AAMCO at Cave Creek and Cactus, Phx, is okay for minor work, but keep in mind, major work AAMCO uses only aftermarket parts. OEM parts are refused and I was told they wouldn't be guaranteed under warranty??? Now I know maybe Transtar aftermarket solutions may or may not be reliable, but what idiot refuses to use OEM parts, especially with parts by Dodge. Dodge aftermarket parts have always given me problems. I asked for OEM and got aftermarket! I'm the one paying for those parts, so what's the problem? We'll see in future how my transmission feels about aftermarket parts. I'll be driving my Nitro the way it should be driven. Good luck AAMCO, I'm putting you to the test. Get a call the next morning saying they can't see anything wrong but for $412 they will figure it out, I said don't do anything went to pick up my car and they tell me sorry we misunderstood that you wanted the $160 ac service. THIS IS MY FAVORITE CAR REPAIR SHOP!! I have had consistently EXCELLENT SERVICE and superb work done at this location. I recently purchased a vehicle which this Aamco inspected for me. Before that, I had taken my original car (Kia Sorento) to them a few times for both minor and major repairs. I never had to bring my vehicle back for any re-occurring issues, my vehicle simply had 250k+ miles on it. Today I took in my new (used) Ford Explorer for an electrical issue which they easily identified and repaired, and they also replaced my oil. DO NOT TRUST THESE GUYS WITH YOUR VEHICLE. I get accidents happen. When I went to get back into my SUV after getting a new transmission I noticed my driver side seat had been broken. I take good care of my vehicle so it was quick to see this was new. I immediately showed the tech. I showed him how it was easy to see that this was a new break vs an old break I was trying to blame them them for (this happens at businesses like this). He took photos and said he would inform the supervisor (whom I had been working with since I brought my vehicle in) gone for the day. Several days and no return call. (NOTE: He was very quick to call me back to let me know that it was not cost effective to rebuild the transmission but instead buy a new one.) When the supervisor was there a few days later, I drove it back and showed him the break. He did whatever he could to displace any responsibility. I am 100% certain this happened in their care. He said he would call the owner and promised he would get back with me in less than 48 hours. Nothing... It is not the broken seat... accidents happen. It is less than a $100 piece. It is the fact that after I just spent over $3600 for a new transmission plus extras, they then squirmed away from any responsibility and no follow-up. Brought my truck ere nov of 2021 for a full rebuild on my 01 ram manual transmission. They charged me 3900 dollars for the job. I had to bring the truck back 2 more times in the first hundred miles for multiple "defective parts" installed. They had my truck for more than a month total and in the end their work lasted 16 months and 5000 miles before it failed again. Despite being only 5k miles into a 12k mile warranty, they declined to repair under warranty due to time elapsed. I brought my truck to another shop where I was informed that the transmission had not been rebuilt. In fact 3rd and 5th gear needed to be replaced completely, the input shaft was wobbly, and all bearing and synchros were bad. At this point the evidence shows that Aamco didn't actually rebuild my transmission but charged me a ridiculously high amount and left me do deal with the aftermath. NEVER USE AAMCO. If they'll knowingly do this to a single parent, imaging what they'll do to you read more

This is a very unusual situation. My fiancee's son, who lives in Texas, drove to Phoenix a couple of weeks ago on business. While here the transmission in his 2000 Lexus ES300, with 200,000+ miles on it failed. It wouldn't shift out of second gear and over heated. He couldn't drive over 45 MPH. On advice from his trusted mechanic in Texas he decided to have the transmission fluid, which was burnt, and transmission filter changed. I drove the car to AAMCO on Cave Creek Road and John Linsday took the car in for an estimate. What John didn't know is that I was pretty sure that the transmission was shot. I tried to explain that to my fiancee's son. Unfortunately, he is emotionally attached to that car, not to mention that he recently spent some money on it. He insisted on having the work done. It was a $189.95 gamble. To John's credit he refused to do the work, stating that changing the fluid would only make things worse. Even when I was willing to sign a liability waiver and insisted that he do the work . . . he refused. This is the kind of honesty in business that I look for. Kudos, John. read more

