    Chocolate Almond

I've been to this location a few times. It's seasonally open. They put out some chairs so you can sit outside. The inside is small it's basically a take out only situation. Staff is friendly enough, but know what you want to order. They share a parking lot.

    Such a great location

When thinking about things I miss since moving away from the Rochester area, frozen custard from Abbott's is near the top of the list. We decided to stop at this Abbot's location when back in the area the other day. Cute building right on the canal. The star of the visit was naturally the frozen custard. It's served differently than most other frozen custard establishments which fill your cone directly from rhe machine, much like any soft serve ice cream. At Abbott's it's taken from the machine and put into big containers where it's then scooped, more like hard ice cream. Not sure if it makes a difference in the flavor somehow but the custard here is creamier while also a big harder than other places. Overall just plan delicious! 2023-35

I grew up coming here and it is great seeing it now. I love the expanded inside and the dock outside. This was the first time I brought my husband here during warm weather and he loved the the chocolate peanut butter ice cream. I got the chocolate almond, because it is amazing.

Perfect after meal treat. We grabbed our ice cream and we put by the canal to enjoy. So happy they had a vegan option. The workers were so friendly!

Probably the best Abbott's in ROC during the summer months. This charming shop is located right along the canal. I enjoyed a sweet and salty chocolate almond in a cone and ate it while soaking up the sun on the bench directly outside the shop. As I was savoring my cone, I was savoring the sights; boats were gliding by with a few waving passengers, a couple was walking down the path hand-in-hand, a mom with her two daughters were sitting in the grass enjoying their treats, a young couple preparing their kayaks to ride. Peaceful and picturesque.

Medium which is two small scoops of custard

My first time having custard and it was quite delicious. But it is very expensive given how much you get. My husband got a medium sized pier butter cup Sunday in the same size covers me which was a medium. However they gave him only one scoop of custard and so it was mostly toppings. They only have 5 flavors on any given day and two yogurt options. The teenage girls serving didn't look happy to be there.

Was spending some time on a friends' boat on the Erie Canal and they pointed out that Abbot's is a local specialty. We stopped and got off for a quick bite. This isn't ice cream and it's very clear- much creamier and sweeter. Personally this is not my kind of thing but it was a nice stop nonetheless. I had the mint with oreo cookies and raspberry; it was nice they let you split flavors in even a small size. Both were way too sweet for me; I wished there was more mintiness in the former and more tartness in the latter. I also tried the salted caramel (not salty enough) and rainbow sherbet (pretty good). They have some sugar free and low fat options also. Overall, 3 stars for the custard plus an extra one because the location is awesome.

I just came from this place. Its tiny inside (no place to eat) but lots of tables outside by the water. I picked up a small waffle cone, about $4.50, with half vanilla and half chocolate almond, the latter was delicious with real almond pieces. The only thing was that the custard wasn't cold enough and dripped super fast, even when it wasn't that cold out--so fast I was so busy with it dripping I forgot to take a photo! The waffle cone was very tasty and crunchy.

I ordered the PB Crunch, which is sweet cream ice cream loaded with Oreos, hot fudge, and peanut butter crunch. It was rich, creamy, and the perfect combination of chocolate and peanut butter. Every bite was delicious! One thing to know before you go is that this place is popular, so the line can get pretty long. However, it's well worth the wait because the quality of the ice cream is outstanding. If you're looking for a great local spot for ice cream around Rochester, Pittsford Farms Dairy is a must-visit. Come prepared to wait a little, but you'll be rewarded with some of the best ice cream in the area!

Both flavors were incredible: super creamy and rich. My friend got chocolate almond fudge, and that was just as good. We also grabbed some baked treats to go (brownie, whoopie pie, and muffins), and everything tasted amazing. Other than sweet treats, they also have coffees and teas on their menu, and a bunch of different dairy products. It feels cozy, local, and authentic - like everything is fresh or straight from the farm. It's actually part of a long-standing local farm operation, which makes the experience feel even more genuine. I also loved that they support other local businesses and sell products from them, it adds to that community feel. Overall, this place is more than just an ice cream stop, it's a whole experience. Definitely coming back.

The staff are friendly and helpful, too. Honestly, though, the best feature of this place is its location. It sits right near the Erie Canal, so you can get a cup of gelato, walk a few hundred yards down the canal path, and then settle onto a bench, look out over the water, and enjoy your gelato. That setting does more for the experience than anything on the menu. I do have a few concerns, though. The plastic serving cups are too small for the amount of gelato they hold, so it tends to melt and run down the sides, making for a messy experience. The plastic "spoon" is weirdly shaped like a small, flat shovel, and I much prefer a utensil shaped like a conventional spoon. Lately I've taken to bringing my own metal spoon with me. The cups also have an odd scalloped shape rather than smooth sides. I don't see any advantage to it, and it just makes getting all the gelato out harder than it should be. Switching to bigger cups with smooth sides, ideally biodegradable paper, would be an easy fix. As for the gelato itself, it's good but not great. I do enjoy sitting outside on a warm summer evening with a cup, but I can't say I ever find myself craving the product. Finally, and this is admittedly a very minor point, "Royal Café" is not a great name for this type of establishment. It sounds more like the name you would expect for a Chinese restaurant.
