I came here on a warm day and got a scoop of mint cookie custard. It wasn't very busy out (surprisingly), and I was served right away. It is a pretty standard ice cream/custard shop. When thinking about things I miss since moving away from the Rochester area, frozen custard from Abbott's is near the top of the list. We decided to stop at this Abbot's location when back in the area the other day. Cute building right on the canal. The star of the visit was naturally the frozen custard. It's served differently than most other frozen custard establishments which fill your cone directly from rhe machine, much like any soft serve ice cream. At Abbott's it's taken from the machine and put into big containers where it's then scooped, more like hard ice cream. This is my favorite Abbott's location! Right on the edge of the Erie Canal - there is plenty of seats for outdoor enjoyment. They have food to feed the ducks and the carp swim right under the docks. The ice cream is always amazing and there are also a lot of places nearby for food/drinks. Definitely stop here for ice cream! read more

If you like frozen custard Abbott's is truly the best. Abbott's first started in Rochester/Charlotte area on the end of Lake Avenue when everybody would go to the beach. More so it started long before my parents were born. Later on they had a second location across from the airport where people would order the custard and watch the planes take off. I believe the first location started in 1926, The second although I don't know I would guess in the late 50s. This specific location in Pittsford is somewhat new to me, but not the decadent flavor. Abbott's now has gone franchise, but, and I mean this strongly the flavor has not changed a bit. It is every bit as good as it was when I was a little child. They have added lots of new choices over the last 40 years but I almost always go Chocolate Almond Custard or Vanilla Custard or when I go crazy Half-and-Half. read more

My first time having custard and it was quite delicious. But it is very expensive given how much you get. My husband got a medium sized pier butter cup Sunday in the same size covers me which was a medium. However they gave him only one scoop of custard and so it was mostly toppings. I enjoyed a sweet and salty chocolate almond in a cone and ate it while soaking up the sun on the bench directly outside the shop. As I was savoring my cone, I was savoring the sights; boats were gliding by with a few waving passengers, a couple was walking down the path hand-in-hand, a mom with her two daughters were sitting in the grass enjoying their treats, a young couple preparing their kayaks to ride. Got IC with our teens after a hike at Powdermill Park down the road, on a gorgeous 60 degree Rochester, NY late May. The kids report that the ice cream was great but "a little too little." Y'know it really depends on where ya go for your ice cream to truly understand the whole "kiddie cone/small/medium/large" system! So, we ask the girls to stay in the car (respecting social distance norms) and asked, "whatcha want?" They all want chocolate (shocker) and size "medium." But it's not a sm/med/lg situation. It's a "how many scoops" deal. So we order "1 scoop" for each kid. This would turn out great for your 8 and under crowd. But our teens were not so pleased but they still enjoyed. Was spending some time on a friends' boat on the Erie Canal and they pointed out that Abbot's is a local specialty. We stopped and got off for a quick bite. This isn't ice cream and it's very clear- much creamier and sweeter. Personally this is not my kind of thing but it was a nice stop nonetheless. I had the mint with oreo cookies and raspberry; it was nice they let you split flavors in even a small size. Both were way too sweet for me; I wished there was more mintiness in the former and more tartness in the latter. I also tried the salted caramel (not salty enough) and rainbow sherbet (pretty good). They have some sugar free and low fat options also. Overall, 3 stars for the custard plus an extra one because the location is awesome. read more

I just came from this place. Its tiny inside (no place to eat) but lots of tables outside by the water. I picked up a small waffle cone, about $4.50, with half vanilla and half chocolate almond, the latter was delicious with real almond pieces. The only thing was that the custard wasn't cold enough and dripped super fast, even when it wasn't that cold out--so fast I was so busy with it dripping I forgot to take a photo! But your sizes of ice cream have dramatically changed; the price has not. You have a great location on the canal. I've lived in Roc for 6 years. When I came here, tried Abbott's and hated it's flavorless mush. I'm moving cross country this summer so I thought I would try it again before leaving for good. Still crap. The 15 year old employee gave me more whipped cream than custard. The strawberry shortcake came with a beyond stale, sad excuse for pound cake, gross strawberry compost from a can (in June when they are fresh and delicious) and I couldn't even taste the vanilla soft serve. So worthless. I'd much rather go to one of the MUCH better spots for ice cream Rochester has. This is a place a waste of great real estate on the water. STOP THE ABBOTT'S OBSESSION! read more

Abbott's is just fantastic. I mean, it's a Rochester fav and there's really nothing else like it. I so look forward to the summertime when we can get Abbott's on the canal in Bushnell's Basin (our go-to location) or up near the lake in Charlotte. The Charlotte location can be swamped with people, but they quickly serve up good custard as long as they don't sell out of your flavor. We also visit the Mt Hope & Park Ave locations, but the ambiance of those isn't as good. Park Ave is also super busy, but unlike Charlotte, the service has been really pretty bad and slow each time we have been to that site. My personal favorite is the chocolate almond: sweet and salty! So good!!! I sometimes get it in a freshly made chocolate-coated waffle cone and sometimes get it with butterfinger topping in a dish. So yummy. My brother loved the vanilla almond, but they almost never have it =(. My husband loves their peanut butter milkshakes, which honestly I never noticed existed on their menu, but they are really really good. Probably twice a year I stop by in the "off-season" to get a taste of summer. It's irresistible. read more

Being from Rochester there is something about summer that calls for an Abbott's frozen custard. Some locations do it better than others though... I am giving the Bushnell's Basin location a 4/5 primarily for ambiance and customer service. Flavors are the same around The ROC... the usual Chocolate, Vanilla, Chocolate Almond... And then the fancy flavors of the day. Scoop sizes? Well, all the Abbott's seem to be cutting back. (this is where they lost a star).... But this location has the added bonus of The Erie Canal and prime people and boat watching... not to mention the added bonus of feeding the ducks (right out of your hand!). This is a great spot for kids or a fun little dessert date. We stopped here as a midway point with our kids on our family walk along the canal... it was a great treat and the kids loved it! read more
