They put Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks on the front to level out my 2018 Ford F150. They also put the Bilstein 5100 in the rear. They added a rear airbag kit that worked perfect and installed, aligned, and balanced new tires and rims! The truck looked absolutely the way I envisioned it looking! Would give 0 stars if that was an option. Took my car there with a warranty issue. Told them it was under warranty and the paperwork was in the glove box. They told be the problem was not covered and charged me full price. I trusted them and paid, then reviewed my warranty to discover that, yes, the problem was covered. Buddy, apologized profusely and stated they would make it right. Well, multiple phone calls to him, week after week, kept getting the run around. Bottom line is that he did not keep his word. Never made it right or even offered anything. They not only lost my business for the 3 cars I own but will not get any referrals from me. In fact I will go out of my way to tell people not to go there. Very dishonest business. They will be nice to you to get your business but at the end of the day they are NOT ABOUT SERVICE. I found "About Service" online while looking for a shop to get a MAXXSTAK 2.5" lift installed on my 2015 GMC Denali pick-up truck. I lived 40+ miles from About Service, but I decided to take a chance and have them do the work. My installation was scheduled, and performed FLAWLESSLY! I elected to wait for my service to be completed so that meant I ended up spending 2.5 hours in their waiting area, drinking coffee and reading. While there, I have to tell you, I witnessed an operation that I would consider to be beyond reproach. Both Mark and Buddy were like few other proprietors I have seen. Their customer service was incredible. I listened to Buddy spend about 20 minutes on the phone with a customer trying to talk them OUT OF a $6,000 repair. Yes, you heard that correctly. Buddy literally went out of the way to convince this customer that they did NOT want to spend that kind of money on their vehicle, which was clearly not worth such an expense. Most repair shops do not do such things, and it was truly refreshing to witness. Beyond that, I admired their caring interactions with their customers over the time I was waiting for my vehicle. To wrap this up, I really wish that About Service was closer to my house. I would love to be able to conveniently use them for all of my vehicle service needs. THEY ARE THAT GOOD! About service is not about customer service atleast not anymore. I had a similar poor experience recently like other reviewers. The issue is with the new owner. He had no patience, was condescending and wasn't shy to give attitude. He also wouldn't explain issues because he "already explained" and argued petty details with us. What sucks is my car was running worse after I got it back, owing them a thousand dollars and it took them 15 days just to replace injector connectors (which of course he made it sound like they were impossible to get and shipped from somewhere in Kentucky). Also, he acted like we were causing his whole shop to go under because the tow truck guy didn't park on the street until we got there, he then proceeded to drive my already rough running car quickly as if in a hurry to get us out. I'm glad I decided to take my car elsewhere, I saved atleast a thousand dollars and it only took 1 day to get it repaired by a mechanic who specializes in my car and was recommended by my auto club. I could have saved time and money by doing a little research first (lesson learned). It seems this place must still be living off the good reputation of the former owner. Even if they're mechanics are trustworthy, having to deal with someone that treats customers in this way is just not someone I want to do business with, especially when there are so many other places to take your car. read more

The best automotive repair shop in Escondido. And they know diesel trucks. I brought my '02 GMC Duramax diesel for some repairs. Here's a run down: Two injectors + misc related gaskets & seals Idler Arm Pitman Arm Inner tie rod ends Right front Hub assembly They went above and beyond my expectations in their diagnosis. Ted called me the next day to give me the status of each individual injector and we agreed on which injectors to be replaced. This is amazing to me! Typically, in my experience, shops will require replacing in sets of 4 or all 8 @ $350 a piece plus a large amount of labor. It's exceptional to find someone who will take the time to identify the parts you really need to replace. Later that day I called him back to diagnose and repair the front suspension. Good thing I did! Can't say enough good things about this place. Honest, no pressure. At every step Ted advised me on what needed to be repaired immediately and which pieces could wait. NO UPSELLING ( I really appreciated this). Will definitely be bringing all our cars here. read more

I needed to know if what I just purchased was worth what I paid or not. They were able to tell me all the gritty details that I wish I didn't know of but in the long run...the details were very helpful in determining whether or not to keep the pickup truck. Armed with legitimate and soon to be validated information, I was able to negotiate with the used car dealership to ensure a win-win situation for all parties involved. Even after a 3-4 year hiatus on my part (because we leased an Acura), their service manager, Mark recognized my partner immediately. About Service is AMAZING! I took my car in because my air conditioner had stopped working. I dropped it off in the morning to find out what was wrong and by lunch time, they had diagnosed the problem. They let me know how much it would be to fix the AC and in the mean time, I remembered that I had an after market warranty. I let Ted and Mark at About Service know that I had the warranty and they set me up with an appointment (because I couldn't leave my car) the following Monday and they did all of the work with the warranty company...which turns out was a pain to work with. I would take my car back to About Service in a heart beat. They are extremely professional, friendly, and know what they're doing. They aren't the least expensive shop in town but you know that they'll take care of your vehicle and stand behind it. read more

