But the real surprise comes from the sandwiches, where the kitchen leans into creativity with bold, city-style flair. It's the kind of place where you arrive planning to keep things simple and leave wondering why you didn't order one more. Fun, inventive, and undeniably delicious. Come for the meat. Come back for the sandwiches.

Sunday "Father's Day... Worst Restaurant Experience!…read moreMy son and grandson wanted to take me out for a Father's Day lunch and we chose The Chick and the Pig since we never ate there. We got there around 12:30, ordered our food by phone (because there is no wait staff other than a bar tender), pay for the food via phone, and waited a hour only to be told that there was no food left. Customers that came in after us had ordered and ate but not us. Finally my son went up to the kitchen window to ask why we didn't get our food. The kitchen staff told my son "We ran out of food". One would figure that there would have been some type of announcement made instead of leaving us and some other customers hanging but, nobody said a peep. This was the worst experience we've ever had at any restaurant! How can this place even operate without a wait staff and run out of food soon after it opened for the day. It simply was not busy enough to run out of food. Seems to me that the underlying problem is the owner and management. One thing I do know is that I will never go to this restaurant again nor their other restaurant Bold American Fare. Thanks Chick and the Pig for leaving us hungry and for giving us a very bad experience on Father's Day!!

If this is "World Class", then any Carnival experience offering a Smoked Turkey Leg deserves a Michelin Award! The Rib Tips actually grossed me out! But the ribs were decidedly lacking. Thin meat on the bones and overcooked. It was tasty but for the price the amount of actual meat on those bones felt stingy. I could go to a sit-down place for roughly the same price and get something at least as good. The person in the truck was nice and friendly. I'm definitely going to try it again. I hear good things about the rib tips and maybe I should give those a try. I'll find a bunch of lower-priced foods and try a large smattering instead of putting all my eggs in one basket. Maybe that trip will be better. For now, though, it's not a priority.

For the hand-cut meats, we tried the brisket and pulled pork. Both were incredibly tender, smoky, and practically melted in your mouth. We also ordered the cornbread and mac and cheese, and both were standout sides. The cornbread was huge, dense, and still perfectly moist. I was a little worried the mac and cheese would be too spicy because of the Hot Cheetos, but it actually had just the right amount of kick. The combination of creamy mac and crunchy Cheetos made it extra flavorful. To finish the meal, we shared a burger, and wow , it was juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. You do have to order at the counter, but the staff was super friendly and helpful. They gave us great recommendations on which meats to try, which made the experience even better.

I will always have fond memories of eating a ton of hot dog lunches here. It occurred during my 'serious' working life at Jensen Sound Labs in nearby Schiller Park. Back in the day, Gene & Jude's was a teensey tiny, stand-and-eat-over-a-counter-french-fries-stuffed-into-your-snappy-Vienna-Beef-dog kinda place. It still has a devoted cult following. As it is with all good things, the restaurant has only become bigger and better! Gene & Jude's has such a wonderful location near and around many office buildings that house large companies. And a forest preserve nearby. Today, the same hot dog and fries combo I ate back in the day is still a great value for struggling sound mixers and speaker-based Motorola employees and of course, all the other working class. The snappy Vienna Beef Dog with the only condiments, consisting of yellow mustard, green relish, onions, and sport peppers, then smothered and covered in fries, "Depression style", is currently priced at $4.69! You need to visit this icon if you're ever in the Northwest Chicago area suburbs. You won't regret it.

Before we left I checked the website and saw that they were a cash only business. No problem except we took the 30 minute ride and when we arrived I realized I forgot my wallet at home. Fortunately for us it was a nearby Walgreens where we could get cash. My wife had her wallet so I zelled money to her. Once we got back we then saw that they do in fact take debit/ credit cards. Anywho. It was a no frills place very basic aesthetic nothing special to look at. Just a service counter where you can see them preparing the hot dogs. They do however have a steady line of people! They move the line very fast so you're not waiting long at all. We ordered 3 hot dogs with everything (mustard, onions, relish & sport peppers) the basic depression hot dog. They come with fresh cut fries & we got a fountain Cherry Coke to share. I spent $20 even with tip. The hot dogs were good i wasn't disappointed nice soft bun tasty condiments and a great snap to the hot dogs. I'll give it a 7/10. The fries had a decent amount of salt on them a bit oily and not too crispy but they were fair. They don't have any ketchup in the house. We keep tobacco in the SUV so I added some to the fries for a little bit. Without the tobacco the fries were still tasty. A solid 6.5/10. The service was good. Young people with good customer service. I loved it. 10/10 for service. All in all if I'm in the mood for a drive and a hot dogs I'll go back. If you're in the area and like hot dogs check them out. They also sell tamales. ( I didn't order one) 7.3/10..... all in all. It's really more like 3 1/2 stars! Remember Yelpers ALL reviews are subjective!

We had a coupon for a free appetizer (we ordered the potato skins) that was about to expire so we decided to give this location a try. We have been to the one in Bloomingdale, but haven't been here. While we were in the car we used the waitlist option and the app said that there was a 20 minute wait. Once we got inside there was actually only a 5 minute wait. The restaurant is huge and literally every table was full but because the restaurant is so huge there is always a party on the way out so the flow of traffic was nice and steady. I ordered the herb chicken breast, the waitress asked if I wanted it smothered in mushrooms and grilled onions and of course I said yes. She did not mention that it was an up-charge... I should have asked however the amount added to my plate was well worth the $2.99 up-charge. I picked the house salad and veggies because I knew my carbs were going to be coming from the two delicious rolls and butter I was planning on eating while waiting for my order to be cooked. My husband ordered a 9oz steak with a house salad and corn and wanted it cooked medium rare... it came out really rare. It was delicious but way too chewy and hard to eat. He was disappointed but did not want to send it back because he was hungry and ready to dig in. The atmosphere is fun, there were at least three tables nearby that were celebrating birthdays. They sing a song and it is really uplifting and fun to hear! If you're looking for a restaurant with great food to celebrate a birthday or other important day... or even if you're not celebrating anything special, come out and give this restaurant a try! I cannot believe it took us so long to give this place a try! I was avoiding it because I thought the prices were going to be very high, and it is actually affordable and within what I consider a good value!

Not sure why they only get three stars. Their food is consistently good. I've never had a bad meal.read more
