I had a flat tire. The first phone agent asked me what I needed and I explained I needed my spare tire put on. She said someone would call back in 15 minutes with the estimated time of arrival/assistance. I waited 20 minutes and then a gentleman called back and said they were trying to find someone (someone was assisting another customer for a dead battery) and it would probably be 60 minutes before I would have someone arrive to change my tire. I then received a call 30 minutes later saying that they were still working on finding someone to take my call. Really? ISN'T ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE PREPARED TO HANDLE MORE THAT ONE CUSTOMER AT A TIME? Finally after 2 hours of waiting, I was told that someone would be there in another 35 minutes. I told them to cancel the request. Thankfully my husband was in town and he took off from his job to come and change my tire. I know not everyone has that choice and if he would have been out of town, I would have been stuck waiting for who knows how long! While other aspects of AAA membership are adequate, AAA roadside assistance is very lacking and this is not my first negative experience with waiting for hours to get help from them. Terrible people!!! I called for service to jumpstart my car on Sunday and had to pay $50 for service call and $60 for membership. Service never showed up that day and I had to take a day of from work on Monday to wait for them. Called AAA to cancel membership 3 days later due to bad service and when asked for $60 refund I paid for membership they first approved it and called me back 5min later so some Michael manager can tell me that they won't be refunding anything!!!! i have had AAA for about 2 years know. I got them because my father told me they were good to have.. but to be honest they are not their customer service suck they have you waiting for a while and when someone actually pick up their rude..but on July 5th my husband called for a tow and waited for almost 3 hours and no one showed so he called back and was told thier was a 2 hour wait so no one showed up again and we were charged both times for tows we never received. We are already paying so much a year for the service for them to just do what they want.. I'm a AAA member. I purcbased a battery from them due to I thought the battery was no good. AAA technician stated to me that I will have to give him my old battery in order for him to give me a new battery from them. I said ok. I had the AAA battery in my suv for only month after and it died out. I found out at the car shop that the battery that AAA gave me was a refurbished battery meaning this battery would my be compatible for my large size suv d the power the truck needs to perform efficiently. And the AAA agent stated to me that I will have bring in my AAA battery that I purchased from them and I will have to pay for another AAA battery from them. I said wow!!! I declined the offer. All and all do not purchase a AAA battery from them. The life expectancy on the AAA battery is short. If you purchased a battery under warranty from auto zone or advance auto, It's best to return your battery and they will replace it for little or no charge. Do Not Buy AAA battery from them. After calling multiple times we found out 3 hours later that they had cancelled the towing request and never even had the respect to call us and tell us. This is the worse service ever!!!! Towing took 3 hours to arrive . My truck broke down in Miami I called AAA for the 2nd time since I join the membership in 2014 . They said the towing company would arrive in 1 hour and it took 3 hours . I called the costumer service while I was in the sun of 90 F in Miami waiting they said that i should wait. They blame the towing company but it was clear they called the company after 2 hours of receiving my first call . They do not pay that much to the towing companies so the decline the AAA request so AAA keep calling other towing companies until they find someone to accepts to take your car. Worse service. I was stranded for over 3 hours in my car with no power or heat. It was -30 with wind chill. AAA had me on hold for over an hour before finally putting in my service request. Waited 2 hrs still no tow truck. Called back and the service was cancelled and they never bothered to call and tell me. I ended up calling my own tow truck. Would not help me get my vehicle back to my home a few days later. They said I could pay to upgraded but would have to wait 72 hrs to use service. Never mind I have already been trying to get a tow for 3 days!! Customer service agent was rude. They do not care how long you have been a customer. I have been a member for 15 years. God, I have to say I own this one for allowing myself to be a victim twice in on year. I bought a battery from AAA before I moved to Seattle from LA. The winters are tough on car batteries up here and after two years in California the car was barely being started in the winter up here. I phoned AAA and they said they did not serve my area so I had them come out to my work place. This old beat-up guy came out and threw his tester on the battery and said the battery was not going to be replaced on at all pro-rated much less exchanged. He then asked me to buy another one from him! I kicked him off my work place property and bought a stronger Costco battery. Problem solved. My next little snafu was during a recent snowstorm up here in the Pacific Northwest. My car got stuck in the snow in a fire lane and it would not move no matter what I tried. I phoned for service and they claimed since I was home and not in danger they would not respond. Why would I re-new if they decide if I am going to get service like this at all??? At 3:50 pm CT on 5/6/19 I ran out of gas in a 16' box truck rental just 4 miles south of Rt 30 on I-65 northbound and had to pull over on the shoulder, just a few feet