This place continues to amaze. Looking for some comfort BBQ, I tried ABBQ for probably the 12th time. Walked in at 7:40 (they close at 10) to get take out. The host tells me they don't have turkey, pulled pork, ribs or brisket. Why the hell are the doors open? I'm amazed that the place thrives and even remains open. AB Barbecue never disappoints. Their brisket, pork and fries are outstanding. The slaw however was a bit too spicy for us.

Pretty good. The ribs are above average. Well at least for Jacksonville they are.... They were tender. Not fall off the bone tender, but sufficiently tender I guess. Mission BBQ is still better. I think I read another review that said these were fatty? I'm gonna have to disagree; these seem pretty normal to me on that front. I do like the mustardy BBQ sauce, but that's low hanging fruit to make me happy. And I got the collard greens, which were normal. I drank a mezcal old fashioned, which was tasty. read more

happy hour time is a lie.... on their website AND on the menu at the restaurant it says happy hour is until 6:30 PM which is why we picked this restaurant because we knew we could make it there by then, only to be refused happy hour prices at 6:15 pm because the menu is a " misprint" although it also says 6:30 pm on the webite as well... and the server wasnt nice about it either. So, this might not be a fair review as we own a sauce company, and have a Pitmaster as a business partner...... but.... We had a variety of items and the beef brisket, the mac & cheese and smoked wings were definitely worth coming for. The rest of it you would skip next time. The building is beautiful the service was great. We really didn't have to wait but we're kind of in an off-season right now. I can see this being a great place to come, watch the game or meet with a group of friends! The sauces were OK. We couldn't eat the beans. The pulled pork NEEDED a sauce and none at the table really was adequate. A good pulled pork shouldn't even need a sauce. I've been here a few times now, and, overall, the experiences have been pretty good. The food is good but, unfortunately, the service is a little slow and lacking. The first time we ate here was towards the end of the night, the server knew a lot about the menu and was very helpful with our food order but it seemed that the server had forgotten our drinks because we didn't get them until almost the end of our meal. The second time we ate here, the server seemed more worried about her side work and closing up the outside area than her tables. It took a really long time to put in any orders since she wasn't really present. We were going to put in a second round of drink orders but decided not to since our dining experience was already an hour in and we had finished our appetizers and still hadn't received our entrees. The third time we ate here, the server was pretty attentive and nice but he up charged us for ordering sweet potato fries with the beef rib and I wish he would have said something because it didn't seem that way with the menu was worded. (But I also get it... it seems to be a shady practice that more and more restaurants will up charge for things without being up front about it.) The FOOD! Everyone I know raves about their burnt ends appetizer but I find them a little too charred and peppery for my liking. I prefer their smoked wings. They're a decent size and has great smoky flavor. For an entree, I like to share a platter just so I can get a little bit of everything. I love that they give you the option of lean or less lean meat when ordering the brisket. The ribs are okay but not my favorite. The pulled pork is great and the sandwich looks good too but I've only tried it on the platter. The beef rib wasn't great but that might have been because I got the one on the end. (The beef rib was completely charred and inedible on the one side. It was so burnt that it super tough and hard to the touch. I didn't anything anything because it was so big I don't think I needed all of it. *shrugs*) The sides are pretty typical BBQ sides. The mac and cheese is good but if you order it make sure you eat it first because it solidifies as it cools. The brussel sprouts are addicting! (The first time we had them, I really like them. The second time we had them, they were a little too charred. We'll had to see how the third time goes.) Their baked cowboy beans are a flavorful saucy mixture of beans but they are a little on the soupy side for me. There's plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, and they are very family friendly with activities for the children outdoors. The restaurant can get pretty loud so a lot of people opt for outdoor seating. Oh, I forgot... I also hate that they do that thing with the bill where it's not itemized when you are looking at the little screen they hand you to pay... you only see the itemized copy after you pay which isn't very customer friendly. Overall, it's definitely worth trying at least once because of the food and I'll probably try ordering to-go next time and see what happens. read more

