I was 9 years old when the first Star Wars movie came out. And of course, I loved it. The entire experience. Loved. It. As well as the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Loved them all. So I was quite excited, years later, when I learned that a new Star Wars movie was coming out. I just hoped that it would live up to my expectations. That it would be as good as the 3 originals. Yeah, you know what happened. Jar Jar Binks. Why do I bring up this delightful recounting of my history with Star Wars movies? Because I was seriously looking forward to my first visit to ABBQ? I love bbq. And I look forward to any new barbecue places in Jacksonville. So I wanted to love it. Sadly, it didn't quite live up to my expectations. Let's talk about the positives. The place is really nice. Big bar, wonderful outdoor space with a kids area. And the brisket. I did like the brisket. We got it sliced. You can also get it chopped. Which is what one of the serving guys was recommending. I'm really not sure why. If the brisket is awesome it should be sliced. You should be proud to serve it sliced. No questions asked. So why recommend the chopped? But it was good. Best brisket you'll ever have? Nope. Not by a long shot. But certainly not the worst. The coleslaw was good. A bit overdressed. Hey? A little lighter on the dressing won't kill you. Try it. Will make the coleslaw that much better! Ok, the not so good. The sauces. Not one of them is "Oh my god where has this bbq sauce been all my life!" They're ok to mediocre to just bad. Is it really that hard to develop a really tasty barbecue sauce? I don't think so. Seriously ABBQ guys? Work on the sauce. We also got a beef rib because we were there on Saturday. Look, I know that beef ribs aren't the easiest to make. It just wasn't that great. Specifically? Overdone. And for how much you have to pay for them? Definitely not worth it. Maybe the pork ribs are better. We wanted to try the sausage links but they were out. I guess that's a good sign. So the food was ok. And now the bad. The whole seating and ordering system. It's just dumb. Dumb. No other word for it. When the hostess has to spend five minutes explaining that you can only order the meat from the meat counter, but you can also order the sides from the meet counter or you can order them from a seat, but you can only order drinks from a seat and not the meat counter, or the bar, then you have created a poorly designed system. It's confusing and slows everything down. And at the meat counter? You had about 10 people working but only one taking orders? How does that happen? When the line stretches to the door I think there needs to be a bit more sense of urgency from the staff. Not an eye roll when one of the staff asks another to take my order. Which leads to the next problem. You order your meat at the meat counter, spend a LOT of money, and then have nowhere to sit down? Mainly because people are going and sitting while their friends and family are ordering at the very slow meat counter. It just doesn't work very well. And while I'm willing to put up with this kind of order get food and then go sit down system at a less expensive place, after spending $75 on bbq and then not have a place to sit? Forget it. It's not worth it. You guys really need to rethink the whole dining process. The very wise, very small, very green Yoda, told us, "Do. Or do not. There is no try." ABBQ. Be like Yoda. Fix the problems and make this a barbecue place I want to come back to. Don't continue to be Jar Jar Binks. read more

It is unfortunate to write this review since it could be due to staffing issues. Food came out at different times and almost every dish at the table had cold food on it. I was lucky I ordered the burger and it was perfection the bacon onion jam was delicious. I'm not a girl who writes Yelp Reviews. In fact this may very well be my first. I'm not sure where to start. Staff not friendly or engaging. Talking among themselves while we struggled to understand where to order or sit. Weird odor that smelled like chemicals, If you order meat go to the counter, sandwiches go sit down. What? We were not sure what was happening so we ordered take out. I mean how bad could it be if we just take our food home? I don't have words to explain the confusion in ordering ribs. I left with 3ribs, a spoonful of coleslaw, a spoonful of Mac n cheese see pix for $27 plus tax ( see photos ) Next time I'll choose a trusted local like Bono's, Mojo's or Woody's. If I need BBQ with flair I'll head to Palm Valley Smoke which is really amazing with the view and top notch staff. Do yourself a huge favor and skip the ABBQ! read more

