First time visitor. Dr Spitz is experienced and sharp. No complaints with him. The in office wait time is terrible. A couple of receptionists are inattentive keeping their faces buried in their screens. Their new ModMed system for scheduling is broken. Upon leaving they told me to expect them to take a week for a scheduler to call me back (I asked that they call within two days to schedule my procedure and they looked at me with a face indicating a week was best case). They need to shut down for a day and do some serious training while hiring a first rate office manager with client engagement skills they can teach. I will do the follow up procedure but may have chosen a different practice if I'd known of the current office dysfunction. I hope reviews like this stimulate positive change and my next review is five star. read more

Dr. Spitz is truly an exceptional urologist--he is knowledgeable, attentive, and provides excellent care. However, my experience with his practice has been severely tainted by the unprofessionalism of the nursing and scheduling staff. Despite numerous attempts, the staff consistently fails to return phone calls, text messages, or emails regarding important patient needs and concerns. This isn't just my experience; a quick glance at other reviews shows countless complaints about the same issue. It's incredibly frustrating and disheartening when you can't get a response for something as crucial as your health. This kind of negligent service from the staff has made me question my decision to stay with this practice, despite Dr. Spitz being such a great doctor. It's a shame because the doctor deserves better support, and so do his patients. I sincerely hope the practice takes these concerns seriously and implements changes, as it's unacceptable for the administrative side of care to be this lacking. You would think that with this many complaints about the nursing / scheduling staff that they would have done something by now to fix this never ending issue. read more

My mother and I were very impressed with Dr. Spitz. We met him at the ER at Mission Hospital. His bedside manner was calm, caring, and he is definitely a class act. He sincerely cares for his patients and looks out for their well being both emotionally and physically. He took the time to answer all my questions even when he was about to prepare for surgery. I have been seeing Dr. Spitz for over seven years now. I have only praise for him. He is extremely professional, incredibly knowledgeable, and I have never had an issue with him being late as I have read in other reviews. I cannot say those reviews are not valid, but in seven years I cannot recall having to wait more than 15 min or so. I have always had my medications refilled when I call, and the office staff has been very nice, and well organized. And if that is not enough, you can probably trust his education, which if my memory serves me, he was top honors at Cornell University. You don't get that distinction by being anything but smart as hell. I can go on, but I think I have said enough. Oh wait!! Dr. Spitz helped my wife and I have a beautiful baby girl. Dr. Spitz has been my urologist for over 20 years. He is an excellent practitioner and has taken care of all my issues over those years, all with a positive outcome. He is friendly, attentive and answers any questions I may have. I have referred many of my friends to him over the years, all with a very positive response. As I've read most of the reviews, both good and bad, I have to say the internal workings of his office needs to be more in tune with their patient's needs. I, too, have had many issues with non-returned phone calls, lack of follow through on paperwork needed, and a arrogant and unfriendly attitude from the nurses staff. and in general not a very pro-patient mentality. Also, Dr. Spitz does have a problem with being on time with appointments. I don't mind 15-20 minutes late, due to seeing other patients, but to not come in the room to let me know what's going on is unacceptable. However, in the long run, if you can overlook all of that, he is the best urologist in O.C. I would go nowhere else. read more

Dr. Spitz has been my Urologist since 2012. My primary care doctor sent me to him to determine if I should be prescribed testosterone, she had already tested my prostate for any problems and did not locate any issues. However, Dr. Spitz did a much more detailed test and determined a spot on my prostate that need testing. The test verified I had prostate cancer and as a result the cancer is now gone. Thanks to Dr. Spitz. I recommend that anyone who has or thinks they have prostate cancer or problems, should immediately make an appointment with Dr. Spitz. Your future existence will improve. It is in his honor that I have made my body donation to the UCI Medical Center. I recommend him and his team above all others. I have a son who passed away in 2014 from prostate cancer. Dr. Aaron Spitz is one of the worst M.D.s I have ever had. As one example, after a cystoscopic exam of my urinary tract, I developed a severe severe urinary tract infection. Without doing a culture, his nurse prescribed an antibiotic that didn't work. When the infection blocked my urinary tract, and I could no longer urinate, his nurse sent me to the ER. The ER doctor was appalled at the severity of the infection and the lack of treatment by Dr. Spitz and his medical staff. In another incident, I was scheduled for a routine surgical procedure at 4pm. Dr. Spitz didn't arrive at the hospital until 10pm. He was scheduled to do a follow-up exam at the hospital the next morning. He didn't show up. Instead, he sent a colleague who came into my hospital room all dressed up in a suit and tie, not in scrubs or other exam-appropriate clothing. The colleague just asked, "you ok?" When I said "I think so," the colleague immediately left without checking the site of the surgery. It turned out that Dr. Spitz had left surgical gauze in my urethra, two strands of which were fully visible where they dangled out of the opening of my urinary tract. The failure to do the follow-up exam resulted in another severe infection, which had to be fixed by another doctor. With the exception of one auxiliary nurse, the nursing staff lacked the competence and willingness to do their jobs. read more

Subsequently, I scheduled a follow up appt with the PA (Olivia), and that event was equally exceptional. My wife and I specifically changed our insurance plan during open-enrollment to try and see specialists for fertility issues. During this time, I spoke with representatives from Dr. Spitz's office on two separate occasions to ask if they would accept my insurance plan. They asked what the reason for my visit would be and I specifically said for fertility, to which they said that should be fine considering the plan I have. After my initial consultation, the staff said that I would have to pay $300 out-of-pocket while they make a claim to see if my insurance cover this visit. I was perplexed and asked why this was the case since I confirmed over the phone twice. They assured me it was standard procedure and to check back with the billing department in a few days to see how things went. We scheduled some follow up appointments and they recommended I do lab work which I also paid out-of-pocket because I did not yet meet my deductibles for the year. I found it incredibly difficult to get in touch with the staff regarding my reimbursement and left several voice messages. A few days later, I got a call back stating that my insurance would NOT be accepted, and that I would be considered a cash patient. Again perplexed by this, I asked why and they said it was because my visit was for fertility issues. I was floored. Despite my explanations about the previous phone calls, there was no apology or desire to help correct things. I cancelled my other appointments and decided to look for another urologist. Fast forward a few weeks and I just received a note from my insurance company that Dr. Spitz's office made a claim for my visit and received some money! So not only did they tell me I was a cash patient and collected $300 from me, they made a claim for my visit and received money from insurance. The insurance paperwork states that my co-pay for this visit should have been a flat fee of $30. I left messages to resolve this matter but have not yet heard back. This is not ok. read more

Spent 30-40 minutes laying on my back with my nuts out awaiting Dr. Spitz for my vasectomy... no apology offered when he finally arrived. Impossible to get in contact with post surgery. Phone number on his website is disconnected. The other number went straight to his voicemail. Never got a call back. I eventually tracked down a phone number for the location in Mission Viejo where I had my consult (he works out of multiple locations) in order to learn my test results. Left waiting for 7 days after having dropped off my sample. Doubt I ever would have received a call back if I'd continued waiting. 2 stars only because the vasectomy worked. read more
