Came here mainly because we wanted some solid seafood, but still wanted one juicy steak too. Abe & Louie's came through on both. First off, our server Sahin was one cool braddah. Soon as he found out we came all the way from Hawaii, he made us feel right at home. Real good energy, super welcoming, and took care of us the whole night. The adults started with a couple Manhattans, and da buggahs had mana . Exactly how a Manhattan supposed to be. For appetizers, we went with the full Abe's Seafood Tower and the Caesar salad. I highly recommend both. My daughter and son went all in, and the homemade croutons made that Caesar salad pop. We liked the oysters so much, we ended up ordering another dozen. Sahin told us the Duxbury oysters (I think that's the ones we had) are local to the Boston region and are farmed in the upper water column above the oyster bed, which keeps them in the current and gives them that clean, briny taste. Mean, supah ono! For the main, we shared the 22 oz bone in ribeye and lobster tail. Steak was cooked proper, juicy, flavorful, just how it should be. Sahin even offered to have the steak sliced up for us, which was a nice touch. For sides, we had the au gratin potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Both were super tasty, and the Brussels sprouts had that perfect char. Ended the meal with da cookie dessert which had homemade whipped cream. Overall, real good experience. Great food, great drinks, and service that made us feel comfortable from the jump. If you staying in Boston and like seafood and steak, this spot is worth checking out. 3.5 Stars - I am really teetering between 3 and 4. This is a high end steakhouse located near Newbury Street in Boston. We had a business dinner here. I'm also biased because I am not the biggest steak fan. The price point is very high, obviously. The interior is gorgeous and classy. We ordered a ton of drinks, apps, and entrees. The house bread and butter in the beginning is so good! Apps: -Oysters ($4 each) -Shrimp Cocktail (GIANT shrimps!) - $28 - Truffle Tuna Tartare - $28 -Lobster Dumplings - $27 We split the wagyu strip ($115). It was fine. The sides were all good though - SUPER rich and huge portions. I'm too lazy to list them all but the standout was the crispy hash browns. The Millionaire potato was good too but not worth the price IMO ($89 for a potato with creme fraiche and caviar). My entree, the special Surf & Turf Salad ($48) was honestly really gross, the lobster was mealy and inedible - spoiled. Luckily we ordered enough things so I didn't need to eat it but if I had ordered just that, I would have been disappointed. If this wasn't so bad this place would have been 4 stars. The best part were the desserts they brought at the end with copious amounts of vanilla bean ice cream. I'd come here just for those desserts - omg, don't skip them! The Bread Pudding and Key Lime Pie are both insane. Again, we really enjoyed our experience but if I had to pay my own money I definitely feel like it's not that worth it (hence the 3 stars). I was visiting Boston with my partner and his parents and I was very excited to celebrate my birthday at Abe & Louie's. Since it was Memorial weekend, a lot of our reservations had to be made in advance. I even went as far as not celebrating on my actual birthday so that I could celebrate here. Our server Chris was amazing from start to finish. He was funny, polite and so nice. He told me Happy Birthday a few times throughout our meal which I found so sweet. He really made our dinner memorable. I would come back for dinner just for him! The cocktails and food were amazing as well. I lowered my rating because of a different server. He jumped in to "help" Chris by taking our dinner order. As soon as we finished telling him our order he rudely blurted "That's it?" He looked as if we had just insulted his mother. We awkwardly asked if it was too little. He responded to us like we were children. We explained to him that we had a large breakfast and lunch, trying all the good food in Boston and that we may order more if necessary. We just didn't want to over order and have leftovers that we would have to throw away since we were leaving the next morning. He still stood there waiting and said we should at least order another appetizer or side. At this point, my mood shifted and I stopped myself from further explaining that my partner's tiny mom is a diabetic/light eater and his dad's appetite has decreased into his senior years. Why do I have to explain that to him? He eventually said that we dont have to. Wtf? Why even waste our time and ruin our mood. What if one day he has a family come in for dinner that may have been saving up to celebrate such an occasion? His attitude totally shifted the entire course of dinner. Mind you my boyfriend even persuaded his parents to order a cocktail and wine, instead of their usual hot water and lemon because we are aware that we are at a nice restaurant. Okay I've been hearing that this is one of if not the best steak house in Boston. So when I went in a did have high expectations. The service is good, friendly, but nothing more. The drinks were basic and they used crushed ice which is a huge turnoff. Of course I ordered the steak and my only comment is that they do an amazing job at cooking the steak, seasoning wise it's