from all northbound traffic. After having to hear about all other selections from AAA's automated answering platform, I finally was informed of selection #6 for roadside assistance. Upon finally getting an actual person online for help from the nearby Merrillville, IN office (just a few miles away!), the AAA representative asked me if my predicament and I were "in peril". I confirmed my situation was urgent and very perilous. After being left on death-hold and a number of subsequent calls, a FULL HOUR LATER I was informed that some service station would have some gas delivered to me within 45 MINUTES!!! That would have been an HOUR-AND-45-MINUTES from the time of my initial request for urgent help. THIS PERFORMANCE WAS ABSURD after first indicating that I was in peril, being literally only 2-feet from 70-mph traffic and an approaching vehicle veering onto the shoulder and ramming into the truck and probably killing my wife and me. I hope someone at AAA can appreciate my situation and why I am submitting this review. The ONLY reason I (and I suppose most people) have AAA is for roadside assistance, and especially for such dire situations as I found myself in the other day. AAA's gross inability to help me in my time of truly life-threatening need leaves me wondering why I have an AAA membership. I am looking for answers and explanations from AAA as well as alternative roadside assistance options. I called for road side assistance last night at 12:45 a.m, because I had a flat. I was told that assistance should arrive at 1:45 a.m. No one ever showed up. I called again at 2:00 a.m and was told that my request was dropped in error and that someone would contact me. I called again at 3:30 a.m and was told the same story. DO not buy a battery from AAA. It's a huge scam. They state you have a three year warranty, but they're not willing to honor it unless you have the receipt. I have a credit card transaction showing that I purchased the battery from them. They even have it on my account that I purchased the battery, but if you didn't keep the hand written receipt from the road side assistance person, they won't honor their warranty. Plus - They are really rude on the phone when it comes to this. They're not wiling to help you unless you have the receipt. BAD COMPANY!! AAA? I had a membership for eight years, since the day I started driving. I have given up on them after nothing but absolutely terrible service. I have been left locked out of a running car for FOUR HOURS - until the car ran out of gas. Left by the side of the road in subzero temperatures, until the police came to rescue me. With a dead battery in the middle of nowhere, only to be told my (three month old) battery was defective and told I had to buy a (used) battery that went dead in two weeks and then being refused warranty service. Had two flat tires, they sent a regular tow truck when I had specifically said I would need a flatbed. Completely ridiculous. Find yourself a good local mechanic, ask them who they use. read more

So, I've had AAA Gold membership for a few years now and used it twice. The first time was great- Christmas Eve night and my car got stuck in a friend's driveway in MI. Yes, December 24. The tow truck came when they said it would and voula- my car was out of the snow and back on the road in under 1.5 hours. (not bad considering the day and time) Now, this past weekend, my car decided not to start randomly after just parking it. Called AAA and was told to wait 1.5 hours for a jump. Waited for the guy to come, he jumped the battery, told me to drive 20 minutes and park and try it again. If it didn't start, then he said that AAA would send someone out with more specific battery equipment. Car wouldn't start after said instructions. Called AAA again and was told that they didn't think it was the battery BUT would send someone with a AAA battery (which I'd have to pay for) or I could have it towed to a shop. This was a Saturday night and no reasonably-priced car shop would be open until Monday. Turns out that it WAS the battery. (A friend helped me get the POS to an auto parts store where they tested it) While I was without my car, my Gold membership only got me a measly 10% discount at Hertz (super expensive) for a rental. My car got stuck at my job because the starter went out. I called them for the 1st time in my life as I am unfortunately a new member. I called to have my car towed at 5:30 pm today 04/11/14 after a brief setup with an associate I got my tow schedule between 6:30 to 8:25 pm. At 9:00 pm I called AAA to see what's going on. Well the guy ( Calvin ) was completely a douche bag. He told me that now I have to wait between 9:00pm and 11:00pm? From 5:30??? Are u kidding. I've been a member for decades and paid for their higher rated coverage for my two older daughters since they started driving several years ago. I didn't realize I hadn't added an account for my youngest. My fault. When her car broke down and she needed help I didn't expect them to help her for free, but when they told her simply NO I was surprised. I requested a tow truck through the AAA app and was told the tow truck would arrive in one hour. I waited and waited but no truck arrived. I called AAA customer service and was told no truck was actually sent! So I waited for no reason and had to call a private towing company on my own in order to get service. The agent I spoke to said "this often happens". I'm disappointed at how unreliable this service is for customers and wish I would've stayed with Allstate roadside assistance. read more

