This place is the real deal. If your mom didn't tell you that the best ethnic food comes in the plainest package, let me be the one. With all the low health scores lately, Aapka still got a 100 and isn't in a fancy/brand-new facility. They genuinely care about the health of their customers and it shows. The restaurant is in the back of the Montana's shopping center, so it's not hard to find but not visible easily from the road. The menu is focused on regional cuisine, fresh ingredients, authentic recipes, and the needs of their local customer base. Kay (the owner) told us quite about about her focus on Northern Indian cuisine, which is less hot, so this is a great place for beginners - especially on Saturday or Sunday when there's a buffet with a good variety of items and good quality. Their staff is well-trained and friendly. The gentleman who was working on Saturday took plenty of time to explain dishes on the buffet and was obviously well-aware of how the food was made. I can't eat dairy, and a lot of Indian dishes have cream, yogurt, or butter, but they had 3 dairy-free dishes on the buffet! I would have been totally happy with that, but he also brought me special vegan sweets because the gulab jamun on the buffet had dairy. I don't have any pictures of the food we ate but I guess when I saw the food I went straight for it instead of photos We arrived like 30 minutes before they closed. The restaurant was nicely decorated. Ram was super nice and super helpful as we had lots of questions. The first time we ate paneer biryani. I've had a lot of biryanis but this one was by far my favorite. Spice level was just right. We had asked if they made Jain food (we had searched far and wide). They were so gracious and helpful to make special chaats for Jain (it was perfect for our housewarming ceremony). This is a very small restaurant about 1 year in business. We ordered chicken 65 and manchurian for starters. Machirian did not taste like Manchurian. Chicken 65 was just about average. Our main dishes were Shahi paneer, chicken biryani and goat vindaloo. Goat vindaloo was the only dish that was palatable with very limited goat pieces and more of potatoes. That was surprising as the price was comparable to a larger restaurant with better amenities. What a hidden gem! Tucked away in the back of a shopping center, I don't know that I would have heard about Aapka if it weren't for finding it on Yelp. I can't emphasize enough how excited I am to have an Indian vegetarian restaurant in East Cobb. The restaurant is really small inside, only four tables or so, so they do have a sign on the door asking you to call first if you're planning to dine in. My husband, who is a vegetarian and adores Indian food, loved the food here. We shared samosa chaat ($7.99), malai kofta ($11.99), and bhagara baigan ($9.99). Each item was full of flavor and portions were substantial, especially for prices lower than most Indian restaurants in the area. We're looking forward to coming back and making Aapka a regular choice for Indian takeout or a meal out. read more

Discovered this place quite by accident on Yelp. I would have never found it otherwise, given that it is in a small strip mall hidden (from the street) behind another building. I only had the pani puri, which was good. The chai was excellent. The service was excellent. I had an opportunity to chat with the owner for a few minutes. She is incredibly sweet. She reports that word-of-mouth has helped her business tremendously. I'm happy to hear this, because otherwise it would be hard to discover this place any other way given its out-of-the-way location. The food here is authentic Indian food. I was in heaven! I ordered lamb sag and it was so flavorful with just the right amount of spices and so aromatic! The naan was freshly made to order. I could on an on but you need to try for yourself if you want to experience it! It is hard to find (just like real Indian food is) it's tucked in the back row behind Montana bar and grill. The only reason this isn't busy is that people haven't realized it's here. It's a little behind Johnson Ferry so you'll never see it from the road. Very good service. I pass this Indian restaurant every day on my way to work and my way home. It's relatively new and I have wondered if it was good. Tonight I took a chance and grabbed my mom and we tried it out. My mom had the vegetable Manchurian and garlic naan. I had the thali and we both had samosas. Everything was really good. The thali was smaller than some I have had, but it was very reasonably priced and tasty. My mom loved her dish as well. There weren't many other people there when we ate but this place is fresh and good. We will definitely be back!! We ordered food to go couple of weeks back. Kirti. the order taker, was lovely to talk to. She explained how the food was made in the kitchen like Naan bread was made in the clay oven and not just picked up from another grocery store. We waited for maybe 10 minutes, and our order was hot and ready to go. Butter Paneer - Paneer was tender and soft, not rubbery at all. Gravy was tasty. We would prefer more panner cubes and a little thicker gravy, but that is just us. Veg. Korma and Chilli butter naan were great too. We will be back to order more takeouts in the future. AFA is in a tiny strip mall, behind Montana Grill. Google maps directed us correctly. There were lot of parking spaces. Dine-in is a little tight so call in-advance if you plan to eat there so you are not disappointed. read more

I ordered enough for leftovers for 2 additional days: dalpuri, (my favorite), samosa chat, special basket chat (both filing and yummy), momos dumplings, bhagara Belgan (eggplant the best), paneer butter masala, special aloo gobi, gobi Manchurian, garlic naan and mixed pickles. My husband loves mango lassis and this one was just right "not too sweet". I am thrilled this opened up down the street!! My husband and I consider ourselves vegetarian Indian food connoisseurs, and this food passed all the tests while adding the feeling it was cooked in a friend's kitchen with care. The owner is delightful and so welcoming, having us sampling some desserts while we waited. I told her halwa was my favorite and she went in the kitchen coming back with a sample she had made for her son! Samosa chaat was perfection-just the right amount of chutneys and yogurt. Paneer Biriyani was spicy, huge portion and delicious. Paneer butter masala had a scrumptious flavor, it was obvious this had been nurtured along as the spices were allowed to blend. The onion kulcha was one of the best I have had-not greasy at all and to finish it off we had raita that was rich, thick and delicious. Not the easiest place to find on Johnson's Ferry behind Montano's, but certainly worth discovering. So excited to have them just around the corner-we will definitely be regulars. read more

Just thick enough! And natural ingredients. I added Paneer Butyer Masala. Excellent choice! The man at the counter was very polite and helpful when I as trying to decide between 2 meals. Omg I love this place!!! This was my first time visiting and still definitely be coming back again! I had placed an order ( butter chicken masala and garlic naan for $23.30) and was told it would be like 35 minutes before I could pick up. I was totally fine since I was far away and was told they were busy so it's understandable. When I got there the lady at the front who handed me my food was so kind! She even complimented me with a desert! On top of that, the food is given in hefty portions and the naan is hugeee! I still had left over This place is so yummy! This place is a literal hidden gem; if we hadn't known it was there I never would have gone because it's so far back from the road and that would have been a shame because let me tell you, this food is DELICIOUS!! Service was also excellent and prices very reasonable. The food is wonderful and flavorful without being greasy or heavy at all. Spiced just right to be full of flavor rather than just spicy. The Paneer Masala was especially delicious but we didn't have a single dish that we didn't thoroughly enjoy. Delicious- will be back! First off, let me share some updates from what prior reviewers have said. For one, this place has plenty of seating. They've expanded since they first opened and there are plenty of places to dine in. For another, AFA is not just for vegetarians. My husband got the Biryani with lamb and I tried a taste and we both agreed it was like a flavor explosion - loved all the spices in it. I got the aloo gobhi and it was also very good (although I want a little more spicy next time, but that's just me!). I would say that having wine would be a nice added touch (not sure if they are intending to get alcohol license though). Overall the place is very clean and they were very attentive to us and making sure we enjoyed our experience, which we appreciated. If you like Indian food, you should definitely try AFA--You won't be disappointed! read more
