assistance and That's no guarantee that AAA will actually show up. I have been a member too long to remember and the service has gotten much worse. I have been left waiting along busy roads and AAA never shows up and they don't tell you or text you they aren't showing up. Worst company to deal with ever was locked out of my car and 110° weather and a AAA truck happen to pull in the parking lot I walked up to the AAA truck and asked if they could unlock cars. AAA employee said yes and I offer to pay him for his services he then went on saying that I need to call the dispatcher after I told him that my keys and phone were locked inside my car. after that he just decide to drive off like I didn't even exist if you end up locking your keys in your car literally call any buddy else but AAA and you should be fine worst company I've ever dealt with in my life ever. read more

For 25 years I have been a Triple A member and have used my membership just for roadside emergencies. When I first got the card I seemed to need towing way too often and they arrived quickly and got me right back on the road ... or towed me to my mechanic if that was necessary. I got a card for my son as soon as he became a driver and I have always felt secure knowing he would be able to get help if he was stranded somewhere. In the last three months I have started using them as my car insurance carrier and for DMV responsibilities, so far, it has been a good experience. The price for the same kind of insurance coverage was much better than my previous carrier. The service in the Forest Avenue office is very nice. I have worked with two different women and they have been knowledgeable and friendly. While I have never used any of their benefits related to discounts at stores and vacation spots my mom has so that's just a nice little bonus. read more

My sister locked herself out of her car and a third party towing company came to assist, all of that is fine. The towing company left after 20 minutes to respond to an emergency, meanwhile it's pitch black dark, she's a young girl, all alone, and the driver leaves. Definitely not fine. I called AAA and they said we were "irrational" to complain and request backup. I'm sorry, but if my young sister is left alone in an agriculture field, locked out of her car, past dusk I don't see that as irrational. It has now been 4 hours and they still have not attended to our matter, on either sides. Safe to say we are definitely looking into new roadside assistance companies. After buying a new vehicle I come to find out I was going to be up rated I thought the new bill of $178 was extremely expensive. I started shopping around and finally called AAA expecting an even higher rate. I was greeted by young gentleman, Brian Seateurn, he informed me my current policy's coverage didn't make much sense and explained why, Brian walked me through my coverage options and answered all my questions. I do travel a lot so he recommended I go with the PLUS membership plan which covers up to 100 miles of towing and roadside assistance plus many other options, the whole process took about 10-15 Minuets and we did everything over the phone. Brian raised my coverage by thousands of dollars, saved me over $900 a year and informed me I will continue to save with all the discounts I will receive by simply being a AAA member. Absolutely pointless. I've called 3 times without a single answer. They don't ask if I'm in a safe location or anything, just What do you need help with? My batteries dead so I need a jump and then get put on hold forever. When my friends call the same branch they get this detailed list of what they need to do and talk to someone, unlike me listening to their god awful music for an hour until I go crazy and hang up. He puts his customers first and he spends every effort to follow through on his word. If you're looking for help with your current AAA policy or to give you a super estimate, or sell you your policy, this is the man you need. By the way, if he offers roadside yearly roadside service, take it. It's worth every penny. I like to go here for registration instead of the DMV. The location is easy to find/access, parking is great, and the building is nice. Sometimes there's a line at the DMV counter when groups of people come in at the same time so you might have to wait 2-5 mins for service but really, compared to the DMV it's a breeze. Always good experiences there. Just remember they don't take credit/debit...made that mistake once and had to run to the atm for cash : / read more

When calling in for roadside assistance, customer service was great and the girl I talked to was super friendly. She told me it would be about 45 min but probably less because of my close location. Well after waiting about an hour and fifteen minutes with no one in sight I called to check status and was told the technician got caught up and it would be an additional hour before someone would get to me! I ended up having a nice stranger stop and help me! I can't imagine if it was a serious emergency. NOT HAPPY! read more

Recently had a problem with a new AAA battery that was defective resulting in service calls exceeding my yearly limit. Customer Service person Chris, verified purchase, verified battery service calls, contacted AAA Roadside service to explain the situation and have service calls credited back, called the local AAA contractor who sold the battery, arranged for him to come within minutes to the Chico AAA parking lot and replace the battery. Clearly this kind of customer service should be a model for all AAA customer service staff. This is why we have stayed with AAA Roadside service over the years, and have all our property insurance with them. read more
