I had first called ahead to make an appointment for a Saturday. If I remember correctly, I was told they do not make appointments for Saturday's and it was a first come first serve basis. Which I think is fair seeing as they are open for about half a day. I had brought in my 10 year old cat due to some cough/wheeze like symptoms she had. I came in as soon as they opened and was assisted in a quick manner. The waiting room is decent and the staff was attentive about any animal that was brought in. My cat was quickly seen by an assistant. Her vitals were taken then we waited for the doctor to come in and further inspect my cat. When he did come in, he asked several questions to eliminate or detect a possible cause. I truly felt that he took his time to make sure he had a sure diagnosis. In the end, he prescribed different medications to help my girl feel better. I think the price of the consultation and medications was very fair. Extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable experience. I did not feel welcomed or treated with compassion at all. Instead, I felt judged and pressured to make a decision about spending $3,000 when I was already stressed and worried about my dog. The employee kept coming into the room and rushing me to make a decision because they were supposedly about to close. It was only 4:00 PM, and the clinic did not close until 6:00 PM. I should not have been made to feel rushed when I was being asked to make a $3,000 decision regarding my dog's care. What really bothered me was walking out of the room and seeing the staff huddled together talking about my situation. It was extremely disrespectful and made me feel like I was being talked about behind my back. When someone is dealing with a sick or injured pet, the last thing they need is to feel judged, pressured, or rushed by the people who are supposed to be helping them. Dr. Hwang saved my baby's life. My 3-year-old cat became deathly ill on Wednesday evening, and after taking her to an emergency vet and being faced with a $10,000 estimate, we took her home and started researching our options. We found Dr. Hwang, and he was kind enough to call us back at 10 PM after hearing about our situation. He immediately told us to bring her in first thing the next morning. When we arrived, he knew exactly what needed to be done and, more importantly, that it needed to be done quickly. He performed her surgery, and just a couple of hours later, I got the call that my baby was out of surgery and everything had gone well. I have never felt more relief in my life. Everyone at the office was incredibly kind and compassionate throughout the entire experience. Even when our cat was being a little feisty post-op, they were so patient and caring with her. Dr. Hwang is phenomenal! Our 14-year-old dog somehow got her paw stuck and injured her toe, leaving the nail bent almost 90 degrees from its original position with quite a bit of bleeding. We called Dr. Hwang's office, and the front desk staff was incredibly helpful and recommended that we bring her in. I was trying to rearrange schedules to get our pup in as soon as possible but couldn't make it until the next morning. A few minutes before they stopped taking walk-ins that evening, the front desk actually called me back to let me know they were about to close--just in case we wanted to bring our dog in that same day. That level of thoughtfulness meant so much. We ended up bringing her in the next morning, and everyone was just as friendly and welcoming in person. Dr. Hwang took great care of our dog, calmed our nerves, and clearly explained the injury and treatment plan. He was also very careful with the treatment given her age and followed up with us a few days later to check on how she was doing. I cannot recommend Downey Animal Hospital enough. After calling multiple veterinarians, we were quoted costs that were simply beyond our means. We were facing a heartbreaking decision: amputate our baby kitten's leg or take on an overwhelming amount of debt to pursue treatment. Our kitten had a dislocated femur and needed surgery. A friend recommended Downey Animal Hospital, and it was the best recommendation we could have received. The veterinarian personally called me back after hours, took the time to review my kitten's case, and explained all of our options honestly and compassionately. Really loved that I found this vet! Our stray kitten who was tiny and sick has grown so much and doing so much better. Since then I have brought my other cat and my dog and it's always a great experience. I appreciate the Doctor and staff because of how friendly and loving they are to my pets. Appointments are helpful but they have walk in on Saturday as well. I brought my cat in a few months ago for a yearly check up and for acne under her chin. when they brought her out after everything, the vet tech told me one of her nails got snagged on something and that she was bleeding a little bit. well when i got home and opened the carrier, there was blood everywhere. i looked at my cats foot and her entire nail had been ripped out. it was way more than a "snag" like the tech had told me. (will insert pic) i called furious and demanded to speak with the dr. he said he had checked before sending her home and there was no bleeding. if there was no bleeding, then why did the tech tell me there was? the dr absolutely did not check. i called my friend who works at a vet for advice since mine wasn't being helpful at all and she recommended i buy smth OTC so i rushed to petco to buy it. the next day, my cat was in tremendous pain, she was shaking all over and lethargic. i called the drs office because this is not okay. i demanded some sort of pain relief for her and then and only then did the dr offer to send pain rx TO CHEWY! do you know how long that would take to get it shipped when my cat needs it now? I said she needs it now. The dr said their office is closed but will make an exception and I can pick up pain meds at the office. wow, so kind. also, the dr never told me the medicine needed to be refrigerated so i gave my cat bad medicine for a couple days without knowing and had to go back to pick up more. overall, would not recommend. if they were truthful from the beginning, I might've been more understanding, but everyone, including the dr tried to cover