Subject: Complaint Against AAMCO Location at 1266 Ralph Ave, Brooklyn, NY To Whom It May Concern, On August 22, 2025, at approximately 8:35 a.m., I arrived at the AAMCO located at 1266 Ralph Avenue, Brooklyn, NY for a scheduled 9:00 a.m. appointment to have my transmission fluid checked. I checked in with the receptionist, Nakita, who confirmed my appointment. I explained that I needed to leave within two hours to pick up my son from school, and she acknowledged this. I asked her for an approximate cost if a transmission fluid change was needed. She replied that she had no idea. I was then referred to the office manager (a heavyset, balding Hispanic male), but when I asked him for an estimate, he gave evasive responses such as, "It might be very expensive, we have to do the complete diagnostic on your vehicle, we don't know what it might need until we do it." I simply wanted a general price range but was not given any clear information. After waiting 2.5 hours, I noticed my car had not been worked on and was still sitting untouched. I explained to the receptionist that I needed to leave and asked to pay for whatever had been done so far. She told me I could not leave until they were finished. At this point, the service manager approached me and told me: "Take your car and don't come back here. Y'all [N-words] be bugging." I told him I was willing to pay for any services performed, but he refused, saying: "Your money's not good here, just don't come back here. We don't need your kind of money." I usually am weary of mechanics and try to do most work myself to save money. However My 1998 Civic EX Manual was in a state of disrepair I couldn't manage. I thought I had a master and slave cylinder issue, but AAMCO found that the whole clutch was installed poorly from the last guys that put it on who also did a engine swap for me at that time. The bill costed about 1400 bucks which hit hard when I heard it. I just thought it would be a master and slave cylinder job. Even with Labor that would have been 700 max with good quality parts (Not Duralast from Autozone). Of course when you hear that the shop needs to go for double the price you expect, it can make you skeptical and wonder if you're getting taking advantage of! HOWEVER AFTER THIS REPAIR my car has NEVER EVER EVER shifted better than it is now. Thank you AAMCO for the AMAZING work and professionalism. The job was done in less then a week. I would have given perfect score however the labor charge was a bit high. I also wanted to add, I read a few negative reviews about this business, 1 star reviews especially. It costs money to operate a business and diagnostic fees are normal practice with almost every mechanic. If they recommend work to be done, you don't have to agree to it and can take your car elsewhere. I am small business owner myself who knows what it takes to stay afloat. read more

Liars. I walked in with no check lights. I just wanteda transmission flush before I drive to California. I told them about the situation in great detail, including the unusual color of my ATF, and asked for a transmission flush. They sell me on a $50 diagnostic where they pulled a code and tell me that I need to rebuild my transmission. The guy shows me the unusual color of my atf, which I had pointed out before I gave him the keys. Went home and ran my own obd2 reader: no codes. Pointless diagnostic, non existent code, probably will need to rebuild, but not for the absurd $3000 price tag these corporate bums want to charge. Horrible experience. I took my car to AAMCO on Ralph Ave. because of a P1740 issue (& check engine light) and was told that there were three issues: 1) the transmission was filled with oil 2) the transmission needed to be fully cleaned and serviced 3) the system needed to be reset It took 4 days and cost me $900. I got the car back and in less than one hour of driving the check engine light was back on and my diagnostic tool picked up the P1740 issue. I called the place back and was told to bring it in to run a diagnostic. I asked if why the original diagnostic assessment didn't pick up the issue and was not given a straight response. Overall, probably the worst experience I've ever had with a mechanic. read more

AAMCO at 1266 Ralph Ave. Horrible experience. Went there for air conditioning problem. Charged me for diagnostic. I was told there were small holes in the pipes, that's why the Freon was leaking out. Air conditioner worked poorly for weeks. I went back. Then they tell me there's a bigger problem, which the first diagnostic didn't pick up. Told me only the Freon was under warranty. Never mind the $575 I already paid. Then, wanted to charge me over $1,100 more to fix the problem. I didn't let them do the extra work. Asked them to just put in more Freon and I would pick up the car. Picked up the car, air was not cool at all. I went to another mechanic next day, he informed me the car had no Freon in it at all. Be careful, worst experience I ever had with a mechanic. Ripping people off for their hard earned money. DON'T GO THERE!!! read more

My husband and I took our truck into them because we were having problems with the transmission which they put in & was still under warranty. This was the week before Thanksgiving at first they quoted us a price of $1400 cause they said we also have radiator issues. The day we go to pick up the truck which was the day before Thanksgiving they now talking $2200. Ok we paid it then the day after thanksgiving we still had issues took it back to them they are now saying the lines for the transmission are bad so we have to kick out another $400. Now here we are in February and we notice a leak. Took it to two mechanics & they both said the transmission lines are leaking. The original job which was done by Amaaco on Ralph ave they did not install the lines properly. Now if we did not catch it we would be still leaking transmission fluid & eventually the transmission would have went. They are a total rip off they lost business with us cause they only looking to line there own pockets & not help the customer. Bad Bad business!! by the way Wesley was the one that told us we didn't have to change the lines right away but two days later after picking up the truck we needed to go right back to them because the lines Wesley said we didn't need to change had went bad. If you're looking for an honest evaluation of your trans. and a fair quote GO ELSEWHERE. By no means am I a mechanic, but I have a decent understanding of repairs, and had taken the car to two other mechanics for estimates before leaving it at this Aamco branch. Two other mechanics estimated 1700 for a partial rebuild but because of time constraints and a quick glance at their Yelp reviews at top of reviews area (shoulda looked a bit further down), I decided to leave the vehicle with this Aamco branch. I respect their need to be paid to evaluate a transmission (circa $850), which I committed to. But the job quickly escalated to 4400 with an initial estimate at 2500. Very little communication from the office as the repair price escalated. This repair took two weeks for a car that is very easy to find parts for. I had to call constantly for updates. Besides being ripped off, sloppy work. Left a few hoses hanging of front of engine bc forgot to tighten bolts. SUMMARY: once they have you in the evaluation contract, they will use every opportunity to make a profit from your situation. I wish I had read their reviews on yelp more thoroughly because the positive ones seem to be written by an online reputation management company. Negative ones seem more realistic. In addition, if you check on youtube, there are countless examples of Aamco stations--not this location--taking advantage of customers. read more
