I recommend this AAA office. The people working here are friendly and professional. They know how to help members. Obvious they all like their jobs and enjoy assisting members. I visited to obtain an International Drivers Permit for an upcoming vacation. My travel agent told me AAA takes the passport photo (no appointment needed-better photo than the Post Office) and processes the IDP. Super easy. Filled out the application on the AAA website. Printed it and the Rockridge office took the photo and handed me the IDP, all in less than 30 minutes. If you need passport photos this is the place to go. I remember this AAA office used to be on MacArthur Blvd., across from Mosswood Park, many years ago. I found out in a telephone call that they have moved from there about 6 to 7 years ago to this location. The last time I had any dealings with them was before Y2K...like 14 years ago. Husband and I came to this office to start up a membership for roadside service for him and our daughter. A check-in and start up on the membership landed us with two Warriors beanie caps...cool, especially the rainy and cold weather at this time. The young lady at the front reception desk acknowledged us immediately and indicated that we would be assisted shortly. They had free Starbucks coffee, VIA magazine and an assortment of maps in the vending machines. The wait wasn't long (about 5 minutes). The first gentleman, Dan, thought we needed to apply for insurance. We thanked him for assisting us; the purpose of the visit was to apply for road service membership. Thereafter, he referred us to Ethan Yang. Ethan worked quickly to process the paperwork and accepted the payment for membership. Have used this location for auto registration, notary services, passport photos, and purchasing museum and movie tickets. It's tucked away in the corner of the shopping plaza, next to the Jamba Juice and Starbucks. Service is good--check in with the staff person at the entrance and they can direct you where to go. For registration and ticket purchases, go line up at the counter in the back. The line can be long sometimes but usually moves alright. They offer WiFi but the last few times I've been there it hasn't been working. The notary service is pretty helpful, as it's hard to find this nowadays, but you may want to call and make sure there is a notary available that day. Heads up that this location can get extremely busy on Saturdays, so try to go on a weekday if you can. The parking adjacent to the AAA office often fills up, so park closer to the Chase bank and just walk over. One neat thing--they have a vending machine that dispenses local and state maps (the paper kind). Insert your AAA card and you can get any maps you want at no cost. read more

Great experience getting my international drivers permit. Printed form out on line. Brought in 2 passport photos (they will make them there for $20) and waited in line less than 10 minutes. While they still have local maps they have very few international ones. The one I wanted of Italy also included Switzerland and another country and is pretty useless. read more

I have been a AAA member and this is the first time I ever used the DMV services. Well, the wait and to its completion of the process took approximately 25 minutes, its much better than going into the DMV office; however, I was a bit annoyed by its policy that the registration can only be issued to the registered owner in person even If you and your significant others have a joint AAA membership; and he's not there in the AAA Office, they cannot issue the registration tab. They can only accept your money and mail it to the address on the registration which is the same as what AAA has in its record. For that reason, I was not too pleased. Option is process the DMV registration at the machine in front of the AAA office with a fee. The overall experience at AAA was good. The services received from AAA representative was acceptable and he was very patience. read more

Although the surrounding businesses have gotten busier, this year's visit was as quick, efficient and easy as it has always been. Went to AAA to reinstate a suspended registration. I got everything taken care of within 2 hours including getting a smog check and returning for tags. This would have required at least two visits to DMV which would have taken many hours over an extended period of time. They even helped to waive some late fees. The service and attitude at AAA was incredibly better than DMV. read more

Really great AAA location. An is our insurance agent and he is the absolute best. We've been working with him for over a year now. My household has steadily been transferring all our accounts over to AAA. We've worked with him on auto, house, and life insurance and every time he's wonderful to work with. Highly recommended. He's super nice and really experienced. He's very responsive to phone calls and emails. The DMV services are a great member benefit. Sometimes the wait can be long, but it's a million times shorter and more pleasant than going to the DMV itself. The AAA agents that help with DMV things are really helpful and have a great attitude. I came to this office the other day 07/18/19. I was hoping to use the DMV services to reassign some personalize license plates. Unfortunately the agent that attempted to help me didn't know their job and told me only the DMV could process my request. Feeling this was probably not true I walked out and called the 1-800 number. I asked to be transfer to the nearest AAA office which was Alameda. Before leaving I confirmed over the phone that they could process personalized license plates, the agent assured me they could so I drove over. 25 minutes later I was sitting in the Alameda branch which was not crowded. The agent knew exactly how to help me and she reassigned 3 plates onto 3 vehicles in less than 20 minutes. Oakland Pleasant Valley branch needs to train thier people to ask for help when they don't know how to do their job instead of telling customers they don't provide the services. read more

