I came here to bring my dog in for his rabies vaccination and to see about teeth cleaning and when I left my dog was limping, in lots of pain and was so lethargic he could barely walk. He literally had to be carried out to the car. When I first let the vet tech take my dog inside, she had a bit of attitude and snatched him from me in an aggressive way that was completely unnecessary which was the first red flag. I should have just canceled my appointment at that moment and took my dog elsewhere, but I thought maybe I was just being overprotective or just overthinking the situation. I don't know what happened to my dog while in their care since they still make you wait outside in your car even though it's been 6 yrs since Covid. My dog was completely fine before going in and now I need to take him somewhere else to see what's happening with him since he appears to be in a lot of pain and can barely walk. I took my dog in for excessive pink spots, itchiness, and restlessness on a Monday and I was out within an hour in a half. My dog had skin allergies. STAY AWAY!!! Took my doggy in because she was extremely lethargic and wasn't eating for days, we paid roughy almost 500. The vet called and told me everything was perfectly fine with her, just to give her some anti nausea medication. My baby got worse throughout the night so I ended up rushing her to VCA where she was diagnosed with pyometra and had to undergo immediate surgery that same day. If I would've never asked for a second opinion, my pretty girl wouldve died. Besides the fact that he was extremely nonchalant when I spoke to him OVER the phone , he showed no interest nor concern over my pet. I also asked him if she had a fever and he proceeded to say no , when I later on confirmed that she did. Keep in mind I was asking because her body temperature seemed extremely warmer than usual. Don't take your pets here! I'm just glad that the vet at VCA was able to get her diagnosed and we had her in surgery that same day. And almost a week later I finally got my girl back today, after days of her staying overnight at the clinic to be monitored after her surgery due to the magnitude of the infection she had. Our bill was beyond but she's worth every penny. I'm usually not the type to write a yelp reviews unless it's a positive one but my experience with this place was disgraceful and I hope other pet parents are aware before taking their babies here. read more

I had an awful experience at this veterinary clinic. I brought my dog in for vomiting and diarrhea, and after lab work, a urine test, a Cerenia shot, and an IV, I was charged nearly $500. When we got home, my dog's condition worsened significantly. The next day, he cried in pain when we tried to pick him up. I went back to the clinic to understand what was causing this. My daughter spoke with Dr. Citek, said that he didn't know why he was in pain, he offered to do x-rays, my daughter asked if the clinic would cover it, he shockingly hung up on her. I then called and waited for ten minutes to speak to the manager, Tracy. I asked her if the exams or injections had caused my dog to suffer more, and why we weren't warned about possible pain. Instead of addressing my concerns, she was dismissive, rude, and impatient. She even told me to go to a 24-hour clinic without explaining what could be wrong. Her comparisons to her own stomach issues were irrelevant and completely unhelpful. This clinic prioritized money over care and compassion, leaving my dog in pain and us without answers. Took in my 3 year old husky since he had no appetite and wasn't eating anything. My visit was on the 22nd of February and I paid for a blood exam, x rays, antibiotics and my visit. Spent $391 and still don't know what is wrong with my dog. I asked if I could hold off on the fluid / steroidal injections to see if he got better with the antibiotics and time. The vet told me to buy my pet chicken noodle soup, yogurt, honey and cheerios and if he didn't eat to come back for fluid injections which were another $93. I was ok with that option. Unfortunately my pup didn't take to any of those food options. I called back and asked if I could pay for the injections since my pup has to have something in his body for nutrients and entice him to eat. I was told that I have to pay for ANOTHER VISIT just to pay for the injections. I mean cmon, I just gave you guys almost $400 two days ago and you want to charge me another visit to give my dog something you had recommended on the first invoice?! This place was recommended to me for service and price, and I stand by it! We have taken our dog, and recently small Guinea pigs. This is my go to pet clinic. The staff and Dr. Citek are always so professional and helpful. The cost are low, and the more pricey stuff is reasonable, you don't feel taken advantage of. Something to keep in mind is that you don't physically see the doctor. When you get there you call the number and staff will come out to write down your concern and take your office visit payment of $40. Once a room opens up staff will come get your pet. The doctor will call you to discuss the diagnosis and recommended plan/test. Once you decide what you want to do staff will come out to collect payment, and your pet is brought back out when everything is done. The doctor will call you once he is done with everything with a final conversation and answer any questions you have. You have to wait in the parking lot throughout the entire visit, unless the situation requires a longer stay. read more