Do not go here! We paid thousands of dollars and they kept saying that it's the motor mound and it's not they supposedly fixed the transmission but never did. John is very rude and so is the owner they have no customer service skills very disgraceful place DO NOT GO HERE! We took the car 3 days later were charged 3,800 to rebuild transmission then we said it wasn't running right. They said transmission was trying to connect with computer and after 2,000 miles it would connect with computer to run right..really? After many more miles put in we called them dropped it off on Monday. 4 days later no call from them then we called and they said its the engine and that they would charge another 196 to check the engine. Then John said that we could take to other mechanic and if we didn't trust them to go somewhere else. Then he said he couldn't do anything and this call was going no where. Our car has been having trouble and after taking it to no less than three places Brian at Aamco solved the problem! We were told at another place we may need a new transmission or possibly new tires. To our great relief, Brian said our transmission was in great shape, was well made, but we needed a right wheel bearing (left was changed at another shop recently). I hate getting my car repaired. This huge wave of dread washes over me . The cost, the hassle, the "persuasive" mechanics.....ugh. Our little truck's clutch had kinda been acting a little "off" lately. Sometimes it was really hard to get it into gear, the next day it would be fine. The first time it wouldn't go into gear when I was driving, I felt the wave. OMG! a new clutch? That is going to be alot of cash! I will wait. So, we are on Forest Road 300, trucking to our camp spot and it wouldn't go into gear......not good. Eventually it did and we had no problems getting home.........so, we began calling around....... Actually J called around ....he knows how upset I get when I hear the price....... After hearing rates from $1,000 to $1500 , He found someone who would do the replacement for a price I could live with! It wasn't the lowest that we came across,(uh yeah, I don't like to spend alot , but $250 for the replacement was a little scary) but it was very reasonable and the company reputable. J talked to Steve at Aamco and he was friendly, professional and didn't try to add on additional repairs. He kept us updated throughout the day on the status(which I really appreciate!) and by 430p she was ready to be picked up! They did a great job! Great for transmission repairs. Had my transmission fluid drained and new filter put in. Then I asked what they would charge for brakes and a motor mount, that's when everything went down hill. He told me it's a waste of time to turn rotors he would need to replace my brakes front and back. Then he quoted me 250.00 for just a new motor mount. Including replacing the brakes it was over $800.00. Well, I own a ford, and motor mounts are covered under warranty until 60,000 miles. And come to find out I also had a broken transmission mount as well. Since they are a transmission shop, shouldn't they have told me I had a broken tranny mount. I took it to the car dealer and was told it was covered under my power train warranty. SO, shouldn't AAMCO know this? And the dealer fixed both mounts and charged me NOTHING. And to turn the rotors on my brakes at a brake shop was only 100.00. They are just ripping you off if you ask them to fix anything but your transmission in my opinion. read more

I went to AAMCO Transmission to get my transmission fluid power flushed. I was told we can't do that because your truck has 100,000 miles, which is true.They said they would give me a new fluid, filter and gasket for $10 less than the coupon I had for $59.95. 10 minutes later I get a phone call saying I have several engine error codes. I was told since the transmission Works in line with the computer, which is true,that I would have to get these codes fixed before they could proceed I asked them how could I have an error codes when I've never had a check engine light? The manager replied maybe they've come on and you just didn't notice them . Suddenly he says the check engine light is on. I told him it will come on anytime you unplug one of the sensors and if that's what you're doing you need to stop. He brought me out to a the mechanic and told him that I was accusing him of unplugging sensors to make money. I never did accuse that mechanic. After a very heated debate I got my bill which was $65.43. I gave him $70 because I didn't want this shady manager to have my credit card info. The manager came back and said with a grin it must be your lucky day I don't have any change so he gave me a $5 bill back saving me $0.43. DON'T GO HERE EVER! The owner (Scott) is mechanically inept. Which is probably the reason he didn't explain any of the diagnostics or repair to me. He doesn't even know the difference between oil and tranny fluid. Tranny fluid has a distinct smell and has a red hue, oil is brown. After his shop charged me $1300 to replace the tranny lines in my 2000 Corvette with 65K miles, I took my car back three times because I'm getting puddles of tranny fluid under the tranny cooler on my car. My car has never leaked a drop of anything. The tranny lines were replaced after they failed and sprayed tranny fluid all over my engine compartment and belly of my car. The first time I brought my car back after the AAMCO "repaired" it, Scott told me that there is no leak. He said it's residual fluid dripping off the car from when the break occurred. The second time I brought my car back, he told me that there was no leak and that it was oil. The third time I brought it back, he repeated the claims he made the second time. So, I got under my car at home, took pictures of a drop of tranny fluid on the bottom of the tranny cooler directly over the new puddle of tranny fluid on my floor, and at the request of the mechanic (Steven) sent the pictures to him via text. Steven never replied. Even after a subsequent request for a reply, still nothing. So I called Scott again and he claimed again that it was oil and that he wouldn't look at it again. He told me to take it to another AAMCO and have them call him. I will be taking it elsewhere and suing this AAMCO to recover my costs, including the cost of returning to his shop three times (80 miles roundtrip, plus rides to and from when I left it there) and the cost of fixing the problem correctly. This is why I have done all the work on this car myself since I bought it new. read more