Party of 5 - we had a great meal. Brisket, Pulled pork, turkey all good selections. Pimento cheese appetizer was excellent. Interesting sandwich toppings, a variety of tasty sauces, and a great potato casserole side added to our experience. Very friendly and attentive server Indoor and outdoor seating. Great new addition to the beaches. I save my meat intake for a special occasion and man was it a great decision. We tried a little of everything. The Mac and cheese was delicious, brisket was out of this world, and I loved the fact the slaw was a vinegar base. The vibe is open and the back deck is really cool. It felt as if I was back in Austin or California. As a foodie I highly recommend The only request to owners is having a few more vegetable options like a veggie plate but I'm sure I'm of the minority here. Still 5 stars all day! I had the beef brisket, baked beans and fries. My friend had the brisket hash (we were there during brunch time). We also had the hummus, which was amazing but I forgot to take a picture. The service was excellent, very friendly and helpful staff. Atmosphere was great, we sat at the bar and there was a nice breeze. The food is good, the atmosphere is great we left happy. Drinks are strict. No local pours here and we did leave a little hungry. Pulled pork looked like it was portioned with an ice cream scoop. Love this place, my second time back. The hostess was friendly and welcoming. It is hard to find parking but they have valet - we were lucky enough to find a spot this time. We came around 5:30 on a weeknight, we were seated immediately and waited on right away. We ordered pork rinds for the appetizer and it came out quickly, they were great. We ordered our food and it came out piping hot and fast. Everything was amazing. The portions were huge! We actually shared this with four people. Our waitress brought sharing plates and it was the perfect amount. The Mac and cheese and potatoes are to die for. All the meats were cooked and seasoned so well we barely even used any sauce. The cowboy beans were barely ok. The brisket was pretty good and the pork ribs really reminded me of Franklin's in Austin, Tx. The beef rib had the potential to be pretty good but it was somewhat dry and my goodness, the bark was so dry it crackled. You could squeeze it and it would literally crack. For a 30 something dollars, I don't expect my meat to be dry. Enjoyed 3 of the 4 sauces they have. Wasn't a fan of the one that tasted like it had molasses in it. But enjoyed the mustard based one, their take on the Alabama white sauce one, and especially the tomato based vinegar one. Have been waiting months for this place to open! Wife & I were the 1st customers pretty stoked! But will say the meat is the star of the show. We got a platter of all the meats. My wife's fav was the ribs. Juicy & tender. My fav was of all things the turkey!! All the meats were so juicy & I am usually a sauce fanatic. Barely used any sauces Their sides were very good. The only thing I did not like was there were no greens. No collards or green beans. For a BBQ place I feel greens are needed. The coleslaw had no mayo & was the best cole slaw I ever had! Pickles onions & pickles off the charts Little different than most places on ordering. You do line order for most foods The wait was worth it. I am confident this place will do very well. I moved to the Beaches a year ago from Wisconsin via DC. With every move I make I have to find my go to eateries either by visiting or ordering out through GrubHub. I had BBQs from Bono's, The Bearded Pig and other such joint which did nothing to sate my palette. Then I discovered ABBQ and that was it. I eat in or order out once a month and never been disappointed with the succulent smoked flavor of the brisket, turkey or ribs. We go in the greeter has to go check outside for open tables but on the way back gets a phonecall ands spends 5min on it until she walks us over to the door and is like sit anywhere you want. The waiter was great. We ordered a texas trinity and balbacoa chicken. The wife and I split it up. I had to listen to her complain the rib didn't have any meat on it. The macaroni was bad it was dried up. I guess the beans were ok for what they are but when a fat guy that loves food doesn't like neither of your beans that should tell you something. Brought 11 of our friends to try our neighborhood place. Each and everyone of us had a great dish! Considering it is only open for 10 or so days -there wasn't a misstep. The manager Brian (from another tavern) was welcoming; the hostess was so gracious; the server Shelby got everything right; one of the owners Henry came to greet us. Though it was crowded at peak hour- there were no issues hearing each other. Saw lots of familiar faces from the neighborhood. I think they really nailed this one. Absolutely a delight! The parking was rather challenging though there was valet. It's a couple of feet from downtown AB, which is even better to avoid more traffic. Meat under cooked for brisket for my personal taste but a nice portion and presemted well but only had three bites it was way