Being a member does have its privileges. AAA Roadside battery repair saved my ass when my battery decided to die on me. I bought my own new battery at Lemay Auto Service (look for that review) up the street but they accidentally gave me the wrong kind. So the AAA guy gave me a replacement battery ($99 + tax; which was only $10 more than the one I bought at the auto parts store) and did the grimy job of prying my old corroded stuck-like-glue battery from the engine free of charge. Even if he had just jump-started the car, I would have STILL needed a Honda dealership just to loosen the connections enough to replace it on my own. He even hooked up a technical thingamajig to bypass my Honda's circuitry so that it didn't screw up all the original factory settings when we replaced the battery. AND he also completed a full battery diagnostic once the new battery was in place just to make sure nothing else might have led to the dead battery in the first place. AAA membership paid its worth in this one visit. read more

When I called up AAA I talked to a black lady and who not very helpful and I had to yell at her to be able to get the tow truck out as soon as possible and I was at the Love's Station on Hwy. 41 in Wadsworth, IL. and she said to me and when I called up at 3:10 and she told me that ohhhhh it's going to be 4'25 and before the tow truck comes out and I think that's Bullsh*t and it does not take an hour and 15 minutes for a tow truck to come out and because it should take no longer than a half an hour. So I called them up and to be able to get a tow truck out faster and I talked to a Mexican guy and he was giving me a bunch of Bullsh*t and I was yelling at him and then he got really mad and that's shows what kind of person he is and then when he got out there I made a mistake and by not rolling up my window and I told him that I am going to get it and he said no it's O.K. and I will do it and then he was not going to do it and I told him are you going to do it and he said yeah if you leave me alone. Then I let him do it and then he said it was 35 dollars for 5 miles after the first 5 miles and that are free. So when you pay to be a member and they charge for towing after the first 5 miles that Bullsh*t and because it was the first 3 tows of the year and you get free towing and after that you have to pay. Now they went down the toilet as far as their policies go and treating their customers. So they need to be fair with their policies and by treating their customers. read more

I made my call about 10 am or so today (Sunday 1/24/2021). I was assisted by a AAA member, and I let her know that my mother's car has a dead battery and for them to come and take a look at it. My mother is also a AAA member. The AAA battery was purchased on 2/7/2020 (it is less than a year old) by me on her behalf, and I have told her to limit going out since she is immunocompromised. A Deerfield (company that is contracted by AAA) gentleman Kevin Anthony came out and asked me how long the car has been sitting there. I told him about 2 weeks. He flat out refused to replace my battery which is under a 6-year warranty after showing me that it is a bad battery (after he hooked it to his machine; it said BAD battery in RED). I talked to Deborah, a AAA customer service employee, who was wonderful and assisted me (on behalf of my mother) in every way while Anthony was rude to Deborah and me. Anthony called his supervisor Destiny who was also rude to me and Deborah. Destiny, the Deerfield supervisor, told me and my mother to drive around and if the car goes dead again, to call AAA back. How ethical is it of Deerfield to let my elderly mother drive around on a bad battery waiting for it to fail while putting her in an unsafe position (should she get stalled in a bad place; and what if I was not there to help her since I'm a healthcare worker and can't just leave)? This is just begging for bad things to happen. Deborah connected me with the Resolutions Dept; I talked to Fred in the Resolutions Dept and Fred apologized and said he would send someone out to replace the battery since he himself agreed that the battery was under warranty. In about 45 mins or so I got a call from Auto-to-go who said they will NOT replace my mother's battery. So, I called AAA AGAIN. I spoke to Fiona in the Resolutions Department who tried to help and said Michael (who is her supervisor) would call me as he was a supervisor in the Resolutions Department. 2.5 hours later, no call. So, I called AGAIN and spoke to Samara who said she couldn't do anything but put in a complaint against Deerfield and the "Service Monitoring Dept" would be calling me in about 5-7 business days. She did end up giving me a complaint #; she did do at least that much for me. But obviously, that didn't help me in my current situation. I and my mother have been loyal PLUS members for 13 years and have never encountered such terrible customer service from AAA or Deerfield. Is the Resolutions Dept in name only because no one has been able to help me/my mother or been able to resolve this? After an hour long wait (I was on hold that whole time), I was finally able to talk to the supervisor in the Resolutions Dept, Susan, who I thought would help me. But my luck - not only was Susan rude, but she was also of no help. She said I need to get my (mother's) battery recharged myself by driving to Autozone with no offer to tow us there- seems like AAA was putting me and my mother in harm's way (they didn't care if the battery or me and/or my elderly mother was stalled on the road) just so I could get off their back - at least Susan made it seem like that. She said "we have to follow the battery protocol." I told her all she had to do was offer to tow the car to the nearest AAA and have them charge the battery for us, but she didn't. I had to come up with that idea all on my own. Later, she claimed it to be her idea. Unbelievable. My mother and I are very shocked and terribly disappointed in the customer service shown by the Resolutions Department. It is now almost 4 pm with no resolution and me calling them 4 times, and on hold for an hour each time I called. Susan, then, tells me to call again in the morning