It was super crowded inside but we registered pretty quickly and they called her right away to counter 5 to take her picture and sign her name on a paper. We waited until about 1:20pm for them to finally call her number to counter 11. The appt process def needs work but these are the pros and the cons to this location. Pros-close to the 2 train, easy for my elderly mother to walk to. Very clean location esp the restrooms, there was even a worker cleaning the bathroom when i was there making sure it stood clean. The staff here is super nice. The nicest I've ever encountered at any dmv location and the main reason i gave it 4 stars. Both ladies working counters 5 & 11 today were so nice to me and my mom and very helpful. My mom wasn't able to get her enhanced id during her renewal due to her name being misspelled and the lady working counter 11 gave us all the info to fix it and come back. She renewed the license for now and told us the price when she fixed everything to upgrade it to the enhanced. She was the sweetest. Cons-long wait Time even with appts, no security walking around the seating areas to ensure safety. There was a crazy guy talking to himself and bullying anyone that stood too close to him for his liking and when he was done he left and pushed a ton of people. Security should walk around observing those seated esp since people get very agitated waiting so long. I would def return due to the customer service alone but will expect to wait even on a Wednesday afternoon

I was damn near almost in tears because it was all just so frustrating and with carrying a baby, im just so glad it all worked out in the end. I had all my forms filled out and documents printed out in advance. After checking in, I was called up in 15 minutes and was out the door in the next 10 minutes. Unfortunately, everything after that was an extremely unpleasant experience. The biggest problem wasn't the DMV process or the paperwork -- it was the absolutely unacceptable attitude of several employees toward visitors. First, the security guard was extremely difficult to understand. English isn't my first language either, so I would never criticize someone simply for their pronunciation or accent. What I absolutely can criticize, however, is the rude and dismissive way visitors are treated. Then I was called to one of the windows. No hello, no goodbye, no basic courtesy whatsoever. The employee acted as if helping customers was an inconvenience and kept having unrelated conversations with coworkers while dealing with me. It felt completely disrespectful and unprofessional. After completing my exams, I was called to another window, and somehow the experience was exactly the same. Several employees were having a loud conversation about personal matters while customers were waiting to be served. Some were eating at their workstations and casually chatting instead of focusing on the people standing in front of them. I understand that DMV employees deal with hundreds of people and that this is not an easy job. But basic professionalism is not an unreasonable expectation. Say hello. Communicate respectfully. Finish helping the customer before starting a personal conversation with five coworkers. At the very least, act like the person standing in front of you deserves basic respect. I rarely leave reviews like this, but the overall attitude at this location was genuinely awful. The actual DMV process was fine. The customer service and professionalism were not. Management seriously needs to address how visitors are treated at this location.

The security guard does a good job keeping things quiet by asking people talking loudly on their phone, or rapping out loud while checking IG on the library computers. I saw a few people on laptops getting annoyed. Remember It's the public library not WeWork, so yeah- expect random public interactions and colorful characters. (In Smyrna, GA years ago, my good friend the librarian orchestrated cooking classes. Free! And fun!) A neighbor told me about the NY Public Library's Culture pass. If you don't have a card, bring proof of residence to your local branch, and get one. If you already have a card, sign up for the Culture Pass. You gain free entree to a host of museums and other venues. While many museums waive admission on designated days, it can be a madhouse. With Culture Pass, you choose the date you want to go, and if passes are available, you're in. They reload options the beginning of each month. Nothing that interested me is available next week, but I'll be back in January and already signed up for the Cooper Hewitt. I noticed that they have passes for other venues like the Wollman Rink. The E. 79th Street library is smaller than some branches, but it fills my need! Know too, that you can borrow books from any branch in the system.