My good friend recommended that I take my truck here because as he called it "one of the few honest mechanics". I was noticing some new noises my truck was making and couldn't figure it out so I took my truck to About-Service to figure it out. They kept my GMC Diesel truck all day trying to find what I thought was an issue with the slip-yolk but of course I am not a mechanic. After several hours of trying to hunt down any potential issues they told me that everything was tip top and they wouldn't feel comfortable fixing anything that didn't need to be fixed. When I picked up my truck the next day they handed me the keys and said "no charge" .... wow, even for their time they wouldn't take any coin. I was referred to this shop by another shop in Escondido. I have a brand new Camaro SS and wanted a Performance alignment because I am taking the car to race tracks to drive it. He told me $250 bucks when i picked it uo it was $535 with no phone call for a approval or anything, and an adatude to boot. So after bit the steering wheel was not lining up when going straight down the road , i took it back and he accused he of having some else re-align the car. The last instance was going to be paid for by a 3rd party because of a towing mistake, so all he to do was the work , but he pulled it in the alignment rack and noted all the different specs but did nothing , even though he was going to be paid? He also accused me of talking down to him, witch he deserves. He is one of the poorest customers representatives i have ever dealt with. Awful Thanks Mark Quick. read more

Always get a second opinion unless you come here first. Took my car to Bob Stall Chevy to check out an engine noise (tick,tick,tick). After two and a half hours they say it is a lifter in the #1 cylinder and will cost $2,200. Could be much more if the cam is damaged. Car has 47,000 miles. Not happy to say the least. I wanted a second opinion (like when you see a doctor and you get BAD news)! I was told by my son to check out About Service in Escondido. I made an appointment and dropped it off Thursday morning (3/8/18 @ 7:45). Austin said he would call me late morning with the problem. I get a call just before 11. The problem was.......#3 cylinder spark plug had become loose! Hot damn life is good! That was great news. The patient does not need major surgery! Can't thank Jim (who found the problem) and the staff at About Service. They got it right the first time and saved me big $$$$! Thanks guys. read more

OK, so I know a lot of these reviews are positive and state how Mark is such an honest guy. Unfortunately, I have to strongly disagree with that sentiment. I was recommended to this mechanic by a "friend" of my mother so I went there expecting a good deal on the work I would be getting as I was given that impression by this "friend." So I take my car in and have him look at it. There is no mention of any cost to this at the time and I did not expect to have to pay for a friend of a friend to check the car over and see what needs to be done. Well, Mark tells me that the car needs a minimum of $3400 worth of work to it as there is no after-market for some particular part of the car and the dealer cost is very high yada yada yada. Once I state that I just don't have that much to spend on the repairs he became very interested in what I was going to do with the car after it left his shop. I said that I would probably be letting it go back to the lease holder and accept the loss (credit, monetary, etc) that that would entail which he seemed quite relieved about. When I come to pick the car up I have a bill for $100 for looking at the car. I explained this was a bit surprising to me and he points at a sheet of paper (as if it was something we had looked at before) which shows $100 fee. I had not seen this paper nor had there been any mention at all of a fee but, fine, I paid it and left. A few days later we found another mechanic through our church who completely fixed the car for $900 total. There most certainly WAS an after-market for the part I was told an after-market didn't exist for by Mark and obviously he was overcharging in other areas as well. I would not recommend this shop to anyone by any means for any reason. read more

DO NOT GO TO ABOUT SERVICE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR VEHICLE DESTROYED AND TO SPEND MONTHS AND MONTHS BATTLING WITH THEM AND THEN TO HAVE TO GO TO COURT TO GET YOUR MONEY BACK FOR THE DAMAGE THEY CAUSE. About service destroyed my engine while trying to replace a turbo by not following a standard procedure to check the inter cooler for oil. They then couldn't even fix the engine after they destroyed. Now they wont even pay for the damage they have caused. the Bureau of Automotive Repair found several violations when they investigated their shop and agreed that they screwed up and need to be responsible. They still wont pay so I now have to take About Service to court to get a judgment to get my money back from them. read more
