Our last contact here was packaged to go. Portions were so generous that when we got home I could only finish a really large Beans & Cheese Burrito and Shredded Beef Taco with tomatoes added, plus splitting a Large order of French Fries with Diane. I had a Beef and Bean Tostada the next day for lunch. A small side of Guacamole was enough to enhance all three dishes. The burrito was cheesy and extremely filling. The taco nicely crunchy and well filled. And the tostada was well topped with lettuce and cheese. I added a slice of fresh tomato to make it even better. I'm local to the area and love coming to this place. I came to try the tacos this time & when I tell you that they were FILLED with meat, I mean it! I ordered the three asada taco plate. The beans were hearty and cheesy, the red rice tasted like home, and the tacos were delicious. I like the green salsa better than the red because that ones too spicy for my personal preference. Great hours -- open at 7AM 6 days, a week; at 8AM on Sunday. I had huevos rancheros for breakfast -- the ranchera sauce was perfect, the beans and eggs good. The tortillas were not as great as homemade at El Burrito, but that's a high bar. I'd recommend Abelinos make coffee available at breakfast. C'mon, you're opening at 7! I dined in but was still eating out of a styrofoam container with plastic cutlery. I'd like to find a place for an early morning breakfast that has real plates and cutlery. (Mr. Taco is perhaps a little better, opening early, too, , you can eat out on the patio, although there's still music that can be loud -- so perhaps that's a better choice.) I've heard good things about Abelinos so when I happened to be in town and craving a California burrito, I decided to stop in. First thing that stood out to me above anything else, the young lady who helped me at the register WAS SO PLEASANT! Very welcoming and nice and since a CA burrito isn't on their menu she helped me sort it out. It was one of those lazy, after-work weekdays where neither my wife nor I felt like cooking dinner. That and we didn't have any food in the fridge. When we were both home, we pulled up Yelp and browsed through restaurants that were within ten minutes driving distance. Abelino's was one of those places that we never really considered it's small, hole-in-the-wall appearance. Yet, from experience, hole-in-the-wall eateries are usually the best. Today was definitely a day to try Abelino's. We walked into the small restaurant and was overwhelmed with the menu plastered on the wall. There were many options to choose from including quesadillas, burritos, tacos, and combination plates. We were both feeling fish taco-y and ordered the fish tacos. We also noticed that there were rave reviews regarding the carne asada fries so we added that in the order too. My wife and I sat down and enjoyed the air conditioning and within five minutes, our orders were ready. The friendly cashier guy also informed us that there were cold salsa bottles in the fridge that we could help ourselves to. The food was definitely pleasing to the eye with everything covered in sauce and dripping in fresh garnishes. BUT...for some odd reason, one couldn't really taste the freshness. Normally, the mark of great Mexican food is freshness and sadly, we couldn't taste the cilantro, onions, or lemon. The fish tacos also seemed to be frozen battered fish rather than freshly, in-house battered fish. The carne asada fries were covered in sauteed beef, but again, the beef was lacking flavor. Sadness. We had high expectations coming into this restaurant especially since there are so many positive reviews on Yelp. Maybe we came on an off day.
