I had a disappointing and emotionally distressing experience at Downey Veterinary Hospital that I believe others should be aware of. My pet was seen multiple times and received blood work, a key screen, IG parasite panel, an ultrasound, and fluids with vitamin B complex for hydration support. Dr. Anna De Villa was caring and ultimately referred me to a specialist when she felt she could no longer help which I appreciated. She advised me to request all medical records. I asked for the records on Friday morning, and the front desk staff assured me they would be emailed within 24-48 hours. By Tuesday evening, nothing had been sent, and my pet's condition had worsened. I had to take him to the emergency room, where the staff urgently needed his medical records. I returned to the clinic and, desperate, asked for them again and explained the emergency. As I was leaving, one of the front desk staff who identified herself as Dr. Anna's mother stopped at the exit door, visibly upset about the tone I had used when requesting the records from Dr. Anna. She emphasized again that Dr. Anna is her daughter and Dr. De Villa is her husband and seemed more concerned about how I spoke than the fact that my dog was critically ill. I told her, "I don't understand why you're stopping me right now my pet is in the car, waiting to go to the ER." Her response shocked me: "Then let's go to your car." She followed me from the clinic door all the way to my vehicle, as though this confrontation was more urgent than the medical emergency at hand. It was completely inappropriate and honestly felt surreal. That moment made it painfully clear where the clinic's priorities were and it wasn't with the well-being of my pet. Pet emergencies should never be delayed because of miscommunication or personal bias. I sincerely hope they reflect and improve their professionalism and urgency in future situations. ALSO if you got bigger PETS go somewhere else the vet techs assistant HERE aren't good at handling bigger PETS. the vet assistants here ARE TOO USE TO ONLY HANDLING SMALL Pets. If you know your Pet doesn't do well with strangers Go somewhere else don't stress them out coming here. One bad experience was enough for US. Also becareful being late here even by a minute they will make you reschedule or make you pay an extra 35 late fee on top of whole visit and everything thing else. Have witnessed this before with other clients and It is always awkward to witness this happen. make sure you get to the appointment 10mins early to avoid that and you do also need to call to have them open the door For you. keep that in mind Coming here give yourself plenty of time to park and drive into the parking lot. traffic gets heavy on Brookhurst especially when the kids get out of the high school. service here isn't the worst but Definitely needs improvement Especially some of the exam rooms they feel more like large closets them actual rooms. On a side not, personally I appreciate his humor. When he sees the stress and worry in my eyes and makes a joke it really helps lighten my heart. They have an app that allows you to collect reward points for a free nail trim, 10% off a visit, and a free visit! It definitely helps and comes in handy. The app also allows you to set , confirm and cancel appointments. It allows you to set your pet(s) profiles up as well. It shows you the medical records for each pet. We finally found a Vet that cares. After going to Pico Rivera Animal Hospital for years since she was a pup, we grew tired of the inflated prices and the lack of care my dog received. Dr. Raymond and his staff are so caring and professional. They are all so friendly. I love the fact that Dr. Raymond takes the time to listen and doesn't rush you out. He is the only doctor there, which makes him really get to know your pet and follow through with their care. Again I had the misfortune of experiencing how insufficient the office staff at this Veterinary hospital are. I had my dog receive treatment since October 2019, I thought I'd give it a chance being that Dr. R. Villa was there now. Recently, as I was again attempting to refill a medication my dog needs for his heart, the online ped meds company I was buying from called DVH to get prescription and AGAIN the office staff told them they had no record of my dog been seen there. Anything before or after Wendy Williams please . I literally was so caught up in the excitement of my dog being out of surgery and on her way home that I walked out without the cone for my dogs head. Of Course I didn't realize it till I got home. I know this isn't a service that they do for everybody but they did do it for me.I am forever grateful!!!!!Yes Xavier came all the way to my house and dropped off the cone literally came into my house went upstairs and put it on my dog! I had a similar experience to another reviewer who took her dog in for an anal gland expression. It's 30 dollars for visit now and 15 for expression so I paid a total of 45 dollars for that. The worst part is, i didn't even know they were charging me that much. I always take my dog here, and the aids tend to be helpful, but I can't say they're upfront about the charges they bill you for. Seems highly unfair to just to charge you for all these things and they don't tell you what for. I always have to double check and ask what I'm being charged for. I don't appreciate them overcharging their patrons. This is the second time they are unfair with their pricing so I definitely will be looking for another vet. read more