If you want a worst case scenario rebuild price just for the manager to tell you he can't so he can screw you later on with the price when your transmission is out of the vehicle already then this is the shop for you. If you want your personal belongings inside of the truck to be gone thru then this is the shop for you. If you want to get the cops involved because the manager threatens to physically remove you from the property when you come to pick your vehicle up from their shop and have it towed to a better and more reliable shop then this is the shop for you. If you want to be talked down to by the manager and talked over then this is the shop for you. If you want other parts on your vehicle damaged then this is the shop for you. If you want your interior to smell like gear oil and have stains all over it then this is the shop for you. If you want the manager to deny you of paying with a card stating that you can only pay with cash or a cashier's check then this is the shop for you. I have had nothing but a horrible experience with this AAMCO location. If I could rate this shop 0 stars I definitely would. I would advise everyone against going to this shop. I have plenty of pictures and video proof backing up the damage to my vehicle and my story which is too long to post on this review. Like I said earlier, it you want to be screwed then this is the shop for you! I have already filed a complaint with the better business bureau and I am going to corporate with my complaints and story. I needed an oil change and I wanted to find a place close to my home now that I'm in charge of my car. There had been a coupon that came in the mail that I decided to use. After calling the store close to me I made an appointment for the next day. The gentleman taking my call was very helpful and informative. My only complaint was that he was not wearing a mask and there was no hand sanitizer available for my use when coming and going. I think this practice should be used in all business in the immediate future. read more

My husband was told by an auto parts store employee that the AAMCO service shop on Cave Creek Rd. did free diagnoses on "check engine" lights. I looked online and found it in bright blue and red: "FREE - Check engine light on? We'll check it for FREE!" So he takes his car in. They look under the hood. They check the oil. They check the transmission fluid. They check the water. They take it for a test drive. "Runs just fine," he is told. Hubby says," I know that, I want to know why the check engine light is on." John L proceeds to explain that if he wants a diagnosis on the computer, then that is a $105 charge. What he got was a general, basic examination; to actually check the on-board computer (which generates the "check engine" light) he would be taking the diagnosis up a level and have to pay for it. At the very least, this is dishonest. In my opinion, it is criminal violation of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's truth-in-advertising laws. Whether this deceitful practice is sanctioned by the corporate heads of AAMCO or not, it should not be permitted or tolerated and should be exposed. The auto parts store that supplied the information has been informed of this lie and indicated they will not be recommending AAMCO to any other customers. Consider it exposed. read more

The worst car experience; actually the worst customer experience I have ever had. Spent $4000 on a new transmission and radiator. Radiator leaked, causing transmission to again go bad, so they say. Took it back a second time, they said 5-7 days. They had it for 11 days. Get the car back, engine light comes on in 2 days. They say nothing is wrong. I take it to another Aamco for diagnosis, and they say a transmission code comes up. Take the car back to this Aamco on Cave Creek on a Saturday. They say they will call before they close. They don't call. Please, please do not use this place. The mechanics they have are not good, and the office staff and manager lie with no problems doing so. read more

