    Dessert with a view.

Very small space (the old Lickety Splits location), made smaller by people not paying attention to the in and out doors. They serve Perry's and Turkey Hill flavors of hard ice cream as well as Ben & Jerry's non-dairy flavors straight from the pint. $15 for 3 ice creams seems a bit steep to me when the portions are not really that big. Service was slow and disorganized which seems typical for an establishment run by teenagers, but at least we got to chill on the canal while eating dessert...

First things first, Ice Cream Factory is not Lickety Splits. The latter has been gone for three years and is just a memory. Rochesterians may remember Cher's impromptu visit when she was in town for the never-ending farewell tour and insisted on taking a picture behind the counter with the kids working there. I would have loved to have been there that night, but I digress. Recently I was able to stop in at Ice Cream Factory and see just what's been changed with new ownership. Many things are still the same. This is a place where you go for hard ice cream and freakishly large portions. I had a small dish that day and there was so much ice cream I had no idea how to eat it all before it melted. There's still no indoor seating, unless you count the benches right outside under the awning or the picnic tables just a few feet away. My tip: as a salted caramel fan, you can't go wrong with that flavor. Ice Cream Factory is still a perfectly sizable shop on the canal, but seems to be devoid of any personality. The ice cream still tastes the same, but if you wanted your dish with a sense of ownership pride, this might not be the place for you. I'll still stop in here when I'm in the neighborhood and am craving straight up hard ice cream, but in the words of our fair Cher, "if I could turn back time..." I'd restore just a little personality to go with the tasty treats.

Nice location in Fairport with easy parking right in front of the location in "The Box Factory" building. We came in hoping to have a nice list of frozen yogurt and custard flavors that I saw in a picture - I was bummed when they didn't have that when we went. They do have many Perry's and Turkey Hill hard flavors. They have a creamy Van/Choc twist custard and multiple sundae options. I was a little concerned when I ordered - a staff wasn't aware of the Blackberry/Vanilla Fat free twist flavor. There was a large sign listing it on the freezer and it appeared there was only one other soft machine other than the Van/Choc twist custard. When she went to get my cone (of the soft yogurt) I watched it come out of the machine - pretty much liquid. She waited a minute, got a new cone and then tried to make another cone which was so soft, even soupy looking I wouldn't have been able to get it on a cone, so she offered me a dish. I was surprised that they would've been fine letting the product go out like that. At this point I ordered a safe option instead - 1/2 Oregon Blackberry Cheesecake which is Perry's - which was creamy and fantastic. The second half was Perry's Bittersweet Symphony which is coffee with bittersweet chocolate chunks, that I have had many times in the past but there's was gritty and had many ice chunks. I am not sure if it had melted some and refrozen or what the issue was there. Portions are huge with decent prices. Definetly don't need to order larger than a kiddie size. My husband and I got the same size yet mine was much larger which was odd. Location looked clean and staff was very friendly. Nice location if you live in the area, but wouldn't make a special trip for.

soft serve custard is creamier than Abbott's!

Once we confirmed a date and time, we notice communication was a huge issue with this caterer. It would take over a week to get a menu confirmation back and then with changes to the menu, another week etc. The same excuse every time, "too busy" or "running to an event". Eventually after a month of trying to get a menu together, the gentleman in charge gave us some attitude about us trying to confirm in a timely manner since the party was coming up. After all this, we decided not to move forward with them. Found a better caterer for the exact same menu and half the price. Update: see attached pictures, we were in communication and I definitely have the right company. Regardless, it was not an enjoyable experience.

All my appetizers came beautifully plated with hand written tags on each cheese item. The tray covers were wrapped with coordinated ribbon to go with the color scheme of the wedding. The flat bread veggie pizzas were to die for! Everything was spot on and delicious. Our guests really enjoyed everything. Kevin made sure that we had plenty of food to feed our small Covid wedding of 60 people. No one left hungry that's for sure! And there were no left overs sorry to say but is a good thing. Kevin's staff delivery was super friendly and the set up was a breeze considering how Hot it was outside 85 ! Kevin made sure that he had cold bags for the food with ice packs in each bag so all the foods were kept cold as we only served cold appetizers at the wedding. Kevin was Super to work with and extremely helpful in the choosing of what would work best for our daughters wedding. I am Highly recommending you choose Tasteful Events for your next gathering you will NOT be disappointed! Thank you Kevin for the Outstanding food and attention to detail in what you do. We will be using this caterer from now on !!!

Great Service, But a West Coast Palate Had Trouble Adjusting…read more My husband and I decided to try Rustic Taco Bar during Canal Days, hoping for a taste of our former home on the West Coast. First off, I want to give a huge shout-out to the staff. The service was truly great--super friendly and attentive, especially considering how busy it was during the festival. We really appreciated how welcoming they were. However, we found the food to be a bit of a culture shock for our palates. We understand there are regional differences, and for us, this was very different from the Mexican food we're used to. The tacos were served on flour tortillas that, since they weren't freshly made, could have really benefited from being heated or toasted on the grill to give them a better texture and taste. The biggest surprise for us was the filling. We've learned that "beef" on the East Coast often means ground beef, which was very odd for us in a taco, as we were expecting carne asada. It brought back memories of childhood taco nights rather than the street tacos we know and love. The salsa was just okay; for us, it was really missing that punch of salt and a fresh squeeze of lime juice that makes a salsa pop. Overall, the people were wonderful, but the food just didn't quite hit the mark for our West Coast tastes. If you're not used to SoCal-style Mexican food, you might enjoy this more than we did. For us, it was a reminder that we're a long way from San Diego!

The tacos here are unique with a garbage plate taco, steak frites taco among others. They don't skimp on the the size or fillings for the tacos which I guess warrants the higher price per taco. You shouldn't leave hungry which I love. Overall the food was good. I had the steak frites and whiskey barrel bbq taco. Both were very good and my wife had the rustic beer fry(fish) taco and mango marg taco. 2 downsides that pushed me from a 4 to a 3. We ordered the elote corn side dish. It came out as corn on the cob which is not practical for dining out given the amount of toppings. We managed to cut a bunch off and the flavor was great but a mess. The other was a takeout order that we were bringing home for our daughter. It was entirely incorrect and the items we got were about 1/2 the price of what we ordered. We didn't realize until we were home staring in the face of disappointment and refusal to eat what we delivered from our daughter. That said I would still go back, but lesson learned on the corn and takeout.

The welcome committee appears to consist of cleaning utensils casually staged on the stairs leading to upstairs seating--because nothing says "we're ready for guests" like a mop-and-bucket obstacle course greeting you at the door. Inside, the vibe is best described as "dimly lit and emotionally uninvested." Less atmosphere, more "we forgot this place was open today." Service takes the concept of "self-serve" to an artistic level. The bartender acknowledged us briefly--just long enough to confirm we existed--before immediately resuming whatever bar-related priorities were clearly more important than customers. Meanwhile, several people ahead of us were openly discussing their 10+ minute wait with no movement toward actually being served. After a while, it became clear we were not waiting for service so much as participating in a passive endurance experiment. Eventually, we chose the only winning move: leaving. Honestly, the most efficient part of the entire visit was the exit. I'm still not entirely sure how a place with this level of disorganization manages to stay open, but I do wish them luck--preferably while we're eating somewhere else.