This is one of our favorite spots in AB! Probably the most kid friendly restaurant in the beaches. They have a large turf grass area that is fenced in, perfect for the kids to run around. I paid the bill with a credit card (they hand you the machine then take it back when you're done). I was leaving a cash tip so I put $0 on the machine. He walked away and came back a moment later and said, you realize you left me no tip? I said yes, bc I have cash here I was leaving. It was awkward and rude on his behalf. We don't frequent the beaches area since it's a 35- 40 minute drive for us, but we do love Texas BBQ - so we had to check out ABBQ since they claim to be authentic purveyors of Texas BBQ. They do have smokers that are the same design that we see in Texas, and they use Oak wood. Drinks were good - they have a wide selection of beer and cocktails. Wife had the Aardwolf pale ale, I had an Old Fashioned. We wanted to try as many smoked meats as we could, so we ordered the combination that included 3 meats and 3 sides. We got brisket, pulled pork, and the in-house made sausage along with mac&cheese, cole slaw, and the creamy potato casserole. The pulled pork and sausage were excellent, as were the accompanying sauces. The prime brisket was good, but not quite up to Texas standards (we visit Austin BBQ joints in Texas so we have something to compare). Mac and potato casseroles were very tasty, the cole slaw could stand some work - it's vinegar based but very bland and the cabbage is not crisp. Service was very good and pretty responsive on a busy Thursday night with live music. This is pretty close to authentic Texas BBQ - probably the best you can get in Florida. read more

I stopped in yesterday around 4pm for some comfort food- it was much needed after yesterday. I actually had their takeout last week when John brought home BBQ! Apparently brisket comes in several ways! Chopped, moist or lean~ John went with moist and said it was very flavorful! He also ordered a 2 meat platter with that brisket and got ribs and ordered a second meal of pulled pork. Except when he got home- it was brisket and ribs, ribs and more ribs! No pulled pork! I had their mac last week and it was so thick, creamy, rich- I joked it's the kind of mac-n-cheese that stays with you for a week at least! I was curious if it was that thick because it was the end of the day- well, nope! It is always that rib-sticking think and absolutely delicious, with bread crumbs topped too! The pulled pork was delicious too- I always try the first bite without sauce. I want to know just how good it is before adding a sauce- this was damn good bbq. I only ate 2 bites of the mac and 3 bites of the pork and threw everything in a togo box. Because I was there at an off time- the dining area was empty, just a couple guys at the bar and I think one table occupied in the "yard". This meant my server Kelsey took every opportunity to chat with me and check on everything- we talked about her favorites on the menu (she will eat that baked potato for dinner!) and she told me about the desserts- I am intrigued! I like the outdoor space, this would be a fun spot on a sunny day. Lots of things seemed to $1-2 more than other BBQ places for about the same item. Rephrasing their statement, "ABBQ would be hard to miss because of a head-turning, brightly colored cow mural dominating the exterior wall which faces Atlantic Boulevard." I had been daydreaming about dining at ABBQ ever since they opened in 2019. There I was, a year later, dining at ABBQ with the perfect group of friends - a photographer and a world traveler. It was not a coincidence; however, what was a coincidence was the foto [(food - od) + to] session right before we stuffed our face. MANA, the photographer, ordered ABBQ's Half Barbacoa Chicken with two sides: potato salad and mac and cheese. MAU, the world traveler, ordered their Smoked Turkey Sandwich with a side of collard greens. I had my eyes on the Smoked Turkey Sandwich but also wanted to try one of ABBQ's dry aged burgers with a side of fries and a classic Caesar salad. I settled for a 20/50 swap of my burger for half of MAU's Smoked Turkey Sandwich. I do not know why it took me so long to enjoy this dining experience -- I did. To stay within the social distancing guidelines, we chose to dine outside in their vibrant, backyard-styled dining area. Our server, Blake or Brandon, was such a rockstar. Decided to give ABBQ another try. I went when it first opened quite a while ago and honestly wasn't impressed. It was a weird order at the counter set up and the food... well, no need to go into that because after the change in ownership (among other things) I'm here raving about it and giving it an easy 5 stars. Great food, great bartenders, spacious outdoor area, live music. And now they offer brunch! Let me tell you the brunch menu is on point. Yum is an understatement. The brisket biscuit is incredible. Tons of meat, a perfectly cooked egg, and cheddar all on a fresh baked biscuit. The biscuits and gravy are topped with perfectly poached eggs and some kick ass sausage gravy. The avocado toast was good but I'd prefer a higher avocado to feta ratio and more chili oil. But they do it right with the radishes and charred baguette. Perfectly cooked eggs get me as excited as perfectly cooked steak and every single egg was cooked to perfection (which seems to be rare these days). The brisket hash