their own butts, take no responsibility and didn't try to fix the situation until I kept calling. PLEASE don't ever bring your pets here if you care about them because Grace Animal Hospital does not. I have waited some time to write this review to allow my initial frustration to settle down. I want to be fair and clear and share my unpleasant experience. I brought my dog, Gansito, to Grace Animal Hospital on 10/20/25. I was initially quoted approximately $1,300 for his exams, bloodwork and xrays. After that was completed, I was informed that he would be needing surgery for bladder stone removal. The office staff came into the room and on their tablet/ipad showed me the breakdown of the cost of his surgery. which was about $3,800 which was paid in full. Once i paid that amount, i was handed a receipt and was told they would be starting his surgery soon and they would call and updated me, I proceeded to go back home. About 30 minutes later i received a call from Grace Animal Hospital saying that I had been undercharged and that I now owed an additional $2,000. I was in shock; I had just paid a little over $3,800. By that point my dog had already been left at their office to undergo surgery. I felt like I was being held emotionally hostage knowing my pet needed care but suddenly being told i had to pay thousands more at the very last minute. How did the price go up in the amount of time it took me to get back home? I was told it was a mistake and the surgery itself was not $2,000, it was $4,000. I will be clear and say the veterinarian was kind and compassionate and i have no complaints about the actual medical care. But this kind of billing error and lack of transparency is completely unacceptable. If a mistake of this magnitude was made on their end, I do believe the clinic should have absorbed the cost or at least worked a payment plan with me instead of just placing that burden on the pet owner after the fact. I really hope Grace Animal Hospital takes steps to fix their billing practices. Pet owners should never be placed in situations where their love for their animal is exploited through poor communication and sudden financial surprises. read more

Once he was given the diagnosis and confirmed that he needed surgery, I was asking around to find a proper clinic to treat him. Dr. Huang was so so patient during consultation. He gave me a lot of time to explain what happened to his bone, what he will do to meow meow's wrist and what will happen post surgery. They were very supportive throughout the process. I can't speak highly enough about Grace AH! The facility is located on Lakewood Blvd. just north of Florence. It's in a medium sized shopping strip mall with plenty of spacious parking. Grace Animal Hospital is very clean and well maintained. Their front office staff is very professional and friendly! They take walk ins as well as appointments. When you have an appointment there isn't too long of a wait. The waiting room is lovely, they even have a coffee machine. Dr. Hwang is very kind and caring, very professional. I really liked him! He explains things thoroughly. He doesn't try to push any unnecessary care or procedures. He's a wonderful, hospitable veternarian! I will continue to take my pets to Grace Animal Hospital. I took in my baby Elsa for a cough that was persistent for a couple of months. I hadn't taken her due to financial barriers but I kept noticing it get worse so I had to go in. I was so nervous and terrified on what they were going to tell me. The Vet was super kind, comforting & knowledgeable. He answered all of my questions without rushing and he was very attentive to Elsa's needs . As I had mentioned finances has been a barrier to my baby's health but they made it very welcoming with their prices . I am very happy with this place & their professionalism ! This place is a scam. They will make you wait for hours + attempt to overmedicate your dog to make extra money. Had an appointment for a routine checkups and vaccines. Waited several hours. When the doctor finally came in, he looked at my dog for about 30 seconds. I casually mentioned that she has been itching a little bit more lately. He gave her a steroid injection and prescribed antibiotics (despite no infection) + a numbing spray. It seemed like overkill, but I didn't know any better at the time. The office said I needed to come back in a week for followup. The office declined to give any vaccines. I left after 4 hours without vaccines, instead feeling like my dog was treated for a problem that she did not have. The staff kept informing patients it was busy because "it's Monday." They were not particularly apologetic or understanding. The following week I came back and told them my dog is (still) fine. Again, we had an appointment... but we still waited 30 minutes. They tried to give my dog five vaccines, three of which she did not need. One is only for puppies (my dog is four). The other two vaccines were still active, not expired for five more months. I had my previous veterinarian send in her medical history. The office claimed that they went over the paperwork... but when I called my previous vet they confirmed many of my dog's vaccines were still active and should not be readministered. The doctor was friendly, but the staff was not. They seemed cold, stiff, and overworked. Nothing was explained in detail until I persisently asked follow-up questions. I spent a long time in the waiting room. On several occasions I witnessed the staff ignoring patients to accept food deliveries. My wife and I chose this facility because of the large number of positive reviews, but it seems like many of those reviews were written by pet owners facing serious emergencies. I would not recommend this business for non-emergency situations. read more

