Decent Mexican food and friendly service in a mom-and-pop shop! Came here for dinner and ordered a beef empanada to start. They accidentally brought us another table's order of 2 veggie empanadas which were good and they only charged us for the one. Then we got chips and guac. The guac was fresh, a bit salty, and the chips also fresh and crispy. I ordered the enchiladas for dinner and got green, red, and mole sauce. I enjoyed their mole and green sauce but didn't care for their red. The beans and rice served on the side were decent. Overall, nice experience and it won't break the bank. Plus, they were very hospitable. Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Ambience: 3/5

    TACOS AL PASTOR PLATE

My tacos al pastor were disappointing. Tacos al pastor for $17.95. 3 street tacos with pork and canned pineapple that I didn't find to be an interesting mix and wouldn't have ordered if I've known from the description that's want it was. Beans were very salty and rice just didn't have a lot of flavor. My partner had the chicharron (pork belly) taco plate and he was pleased with the flavors. He had a similar reaction to the rice and beans. Server was nice and checked on us often.

Had a lovely evening at Abuela's Table tonight! The staff was incredibly attentive and polite -- our waiter brought water over immediately and checked in very regularly. He took care of us very well! The food was delicious! We started with chips and guacamole for an appetizer. The portion was small for anything more than 2 people, but the guacamole was well-made. I had the Chicken Enchiladas with molé sauce. The sauce felt heavy at first, but I quickly realized it complimented the dish very well. I will definitely order this dish again in the future! My friends ordered tacos al pastor and tamales. Both were huge fans of their dishes as well. Highly recommend this JP gem!

One of the best meals we've had in the past few months! We got a reservation at Abuela's table for Fri night. When we reached, it was busy but not too crowded. We wanted to try some of their specialties and unique dishes so we got a few for the table- grasshopper tacos, cactus salad, fried plantains, shrimp tacos, and a side of Mexican rice. Everything was great!! First time trying grasshopper and we were pleasantly surprised. The way they make it, it's very crunchy and the seasoning has a tang to it. The cactus salad was also delicious. The dressing is quite sour, so beware. The shrimp tacos were delicious. It came with a bowl of beans, not sure why, but that paired much better with our side of rice which would've been dry on its own. Fried plantains kinda stole the show because they picked the plantains at the perfect stage, where they were just right in terms of texture and sweetness. Wait staff were attentive and the decor is colorful and cute. We had a nice long relaxing dinner and would love to be back.

This is hands down the best Mexican food I've had in a while. Boston is craving good Mexican places!! I brought my roommate who is Mexican and she loved it too, which is saying something. I had the enchiladas with the green sauce and it was amazing. It had a little bit of a kick but I have 0 spice tolerance and definitely enjoyed it. GET THE HORCHATA! Also the painting/mural on the wall was so cute. The employees were very kind and provided fast service! We had no wait when coming on a weekday at dinner time

We wanted to give this place a try as it's relatively new. We got the Chicken Enchiladas, Flautas de Pollo, Tamales, Elote, and Chicharron Tacos. The Flautas de Pollo were pretty good, albeit the chicken inside was a little dry. The Enchiladas were also good, as was the elote (though the corn was not a juicy or sweet as I typically prefer). The Tamales were decent, though again the meat was a bit dry; if i were to come again, I'd probably opt for the vegetarian ones. The chicharron was cooked really well and was yummy--crispy and juicy, but not tough. The black beans that came with most dishes were well seasoned and tasty. The service was ok, and the ambiance was ok (nothing spectacular, fairly nondescript). They do seem to have a feedback problem with their speaker system, which I noticed almost immediately (but others seemed not to), which was at times a bit annoying. We also got dessert, the churros and chocoflan. The churros were good, but we didn't care for the chocoflan; the flan was not great and the chocolate cake part was dense (but not in a fudgey delicious way). We'd probably pass on dessert if we came back.

I was so sad about the loss of oriental de Cuba (previous restaurant in this location) I put off trying this place for a long time. Boy, do I regret my choices. I went with a group of 6 of us so got to sample many things. Everyone has positive reviews of their plates! I was impressed by the vegetarian options as well. They have a solid brunch menu in addition to the regular options. My favorite things were the tamale sampler and the Mexican coffee! Service was great, answering all of our questions and offering solid recommendations. Will be back to try more things off the menu!

Good service and great food. Got birria tacos here that were a 10/10. Big filling portion as well. My friends tried their other tacos and enjoyed them but they seemed a bit small. It's a nice calm environment to eat.

The name of this place is SPOT ON! this is literally like going to eat to grandma's house - humble, homey, comforting food. Could it be better? Of course. But grandma doesn't have fancy ingredients in her kitchen, she just has love and her food is good. Mini tamales - 5 different flavors, all good, my favorite one being spicy chicken. The sweet corn and coconut ones are very unique. Arrachera Mexicana - the beef in this dish was the best thing I had - so tender, savory, with a touch of lime. On the other hand, the chilaquiles were pretty bland and greasy, not a fan. Elotes - really good! Loved the heavy addition of lime. Tacos al pastor - not the best looking and definitely need onion and cilantro on top, but somehow they were still delicious. One of the best and most authentic things I had (that I would come back to eat over and over again) was the rice and beans. No idea what they put in there but I couldn't stop eating it.

Worst taco Tuesday ever. The tacos are tiny, flavorless and dry. And for $3.50 each! Don't waste your money.

They have lots of good beverage options- my bf Francisco P. & I had horchatas and our dinner companion had a papaya shake. On request, they can prepare the shake with water instead of milk. You can see the female chef in the kitchen preparing the food lovingly by hand. I tried the bean and cheese pupusas, which were very good. Our companion also tried the chicken pupusas, which she said were also very good. We thought they tasted freshly made, to order. I love that the pupusas had the bits of crunchy cheese that form when some cheese leaks out the side. I was also glad to have the red sauce and pickled cabbage for putting on top. Maybe next time I'd order more of that because I love the pickled cabbage, or curtido. My bf had a Salvadoran combo plate- that had a pupusa, a Salvadoran tamale, and a Salvadoran enchilada (which closely resembles a Mexican tostada). I had a taste of the tamale, which had chicken, & which I thought was really flavorful, and different in consistency than a Mexican tamale- softer.

The tortas are excellent. Every component of the torta is so fresh and flavorful. The sandwich itself is filling, which makes the price point ($11-12) even more worth it. I appreciate that they have a large variety of protein options to choose from which I don't usually encounter in Mexican restaurants in the greater Boston area. On top of all this, service is fast! I almost always order lengua when I see it on the menu. The lengua here is tender and nicely seasoned. I wouldn't mind if it was just a tiny bit saltier, but the other torta fillings have enough flavor and seasoning of their own. I haven't been back in a while, but I am curious about their tacos. I hope they fixed the issue with the sewer smell.

Special shoutouts to: chips and guac, pork belly taco, duck birria, green margarita, and churros. One thing about Bartacos that I've come to learn over time: the quality can vary. Sometimes it's a good Bartaco day, sometimes it's an incredible Bartaco day. But I've never had a bad Bartaco day. The service model is quick and efficient. You typically order using the QR code, though I recently noticed they've been offering the physical menus more which feels a lot classier. However, when you order on your phone with the QR, you will get a free taco for your next visit after completing a short survey. Unless you put the blue service card up to indicate you want your server, you probably won't see them much, but it's not an issue, especially with the many food runners they have. The ambiance is very pretty and eclectic with soft lantern lighting. Medium casual dining, not too expensive, very suitable for a first date, probably not a fancy anniversary dinner type of place. TLDR: go to Bartaco. You'll probably love it.