They take forever here! The line to complete DMV stuff can be a real drag. The papers are at the counter not at the end of the line or before you get to the line so you can fill them out in line. Which then causes a backup because ppl do not see the forms until they reach the front of the line, then you have to fill them out quickly or wait because the AAA employee is ready but you aren't. And they never have pens for you to fill out your form. I only come here once a year to do my registration to avoid the 2-3 hours the DMV takes. But now the DMV offers online services for car registration so now theres not need to come here unless someone steals my tags or I want to add or delete insurance. The people are nice tho. My 2017 new car was hit by a careless driver on 7/31/2017. It was 100% her fault. We both have AAA auto insurance. AAA denied my Diminished Value Claim. They insisted the value of the car is the same prior and post the accident. I lost more then $10,000 of car belie. AAA tried very hard to negotiate the doctor's bills and refused to pay the doctor's bills in full even I submitted the invoices & the doctor's soap notes. They refused to pay my wage losses. I went to see 3 doctors to treated my neck pain during the working hours. I am the victim of the accident. AAA tried very hard to limited their payment and expected me to absorb my losses. Alice Hon definitely is one of the worst insurance agent I met in my life. (1) I was first asked referral from my friend for AAA insurance agent and he referred to me. During the past 7 years that I have the insurance with her, every time I update my mortgage clause, it always with mistakes and the mistake was not one time. They don't read it. I had to call or email several times to make it right. (2) Other AAA insurance agent will have good advice and follow up from time to time. Besides my insurance premium keep going up without competitive coverage. I lost patience and only can switch out from AAA insurance. (3) I told her in March 2022 not to renewal when this year insurance in May 2022 because I set up escrow account. She then canceled my policy in March. (4) Then, I told her was not March. Then, she sent me the evidence not to renewal in May 2022. Then, guess what happen. AAA didn't cancel and sent the renewal invoice to my lender and the premium was paid. (5) I called Alice have you cancelled and she said yes and confirmed. 2 weeks didn't have any refund back and when I called AAA directly thru the chat system. It said the policy still effective and premium was paid and no one ever cancelled. I have to file the cancellation again by myself. Alice Hon is useless and irresponsible for the entire situation. read more

