I paid extra to have the walls of the closet patched and textured in addition to the ceiling scrapped of "popcorn". I called Dana, the owner, several times after I arrived home to inspect his work. The work that was done was good but was not complete. One wall was not repaired nor textured. He was willing to give me back 25% of my money but would not send his man back to finish because it cost him "too much". Then, if I contacted another drywall company the 25% he said he would return to me would not even come close to covering the minimum the other drywall companies quoted me to finish the job. Think twice about contracting with this company. Btw, isn't it strange that Dana only responds to the apparent "wrong companies"??? 5/31/18 UPDATE: I just received a check from Dana in the mail covering 50% of the total payment I made to him with his apology, however, If I want to contract with another drywall contractor the money returned to me from Dana still puts me far short of minimum money needed. I grew up in the construction industry, so the drywall craft is second nature. I recently called "Above It Drywall" to do some work in my house because the job was just too BIG for me to handle. I got their number through an advertisement in the mail (one of those pesky postcards). Best of all, they are licensed (890858) unlike those other flyers that you get. If you are one of those that just tosses them out, you are doing yourself a big dis-service when it comes to drywall repair. Being a firm believer of getting three proposals, I got four in this case. "Above It Drywall" wasn't the cheapest; however, they were the only company that knew how to do skip trowel finish on my ceiling. Skip trowel is a forgotten art. I was very impressed that when the crew, they took time to tape off my wood/carpeted floors so that they wouldn't get damaged. There was three to four locations that they fixed and they even completed a knockdown texture and made it match the existing. Not bad for texture that was done over 40 years ago. I try to call "Above It Drywall" for all of my remodel work. However, like any good contractor they stay busy. So if your schedule allows, give them a few days notice. I called Dana at above it all. Called him for a quote but the actual price charged was lower than the quote because he did not make a home visit just a phone consultation for the quote. I'm super sad because I had such high hopes for this company, as the first crew leader that came out was SUPER nice and seemed to understand EXACTLY what needed to be done. So here's what happen. I had small holes/nix in my walls throughout my home (from nails when hanging things, over a 20+ year period) I also had that ugly popcorned ceiling. So they came out to fix both. I clearly used BRIGHT green painter's tape to mark the different locations around the house that needed to be fixed (where there were holes to be patched). I ALSO, walked with the crew leader around the house and pointed out where I had put all the tape. He made it seem like he understood. The only thing that he said was, "Ok, just so you know, we will probably have to come back another day to do your livingroom ceilings, as they are vaulted and it will take us longer due to all the stuff we will have to set up to reach the top. I just don't think we will be able to the WHOLE house in ONE day." Fine. That's great. Now I'm not one of those crazy people who hovers over people and babysits everything that they do, I trust that they know what they are doing, so I went out to my garage (they had plastic ALL over the house, covering all the furniture and walls so that whenever they removed the popcorn-textured ceiling and re-textured it, they wouldn't ruin the furniture or walls). I came back inside when they were finished and packing up for the day and they told me that they would be back on Tuesday to finish (this was on a Friday), and then left. After they left, I got to really inspect the job that they did, now that all the plastic was taken down off the walls. I was super sad to see that he only covered up the holes in SOME parts of the living room, kitchen and hallway. They completely just didn't do the other parts of the living room, kitchen or bathroom and did NONE of the hole in the bedroom. So I gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe they just didn't have time and would be finishing it all when they came back on Tuesday. Come Tuesday and they show up with a completely different crew, so I walk the house again pointing out EXACTLY what was not finished last time, that needed to be finished this time. You could tell that he was upset that the last crew didn't finish it and that he was left to clean up their mess. So they do their thing and leave (I was at work, so I couldn't check everything before they left). But when I got home, I was FURIOUS to find that they literally just slapped some filler all over the place (in hopes to cover all the holes) and textured the bathroom ceiling without taping off AT ALL, so their was a very noticeable white spot of texture across out cream-colored wall. Lol. Idk if they were hoping that I wouldn't notice or just didn't care. Either way, I did, and I am not at ALL happy about it. I would have covered the holes in the bedroom myself, had I known that they were just going to slap the filler all over the place and hope for the best! My 7-year-old little brother could have done a MUCH better job than this! Also, they never fixed the holes in the kitchen or the living room like promised. $2,000+ for absolutely nothing. You'd be better off filling holes yourself, as obviously it's an inconvenience for them. I feel like they did a shitty job on filling the holes in the bedroom as like a "screw you" because he was upset that he had to do it and that the first crew didn't, like they were supposed to. I hired Dana after 3 painters/ceiling vendors got the job and then DIDN'T SHOW UP. Dana rearranged his schedule in order to make my construction schedule. The only drawback is that he does not take credit card. However, he was flexible and was willing to accept my payment through Google Wallet (even though he admittedly was not accustomed to using this kind of payment technology). Here are the things that Dana did that most other contractors DO NOT DO: 1. Call you back 2. Show up on time 3. Clean up Factor number 2 alone makes this guy worth it. Thank goodness I found Above It All! Had a roof leak that damaged several panels in my coffered ceiling. The drywall panels are smooth drywall. A couple of contractors tried to fix the panels but they left the ceiling with what looked like a bad patch job vs brand new. Dana's team fixed the ceiling and there are now no signs of a prior roof leak. I found his prices to be very reasonable as well. If you have smooth walls or ceiling, give Dana a call. read more

