I was very pleased with Absolute Moving Company. Fast and efficient move. I would highly recommend using them.

I chose this company based on their almost 5 star average reviews. However, my experience was pretty average at best. Positives: The guys were friendly, on time, and worked fast and hard. My closing date was postponed and they were flexible about rescheduling. Negatives: None of the stuff from my shed was removed, there were several items left in the attic, the washers from the bolts to my bed were under my bed. and we later discovered the bolts weren't even fully tightened! None of the shelves were put back in the bookcase and were almost left in the truck with the screws to them. Boxes labeled " fragile "had things stacked on top of them. And some of the items that were discussed in the estimate, weren't actually moved. We ended up making 3 or 4 trips in 2 cars to get the stuff left behind. None of these things standing alone would have been that bad, it was a lot of little things. It was the end of the day, and I felt like they were just tired and in a hurry to be done. I did follow up with the manager, who agreed this wasn't optimal, but that was about all he had to say. We used a different company, Southside Moving and Storage to move my fiancée and we were 100 percent satisfied with that experience. read more

Great Service. Had 3 guys come out with a 17 foot truck (which was almost full by the end). I hired mostly for large items only (dressers, beds, couches, washer/dryer, etc). Price did not change from the phone estimate. Despite moving from 3rd floor, they got it done quick. I had everything about 80% broken down before they arrived. New rental was 15 minutes away. Total time for them to get everything down from 3rd floor, fill the truck, drive, and unload was about 2.5 hours. Really efficient. No damage to items. Great job. I would use them again. read more

We were moving from a 5,567 Sq ft house into a 2,100 Sq ft house with 2 storage units down the street. While I had done all I could to determine just how much of the furniture would fit, but there were issues with some of the pieces that had to be removed and taken to storage. Jeff is well versed in how to load in and out. We had 3 trucks! His crew were all very courteous, cheerful and never made any move without the co ordination of the other lifter. It was so precise! I had 3 floors of stairs with some big stuff, antiques, crystal and they never had one misstep. In fact, as they were working, a more senior man was sharing with a newer person the reason for each kind of maneuver. A real science of balance and control. There is another factor worth mentioning, honesty. I was on the main floor and they were upstairs loading up my desk. They took out one of the drawers to pack up and found $200 in cash and brought it to me. The entire day was flawless! 7 hours top to bottom. At the end, I wanted some photos of them with us. We all sat on a loading cart in the storage shed and got a great shot. They texted me later and said that they had so much fun doing our move...and we did have some fun in what can be a stressful time. Thanks, guys! We indeed have some fun! read more

Nothing multiplies the already stressful act of moving more than counting the minutes it takes because each second counts for dollars. Enter: Absolute Moving Company. The owner surprised me by offering to come out to our 4 story condo to give me an actual estimate instead of "ball parking it" based off my amateur description like the other companies I called. He then offered me a FLAT RATE price to do the job from start to finish, with no add-ons like fuel/truck surcharges, etc. The guys showed up ON TIME and were so friendly. When we offered to help they very politely declined, and took GREAT care of our stuff. They disassembled and reassembled all of our furniture without being asked, and were so professional. If you look at my previous reviews on moving companies you'll see my experiences have been horrible. I did a ton of research to find one in the Hampton Roads area that wasn't a mess. Thank God I found Absolute! From start to finish this was a seamless move. The quote was exactly what I paid. The packers were on time and meticulous. The driver was courteous and kept everything moving. I did have a very small damage, but nothing like I've experienced before. In the world of movers it is a dog eat dog business. I had an occasion to need a moving company for a short Chesapeake to va. Beach move. I found absolute moving company. I am retired and told them I needed it on the cheap. I was told the min. was 2 hours. By God they did it, to the min. Wow I have never seen 2 guys move so quick. I mean they did it all in the 2 hours. How do not know but they did. I confronted one of the owners on how many positive votes they got. They were all right. read more