I had the ABSOLUTE WORST experience at an AAMCO in Phoenx, AZ on Cavecreek Rd.I had just had a service done on my vehicle at a Dodge Dealership (brand new shifter cable installed $300) and the promptly drove it to AAMCO to have some transmission work estimated and repaired. About 3 hours after i dropped the car off, I received a call from the owner Scott and he informed me that he had broken the brand new shift cable. After I asked him if hw would be replacing it because he broke it on his property, he told me very rudely that it was not his responsibility even though he did it and on his lot. He then tried to back peddle and say that he infact never even drove the vehicle, the shift cable somehow magically broke on his lot and the transmission needed a complete rebuild at a price between $2500-$4800. Pretty big ballpark. Well, in the end he agreed to put a new cable on at his expense and i was going to have the vehicle taken to a different garage that immediately know the issue and offered a repair for $1200. I called a tow truck, had the vehicle moved to that new location and can you guess what...HE LIED and never replaced the shift cable he broke...leaving me out $300 within a matter of hours after having a brand new cable put on the vehicle and being taken to his shop. I would like this matter looked into ASAP and contacted with a resolution. This owener Scott is a shame to the AAMCO name and brand and should be reprimanded! A brief summary of my experience with AAMCO is as follows: On February 10, 2009 I brought my 1989 Nissan Pickup into AAMCO Transmissions for an estimate. Firestone had inspected the vehicle and determined that the transmission had a "synchro problem" but could not give an estimate as they do not repair transmissions. The AAMCO representative Rob informed me he could perform a free estimate, but I would have to leave truck with him. I explained the diagnosis from Firestone but he would not give me ANY idea of the repair cost involved. He kept me from leaving AAMCO to return later by lying about a rental car pickup that was delayed 40 minutes. This was confirmed by the Enterprise Rental Manager. After leaving the truck at AAMCO, Rob called me the next day and said the repair would cost $650 in total labor of which $395 was to take the transmission apart to diagnose. NO FREE ESTIMATE! My truck was torn apart and I was held hostage for $400 just to get my truck back with NO repair! He said the parts will cost $1300 so I asked if a rebuilt transmission would be a better choice. He explained that a rebuilt would cost about twice as much as parts for the current transmission. I explained I don't have $2000 dollars when he offered to see if I could "qualify" for credit. I did not ask for, request, or accept any credit. Any information he obtained from me was not to apply for or accept any credit. In fact no paperwork was given to me regarding any credit. On the same day Rob informed me that a rebuilt transmission was more expensive I found a company that would have sold me a complete rebuilt transmission with a 12 month warranty for $550! I learned from Rob that AAMCO only will only give me a 90 day warranty and they will not install anyone else's transmissions. Rob replaced parts that he said looked new. When I asked for the parts back I never received them. When I was presented with the bill (now for even more money!), I gave him a coupon I received from AAMCO.com for $100 off any rebuilt transmission. He refused to honor the coupon from AAMCO at all. In conclusion, 1.) I was lied to so I would not leave AAMCO. 2.) Prevented from getting any other estimates. 3.) Forced into a repair I cannot afford. 4.) I was lied to about a less expensive option for repairs. 5.) Given credit I did not request nor am able to pay 6.) Was required to keep (and pay for) a rental car longer than I was originally told 7.) Refused a discount provided by AAMCO 8.) Left with a filthy truck interior 9.) My turn signals were broken 10.) The transmission now makes a whining sound. 11.) The 1st and 2nd gears now stick. 12.) A knocking noise can be heard. 13.) My request for my 3 day right of rescission as outlined by the Federal Trade Commission was ignored. I have extended an offer to pay this store owner the amount I would have been charged had by choice to obtain other estimates had not been taken away. Under this agreement I was willing to ignore the interior cleaning cost and repair to the turn signals. He has refused my offer. I have presented this information to AAMCO Transmissions, Inc, the Better Business Bureau, the Office of the Attorney General Consumer Information and Complaints, the Federal Trade Commission, and am pursuing media outlets and any legal means available to inform others of these unethical business practices. read more

