3 stars for convenience by the canal, plenty of parking, and friendly staff. I have to say, the rest of the experience lends itself lower on the "star ranking" in my opinion. The ice cream is average at best and expensive- especially when you receive 1/2 scoops instead of a whole scoop. Priced on the higher end and not exactly worth the price. They used to sell their duck food for 50 cents each (very small little bags by the register) and in two years time I guess inflation has made the shop need to charge $2 for each bag- a huge disappointment and rip off. Sad that they have to charge so much for ice cream and duck food- I'm guessing maybe they need to in order to stay open. read more

Service was ok. As I was giving my order the employee that was listening to me started another conversation with an employee & I had to repeat my order. For a small hand size bag of duck food it's $2.00. Their ice cream even though they just opened had ice crystals in it. The waffle cone taste like a dog biscuit. This place is so cute! The workers are all so nice and quick! They get you in and out so you can enjoy the ice cream without it dripping! I really like their selections! They even let me try an ice cream flavor I saw AFTER I got an ice cream. The smalls are just like having a big bowl at home! Perfect size for one or to share with a kid. I was also very happy with the pricing. It was fair and reasonable. I found the duck food at the end by the cash register really cute too! Cash and credit except too! Thank god! Very small space (the old Lickety Splits location), made smaller by people not paying attention to the in and out doors. They serve Perry's and Turkey Hill flavors of hard ice cream as well as Ben & Jerry's non-dairy flavors straight from the pint. $15 for 3 ice creams seems a bit steep to me when the portions are not really that big. The ice cream is OK. The location is perfect. What else do you need to know? I have been here many times and I've nothing bad to say about the ice cream. I am usually consuming it as I'm walking along the beautiful Fairport canal chatting with friends and family. So the ice cream is really not the focal point of it. It was good enough though. It's way better than Brewster's ice cream. That is like sucking on a cow's warm udder. So gross. We each got the kiddie size and that's all you need to get. It is monstrously huge. Ridiculously huge. Do not get anything bigger than the kiddie size, I repeat. I ordered the flavor called a piece of cake. It literally tasted like ice cream with chocolate cake chopped in it. I didn't think it was fantastic but I thought it was really good. Everyone else seemed to like their ice cream judging by the fact that they ate them with superspeed and were licking their lips repeatedly. The location is right next to the Fairport canal so you can just go for a lovely walk. They also have about 10 seats right outside of the ice cream location which is nice to just sit there and people watch. They have restrooms inside of the building. It's just a great place with ample parking. You can buy cracked corn for $.81 if you want to feed the birds. Such a nice touch to have that available to people. First things first, Ice Cream Factory is not Lickety Splits. The latter has been gone for three years and is just a memory. Rochesterians may remember Cher's impromptu visit when she was in town for the never-ending farewell tour and insisted on taking a picture behind the counter with the kids working there. I would have loved to have been there that night, but I digress. Recently I was able to stop in at Ice Cream Factory and see just what's been changed with new ownership. Many things are still the same. This is a place where you go for hard ice cream and freakishly large portions. I had a small dish that day and there was so much ice cream I had no idea how to eat it all before it melted. There's still no indoor seating, unless you count the benches right outside under the awning or the picnic tables just a few feet away. My tip: as a salted caramel fan, you can't go wrong with that flavor. Ice Cream Factory is still a perfectly sizable shop on the canal, but seems to be devoid of any personality. The ice cream still tastes the same, but if you wanted your dish with a sense of ownership pride, this might not be the place for you. I'll still stop in here when I'm in the neighborhood and am craving straight up hard ice cream, but in the words of our fair Cher, "if I could turn back time..." Nice location in Fairport with easy parking right in front of the location in "The Box Factory" building. We came in hoping to have a nice list of frozen yogurt and custard flavors that I saw in a picture - I was bummed when they didn't have that when we went. They do have many Perry's and Turkey Hill hard flavors. They have a creamy Van/Choc twist custard and multiple sundae options. I was a little concerned when I ordered - a staff wasn't aware of the Blackberry/Vanilla Fat free twist flavor. There was a large sign listing it on the freezer and it appeared there was only one other soft machine other than the Van/Choc twist custard. When she went to get my cone (of the soft yogurt) I watched it come out of the machine - pretty much liquid. She waited a minute, got a new cone and then tried to make another cone which was so soft, even soupy looking I wouldn't have been able to get it on a cone, so she offered me a dish. I was surprised that they would've been fine letting the product go out like that. At this point I ordered a safe option instead - 1/2 Oregon Blackberry Cheesecake which is Perry's - which was creamy and fantastic. The second half was Perry's Bittersweet Symphony which is coffee with bittersweet chocolate chunks, that I have had many times in the past but there's was gritty and had many ice chunks. I am not sure if it had melted some and refrozen or what the issue was there. Portions are huge with decent prices. Definetly don't need to order larger than a kiddie size. My husband and I got the same size yet mine was much larger which was odd. Location looked clean and staff was very friendly. I mean, I am always trying to find dips, and they are impossible to find in the Greater Rochester Area. Luckily I came across a Reddit post with a similar dilemma and this place came up. They only have chocolate dip but I am happy to have found it to say the least. I got a regular cone and when dipped it only went half way up the ice cream, so they gave me a side dish of extra dip so I could keep drizzling it over the ice cream. The location is definitely the highlight of this ice cream stop! Being right on the canal in Fairport, you can't beat taking a stroll or sitting out by the water while you enjoy the treat. The ice cream is mediocre, and I would definitely recommend trying some of the many hard ice cream flavors. They have a large variety of options to choose from! As for soft ice cream, they only have the typical vanilla, chocolate, and twist, with no additional specialty options. They do have options for toppings (of course). It is pretty small inside, without seating. Beautiful location, nice staff. They did not have much of what we wanted from their online menu, but the vanilla soft serve was good. The sprinkles are cheap and leave a film of wax on the top of your mouth. My friend got the Peanut Butter Cups and they were not Reese's and he ended up eating around them because they didn't taste much like chocolate or peanut butter. read more