I had used Absolute for a move back in 2018. I could not be happier with that move. I had recommended them to a number of people. My next move in 2020 didn't go so well. The owner was NOT receptive to any feedback and blamed me for "never being happy". So they have gone from a company I recommended to everyone... to one I would ABSOLUTELY NEVER RECOMMEND. The move was one experience, but dealing with the owner was far worse. Follow up to the owner's response: Some business owners would try to correct the situation. Listen to the concerns of their customer. Especially when that customer was a repeat customer. Rick chose to go a different route. Not only attack his customer... but also lie and just not be accurate. The "mansion" as he describes it, isn't even close to 6000 square feet. There are a number of resources he can use to look that up. James City County, Zillow, Realtor.com, etc. And if the house had been 6000 square feet... I NEVER would have complained about the price and the job his team did. His guys worked a 14 hour day. Well they arrived at the house at 9:30am. They left (after throwing a football around my front lawn) around 10:30pm. They took at least an hour lunch. By my math... sounds like a 12 hour work day to me. (Maybe thats where the issue lies... maybe I was charged for a 14 hour day versus a 12 hour day???). There was plenty of breakage. Ironically the ONLY breakage I had was in the boxes that his crew packed. None of the boxes we packed had any breakage. When brought up that.... he asked me to send him pictures. But then he said he didn't charge me for a swing set... "so there's my discount". In reality, I was told if his team had to disassemble and reassemble the swingset... there would be a charge. Well they did not have to do either. There were only two trucks... not three. Yes, one truck did go back to get some things.. But they moved things I asked them not to. And left other things behind they were told to move. I just wish I would have been able to observe them completely during the pack up and unload. Unfortunately, my wife was called away on an emergency and I had to meet with the movers on my own with my 9 mos old. I also had to leave while they were packing to pick up my other two kids from daycare. My mistake was trusting that things would be packed well and moved correctly. The last thing I would suggest for any potential customers.... don't select the hourly rate like I did. There doesn't seem the motivation for his crew to work as effeciently as possible. Maybe thats at the direction of management.....i don't know. At the end of the day. I ended up paying more than what I would have paid, had I gone with the flat rate. Lesson learned! read more

Had to move one more time (December 2021), and once again it was Absolute Moving Company to the rescue. They arrived on time, packed up the furniture, and took the majority to my storage unit before delivering what I was taking with me to my new digs. The guys were great, efficient, and professional. I asked for their help in a very short time frame, and they went out of their way to accommodate my request. I couldn't ask for more and definitely recommend them for your moving needs! Absolute Movers recently did a very complicated move for my husband and I and we could not have been more pleased. We moved from a 5500 sq ft home with furniture going to Richmond, to our office, to an apartment in VA Beach and the rest to storage. It seems like as soon as I had hit send, the owner Rick had responded to me. I was amazed just with that in itself. The pricing is VERY straight forward with nothing hidden or tacked on. I thought they did a really good job. We had a crew of 6 for a full house of furniture and almost 200 boxes to be unloaded from the POD. The move took almost the full day, but everyone was working and the pace was appropriate. They wrapped my TVs and artwork really well. Plus, they were really good with anything I pointed out to them as an antique or especially valuable. Nothing broke, all the boxes more or less in the correct rooms, they were all very polite and a pleasure to work with. Also arrived promptly on time in the morning and after their midday break. Used this moving company as my first moving company ever & man they set the expectation high! I had never used movers because I was always on the first floor, but my new place was on the fourth floor & there was no way I was moving my stuff all the way up there (nor were any of my friends). These guys did an awesome job with moving our stuff. I only hired them to get the "big" stuff, but they grabbed a few other items as well that probably isn't considered big. The gentlemen also saw things that I had forgotten about and asked about them which I really appreciated. Moving can be hectic and stressful, but these guys made it less so. We used Absolute Moving on 12/29/18 to move our 3 bedroom apartment 7 miles down the road to our new home. They arrived on time with a crew of 3 people at 12:30pm. We had everything ready to go and in boxes and some larger items (2 couches, 2 dressers, some tv's, etc..).Now, we lived on the third floor of the apartment complex, which clearly isn't an easy chore to move out of...I understand this. The first hour of moving was not awful. As soon as the master bedroom was finished, things took a turn for the worse. I have never had people ask me if they could use my bathroom so many times..... and I have never had those people stay in the bathroom for 20 minutes each time...after the bathroom break, apparently a 15 minute sit-in session is required in the front seat of the truck to check up on social media. Between "bathroom breaks," and playing on their phones i would say a solid 2 man hours were wasted before the truck was packed. I don't know if Absolute Moving tells their workers its okay to hide in bathrooms and play on their phones or if the movers that showed up had awful diarrhea and were checking IMDB for causes, but I should have charged rent on my bathroom.. After they finally packed the truck, 5 1/2 hours later, and left numerous items in the apartment for me to take the next day, I was told they needed to stop at a 7 Eleven for a 30 minute bathroom break and to get drinks.... fine... whatever... just get to the house and move my stuff when you are done. They arrive at the house and start moving things....slowly. The head of the crew became concerned at 7:30pm (Yes, 7 hours after a 3 bedroom apartment move) that they wouldnt finished and decided to call for another crew to come help. When the other crew arrived, it was clear that we have been given not the B team, not the C team, but the D team. They had everything out of the truck in about 45 minutes and were literally laughing at the crew helping us... we finished with boxes marked ROOM OVER GARAGE in the garage...a DESTROYED muddy carpet in my new home at 8:30... The crew chief was adding up the hours and we told him to take at least 2 hours off, because we weren't going to pay for it. We got the owner on the phone and explained the situation. Even the crew chief of the D team told the owner that they were slacking... nowhere close to worth the money we paid... $1,000 to use my bathroom and play on your phone?! You are better off asking friends to help you move than hire this company. An almost complete joke. read more