I recently had the boys from above it all out to do some work. They first scraped all the popcorn off my cielings and re textured the cielings and walls. What can I say to top all the previous reviews raving about the work rendered by Above It All except I would rate them higher than 5 stars if it was available. After 22 years of cottage cheese cathedral ceilings we decided it was time to get rid of it and go texture. I had several bids and Dana (the owner) was right in the ballpark of the others but he did bring sample textures for me to chose from, referrals of previous client sand he talked me thru the entire process. Every previous customer that I spoke to raved about the work just like the other reviews on this page. He always answered answered my calls, had great communication and most of all he did not give a high pressure pitch which I really appreciated. The crew was very professional masking, moving large pieces of furniture for us and cleaning up each and every day. They checked in when they arrived, let me know when they were leaving at days end and communicated what time they would be back the next day. It took 3 days to mask, scrap and texture and 3 days to paint. We could not be more pleased! What a joke. We called and got Dana to come out and give us an estimate. He said we needed to redo our complete entry ceiling. We got a bid from the Dana - owner and scheduled the work. He told us he would need extra equipment because we have 20 foot ceilings. Told us he was on Angie's list and gave us references. We checked yelp all good. His workers come to our house, talked in Spanish to each other and walk around pointing and shaking their head. I asked them if there was a problem? They said they don't have the right ladders for the job or a scaffold. I said well can you get them? I am off work and staying home today to get this done. They said the ladders are on another job. They we're going to wait outside until the ladders came. They they tell me they talk to the owner and he said he misquoted the job it will increase by $600! Also I need to reschedule. They said the owner doesn't alwayssay everything on the bids?????? My husband called Dana and reminded him that he came to our house, saw our ceiling and gave us a bid. In good faith we accepted the bid and scheduled the work - he was not cheaply priced either, just seemed to know what needed to be done...obviously not. Dana said he underbid it and he had to increase the bid because it was too low. This is BAIT and SWITCH how unethical!!!!!!! They shouldn't even get one star! I hate hiring contractors. There are so many hack contractors in Southern California it's sickening. I've been in the electrical construction industry for 20 years so I know what good work is and what professionalism is when I see it. Above it All is a great example of an honest and professional contractor. I had 900 square feet of plaster popcorn ceiling smoothed out, skim coated, textured, and painted by these guys and it turned out absolutely gorgeous. The whole process took 2 days. One day of smoothing, coating, and texture. The next painting. They did an amazing job of keeping things clean. For those of you that don't know it's about as dirty of a job as it gets so keeping it as clean as they did was impressive. I'm extremely happy with Dana and his crews work. Thanks guys! I contacted Dana for a quote through Yelp. He was responsive and we set up a meeting. During the walk through I was very specific about what I wanted and Dana went into detail about the process. I was impressed and decided to go with his company. I set up the date and said if you have any availability sooner please let me know. He texted me on a Sunday asking if his guys could start the next day as he had an opening. I informed him I had guest and that it was not possible. He said no problem the 24th was still our start date. I texted him on the 22nd to check in to make sure we were still on for the 24th and he texted me back with excuse after excuse. He said his guys were "sick" from Father's Day and they are behind on jobs and my job might be delayed. I texted back saying please keep me informed as my husband had planned to take time off for this job. Then 5 minutes later Dana texted back that all the sudden he could do my job a day sooner and wanted to come on Tuesday a day earlier. I told him if he could call me as I had a few questions regarding moving furniture. Dana called and started to explain that he actually misquoted me and had no idea how he did that because I wanted a smooth ceiling not textured and it would be approximately $600 more. I explained that's not what we agreed upon and I was very direct and specific on a smooth finish. Then he went on to say that a couple of his guys are really sick with family members hospitalized and they are now behind. So let me get this straight they are able to do my project a day ahead of schedule 5 minutes ago and now they are behind schedule again and my project will be atleast $600 more. This is the most unethical quote and company I have came in contact with. If your guys are really that sick they should not be working first of all as they could spread covid and second of all be honest on your price. I never mislead you with what I wanted. After removing ugly wood paneling from a couple of our walls we were left with lots of glue, peeled paper, uneven and un-textured drywall. After contacting several companies for quotes and recommendations we decided to go with Above It All. I waited two weeks for them to be available, prepped my house for the job, boarded my animals then the crew showed up and within two seconds of walking in the door wanted to charge me extra $$$ (for things THAT WERE INCLUDED IN THE QUOTE), then refused to do the job because some of my house has vaulted ceilings (and I was being charged a "vaulted ceiling fee"-again IT WAS IN THE QUOTE)!!!! When Dana came to my house for the quote I had already had recessed lights installed and therefore had patches in the ceiling that needed to be repaired. I also have some vaulted ceilings. Apparently his crew didn't even bother to look at the details of the job before coming out and Dana didn't bother telling them. I think Dana new there was probably going to be a problem because when I called him that morning he told me he was "even going to pay the crew extra" as an incentive due to the high ceilings. I just bought a house and the first problem I found was some mold underneath the baseboards. WHAT?!?! Apparently there was prior leaks that the prior owners did not dry out properly plus the AC condensation tube was plugged. So I get those fixed, but now I have 30 plus linear feet of flood cut drywall. I called several places and was on a tight schedule. Some people said they didn't have the time, others gave me really high quotes. Dana asked for some photos I sent and he called me later to discuss. With ever company I talked to, i told them my main concern was the texture matching. I have 70's knock down with a lot of layers of paint. Many seemed a little hesitant. Dana told me exactly how he would do it and guaranteed I would be happy with the results. He was right. I know it would never be perfect, but no one notices the difference. Even if I point it out only some can see it. His pricing is very fair if not on the more reasonable side. Fermin showed up to do the work with his worker. The two of them moved fast and didn't mind that my family and I were working on other parts of the house. They cleaned up and probably left it cleaner than when they came. The only minor gripe I had was drywall should be installed off the floor so if there is a small leak it won't wick up the wall. They let the drywall touch in a few spots.