UPDATE: lady referred to in here is the Vet's wife. DO NOT go here! Front office staff is rude and older Caucasian female who claims to be the office manager is by far, the most ridiculous "person" I've ever come across I a professional setting. After waiting an HOUR with ZERO communication, I call back and ask why cars arriving after me have been assisted and not me. The "office manager" proceeds to tell me the following that it's medicine pick ups (it wasn't), and then when I said I saw people with clipboards who came after me she says "those are new patients, are you new?" I say no. She asks if I want to fill one out then? Now, I usually DO fill one out EVERY TIME I go! So???? Then she said "answering unnecessary calls doesn't help either." I then told her to not make passive aggressive comments to me and that it was unnecessary. She then told me I can find another Vet and hung up on me. So I walk into the office, mask on, and ask her if she was the one who hung up and that my only question was if he would be seen. When I said this lady was SCREAMING at the top of her lungs "Get out!" I am not exaggerating - BTW, please note that one two Mae staff members were seen wearing masks inside!! Her and another female colleague were shoulder to shoulder with no mask!!!! I asked her about three times to stop yelling and answer the question and after her 5th or 6th scream, she says their is a sign on the door prohibiting me. I said, because that was my fault, I did not see the sign 1) my glasses were not on 2) I literally didn't see it! She threatens me with the cops. I said for what? To have a question answered? There is no threat? But ok. She picked up the phone and calls Downey PD. I stood at the door and heard her tell them I was irate and I said "no, not me ma'am. You." Repeated that all I wanted to know is if he'd be seen! Cops came. Told my story. They understood. I left. Never going back. Above and Beyond...what anyone should be spending. Avoid this place at all costs. I took my dog in for a spay which is a relatively routine and common procedure. My two-year-old dog weighed in under 10 lbs. and was perfectly healthy. They bait you into accepting a service by giving you a low "estimate" of the fees you will incur. How do they not have exact prices, or range of prices for varying circumstances? Once you accept the service, they switch the price, bringing you a bill with a much higher price than what was quoted, along with added costs they then tell you were not included in the estimate. On my initial phone call (from outside their facility door) to inquire about a spay for my dog, I asked for a price. They told me bloodwork was required to determine whether or not the dog was healthy enough to withstand the surgery. They also told me that I would have to wait until Monday for the results, then decide whether to go through with the procedure. So, I then asked for an overall cost of the entire process: I asked, "so how much is this entire process going to cost me...around 800 bucks? Their answer: "No, no, no. More like 400." To which I responded with, "OK, sure. I can manage 400." I accepted the bloodwork to initiate the process, with the understanding that the whole process would cost me around $400. They initially billed me $40 for the office visit. Then, while I waited for the bloodwork to be completed, I was brought another bill for $214. I then asked what the actual spay was going to cost, apart from the bloodwork. I was told it would be around another $400. I was upset. I told the technician that when I first inquired just a few minutes earlier, I was told the entire process would cost me $400. She mumbled a bit, said well no, that the spay was separate and should be around $400 more. After calling another clinic and them telling me it would cost me $600, all-inclusive at their office, I decided to finish what I had started at Above and Beyond (A and B). Again, expecting to pay another $400 for the actual spay. My wife returned to the clinic on Monday for the bloodwork results and to go through with the spay. Upon arrival, she asked how much the spay would cost and she was told it would be between $200 and $300. She accepted. Shortly after our dog had been taken in for the procedure, they came back with a bill for $490, pending any medication and added costs for an enlarged uterus. She was also billed $40 just for the office visit. The spay procedure alone cost us a total of $591.90, including the added cost for an enlarged uterus and the medication. I admit that we panicked a bit, and rushed to get the spay done because our dog was in heat. There are several low-cost clinics for spaying and neutering, but the couple that I contacted did not have any appointments available any time soon or at all. I did visit three other clinics prior to arriving at A and B. We will "bite the bullet", "take the loss", but hope this serves as a warning for others. Avoid this place. It is "Above and Beyond" but for all the wrong reasons. read more

I'm not one for poor reviews but I really feel that this place was a waste of money and time! We spent a minimum of an hour and a half just waiting to be seen each visit and then we couldn't even come inside with our dog! We were continuously recommend to return the next day and made to believe that our pets ailments were of urgent care (when they weren't). Lab work was done and we weren't given records, our pups weight dropped 10 lbs within two days and went unnoticed by the vet. We were given bill after bill and prescriptions recommended when the previous one was no where near running out. We weren't given the time of day or any information beyond the vets recommendation. I went here only because it was the ONLY place that would do a same day walk in. My usual vet was booked up for a month and my pet was very sick. This place could improve first by doing Face to face with veterinarian would be having a lobby and restroom for your customers. NO restroom ay all. You are told to go somewhere else. Explanation of treatment and actual diagnosis of your pet's condition. This place will not let you enter the building and you must wait outside! Vet will call you and tell you what treatment to do. Then tech comes out to charge you. Then when you receive the bill things are added or omitted. If you question it you will be told it "wasn't on the doctors notes" as if he isn't even there. Maybe he isn't. Maybe he's working from home or somewhere far away? Time sensitive health issues aren't treated promptly. Beware. This place is a last resort! Vet loves to talk about drunk animals on YouTube and how to make beer out of your pets feces. No lie he actually said that on the phone as I sat in the hot sun outside in the parking lot. Had to take my pet to another vet and then hospital. He passed away and the delayed treatment of a very serious condition that was not properly diagnosed and (contributed to his demise. I want to add that the vet techs were amazing and agreed that the business practices are "ridiculous " and it's their "job". Our family is beyond grateful for the love and comfort our Yorkie Vinnie was given. We had our boy for 15 years and he was having health issues due to his age; stopped eating and weak heart. The vet and staff was so comforting to my kids, we were left with peace knowing the best thing to do is put our baby down. They gave us time to say goodbye with no pressure. Been going here for over 20 years. After Covid it just went downhill since they never went back to appointments. Love dr Citek personally but the way he runs his practice is not great. I have come well before their listed close times from Buena Park and have been turned away MULTIPLE TIMES. Today was the last time. An hour and a half before their listed close time and we were not able to be seen. I manage a restaurant and could never turn people away until it was AFTER our hours are closed. Brought my 8 week old kitten with worms and a eye irritation. Boba got his shot for the worm, medication to help with it, and eye cream for the irritation. After a day pass I saw the tape worm come out which was a big relief. A week later his eye looks better stool looks okay might need some more medication but he's happy active and eating well. It's nice because it's walk-ins so you can come in and not have to wait except those who are ahead. The price is reasonable. read more