I needed only a few items moved. The big stuff. Beds, a big sectional couch, washer and dryer, some large bedroom furniture. You know, the stuff that wouldn't fit in my car. I did a local move from a townhouse to a house about 5 minutes away. Moved across town mid August and Absolute came in with the best price, and even adjusted it when we showed them that we took a LOT of boxes over ourselves prior to the move. The 5 guys who did the move were pleasant, courteous, and they really worked hard. Our only problem was a dining room hutch got scratched, but Absolute sent a woodworker over to fix the scratches, no questions asked. I wish all businesses were like this!!! read more

The condo community would not allow moving trucks on the premises so they had to park outside the gate to unload the moving van. We asked a tall order of Absolute Moving, and they stepped up and performed as true professionals! They were hired to move three homes in Baylake Pines and work with the schedule of two movers on the other sides of the home sales. Jeff personally evaluated the needs of each client, determined the amount of time it would take, quoted competitive prices, shifted personnel to accommodate the needs of the other parties, and ensured that all trucks arrived on time the morning of the big move. Despite the 100+ heat index, the movers were carefully expeditious in loading the furnishings and asked exactly where things went when unloading. I saw the great reviews these guys got. Rick Taylor came out and gave us a very good price to move from a three bedroom third floor apartment into a single family home. The move also included a full 10 x 20 storage unit. The crew was on time and super professional. They worked fast but careful and were punctual. I cannot say enough about this moving company. We moved from Norfolk to Va Beach. I changed our moving date on these poor guys about 3 times due to complications. They were absolutely wonderful, flexible, and understanding. Rick, the owner, came out ahead of time and gave a flat rate quote for moving just large furniture vs. all furniture and boxes. This was the second move I made with my wife since we got married. This was her 6th move as a United Methodist Pastor. She is insistent that this was her best move ever! The crew was courteous and hard working. They seemed to have a very good attitude joking around with each other a bit and never a word of complaining about their work. I contacted 4 moving companies. One gave a price that was about half of this company but said they would come with one small truck and two or three workers. That one small truck wouldn't have held half of what we had to move. We had a previous experience where the movers moved about half and then drove off into the sunset leaving us to move the rest with a U-Haul. There was a large national moving chain that gave us a quote about double the quote we got from Absolute movers which put them out of the running not to mention the fact that they insisted the move could not be completed in one day. (Picked up and delivered the same day.) Absolute movers sent two trucks and 5 workers and did it all in one day. We got one other quote that was $60 less than Absolute. The owner of Absolute said he'd throw in 10 wardrobe boxes at no additional charge, so that was the deciding factor. In the end, everything was moved without one item being broken or damaged. I called Absolute Moving on Easter Sunday and left a voicemail, looking for someone to help me the very following Monday with a few large items I am moving from one house to another one down the street. Despite being a holiday, and a Sunday, I received a call that afternoon and they confirmed that they would have three men and a truck at the time that I needed them the following day, and at a very reasonable rate. They showed up ahead of time, calling me in advance, took great care of our belongings and knocked everything out in a quick and efficient manner. I don't think there's anyway a larger company would have responded so fast, so efficiently, and so competently.