lacking. My second Dine Out Boston 2026 Winter visit: Abe & Louie's, named "Best Neighborhood Restaurant, Back Bay" in "Best of Boston 2025". Founded in 1965. Table Bread: I especially loved the cranberry and walnut bread, which was on the plate. The delicate sweetness of the dried cranberries was deeply infused into the bread, while the walnuts provided a nutty aroma and crunchy texture. The butter was not too salty, offering a smooth texture and rich milky flavor, perfectly complementing the bread's sweetness. The rustic bread was equally excellent, with a firm crust and a soft interior; its rustic texture was quite comforting. Mushroom Soup: Thick and creamy, smooth and delicate in texture. The umami and earthy aroma of the mushrooms and the creaminess of the butter were mellow, soothing, gentle and rich. The saltiness was just right, with a subtle hint of sherry in the aftertaste, understated yet delightful. The black pepper ground on the table removed any fishy smell, added aroma, and cut through the richness. The brioche, after being toasted and soaked, became crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, adding an interesting texture. The chives were barely noticeable, which suited my personal taste. However, the portion was a bit too much, and it became somewhat monotonous towards the end. It would have been better if it was halved and supplemented with another appetizer lol. Flatiron Steak: A near-perfect steak, with a perfectly pink cross-section indicating medium. The meat was tender and juicy. The Chimichurri sauce, originating from Argentina, is made with parsley, cilantro, garlic, pepper flake, olive oil, and lemon juice, according to the waiter. The initial taste was surprisingly comforting, reminiscent of a combination of Cantonese ginger-spring onion sauce, and Szechuan chili oil. The lemon's acidity and freshness then emerged, somewhat alleviating the richness. However, it still felt a bit greasy towards the end, considering the sauce's base is a lethal amount of olive oil. This was one of me and my boyfriend's little yearly splurges at a steakhouse. Since it was a splurge, we ordered quite a bit and still ended up with plenty of leftovers. My boyfriend ordered the potato leek soup and the salmon. He thought the salmon was just average and said he'd probably try something else if we went back. He enjoyed a zero proof lavender drink. I ordered the French onion soup and the pan-roasted chicken, and both were impressive. I'm not usually someone who finishes an entire bowl of soup, but once it cooled down, I ate every last bite. The cheese and flavor were amazing. The chicken came with a really tasty sauce and the best crispy potatoes. I had to keep my boyfriend from stealing them. I wasn't sure what to drink and didn't see sangria on the menu but the waiter said they could make one and it was delicious. Even though our stomachs were full, we ordered the cheesecake to go, and it was hands down the freshest, creamiest cheesecake I've ever had, topped with fresh berries. Service was impeccable and we were able to get our food in a timely matter. Beef tartare (5/5)- the beef was fresh and the sauce evenly mended everything together. It was the perfect balance on meaty, creamy and slightly acidic. Creamed spinach (4/5)- spinach was cooked perfectly and was seasoned well. Bone in ribeye (4/5)- I ordered it medium well and it was exactly as I ordered it. The ribeye itself was beefy and delicious but definitely not the best I've had. My wife and I took our daughter during Parents' weekend. We had an early reservation before the hockey game that evening. We were seated promptly in the main dining room. We had a large and spacious booth and table. One waitstaff member came over and brought us water, bread, and butter. Our actual server came over, introduced themselves, and we ordered drinks and appetizers to start. My gin martini was made exactly as I asked, 3:1 with a couple of dashes of orange bitters. My wife's old-fashioned was perfect. We started with Oysters Rockefeller and the tuna tartare. The oysters were fabulous. The tuna tartare was also very good, but we were not a fan of the roe on top. We split a Caesar salad before ordering entrees. My wife and daughter split the 12-ounce fillet. I, in true Yelp style, ordered the 3-pound baked stuffed lobster. This is actually one of my favorite meals, and one that I don't have very often. It was served in a "lazy man" style, where the meat from the claws was out and part of the scallop and crab stuffing. All you do is eat!! Our sides were creamed spinach and hash browns. We summarized that it was one of the best meals we have had. The filet was prepared to order, perfectly medium rare, and very flavorful. The sides were excellent. The hash browns that our server recommended were unbelievable. Needless to say, my lobster was FABULOUS and worth the cost of admission. My daughter wanted to try the chocolate cake and the chantilly cream for dessert. Most of it was taken to go...LOL. My friend and I visited here in March 2024 for lunch and the initial intention was to order items from the restaurant week menu, but for some reason we weren't able to do so. We ended up ordering from the regular lunch and brunch menus, and our experience at the restaurant was still very good. The free bread with butter was