I just went to this hospital to get diagnosed for a concussion after a car accident and they didn't even test me for a concussion. after waiting over 3 1/2 hours I was taken back to a shared room where I did not feel as though I was in a comfortable space to share, private, personal medical information and here, everyone else's private personal medical information. The nurses were extremely rude and not educated about concussions whatsoever. They did not listen to any of my concerns and I never even saw a doctor, only a nurse and a nurse practitioner. after 5 1/2 hours I was told to take some ibuprofen and get some rest. read more

I was asked to do a post op class the day before surgery. I thought the class was brilliant and very informative. The RN and Physical Therapist spoke well and explained the surgery in depth. The day of surgery we arrived at 10am with a set time of 12 for surgery. Intake was an easy breezy process. I think that was also do to with the hospital staff and DR Bedi's staff calling ahead and getting as much detail as possible. The staff was very kind, patient and mad nice jokes and kept my resident very comfortable. They asked many times if she had any questions and if she needed anything. DR Bedi was very professional and detailed about the surgery. DR Bedi the Anesthesiologist went over all the medication and history. The PA Sondra was able to answer all the questions we had, and explained the surgery process very well. Surgery started around 3pm that was a little exhausting but I have to say overall it was a great experience. Restrooms were very clean and smelled like someone just took a shower. It was very cold, but what hospital isn't cold? I recommend taking a jacket and wearing socks. I'm glad to see Abrazo Arrowhead so busy and well staffed. Cafeteria had a lot of options including Gluten Free! It was quite enough for me to work while I was waiting. Dr Bedi called me at 5:15 pm while I was still in the cafeteria. Went in for chest pain at 12 midnight. Easy entry and quick processing. Good care initially by nurses and doctors. Fast forward over 18 hours, I am admitted and still dont have a room. Stuck in ER. No room. No Sleep.Mediocre food if you can get it. Still not sure if or when I might get a room. I will definitely consider other options when needed in the future. Last 2 hospitals have been mediocre at best. If you find a good one, Keep it. St Joseph's and The Core Institute Hospital are the best I've found. read more

Do not choose this hospital if you want compassion and people who really care. The nurses are unprofessional and uncaring, impersonal and rude. My mother's IV was unplugged for who knows how long, more than once, there was blood on the sheets and her gown, the nurse lied and said it was just a little bit of blood. In addition, she had hip surgery, was placed in a chair, with no one to assist but my sister who is not strong enough to hold my mother from falling. The nurse said my sister would be the responsible person in the room to help my mother. We will never go back to this hospital. read more

Five stars for this ER visit on 12/26/18 from the cleanliness of the facility to the professional staff. This is a busy time of year for Emergency Departments, yet, everyone from the triage nurse Jess to the X-Ray tech Amy was smiling and helpful. They dialed back our stress levels with their kindness and attitude. Thank you to RNs Micale and Justin who were professional, yet engaging and spoke to us and not over us. I would like to state beforehand that my mother is immune compromised and just recently underwent surgery. Came to Abrazo for my mother who was experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath. Luckily, she was pre-admitted via the urgent care she sought help from before hand, so waiting wasn't an issue. However, while my mother was in the back I overheard several patients complaining how they have been there waiting for almost 8 hours. I felt for those families as one woman who had been waiting far longer than us was in very visible pain. In the meantime, our experience was just as abysmal as a RN named Kristen S performed her duty under not necessarily hygienic means. First, she entered our room putting on nothing more than hand sanitizer to draw ANOTHER 4 vials of blood because she did not read the chart detailing it was already done and we were just waiting for the results of the previous round. When she went to draw the blood my mother stopped her and asked her to put on gloves. I have not been to any medical facility where they have gone without wearing gloves to draw blood from any patient, blood is literally a biohazard material and we are also still suffering from a pandemic. Hygiene in this area is to be expected. Nonetheless, she continues to take the additional 4 vials--putting it at 8 in total--of blood. My mother asked if she would get charged twice for this and the nurse replied "no, if anything these will just get thrown away". The second interaction we have with Kristen S was, again, involving another injection of antibiotics and an anti inflammatory. My mother politely had to ask her AGAIN if she could wear gloves, and was met with this response: "You know, we administer injections every day without gloves." I feel that if a patient expresses hesitancy about hygiene towards a medical professional that they wouldn't hesitate to oblige. Again, its something as simple as gloves. Instead, my mother received a snide comment. Now, the nurse that drew blood from a separate woman who shared a room with us--which I'm also concerned with--wore gloves. The nurse that drew the first round of blood from my mother wore gloves. There was no issue with any other nurse as far as the eye could perceive. Even the guy who was wheeling people around was wearing gloves. I don't think someone who works in the medical field shouldn't be making snide comments about wearing gloves when its a hygienic necessity, especially around needles and blood. OH! And not once did we see her wash her hands, it seemed like hand sanitizer was her main source of cleanliness. read more

