So this winter our chimney cap apparently rusted and during the weather part of it blew off. It didn't seem to pose an immediate issues so we ignored it. So I just moved into my home and after using my dryer for the first time the laundry room became very humid, wet and hot. It was so bad that I thought there wasn't an exhaust going outside for the dryer. After searching on Google for companies that could install an exhaust I came across Abetter Vent. I spoke directly with Alex and after talking it out realized I had a vent leading outside on the roof but it was just clogged so I didn't need to have an exhaust installed after all, I just needed it cleaned out. Call me naive but I didn't know this happens or was a thing. Alex and his helper made a few visits to give some long-overdue maintenance to two fireplaces in the older house I recently bought. My calls were returned promptly and appointments were confirmed in a pleasant way. They cleaned the chimneys and fireplaces thoroughly and were meticulous about containing the dust and dirt. I barely had to clean after they left. One of the fireplaces got more extensive work: new crown damper with spark screen, crown patching, sealing exterior brickwork, patching cracks in the firebox and new ash dump door. I'm not experienced in home repairs but the work seems very competent and the price fair. Alex and son Alex did an excellent job cleaning my dryer vent. They were both professional, courteous, and pleasant, completed the job in less than an hour, and cleaned up thoroughly. They vacuumed the vent from the house through to the roof. Then went up on the roof to visually ensure the vent was not blocked. In fact they found a piece of metal mesh embedded 2 1/2 feet down from the roof access that was blocking air flow. They also replaced the flex hose connecting the dryer to the wall, which was crimped, thereby restricting air flow. My recent experience with ABetter Vent Cleaning is that they are a fast, professional and thorough dryer vent cleaning service. They arrived at the house in the time frame quoted, had all the professional gear required, and had the knowledge and skill to do the job well. The vent was thoroughly vacuumed and scrubbed from the dryer location, located inside the house, to the roof vent, located midway up the top of my Mediterranean-tile roof. At the completion of the work, I was shown photos of the inside of the vent and advised that there was a minor interior depression within the angled section of the vent. Alex suggested that with regular cleaning, this would not present a problem. Since ABetter Vent Cleaning offers a 6-month warranty on their work, they have a real incentive to do the work well the first time; and this level of thoroughness is evident in the manner they go about their work. Before I selected Abetter, I called around and checked on pricing and found that their fees were well in line with most of the other service providers. The difference is that Abetter is a flat-fee service. They also had the gear: a powerful professional 3-motor vacuum ($2,500 to $3,000 to purchase new) and a multi-brush kit, including a spring-loaded brush for moving around angles and fast-connect rods that allow for reversing the rotation - a feature that facilitates thorough vent cleaning. He also had a professional vent-inspection camera that synced with his iPhone. If you add to this his 16 years of vent and chimney cleaning experience, you will find that the do-it-yourself dryer-vent cleaning proposition is simply not worth it! We have a pellet fired fireplace insert in our home, We have had it for 15 plus years all trouble free, untill last winter it developed a problem where it would light and go out after 10 or 15 minutes, It would take several restarts before it would stay lit. I read up on the machine looked at my owners manual cleaned it the best i could and tried different tips to get it working properly again. I came to the conclusion that the problem might be the electronic eye that ( sees ) the flame and feeds the pellets to keep it burning. That being out of my league i decided to find an expert. I called Hennings because they sell pellet fire inserts, they told me that they dont service them anymore and recommended ABetter Vent cleaning. I called them in september before the cold season because i new that they might get too busy when it got cold, i wanted my machine to be working great by winter. I made an appointment with a person i was lead to believe was the owner, i explained to him the problem and told him i thought it might be a dirty or faulty electronic eye, and made an appointment for sept. 24th. when the repair guy Alex showed up i again explained the problem to him and told him what i thought was the culprit the eye. He stated that he wanted to do a stage 2 cleaning ??? and asked me if i was given a price quote i said no and he said ( my boss must be slipping ) he then said the stage 2 cleaning was $299.00 i asked him does that include cleaning the electronic eye? he said no and he was not sure what the cost would be because every machine is different. He then walked over to my machine and pulled it back so we could see behind it right away he said the installation was done wrong and not to code and would all have to be redone he said it wont work right installed like this! im like its been working fine for 15 years. he then said the hopper is full of pellets its going to take me a half an hour to empty it ( the guy on the phone that i made the appointment with could have told me to empty it ) Next thing i know the guy is outside on his cell phone talking to his boss about how much its going to cost to redo the installation. while i waited I cleaned out the hopper of pellets, it took less then 10 minutes. finally he came in and said they would send us a quote to redo it.( I never got it ) I said i still want it working correctly so how much more would it cost to clean and test the electronic eye he said he wouldnt know untill he took the machine apart because there are all different. I had to go to work so i left him there with my wife and i said call me when you know the price. About an hour later my wife calls me to tell me its going to be $500.00 I said thats a lot of money but as long as it gets fixed ill pay for it i also asked her to ask him what he finds out with the electronic eye like is it really dirty or going bad or what? I had left my home at 9:30am i get a call from my wife at 12:00 noon its all done and working fine no parts were used and there was no answer or comment about the eye so i gave them a credit card over the phone the final price $499.00 thats a lot of money for a couple hours of labor ( no discount for me emptying the hopper ) I called the boss the next day because im curious about the condition of the eye he said ill have Alex call you ( never got a call ) fast foward to the first cold day two months later, its California so it wasnt really that cold but i wanted to see how my machine worked i ran it for 30 to 40 minutes it seemed fine but it wasnt untill it got cold enough to use every day thats when i discoverd that it started back to its old trick of shutting down after running for awhile. So i called back talked to the boss, again he told me he would have Alex call me. He did call me this time, i explained to him that the problem was still there, i again asked him about the eye, he said ( i cleaned the machine according to the owners manual ) the one i had showed him when he was there to clean it. Never did i get any kind of an answer as to the condition of the eye. He then told me he would look at the diagram for my machine when he got back to his office to see if he could trace the problem. i never heard back and now i have to restart the machine 3 to 5 times every nite just like before a real pain in the butt. read more

They even called to say they were running AHEAD of schedule and could they come early the day of service. They were great, and didn't make a mess in my living room.