looked delish but was eaten before I was able to steal a bite. My one brunch request would be a bottomless mimosa deal or something similar. On a Saturday afternoon @ 5:00 my wife and I decided to try ABBQ for the first time. Typically for us when we want bbq we head to Mojo's . We both grew up here & love bbq. Having grown up in the 50's & 60's bbq restaurants were aplenty with Bono's, Sonny's, Cotton's etc . In recent years I don't think the old staples are as good as they once were, so we like to try something new. Mojo's really knows how to cook Brisket, like they do in Texas using the off set slow smoked method. So we were hot to try this place out. The place was packed ( which is a good sign to me) , so we told the hostesses we would sit outside. Upon going outside the place was a Zoo, kids running all over the place with no supervised adults taking control. We found a picnic table to sit down & the waitress did come over to take our order. My wife asked the gal if this was unusually busy & she replied that this was actually a calm night. Well my wife of 51 years looks at me & says I don't know about you but I am over this place! The brisket looked great! We both love children, having raised 2 great kids & grandkids but when we took ours out they were taught to respect others. Now I don't know about you folks but when I go out to dine I like to enjoy my meal & relax, not go to a zoo atmosphere! I don't know if I will try this place again, but when I asked the waitress if during the week it would be a better option, & when her reply was on a Saturday night it was pretty calm I don't think this is my kind of place! The food was overall okay, but several items lacked flavor. Despite the brisket being very moist and flavorful, the pulled pork and sausage were mediocre. The sweet baked beans and green beans were nothing like a traditional bbq sweet baked bean or green bean dish. The green beans lacked flavor and the sweet baked beans just did not taste good. The side of sweet barbecue sauce also had zero flavor. The service aspect of my visit left a very bad taste in my mouth. I paid roughly 40$ of takeout and after the cashier took my card and processed the transaction, I asked why my bill on the signing screen was about 8$ more than what it was on my total. She said there was an automatic gratuity applied. I generally tip well and generally tip over 20%, but am offended that I wasn't informed of this before my payment had processed. ABBQ in Atlantic Beach was a Grand Slam Home Run for lunch today. Determined to spoil myself and take advantage of my day off I crossed the ditch and headed to this local smokehouse based on recommendations from friends. I knew I was going to overdo it, but I planned to take home plenty of leftovers. I arrived around 2 PM and there was plenty of parking alongside the restaurant. And more available in the back. From the parking lot you can see their open seating in the back picnic style with plenty of covered space and access to the bar as well as several large flatscreen televisions. The music must've been on the Bonnie Blue station as it was playing some great classical Southern rock as well as some contemporary hits like Nathaniel Ratliff the Black Crowes and Jack Johnson...all great acts in my opinion Dylan (General Manager) greeted me at the door and I asked to sit outside close to the sun and the shade as I was not sure if it would be too chilly. Unfortunately when the wind picked up I found it a little too cold so I asked to move inside. My server Emily greeted me promptly with a caddy full of sauces and a menu. She was very pleasant and seemed very happy to be at work which I think is a huge plus when dining out. She sat down and explained in detail each of the four special sauces in the Caddy and listened to what I was interested in the menu and made additional recommendations all of which turned out to be huge hits. I asked if she could spin me up a bloody Mary and she said sure no problem which was handled by Bradley the bartender. Bradley was a handsome bearded fellow who, it turns out, is a guitarist and plays with a local act called Bonnie Blue who is friends with the friends that recommended I try this restaurant. I skipped the appetizer because I wanted to try some of their main course dishes so I selected two entrées: The first was the "THE 1513" sandwich...sliced brisket, pulled pork, homemade sausage, coleslaw, pickles, tangy BBQ sauce and special seasoned fries. It was 100% delicious and a complete mouthful of flavor. Perfect just the way they make it! Second entree was the 3 Meat Plate which includes two sides. I selected pulled pork, smoked turkey breast and homemade cheddar jalapeño house sausage. Caleb says you can't go two starches for sides so I picked potato casserole and brussel sprouts. Emily even brought me a sample of their collard greens (which were delicious). I am telling you every bite was hot and flavorful and fantastic and I was licking my fingers like I hadn't eaten in days. After a few bites of everything I slammed on the breaks and ordered dessert. Emily recommended the Bread Pudding which sounded like exactly what I was looking for. Super sweet with a cream sauce and dessert heaven I tell you. Run!