This hospital was a God sent. I was very nervous to be sent here to be on hospital bed rest with my twin babies after reading the reviews. But let me tell you, this was the most amazing hospital experience I've ever had. (And I am very picky) I had my twin babies at 32 weeks and they were in nicu for 19 days after birth. The labor and delivery and triage nurses are just such wonderful loving people. Erin in triage helped to calm my nerves and truly cared about my comfort, she took every concern I had and took me seriously and truly cared. All of the nurses I had in labor and delivery were absolutely amazing. They made sure I was comfortable and kept me updated with everything going on. ( I had preeclampsia ) no matter how many questions I had or how many times I called them in to help me use the restroom or get me water they always had the biggest smile and were eager to help. You could tell they just loved their job. Now what I loved the most about this hospital was the NICU. Those nurses truly love their jobs and it shows. They were nurses to my babies and therapists for me. Having NICU babies is scary for any mom, but these nurses made my nicu stay very enjoyable. Every nurse always took a little time out of their shift to sit and talk with me. They would ask me about my situation, how I'm doing, ask about my life, my interests, etc. I created some very strong bonds with these nurse and it made it so much easier when I was discharged and had to leave my babies with these amazing people. I would like to thank Elizabeth, cyndi, Jill, Linda, Amanda, Heidi, Sharon, and Aja for everything you did to help me and my babies. This is one great hospital!!! read more

I recently came to the ER at the request of my gastroenterologist after she determined from a HIDASCAN I had a serious blockage in my gallbladder. I was patient while I waited to be roomed even though I was in extreme pain. After 2 hours I was finally given a bed. My dr had told me to see what a surgeon had to say about my blockage- she was concerned my gallbladder could perforate. Although I voiced this to the nurse, a PA with an unprofessional attitude saw me. I stated that I wanted to see a doctor. I was ignored. The PA returned after some tests and informed me that I had a UTI and they were sending me home. I said, "No! Something is wrong with me besides the UTI- I am in terrible pain!" I stated that I wanted an ultrasound done on my gallbladder. She shrugged and said ok. The ultrasound tech was great- professional yet friendly. I again stated that I wanted to see a doctor not just the PA who I felt was very dismissive to me. In a few minutes the PA came back in and said that the ultrasound showed that I have many gallstones and they were releasing me and I should talk to a surgeon next week. NO EXAM WAS EVER DONE BY THE PA. I feel she was uncaring and cold. I returned home at 1 am in terrible pain. The next day my gastro found out I had not been seen by a surgeon let alone not even a doctor at Arrowhead. She was livid and called a wonderful surgeon at Banner DEL Webb while he was performing surgery! He personally called me and apologized because he was in surgery all day and couldn't see me that day. He was kind and concerned about me. Within a few days he had me go to DEL Webb ER and I ended up having a very inflamed gallbladder with many stones and a large stone blocking my duct. He said it could have easily perforated. I want to state that I truly appreciate all of the extra work hospital staff are providing during the Coronavirus, but that doesn't give anyone the right to not listen to a patient in pain with valid concerns. This is also a hard time for patients - we have to be alone in the hospital due to the virus without any family. I had my son at Arrowhead, was treated for a deep vein thrombosis and had surgery for breast cancer in the past. I have raved about Arrowhead over the years but no more. What an awful disappointment. I advise you to consider another ER. I won't be back. read more