very tasty, especially the type with darker colors, which I believe was rye bread. We ordered two types of cocktails, one called Poppin' Bottles and one called My Cherry Amour, and both of them had fruity flavors. They were mixed very well and my friend and I enjoyed the start of our experience very much as a result of the bread and drinks. I ordered the shaved beef hash and I thought the portion size relative to the price was very worth it because I was given a good amount of beef, potatoes, poached eggs, and muffin bread, all of which were filling enough for me to become full after the dish. My friend ordered the lobster club and in general had positive feedback about it without a reaction indicating that it was spectacular. Both the sandwiches and the tuna tartare were on the pricier end. Finally we had the vanilla crème brûlée, and since I cook this dessert at home, I thought it was okay because the vanilla flavor was only minimally infused into the mixture. Regardless, it was a good experience and I felt honored that I had the chance to visit a fancy restaurant like this in Boston. When my oldest daughter attended college in Boston, we dined here every time we visited her. It was her favorite restaurant. She's since graduated and now her sister just started college in Boston. During college move-in weekend, we came here in keeping with our tradition. This time however, the food was disappointing. My daughter (the current college student) ordered the filet mignon, cooked medium. When I noticed she only ate half of her steak, she told me it tasted dry. I had dinner at A&L last night before the fireworks. Having spent 30 years in Back Bay in business, I have been to A&L many times for both lunch and dinner. My Rib Eye was perfect - flavor, seasoning and correclty cooked at MR. My wife had the Halibut special with clams. Halibut was fine but it was clear A&L ran out of countnecks because they served boiled quohogs that were chewy and tough, with the dish. The tomato sauce served with the dish was not well thought out and very thick - overall disappointed. Unacceptable A&L do better. I've had had wonderful meals here for years please don't let us down again. The ambiance was as expected, nice but the tables for 2 are ridiculously small and uncomfortable. Classic Boston steakhouse. All the high-end cuts of meat you could want in an atmosphere that screams "old money" with dark wood, leather seating and beautiful giant crystal chandeliers everywhere... My husband and I came here on a double date with friends. We started with the lobster dumplings, oysters rockefeller and shrimp cocktail. The dumplings and oysters were phenomenal; I could have eaten 100 of them!! The shrimp were also excellent and some the biggest ones I've ever seen! For our entree, my husband and I split the "tomahawk for two" steak. We shared the whipped potatoes and brussels sprouts with our friends which ended up being the perfect portion size for 4 people. I was more impressed with our apps and sides than our steak. The steak was fattier than expected and not as flavorful as expected. Dark wood, leather booths, excellent service -- I see what you're doing here Abe&Louie's keeping the steakhouse mythology alive. But has the food continued to endure or is it the whisper of the greatness of steakhouse past? Flavorful marinated steak was a delight in my "Abe Monsieur" -- but it stopped there. Engulfed in two large slices of mostly bland brioche and what seemed like a sauce reminiscent of thousand island dressing, I was scratching my head wondering why we needed to have the poor piece of meat suffer. Similarly, my Wagyu carpaccio was covered in unseasoned greens and white button mushrooms. The one bright spot was my wedge salad with its thick cut bacon, crisp lettuce and blue cheese -- they served up the classic well. My friend had the filet mignon omelette and it looked nice and was full of meat. For a very special restaurant, I want to expand on my brief first review for Abe & Louie's nearly two years ago, the beginning of my Yelp journey! Abe & Louie's has become my happy place as far as Boston fine dining goes, even before joining Yelp and writing that first review. I've probably been there more than any other restaurant in the city, though this past weekend was my first time of the year. They have pretty much everything you could want for a fantastic meal, and almost every entree I've chosen each time I visit is the amazing boneless 16 oz. prime ribeye steak, which I can't stay away from. Rich, buttery, seared perfectly, dense and yet tender as can be, this is how it's done. For the sides, we went a different way this time by getting apps first instead and one new one to share with the entrees, the delectable brown butter creamed spinach. I was able to taste someone's raw clam still in its shell before that, which wasn't really for me but could tell it was high quality. My appetizer, the clam chowder with bacon was delicious and full of flavor, one of the best chowders I've had. Having learned as much as I have in recent years about wine, I found one of my new favorite reds that really hit the spot with my meal, which was a delight because I'm picky with reds. It's called the Super Tuscan, being not really sweet or dry but something else. Light, fruity, but full-bodied I would say, though I'm no