Whiskey is home safe & sound:)

Dr. Hwang saved my baby's life. My 3-year-old cat became deathly ill on Wednesday evening, and after taking her to an emergency vet and being faced with a $10,000 estimate, we took her home and started researching our options. We found Dr. Hwang, and he was kind enough to call us back at 10 PM after hearing about our situation. He immediately told us to bring her in first thing the next morning. When we arrived, he knew exactly what needed to be done and, more importantly, that it needed to be done quickly. He performed her surgery, and just a couple of hours later, I got the call that my baby was out of surgery and everything had gone well. I have never felt more relief in my life. Everyone at the office was incredibly kind and compassionate throughout the entire experience. Even when our cat was being a little feisty post-op, they were so patient and caring with her. I truly cannot thank Dr. Hwang and his team enough for saving my girl's life. From the late-night phone call to her successful surgery and recovery, we felt like she was in good hands every step of the way. 10/10 experience, and I highly recommend this office to anyone looking for a veterinarian who genuinely cares about their patients.

her healed toe and nail just 10 days later! Thank you Dr. Hwang!

Dr. Hwang is phenomenal! Our 14-year-old dog somehow got her paw stuck and injured her toe, leaving the nail bent almost 90 degrees from its original position with quite a bit of bleeding. We called Dr. Hwang's office, and the front desk staff was incredibly helpful and recommended that we bring her in. I was trying to rearrange schedules to get our pup in as soon as possible but couldn't make it until the next morning. A few minutes before they stopped taking walk-ins that evening, the front desk actually called me back to let me know they were about to close--just in case we wanted to bring our dog in that same day. That level of thoughtfulness meant so much. We ended up bringing her in the next morning, and everyone was just as friendly and welcoming in person. Dr. Hwang took great care of our dog, calmed our nerves, and clearly explained the injury and treatment plan. He was also very careful with the treatment given her age and followed up with us a few days later to check on how she was doing. We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Hwang and his entire team for the compassion and care they showed our 14-year-old dog. We highly recommend Dr. Hwang and his practice to anyone looking for excellent veterinary care for their pet!

I cannot recommend Downey Animal Hospital enough. After calling multiple veterinarians, we were quoted costs that were simply beyond our means. We were facing a heartbreaking decision: amputate our baby kitten's leg or take on an overwhelming amount of debt to pursue treatment. Our kitten had a dislocated femur and needed surgery. A friend recommended Downey Animal Hospital, and it was the best recommendation we could have received. The veterinarian personally called me back after hours, took the time to review my kitten's case, and explained all of our options honestly and compassionately. We were able to move forward with surgery to repair our kitten's dislocated femur, and throughout the entire process, the staff showed genuine care and concern for his recovery. They never pressured us and were transparent about treatment options and costs. Their kindness, professionalism, and dedication helped us through one of the most stressful situations we've faced as pet owners. It is clear that they truly care about animals and want the best outcome for every patient. We are incredibly grateful for the care our kitten received and highly recommend Downey Animal Hospital to anyone looking for a veterinarian who is compassionate, knowledgeable, and trustworthy.

I brought my cat in a few months ago for a yearly check up and for acne under her chin. when they brought her out after everything, the vet tech told me one of her nails got snagged on something and that she was bleeding a little bit. well when i got home and opened the carrier, there was blood everywhere. i looked at my cats foot and her entire nail had been ripped out. it was way more than a "snag" like the tech had told me. (will insert pic) i called furious and demanded to speak with the dr. he said he had checked before sending her home and there was no bleeding. if there was no bleeding, then why did the tech tell me there was? the dr absolutely did not check. i called my friend who works at a vet for advice since mine wasn't being helpful at all and she recommended i buy smth OTC so i rushed to petco to buy it. the next day, my cat was in tremendous pain, she was shaking all over and lethargic. i called the drs office because this is not okay. i demanded some sort of pain relief for her and then and only then did the dr offer to send pain rx TO CHEWY! do you know how long that would take to get it shipped when my cat needs it now? I said she needs it now. The dr said their office is closed but will make an exception and I can pick up pain meds at the office. wow, so kind. also, the dr never told me the medicine needed to be refrigerated so i gave my cat bad medicine for a couple days without knowing and had to go back to pick up more. overall, would not recommend. if they were truthful from the beginning, I might've been more understanding, but everyone, including the dr tried to cover their own butts, take no responsibility and didn't try to fix the situation until I kept calling. PLEASE don't ever bring your pets here if you care about them because Grace Animal Hospital does not. PS. they give you incentive to leave a good review after your first visit, hence why my first review is what it was.

I'm leaving this review after my senior dachshund Roxy was cared for by Dr. Whang and staff since 2024. Roxy recently passed away this Sunday at 17 years old and I thank Dr. Whang for helping me extend her life this long. He always listened with compassion and understood when finances were a barrier. He always helped find a solution to make sure she was taken care of. You were the best vet ever and I just wanted to say thank you for treating Roxy with such good care and love. Please don't hesitate to have your animals in this facilities care. Thank you all so much for your years of great service. Thank you for helping give Roxy an amazing quality of life.