too.seasoned it overpowered the natural flavor. Sadly side dishes not normal restaurant quality, and looked and tasted overly processed and far too salty, took home most of it to my pit bull. Dessert ordered was Banana Bread Pudding and it took 25 min to get to.table, expected a nice size or quality for $9 but it was the size of a tiny cupcake on top of a few teaspoons of pudding. I literally thought they ran out and was giving me a two bite sample to try for future reference. I was too embarrassed to give it to the neighbor who i was goimg to surprise since she had also not yet been to the restaurant (it was my first visit). Howevrr, it was the Server who was the star of the evening, she was SO amazing, funny, and engaging. She put up with my friend's relentless Dad jokes and was incredibly attentive, it made for a much nicer visit. I'd try happy hour for drinks and restaurant is very large with big outdoor patio nice for groups and kids or on a summer day. This is my first visit to ABBQ. It was around 6:30pm and it wasn't busy. I was excited to try their bbq being that I haven't had bbq in a while. When I walked into the front of the house I saw plenty of seating. No COVID-19 procedures nor signs were posted in place so I thought we were going to be able to get a seat right away. There was only two of us. But the lady in the front told us to wait for 15 min. And come back to check-in to see if there will be any available seating because they are not doing any reservation of any kind. I noticed that everybody else that walked-in right after us (with bigger parties) got seated right away. Meanwhile, I was told to wait outside for 15 min just to check back in and hope that there will be a table available. We finally got the female at the front house's attention. And she was ready to entertain us. I asked about any booths, and she said she was saving those for any larger parties that may arrive. I told her that It's ok, I understand. She seated us at a smaller booth by the bar that had not been cleaned. I felt as she was being very racist. She made anyone who wasn't white feel very unwelcome, and did her best to get rid of us. Totally unimpressed. The "lean" brisket was fatty, we saw drinks being served in dirty glasses, the collards were not very good and the cowboy beans tasted like Heinz baked beans. The restaurant and bathroom were not clean and the bathroom had no paper towels. Even the check was presented in a greasy unclean jacket. Their bbq sauces are fair. I can say with some conviction that Strings, Valley Smoke, Mojo's, Bearded Pig, and Woodpeckers are all far superior. This place looks cool from the outside and is disappointing inside. Recently moved from 5-points to San Pablo so we're only 10 mins to the beach! Last week we were at the beach & decided to order some To-go lunch on the way home. It was 12:30 on Tues & Food was ready upon arrival ... the place was nearly empty (not a good sign for the business). Waitress was friendly & helped me check-out (TIP your waitresses EVEN for TAKE-OUT!). She offered several of their sauces & we took some of each to sample! They were all tasty ... will definitely try these on other meats from ABBQ. Wife got a Salad + Salmon & I got the turkey sandwich .... food was ok. Fries were fresh-cut & nice sized order but soggy. Probably didn't travel well but they looked good! Wife said the salad was just ok. The Turkey sandwich had bacon on it - yum! Turkey was tasty but overall wasn't blown away by the food. Lots of options & was used to The Bearded Pig in San Marco ... coming to JAX Beach soon! We'll give ABBQ another try. read more

We ordered pimento cheese for an appetizer and it was awesome. So cheesy & paired with the tomato jam.... perfection. As for entrees, I ordered the 1513 sandwich which was HUGE, but so tasty. I went here with a group to watch football and the atmosphere was wonderful. The outdoor turf area was perfect for hanging out and the number of tvs made it convenient to watch the game. The menu was fun and the cocktail menu was impressive for a barbecue restaurant. I ordered the Tex Mex Mule and we ordered wings and an entree. They also had a variety of jell-o shots which was pretty unique. The food was pretty good, I would recommend the brussel sprouts as a side. Side of Mac n cheese the creamiest. Greens had nice kick yo them. Brussels were awesome too. Our server Daniel was super cool, very attentive to our needs with a 2 yer old in tow. This BBQ place has been on my list for awhile and finally had a chance to check it out over the weekend. I planned my visit for Saturday because I wanted to try their Beef Rib and they only serve it on Saturday. It was phenomenal. Great flavor, perfect smoke ring and park, and fall apart juicy meat. I had the Brussel Sprouts and Potato Casserole as the side. Veggies were crispy and succulent, the Sriracha glaze was fantastic.