Took it to Midway Chevy, found that the water pump they were supposed to replace with a new one, was old, worn and looked as if it wasn't replaced at all. They had my car for a week and never did anything. I dropped my car off on Monday, asking for a quote and repair to be done while I was out of town for a few days on a work trip. I never got a call with a quote until I pestered them a couple times. I don't know what the delay was. They originally said they'd call Mon afternoon or Tues a.m. The quote was finally provided on Friday, over $1000 for suspension work. Then on Monday I get another call saying they'd ordered the wrong parts, and the actual total would be over $1400. I told them no, they'd already given a quote and the mistake was on them. They of course refused to do the work. Then they called back and offered an approx. $200 discount over that, for only $250 more than originally quoted. I asked for a specific breakdown of parts and labor charges, which they refused to provide. So, I picked up my car - they'd had it for 7 days, no work done, no apology offered by their staff, and no written quote materials were available when I asked for them. Finally, during the week they had the car they offered twice to send photos of the things that needed repair, but they never sent them. So this appears to be a shop that is either incompetent or dishonest, perhaps both. read more

After we paid for a total transmission ( the price kept changing from quote) then there was another big problem which again another couple of thousand to fix...meanwhile looking at other shops to compare, we found out we were being totally ripped off and then pulled the car out of this shop over to another one for less than half the price. John the manager was so pissed to lose the business he charged us another fee which was excessive just to leave. And all of a sudden didn't take credit cards, cash only. Omg. This is how you run a business? Other issues happened and when escalated to the owner Scott L, he was unwilling to hear the customer complaint. The owner! The shop manager, Cory, spoke with me and made me comfortable with leaving my car at the competitor's shop because the other shop also does very good work at a very reasonable rate. Got my transmission rebuilt for 4k in July 2015. Their owner smokes on the job. Took them weeks to do the repair which they estimated would take no more than 5 business days. Had to bring the transmission back 3 more times through January 2016 before it would stop being actively broken. Making the total time in the shop well over a month. Moreover the transmission that I got back does not shift smoothly in and out of gear. As compensation for their horrible service, they offered me 4 free oil changes. After the second one, I came back and they refused to give me the oil change because I didn't have the receipt from the previous one - As if they don't have logs of their transactions. John is a pretty good guy, but he's the only thing keeping them afloat. After I got it back for fixing my transmission for the fourth time, their secretary, Scott, (Who I now know is the owner. He doesn't act like one) told me that they had found a leak of my power steering fluid and that would lead to more problems. They wanted my car (more so my money) again. I told them no because I had taken my car when it needed a new transmission to the "transmission specialists" and that took them a month and 4 visits to get taken care of. When I headed out to leave their owner, Scott, grabbed a cigarette and walked out with me, lit it, and tried to tell me that nothing fishy was going on and that they really wanted to get the leak fixed. All while exposing me to second hand nicotine and tar. He didn't even try to not exhale in my face/direction. Five months later, I am still monitoring the 'leak' and there has been no change in the power steering fluid level. They have a sign giving out oil changes for positive Yelp reviews, becaus they really need the help. Don't go to this location for general auto repair, and if you need transmission help, find a team with a shred of human decency. read more

I took my van in on Friday January 4th for a free check on the transmission, I had a 10 am appointment.. The diagnostic analysis showed I did have a leak.. John the manager went over the different options with and I left my van there and he was suppose I get back with me before closing on Friday what they found when they got the transmission off... well I had to call him on Saturday and he told me the van would need a rebuilt transmission but that his distributors were closed and he would get back with me on. Monday morning January 7th.. I did not hear from this morning so I called at 12:38 and he said he had some numbers for me but that he was with a customer could he call me back in 30 minutes, I said sure.. well at 4:30 I still had not heard back from him so I called him BACK AGAIN and asked him if he could talk and he said once AGAIN he was with a customer he would call me in 5 minutes AGAIN I SAID SURE As of 7:05 pm Monday January 7th I still do not have my quote on how much the cost will be to repair my vehicle...