Brought my wife in for an Emergency room visit back in 2016 and walked out 3 hours later with $6k bill. That's not the worst part of you can believe that... A YEAR LATER..... I have been calling EVERY month to their billing department to try and rectify a mistake on their end and surprisingly agree to their shortcomings every single time. They promise they'll fix it and it never happens. They made a $4k mistake and I caught it... now, I can't get them to fix their mistake. I was recently admitted here for pneumonia. 3 full days in this hospital and it was actually a great experience. Staff and everyone was fabulous. Care was phenomenal even being short staffed. The food is gourmet believe it or not. Highly recommend if you have to be in the hospital. read more

Arrowhead ER is the worst experience I ever had with a hospital. I visited with an injury that required simple x rays and CT . There was one person in the waiting room and yet I waited for 2.5 hours before I was taken back. The simple X-rays and visit took over 5 hours sitting in a hard wheelchair unable to elevate my injury. No ice was offered , we had to ask and they were very put out. The nurses from triage to ER were rude and obviously miserable at their job. They were not busy yet moved at a snails pace and seemed completely disinterested and NEVER took a medical history. To top it off they broke infection control protocols constantly! I would never go back to this place again! They always had a less than stellar reputation but I figured that this was simple.. rule out a fractue., . should be fine.. i was so wrong!!!!! read more

I had my 2nd daughter here today. My overall experience was okay. The admission was kind of bad.(triage for l&d on 7/6) A lot of confusion and words spoken that were maybe spoken out of frustration from them being busy. 7/6-After 3 hours I got into a l&d room for an emergency induction due to high BP. I had nurse Deb for most of the night. She was honestly wonderful. Pleseant and polite and just overall was very on top of everything for the night. Made sure I got my epidural shortly after I asked and super friendly. Come morning around 7:30, is when I got nurse jasmine. She was such a pleasure. It was her first day back after having her own twins and she was just so friendly and a blast to be around. She made my delivery that much better. So a big thank you to her. I delivered at 8:50. And I got handed off to postpartum care. It was a little rocky. My nurse was overall nice. Super friendly. And tried to explain things I guess the best way she knew how. My problem was, she checked my uterus around noon and that was the only time she checked throughout the day. I'm not sure why but I definitely thought it was suppose to be monitored a little closer, at least the bleeding. I guess since I never mentioned being concerned, she just assumed things were fine. I felt as if a lot of my questions were having a hard time being answered and a lot of poor communication or lack of communication took a huge role on my emotional breakdown by 9pm. It's in my chart that I suffer from anxiety and depression. I'm not shy about sharing it cause I know when I get anxious, I have panic attacks. I honestly felt like I was stuck on this floor just to be forgotten about unless I called them saying I needed something. When they switched out nurses for nightshift, the board updater put the wrong page number for my nurse and I tried to call for pain meds and that's when I got set off. I called and she word for word was like "oh well your nurses number is this, and you dialed this instead". And I tried to say it's cause that was written on my board and maybe I was over emotional from being pp but it set me off after my whole experience. Now If you've read this far, I just wanted to go home, like I didn't see the point of being stuck in a small room with my newborn and hubby just to be left there, I'd rather be at home. I felt like because they hadn't checked my uterus since noon, vitals since 4 and now it's 9:30pm, I didn't understand the point of being there. That is until nurse Denise walked in the room. By far the best nurse they have. She saw me crying and didn't make me feel as if it was only because I'm pp. She actually pulled a chair up and asked about my whole experience from start to finish. And listened to my concerns and spoke to them with compassion and understanding. She was professional but also personal and connects well. I explained that my tears were because I was angry, both with my ob office for lack of communication and the off and on experience I've had at the hospital. She definitely turned it around. We sat and chatted for a while. (Sorry to the other patients that needed rounded on as well) and she didn't belittle.my concerns or even bring up ppd or anything like that. She's was overall a true treat and I'm super glad she ended up being my night nurse because she definitely turned the whole experience around. It's soley because of her that I'm giving a 4 review. She's treats you like a human, not just another patient she has to round on. And especially with the pandemic going on, I tried to be patient and understanding of all the staff here, but she acted like I was her only concern at the moment which is exactly what I needed. That being said So my shout outs go to 1)nurse Deb - thank you for a good first night in l&d. 2) nurse jasmine - thank you for a good delivery and good luck with the twins 3) most of all, nurse Denise. Thank you for treating me well and turning my night around. I wish more nurses would be like you and realize that patients aren't familiar with everything going on in the hospital, and taking the time to explain and hear concerns and really make it feel personal, at least to me, meant the world. My name is Philip Hopkins and I had to go through 60 dives at the Abrazo Arrowhead Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy with Terry Werlein. Once in the treatment area, Mr. Werlein had everything set up for you. Your clothes in the changing room. He took your temperature. He took your blood pressure. Checked your sugar. Checked your lungs and if you passed everything then you went into the chamber for 2 hours and he checked on you all while you were in there and when you came out he had to do all your vitals again and he did an exceptional job. If your sugar happened to be low he had applesauce, fruit bars, apple juice, whatever, just so you could keep your sugar correct? I would give him 20 stars if I could. This place is horrible. My wife was in emergency for a couple of days. They were absolutely rude, dishonest, and cold. They completely neglected my very sick wife and did not feed her for 13 hours. They don't tell you anything. If you tell them your wife is bleeding they'll say they'll help and then continue shooting the breeze until you bug them again, and when you ask a second time they condescend to you like you're a needy brat. PLEASE save yourself and go anywhere else. They made the hardest few days of my life exponentially worse. There is much more I could say. read more