Before I clicked to write this I checked the other reviews. As I am wont occasionally to do. None of my friends have yet writ. So instead of "Reviews by Those Who Matter" the banner read "27 Reviews in English." Huh. I wonder what language the other reviews are in. Mahal kita AAA! It's been 10 years since I last locked my keys in the car. What's a little eerie is that this time, the other day, I was parked one space immediately in front of the space I was in back in 2001. And it wasn't like I was in my garage or anything - it was steet parking. Same street, practically the same space. Spooky. So riddle me this, my lovely friends - why do we check our pocket for the key after closing the door? It's a cute little affectation, to be sure. But the timing's a little off. I spared myself the scolding. My shoulders were heavy enough as it was. I had a moment of option considration. Option A was to walk the 20 blocks home, hope the neighbor was in, climb from one terrace to the other, break in and walk back. That was a lousy option. Then, le light bub, she came on! The gym let me use the phone, I picked a machine with a view of the road, and voila - 15 minutes later the familiar blue and yellow truck was outside. Five minutes after that I was frantically trying to remember how to turn off the car alarm. A handshake, a smile, and poof. He was gone. $57 clams a year. What an insane deal. Yelp, in it's infinite wisdom decided to merge this location with the now CLOSED one that it replaced (http://www.yelp.com/biz/aaa-oakland) I've contacted Yelp several times to split out all of the 8/23/2010 and onwards reviews back to this location with correct address, but they still have not. WTF, Yelp? If you're going to merge 2 *different* locations into one. One that is CLOSED and the other newly opened to replace the old CLOSED location, at least merge the OLD reviews into the correct NEW location and not the other way around. Please? Renewing car registration could not have been easier! There was a short line (3 people ahead of me) but the Card Services Assiciate was incredibly efficient and moved right along without sacrificing a positive interaction. Furthermore she was able to waive the "late fee" (I was 2 weeks late renewing) since I had not received my renewal notice. I was in and out of there in 15 minutes, with my new registration and sticker. This office offers numerous other services and BEST of all -- they're open on Saturdays !! (Check hours before going.) My car died on Highway 580 in Oakland this morning. I was on my way home from an errand and won't go into all the details, but fortunately I was in the slow lane so it was easy for me to get onto the shoulder safely. I called 911 and the CHP sent over a very nice young officer and called AAA for me. The officer attempted to charge my battery but as soon as he unplugged the cables from his car, my radio died. He tried a longer charge w/ the same result, making me think it was probably my alternator, since I have a relatively new battery. He remained parked behind me until AAA arrived, which took a while. I felt very well protected. The AAA driver was Erika and she was wonderful, charming and friendly. She had me stay in the car while she towed it off the freeway to a street where I could safely get out and into her truck. She checked in w/ her dispatcher, got directions on her cell phone to the Albany location of Berkeley Toyota, where Alan and I have both taken our cars. She asked me what music I liked and put KCSM on the radio, giving it preset 7 for the next time she sees me. The seat in the truck was amazingly comfortable and clean. We chatted all the way to the Toyota dealer and she sent me in to check in w/ them while she made arrangements to take the car to the lot where they wanted it. I wasn't able to say goodbye, although I told her many times how much I appreciated her help. read more

Efficient and great customer service! I got there at about 11am and there was no line, but I noticed a lot of people showing up soon after. The line moves fairly quickly though. Everyone was so helpful, especially considering I had a not-very-happy toddler with me. They gave him stickers and helped make sure he didn't run off while I filled out the paperwork, which was over-the-top kind of them. read more

A branch closer to my home has closed so I've been traveling a bit farther to this AAA at The Ridge. My membership and car tags were due at about the same time so I took care of both. Someone now greets you at the door which is a nice touch. Then your name is sent to the counter where you are called when it's your turn. Could I have done both online? Sure, but this way I had my tags in hand and could pick up cat food from Pet Food Express at the same time. read more

While I very much appreciate AAA in general, and find the Oakland Rockridge location always outstanding in service, this is a review specifically for Scot Kunselman. I've been working with Scot for several years and to describe him as patient, courteous, kind and thorough just barely scratches the surface of how truly exceptional Scot is at his job. I'm one of those clients I do not envy an insurance agent having: I'm like most busy people in the Bay Area who often works a hectic schedule but I'm a bit worse than most when it comes to keeping track of the various odds and ends of keeping vehicles and other types of insurances organized and tidy. Scot has been simply amazing over the years at helping me sort through the admin quagmire and he has been so generous with his patience, never flinching when I have to ask him yet one more time to remind me about what coverage I have on which vehicle and is it ok to change this but not that one, and may I have a copy again of this card or that document, etc. Really, he has the patience of a saint. He's also generally very pleasant to sit with whenever I meet with him, no matter the time of day, whether it is a planned meeting or a spontaneous swing-by. Scot, thank you so very much. This particular AAA office is very nice. I would say 5 of 5 stars in my opinion. Originally, we were really bummed when our local AAA office in Emeryville had been closed down. However, since we have started coming to the Rockeridge office I have no complaints at all. There is always plenty of parking (which the AAA office in Emeryville never had). Additionally this office seems to be much better maintained in general - it is always clean, quiet and has eager, courteous staff available for incoming members (which is a huge plus when you need help or have questions etc.). Best of all the wait times and lines are usually pretty short and when the lines are long they seem to move fairly quickly. We especially appreciate the DMV services offered at this location (even available on weekends) and the efficiency of the staff that handle these matters. In my experience handling DMV services at AAA is always smooth and efficient. + THANK GOODNESS THAT THEY NO LONGER NOT CHARGE THAT RIDICULOUS SERVICE FEE ANY LONGER. WAY TO GO AAA!!