My dog Roscoe had accidentally fell and broken his femur and required immediate medical treatment. After calling several other hospitals and veterinary clinics with no success, Andy from Grace Animal Hospital returned my voicemail and listened to all of my concerns. Together with Dr. Hwang, they were able to perform emergency surgery and repaired his leg. Andy and Dr. Hwang are both angels. Mind you I lived 2 hours away. Andy waited for me and worked after hours on a Saturday to treat Roscoe. Dr. Hwang made himself available that same Saturday night to help a worried pet parent and her dog. I would give it one star but I don't want them to flag or remove it. This was the worst experience I've ever had at a vet. I had a neuter appointment at 10:30am, and they had let me know my cat was next and to leave him there and come back in a couple hours. I told them to take extreme caution because he has very bad medical grade anxiety to which they said "it's just his personality." I called them around 2pm because I never heard back where they say "oh he's next up for surgery so come back in a few more hours" like ???? He was sitting there for hours alone shaking and traumatized when I could've brought him home and dropped him off later. What's the point of making an appointment then?? they're treating him with no care. Also took my other cat for a check up $45 and all they did was check his weight and heartbeat. He's a Scottish fold and I had to remind him to check the ears and the check up was over in around 4 min. Save your money and check your pets weight at home. Then I asked the vet for the blood test results three separate times, called the next day and it's been a week and it's still not in my inbox. The last straw was this morning I called worried about an open wound on my cat. This is urgent matter, they asked me to email photos and it's been about 4 hours since I sent them and I haven't heard anything yet. Thank you Dr. Daekyung Hwang for the exception and compassionate care you provided to our dog Lexi. Her splenectomy surgery to remove tumors went amazingly well. Her recovery was going great. Unfortunately for us Lexi's pathology came back cancerous and had aggressively spread to her liver before we knew it. Our family had to make the very tough decision to let her go rather than see her suffer more. Your kindness and professionalism carried us through this difficult and heartbreaking decision with such amazing grace and compassion. It touched me deeply. I could tell you truly love and care about the animals in your charge and their families. I have never met a kinder or more gracious man. You truly are an amazing vet and person. Grace Animal Hospital's name is appropriate considering the supportive and welcoming environment Dr. Hwang and his team provide. After an incredibly disappointing experience at another well-known emergency vet, my husband and I brought our sweet Onyx to Grace. I only wish I had found this location sooner. I contacted Dr. Hwang on Yelp late after hours, along with a few other vets, and he responded immediately. My dog needed exploratory surgery for an unknown mass obstructing his stomach. I collected the results and images from the previous vet hospital and shared them with Dr. Hwang. He was kind yet respectfully direct about our options. He told us we could come in the same day we discharged Onyx from the other vet location. Dr. Hwang took the time to thoroughly explain everything we should consider: Onyx's quality of life, his age, and how that could impact a traumatic, invasive surgery, along with the uncertainty about what exactly was causing his issues. We proceeded with the surgery at Grace, and thankfully, Onyx survived. We then began outpatient therapy. Onyx fought hard. The support of Dr. Hwang and his team carried him through the next few days. My husband and I continued to drop Onyx off and pick him up after daily treatments. We had high hopes, but we eventually lost him. I try not to "what if" myself to death -- could Onyx have had a better chance if we found Grace first? I'll never know, so I choose to focus on the positives. I miss him so much -- every day. However, I take solace in remembering that Onyx is in a better place; at least he was surrounded by people who genuinely cared about his well-being. Our 14-year-old husky, Milo, suddenly became extremely sick. I came home to find him lying in a puddle of drool, crying, unable to stand, and clearly in life-threatening distress. We rushed him to an ACCESS emergency hospital in Culver City, but the staff there was rushed, rude, and showed no compassion. They quoted us $18,000 for emergency GDV surgery and made an already terrifying moment much worse. Desperate, we searched for alternatives and found Dr. Hwang's clinic on a list of low-cost vets -- and it was almost closing time. When we called, he said he would stay open so we could bring Milo in immediately. That alone showed more kindness than the entire emergency hospital. Dr. Hwang was calm, caring, and incredibly knowledgeable from the moment we arrived. He confirmed Milo had GDV (twisted stomach) and carefully walked us through our options. Because Milo is elderly, we had several very hard decisions to make, and Dr. Hwang guided us with patience, honesty, and true compassion. He never rushed us and explained everything clearly. He even came in early the next morning to perform Milo's surgery, giving us the chance to take him home overnight to hydrate and prepare him so he had a better chance of surviving. That level of dedication is rare. We drove all the way from Marina del Rey because his prices were the most affordable -- but we would return for his compassion and expertise alone. Dr. Hwang genuinely cares about animals and the families who love them. Thanks to him, Milo is still with us today. If we lived closer, he would absolutely be our primary vet. Grace hospital in Downey is god sent!!! We took ou Maltese dog due to her limping from her right rear leg. The vet took X-rays and was able to determine the root cause of her limping. The vet explained why our dog was limping and what needed to be done to fix it. The surgery cost was very reasonable compared to other vet hospitals. We decided to proceed with the recommended surgery. The recovery process was also very successful, they saw our dog once per week to see how she was doing and to check on her medication and progress. I want to thank the main Korean veterinarian, who helped guide me through discussing the best treatment plans and options for my late great Dane. He helped me look at the considerations, and was very honest with his prognosis as well as patient with listening to my concerns and overlooking my dog's medical records. Although they did forget to take our a few of my dog's stitches during our last visit, I still felt safe and appreciated their services.