so they can tow my mother's car to a AAA shop and get the battery recharged. That was all she had to do to help a customer out, but she didn't even do that! Susan was continuously clacking on the keyboard and who knows what all she was typing/saying about me. She didn't even have the courtesy to answer me when I asked a question; she said "I'm making notes about this." She just continued to type without apologizing as she never answered my question. Unclear why they have people like Susan as supervisors in a Resolution Department. I mean why do I or my mother even have AAA especially if they can't help me or my elderly mother when we need them the most? Now I have to call AAA AGAIN tomorrow regarding the tow, and I can only hope I am available as I'm a healthcare worker who is actually taking care of covid patients. I will NEVER be buying AAA batteries -they will die on you before the year is up; and I certainly will not be renewing mine and my mother's AAA membership. I currently have a very poor opinion of AAA which I have never before had in the 13 years that I have been with them; this would have been my 14th year had I renewed. They have shown me in more ways than one that this membership, nor I/my mother, as a customer is worth much to them. read more

I contacted AAA to get help changing a flat tire. I waited three hours on the side of a busy interstate for a tow truck. After two and a half hours a representative called and said I see your call is still on the books. He then actually contacted someone to come and change my flat tire. By the time the driver got to me I had been sitting there three hours. The driver told me no one had ever contacted their dispatcher and they both told me to complain. If I could have given zero stars I would have. I went online to make an appointment for a tow. It's stated 39 mins for wait time. I had to use the bathroom so I left to find a restroom. I reviewed a text the technician was on his way. I immediately called them to tell them I was on my way back I had to use the bathroom. The gentleman put me on hold for about 10 minutes and said as long as you're there in 5 mins the technician will wait. Soon as I hung up with him the tech called and I told him the same thing. I arrived and seen the technician leaving. Here's the best part it wasn't a tow truck as I requested it was a small car( what was he going to do for me) 3 hours later another technician came with another small car I asked him where's the tow truck he said he was there to check the battery and give a jump I said I requested a tow truck he said it will be another 2 hours I waited from 4:10 PM to 10:04 PM I was tired and the area not safe for a women by herself so I cancelled. AAA changed my battery, and completely destroyed the computer system in my car. They were impossible to get in contact with- constantly having me on hold, transferring me left and right, and accidentally hung up on me a few times. They never returned my phone calls even though they said they would. I had to pay out of pocket to get my car fixed. My mechanic was shocked at how incompetent the person was who put in my battery and completely screwed up the entire computer calculation system. AAA could not care less about me as a member. Well, we have been members for 33 years- we rarely use it- but we bought a new RV so upgraded to the PREMIER RV that they offer. We have a flat tire on our RV on I-95 in Florida. We are headed home after a wonder 5 weeks covering the US. So as we sit on the shoulder of a busy highway we get a call that it will be ADDITIONAL 3 hours- they can't get anyone locally to change a flat on a small RV so are sending someone from Orlando - over 70 miles away!!!! Seriously??!! And when I called customer service the girl politely asked if we had someone that could come and change it for us. Really???? I was told the tow truck driver would be at my daughters car at 7:30 and they did not show up until 9 PM. I was then told that the tow truck did not have the right equipment and a second tow truck would need to be called. I was then told the next tow truck would be arriving at 12 midnight. I was told I could leave the keys in the car for the tow truck driver and I did not need to be present. 35 minutes later Albert Resnick from ANN Enterprises contacted me to say he would be at my daughters car in five minutes. If there was a negative start I will give AAA Roadside a a negative start. Don't get this service is horrible. My wife got stranded and it took 5 hours to get a tow truck to her. First they dispatch the wrong service and things went down hill after this. They kept telling us that the tow was on its way 3.5 hour later some showed up. With a major attitude and the first thing it come out of the truck driver was how much he needed it to get paid. At the end AAA cancelled the call and we ended up hiring some directly. I've had AAA Mid-Atlantic Roadside Assistance for decades, mainly for piece of mind. They have been helpful in the past, but no longer. Yesterday, I waited from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for car battery service/replacement, after being assured I would have an approximately 45 minute wait. Six hours and several phone calls later someone finally showed up. He didn't get the call from AAA until 4 p.m! The most disconcerting part of this experience was all the lies I was told throughout the day from different dispatchers while I waited: The driver is in Annandale (I am in Arlington) and you are next on the list (no show.) The driver is 6-1/2 miles away and you are next on the list (no show). The driver will be there in 20 minutes (no show). It will be another 90 minutes. And so on. Today I've been reading horror stories from other people with far worse stories than mine. Compared to them, my experience was just an inconvenience, but I am/was shocked by all the lies. read more