I was going to Primary Care vet in Long Beach and was hesitant to change the vet on my dog but boy am I glad I did. After a horrible experience at that vet I came here. Omg it was like night and day!!! They took care of my dog so well! My 3 lb chihuahua wasn't walking and the other vet didn't take care of it. He basically told me he didn't know why he wasn't walking. He had a slipped disc that the other vet missed! I had made the other vet send the X-rays over to Downey vet and Dr. Devilla was able to see that from the same X-rays they had taken at primary care. I am so grateful for this place! This review is for CHAR TAGUINOD the "PRACTICE MANAGER" We have been seeing Dr.Raymond for over 10 years now. He is absolutely the most caring and loving veterinarian we know. We currently live in Chino hills and make the drive to Downey for our dog Princess just to see Dr. Raymond for any issues. During our visit yesterday I spoke to Gabby who is always very helpful. Gabby took in my dog Princess and shortly after I got a call from Dr.T not Dr. Raymond because he was in surgery... Dr.T then started giving me a diagnostic and said my dog would be released shortly to wait outside. I waited an hour and a half after speaking to Dr.T and decided to call the office for an update. Char T. The "Practice Manager" answer and gave me details but also said my dog was scheduled for a drop off "we will call you when she's ready you don't have to wait here" I was aware of my drop off appointment just FYI - I kindly explained to her that Dr.T told me to wait that Princess will be released shortly- I also told her I live in Chino hills therefore I didn't want to leave since Dr. T said my dog Princess was going to be release shortly. She placed me on a brief hold and then said okay we will get her ready for release and call you back. At this time Char T. the "Practice Manager" forgot to hang up the phone.... she instantly started to converse with her co worker and started calling me a DUMBASS for driving from Chino Hills to Downey. She continued to call me a dumbass and said why don't I go to another veterinarian there's plenty around Walnut, West Covina and continued naming other cities around "why the fuck would you come all the way to Downey" go somewhere else!! The other co worker also kept laughing and kept saying what a dumbass!! At this point I couldn't believe what I was listening to! I even said out loud I can hear you! But she obviously couldn't hear me. I then hanged up as I couldn't bare to continue to hear her! I called back and Char T. answered again i asked for her name which she lied said her name was Norma and didn't identify herself as the practice manager after I told her I heard EVERYTHING you said about me. Her tone of voice and demeanor quickly changed and started to apologize at this point I really thought I was speaking to their receptionist I had no idea she was the practice manager. I am APPALLED!! Char T. you should be happy that your place of work still has business during these uncertain times! There is no excuse for your actions! You are clearly unfit for your position! On 02/19/2018, I came home in the afternoon to find my 15 year old dog, Tucker, in bad condition. Tucker had been diagnosed with cancer two years before, and had been steadily declining. His regular vet was not available, and I knew it was time to say goodbye to Tucker. I had passed by the Downey Veterinary Hospital many times on my morning runs, but had never needed to use them. I decided to give them a call and see if they could possible get us in to have him put down. I called the office, and the receptionist was extremely kind and understanding, and said to bring him in right away, and that they would take us back as soon as we got there. When my boyfriend and I arrived at the office and gave our name, the receptionist called the back and said, "Code Angel". Within a few moments, a vet tech came out and ushered us to the back into an exam room. Thirty minutes later, we had said goodbye to our very dear friend and family member, Tucker. It was a beautiful, peaceful passing. I just want to emphasize that we were not clients of Downey Veterinary Hospital. They didn't know me, or my dog. Yet, they took us right in, and treated us with compassion and care during the most difficult time that a pet owner has to face. They treated Tucker as if he were a familiar friend during his last moments, and I will never forget that. They didn't have to be so kind, and yet they were. If I lived closer to them, I would continue to to use them for my other dogs. read more

I definitely do not recommend. At Downey Vet, they are more about quantity($$$) over quality. I can understand being busy, but there becomes a point where it is just ridiculous. It's a 2 month backup to book a normal checkup or even yearly shots. Worse then that, they do not set aside any openings for actual emergencies. When you call for an emergency, they just tell you to go elsewhere. They don't both even asking who your pet is or the issue. What is the point of having a primary vet if they are just going to send you away when you actually need them? And this is not an isolated incident, I've been through the same situation three separate times. Save yourself the frustration and find another primary that is more focused on the animals and not solely on the turnover aka money. read more