I went to Abrazo Arrowhead Hospital to have a minor hernia surgery under the care of AZ Preferred Sugeon, Dr.Villareal. She had put me down as self-pay. I was not. I had Medicare. AZ Preferred refused to do the surgery unless I paid $10,000. They would not explain why. Things got heated so they notifed the hospital to restrain me, which they did for 3 days. No food, no water, no access to my phone or my belongings. I asked to call the police. I ws refused. They threatened to tiea me up if I did not stay in the gurney. (Never admitted, never got a room.) Under the watchful eye of the duty nurse, 4 young patients assaulted me. Now they are charging me $15,000. NEVER USE THEM OR AZ PREFERRED. read more

Just left Labor and delivery (daughter just gave birth) these nurses have the worse bedside manner we have been here since Wednesday left on a Sunday her personal nurses need to learn bed side manners or not to come to work. If you hate being asked a question about being a new mother maybe you need to switch to a different floor. We had 1 person who was friendly the whole time a night nurse named Anna and a CNA who worked the front desk. My daughters delivery nurse was a complete waste. She was too busy walking in and out of the room. NICU was out 4 minutes which was another issue which was fault of the stupid nurse. NICu even yelled at the nurse for the 4 minute wait to he called out. The only wonderful nurses are the NICU they're caring and dont care if you ask questions as a new mother, yet alone a worried new mom. Let's talk about rushing someone out of a room we get different explanations on what is allowed for a "nesting" mom after she is technically discharged let's say my daughter was treated so rudely trying to get the correct answer what she was allowed to do stay more nights or nights the nurse had her in tears. I had to keep my mouth shut as a mother even I was looking for an answer as we were getting different answers. They had the rooms. Onto another subject the lack of nurses I hear the nurses talking how of they work extra shifts (not enough nurses why I dont know?) They get prizes. Still not done the cafeteria doesnt stay open the hours its supposed we went down and it was supposed to be open nope closed even the worker was like I guess I'm not thirsty. Again the next night nope not open. Grubhub can get expensive. Also they no longer take debt cash or Workers ID card who has cash anymore! Arrowhead has gone way downhill. I hate that I leave in Arrowhead Ranch but I will drive the extra few miles to go to either Banner or Honor from now on sorry Arrowhead you lost my business and I will tell my friends and family which I know you really dont care about. My sister came her to deliver my niece 8/23/21 & I accompanied her and it wasn't the best experience! Her doctor was phenomenal and the nurses were great but the charge nurse, Crystal, was absolutely awful to us, other patients, & her fellow nurses! She was being incredibly rude when my sister was feeling anxious & was completely disregarding her concerns. I also went with my sister on a walk prior to her delivery and Crystal was sitting at the nurses desk talking badly about patients and other nurses! It made us feel very unwelcome as that could've been us she was talking badly about! She was talking about how a baby was crying in the room because of "the fish smell" coming from the mom, and talking about how annoying said patient was. She was also talking badly about her fellow nurses when they weren't around. So disrespectful... my sister & I would never choose Abrazo again for labor & delivery. read more