wine expert so others might interpret differently. After these amazing apps and dinner, we went for dessert cause why not! The skillet cookie with vanilla ice cream was the cherry on top, the best form of a cookie I can think of. Also a decaf cappuccino with extra foam and brown cane sugar cubes. The specials all sounded amazing too, including a surf 'n turf. If I ever win the lottery I'll probably come here to order all the specials and take the leftovers home! Abe & Louie's has an old-fashioned, classy but comfortable atmosphere with many tables that get filled up as the night goes on, so you'll need a reservation for a weekend visit. Forget about parking as this is Boylston Street, so if you drive in you'll need to valet. There's great service as well. Do yourself a favor and try Abe & Louie's at least once, you'll surely find something great on their expansive and impressive menu! Side note, Atlantic Fish Company next door is like the same thing except a seafood version, absolutely worth visiting and owned by the same company as Abe & Louie's, the Tavistock Restaurant Collection. read more

Fish was overcooked and dry and clams were tasteless and chewy. This place is probably a great option for a solid meal and consistent quality, but I wouldn't bring someone with the intention to impress them. If I could give one critique that could be immediately improved, it is that I wish the food was hotter. We had ordered the steak tartare, caesar salad, and their tomahawk ribeye, which wasn't pretty salty, we had also asked the steak to be made medium well and it was still very red/ pink for my own liking, My bf had to eat most of it because it was just to raw for me still. What stood out the most was the lack of care during a birthday celebration, when the cake was brought out, it was simply placed on the table and the staff walked away without saying a word. No acknowledgment, no greeting, nothing. It felt rushed and impersonal, which took away from what should have been a special moment. So... we are visiting Boston and loving the city. If you love tasty food, pass this address and go somewhere else... When we arrived at the table, the first thing that shocked me was the noise level - it was to much louder than at the bar area. The lobsters - meant to be 2 pound lobsters- arrived with tails and the claws out of shell and in a dish - I immediately was not filled with confidence as it looked quite small for 2 pounds... the explanation - it was overcooked and with absolutely no seasoning - I'm pretty sure there was no kind of seasoning in the water they were overcooked in either, not even a bouquet garni. The butter they were served with was just melted butter, no garlic, no salt, no seasoning of any kind. If you are still reading, you know I wasn't impressed. We also ordered a bottle of wine - the Pouilly Fumé was decent but definitely not worth the price tag. Now let's talk about our server - Jeffrey. From the time we arrived, we felt like he didn't like us / looked down on us. We are tourists, decently dressed but on the casual side, some of us with tattoos - not sure what actually made him think we wouldn't be good customers. He was not very helpful , just trying to up sell and down sell (he clearly didn't read this table well) and did not ask us once how the meal was going (at the point where he should have asked I was told that i would not be the one to speak up to be too blunt). After a long day at a conference we had dinner at Abe & Louie's. This was my first time in Boston so also my first time dinning here. Our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu and educated us on great options. The ambience was excellent, large seating layout great for groups. As for the food and drinks the team definitely ate well to close out the evening. The bread was amazing you have be very careful not to keep eating it because you will be full by time your food arrive. I had the salmon but I really was not a fan of it. So I am not sure I would recommend that entree. My colleagues had the chicken and steak and they both enjoyed so would definitely recommend trying. This place! My goodness - the vibes immediately give an old school dining atmosphere - elegant yet cool. The staff are phenomenally courteous and educated about the menu. We started with lobster ravioli; amazing taste; light fluffy goodness. Husband has the filet with blue cheese fondue and I had the risotto with lobster-nothing short of outstanding. Heart was happy knowing they use Midwest beef - the hash browns are stupid good - the only way I will ever eat them again. Seriously a must if you're visiting! read more

Stopped by for a quick lunch today and had an incredible meal! We shared the lobster club, clam chowder, and tuna tartare and WOW! Hands down the most delicious turkey club served on soft, delicious, bread, and they are very generous with the lobster! The clam chowder is delicious and the tuna tartare was light and refreshing. The lobster club is a MUST! Served with a side salad. We had the strawberry tequila drink which was so well balanced and delicious and a manhattan which was equally as good. Staff is very friendly in a warm and welcoming environment. Parking is hard as it is in the general area so walking is encouraged. Will definitely be back and highly recommend this place! read more