This is just the amount paid for his labs, X-rays and bloodwork (no complaint with this amount)

I have waited some time to write this review to allow my initial frustration to settle down. I want to be fair and clear and share my unpleasant experience. I brought my dog, Gansito, to Grace Animal Hospital on 10/20/25. I was initially quoted approximately $1,300 for his exams, bloodwork and xrays. After that was completed, I was informed that he would be needing surgery for bladder stone removal. The office staff came into the room and on their tablet/ipad showed me the breakdown of the cost of his surgery. which was about $3,800 which was paid in full. Once i paid that amount, i was handed a receipt and was told they would be starting his surgery soon and they would call and updated me, I proceeded to go back home. About 30 minutes later i received a call from Grace Animal Hospital saying that I had been undercharged and that I now owed an additional $2,000. I was in shock; I had just paid a little over $3,800. By that point my dog had already been left at their office to undergo surgery. I felt like I was being held emotionally hostage knowing my pet needed care but suddenly being told i had to pay thousands more at the very last minute. How did the price go up in the amount of time it took me to get back home? I was told it was a mistake and the surgery itself was not $2,000, it was $4,000. I will be clear and say the veterinarian was kind and compassionate and i have no complaints about the actual medical care. But this kind of billing error and lack of transparency is completely unacceptable. If a mistake of this magnitude was made on their end, I do believe the clinic should have absorbed the cost or at least worked a payment plan with me instead of just placing that burden on the pet owner after the fact. I really hope Grace Animal Hospital takes steps to fix their billing practices. Pet owners should never be placed in situations where their love for their animal is exploited through poor communication and sudden financial surprises.

10 out of 10! Thanks to Dr. Huang, my cat , Meow Meow, had wrist bone subluxation and was fixed. He was not able to walk for two months. Once he was given the diagnosis and confirmed that he needed surgery, I was asking around to find a proper clinic to treat him. Dr. Huang was so so patient during consultation. He gave me a lot of time to explain what happened to his bone, what he will do to meow meow's wrist and what will happen post surgery. They were very supportive throughout the process. I was an anxious pet mama, with his team, meow meow's wrist was recovered properly. Now he is walking, running, jumping like nothing happened. I can't thank Dr. Huang enough!

After nearly 18 years of taking my dogs to another veterinary hospital (Washington Blvd. Animal…read moreHospital in Whittier), I finally reached my limit with the declining level of service and decided to seek a second opinion for my dog, who had been sick for over a month with no answers. I am so glad I found Lakewood Pet Vet. From beginning to end, the experience was completely different. They were able to get two of my dogs in for appointments the very next day, and the level of care, attention, and compassion we received was outstanding. Amanda at the front desk was sweet, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful. Sylvia, who handled their intake and vitals, was equally kind and caring and took the time to be very detailed. Dr. Dang was wonderful--thorough, knowledgeable, gentle, and tender with my dogs. What really blew me away was that Dr. Dang's initial diagnosis was right on target even before all of the lab results came back. She immediately began treating my dog for a deep ear infection, a UTI, and both yeast and bacterial infections on her paws. After FOUR visits to our longtime vet in ONE MONTH and repeatedly being told they couldn't find anything wrong, finding out that my dog actually had several issues requiring treatment was astonishing and incredibly upsetting. The follow-up care has been just as impressive. I received a call that same evening to check on how my dogs were doing. Dr. Kai, who was on duty, also called to personally go over the test results and check on them. Then, to my surprise, Amanda called again later that afternoon to follow up. When I told her one of my dogs was still showing signs of distress, she immediately relayed that information to the veterinarian on call, who later contacted me with additional recommendations. This is what veterinary care should feel like. Lakewood Pet Vet has truly exceeded my expectations. My dogs are still ill, and it's only been two days since treatment began, so we're not out of the woods yet. But after spending more than a month searching for answers, simply knowing that their problems have finally been identified and are actually being treated has given me tremendous peace of mind. For the first time in weeks, I feel hopeful that we're moving in the right direction. Crossing my fingers that my babies continue to improve! Thank you to Amanda, Sylvia, Dr. Dang, Dr. Kai, and everyone at Lakewood Pet Vet for making us feel like my dogs' health genuinely matters.

Dr. Lee was very considerate in going over our decision, taking the time to give us the step by step actions for the procedure. It's super easy to use, and once you fill it out, it gives you an estimated wait time and even shows your place in line. One issue with this clinic is the wait time. Since they don't take appointments, I understand that some waiting is expected, but the wait is consistently ridiculous. When you join the waitlist it's usually about a 4+ hour wait depending on what time of day you come in, on top of that, waiting in the exam room for the doctor to come in and when they take your pet to the back. Almost every part of the visit seems to take forever, I recently came in for my cat at 12pm and spent about 3 hours there for some diarrhea. My biggest concern I have is how much they try to upsell additional tests and services. It feels like they purposefully recommend expensive things that don't seem necessary for the issue you originally came in for. For example, I brought my cat in for a hotspot on his paw and was told they wanted to do an X-ray, which I did not feel was necessary for what was going on. I used to volunteer at a vet clinic and go to school to become a veterinarian, so animal care and medicine is not new to me. However, someone without that experience might feel pressured to agree to all of these unnecessary tests because they want to do everything they can for their pet. Also money is not an issue since my cats have insurance, another expample is that they tried quoting me for an xray&ultrasound for my cat that has diarrhea (no other symptoms), only to find out from the fecal test that he has an infection. And then after I already paid they tried calling me to run more unnecessary tests even though they saw in his blood test results that his levels were perfectly fine. They also took forever to approve my cats medicine on Chewy for said diarrhea when he was feeling so sick, probably because they weren't getting the money for it so they didn't want to approve it The staff is pretty nice though, maybe one or two can catch some attitude here and there, but the new Doctor Hyeonji Seo seems very knowledgeable about animal medicine and doesn't try to upsell additional tests to scam clients so hopefully she sticks around for a while to help these other pets.