A family member had to visit Abrazo's ER a few days ago. Out of respect for their privacy, I won't post any details of their condition, but we were greeted promptly, immediately triaged, and placed in a room. We were there for about 3 hours while multiple tests were run. We saw two nurses and a PA-C. Everyone was very friendly and put us at ease with jokes and small talk. I was especially impressed by the person sent to talk to us about insurance and billing. My previous experience with such individuals is that they were unhelpful and unfriendly - definitely the worst part of a non-life-threatening ER visit. But this person was polite and caring. She helped us understand the insurance forms and walked us through our payment options. Thank you, Abrazo, for making a terrifying day a little easier!! Edit: Fair warning, avoid the soup in the cafeteria. I have eaten it multiple times and it always upsets my stomach :( read more

My dad had surgery yesterday. The staff that took care of him was amazing. The coordinator Katie, took extra time to explain everything to both of my parents. Doctor Abrams, there are no words. And my dad called me this morning so excited to share that this is the 1st time in nearly 10 years that he has been able to walk without pain in his back, numbness in his legs, and burning. It had me in tears to know that my dad will have a better quality of life because of arrowhead. I got a serious, unstitchable, avulsion laceration on my shin, about 7 inches long, while on vacation in CA. The Emergency Room in Laguna Hills told me what to do till I got home, and said, "START WITH A WOUND CARE SPECIALIST IN 7 days". I called 4 or 5 wound care specialists in my area, and they were all 2 to 3 weeks out as a new patient. A nice woman at Banner told me to try Abrazo in Glendale, and that they were known to be very good. The receptionist/office manager/patient care scheduler, what ever you want to call Bonnie at the front desk, saved my fanny. She was the only person who understood that I could not wait 2 to 3 weeks to be seen. SHE GOT ME IN THE NEXT MORNING!!!!!!! They were all so very good to me and so knowledgeable. Everybody knew their job and what to do. They were all very confident and friendly, and did their work so professionally, every single visit!!! I was there for 7 weeks, and they all became like family to me. I am so impressed with the healing and the scar size and appearance. I thought it would be so much worse. I had my endo surgery done here, they took really good care of me. The wait time was unnecessarily long, not sure why they make you arrive 2 hours before they'll even call you up. One of the nurses didn't know the medication she was giving and all the nurses had never heard of my form of birth control. I'm really glad my surgery was smooth, 30 minutes in-out, and I'm delighted they didn't kill me like all these horror stories you hear. read more

please do not go here. they do not care about you or your well-being. i was profusely bleeding (and still am), and they made me wait 5 hours before i could be seen by any professional. They had a PA talk to me when they finally got me back and they basically belittled me and made fun of me. I was crying and in pain and she said in a degrading tone "what is wrong with you why are you crying? i don't know what you expected coming in here" in an extremely unemotional tone of voice and passive/aggressive attitude. and they allowed a medtech (who told me she only had ONE YEAR of experience when i asked how long her experience was) to draw my blood and she made it squirt all over my watch and clothes spilling my blood all over. I've had my blood drawn many times, and I've never had someone randomly make my blood squirt/spill all over me and my belongings. I understand accidents however she blamed it on me, calling me a "bleeder" which was very shocking and offensive to me, as this has never happened before in my life and it was not my fault that this inexperienced med-tech spilled my blood. I was in this ER for 8 HOURS & they didn't do one thing to HELP me. The brunette female PA i spoke to there didn't do ANYTHING but judge me & act in a passive aggressive manner. These "professionals" didn't even ask if i wanted water, and they denied me advil for this unexplainable pain...i don't even take pills because i hate meds, but i ask for ADVIL of all things to help my abdominal pain and they decide it's not important enough. Terrible saddening & shocking experience. This review needs to be passed on to upper management. Fire your passive-aggressive, unempathetic, desensitized staff. I wish i could mess around like them at my job, be a complete A$$ to people, and make a great living like they so effortlessly do. But where's the honor and good in that? Abrazo Arrowhead was as amazing as a hospital experience can be. I was in the ER in the morning and was released but my symptoms got worse and worse and went back around 11 pm. I was fortunate as there weren't many people there but they took me back instantly and I quickly received an IV and medication. My symptoms were pretty severe so they decided to admit me. I was there a total of 7 days and the doctors wouldn't release me until I was ready. I received amazing care, the doctor came in and spoke with me each day and my nurses were absolutely incredible! Adam and Courtney were the most AMAZING nurses and people I have ever met. They always tried to keep me comfortable and were incredibly attentive and always such a pleasure to interact with. If I continue to have health issues I will make sure to go back to Abrazo Arrowhead. read more

If I could give -10 I would. Brought my husband here to the Emergency dept when he was suffering with kidney stones. We walked in and he passed out in the entry way from pain. No one came to our aid. Instead some volunteer pushed a wheelchair towards me (his 100lb wife) and said "Here. You can put him in this". First strike. I finally managed to help him into the chair and wheel him myself into the waiting area. The woman at the check in counter couldn't have been less interested in helping or his condition. Strike 2. I should mention there wasn't a soul around but us. The older gentleman was very adamant that I couldnt stay or be there one more minute . I must leave immediately Bc of covid policy. I said I understand that's fine but I'm trying to help him into the chair as you can plainly see! Since no one else will come to our aid! Finally after waiting about 20 mins my husband called me to say no one is there and he would rather suffer at home alone than spend another minute here. Strike 3. Lastly I would like to add, that as physician myself this is beyond despicable and reprehensible behavior for an "emergency dept". If I had half a mind I would have recorded this interaction and Sued the hell out them which they fully deserve. Very lazy and uncaring. Beware. Don't everrrrrrr step foot in here!!! The AC is out on the 3rd floor and all the patients are MISERABLE! There is literally NO Air flow.. We've tried getting a hold of management and was transferred to someone named Mary and she said I need to speak to another department to file a complaint but the department is closed so we have to try again tomorrow. I asked my nurse and he said it was a 24 hour line so theres no reason why I cant get through. I will NEVER come back to this hospital. I can't believe how careless they are. read more

Some of the ER nursing staff were insensitive towards their patients. One nurse went so far as to make rude comments about one patient's mental health. The lack of respect for human dignity I observed was very disheartening. Not even the courtesy of speaking in a hushed tone. I'm not certain of the exact oath the nurses here took, but I'm certain it contains a promise of some sort to treat patients as humans. The visit I had today was upsetting and undermined any positive aspects I may have had from my experience. read more

The worst hospital we have ever experienced. MIL went in for chest pain 4 weeks ago and again 2 weeks ago, they saw in their system that she had Valley fever a few months ago... Told her that's what it was, go to a specialist, and sent her home. Well... That's not what it was. SHE HAD A HEART ATTACK! Absolutely disgusting that doctors in this hospital do not do their due diligence and administer testing to rule out other things. What a disgrace! Truly lucky they aren't getting sued... Thank God for Banner finding the issue immediately and rushing her into emergency surgery! Go to Banner... This hospital is worthless. read more
