We were running errands today and we loved the Abuelo's in OKC so we stopped in for lunch. We were seated quickly and our waitress Jessica was awesome. We got the chips and queso and she brought several baskets of chips, flour tortillas and the trios of salsas. It was all delish. Our food came quickly and was hot and fresh. We got enchiladas, quesadillas, and the tortilla soup. The soup was personally not my fave. It wasn't super flavorful and the warm avocado wasn't my thing but the enchiladas were very good and my daughter loved the quesadillas and cilantro rice. Definitely a good Tex mex spot! read more

I love this place until last night. We were seated right away. Then another couple came in and were seated & the hostess went to get their waitress. Sat there waiting while the other couple got their chips and drinks. Looked around a bit confused. So I looked at the time to see what time we sat down. I had sent a text as soon as we were seated. It had been 16 minutes and they were not busy. I went up to the hostess to ask if there was a problem since the couple who was seated after us had chips & drinks already. She looked confused then finally realized what I was saying. She said she would look for our server. What she didn't see was the waitress on her way to the restroom as she passed me on my way to the hostess stand. She went around looking for her. When she couldn't find her she just went back to the hostess stand instead of coming to tell us. She couldn't locate her so she should've got the manager to take our drink order or even bring us chips. Very very unprofessional. So we sat there another 5 minutes until the waitress came out of the restroom. The waitress was nice but wasn't even aware she had a new table because again the hostess never told her. We ordered our food. I've ordered this dish many times when I want leftovers for lunch the next 2 days. It was the grande. It's one of my favorite dishes because you get a little bit of everything. My mom ordered sour cream chicken enchiladas like she has so many times before. We were so disappointed. The sour cream enchiladas tasted like bland chicken. What happened to the sour cream sauce? It tasted like they forgot how to make the sauce all together. Then I tried my taco. It was good but how can you really mess that up. The chimichanga was pretty good with the cheese sauce on it that I tried. Next, I tried the beef enchiladas. Omg, why was there so much chili powder in the sauce. It was terrible becausethat's all you could taste. We were done by then. My mom didn't want to send it back because she was afraid they would send out something worse. I told her I would buy us a desert to share. We got the tres Leche cheesecake. That was one of the best cheesecakes I've ever had. It kinda made up for the food not being up to par. We let my husband try the food and he was mad we didn't send it back. He thought it was awful to. The only leftovers I kept were the chimichanga. My mom said she's going to stick with Angelina's. We went on a Saturday night without reservation and did not have to wait for a table. The ambiance us very nice, colorful and has good energy. Service was very good. As for food, I liked all the three salsas they served with the chips. They had a nice variety of flavor and spice level, the smokey spicy one was my fav. My green chile quesadilla with chucken was tasty, the guac that came with it was fresh. My partner was however disappoibted with the veggie quesadillas. First of all, it was not grilled, it looked like stuff between two tortillas was microwaved with cheese on top. The veggies inside were very chunky, undercooked and did not seem grilled or seasoned. We decided to check this place out, we saw pretty good reviews on Google. We were seated and served chips & salsa...not just one but three different kinds. We devoured every last drop of the salsas. They were definitely really good. My mom got the Tortilla Soup, and she loved it! She practically finished the entire bowl. My aunt some kinda of plate with tamales, and she also finished it as well. For the table, we ordered the Steaks Nachos Grande, and it was not a disappointment. The steak was tender and flavorful, and the toppings were plentiful. My brother got the Ground Beef Tacos, and he was pretty much fun from he appetizers he had to take the rest home but overall he said it was a good meal. Simple tacos. My husband got the Steak Fajitas Tacos, he said they were decent, and it just reminded him of Chuy's. He's not a big fan of Tex-Mex, so he was a hard critic. I ordered the Sangria Swirl to drink, and it was so good!! I had to share with my brother because it was huge, and I knew I wouldn't be able to finish it myself. For my meal, I got the Juarez plate. I was pleasantly surprised that the food at this location was really good. I do not like the Plano location and steer clear any time someone asks me to go there. This was a work meeting lunch so I really had no choice. Again, pleasantly surprised! The only reason I take off one star is because the guacamole was seasoned with nothing at all and the queso was pretty bland. The three salsas that are complimentary were really good. The green salsa was my favorite. They also serve fresh chicharrones with the queso and guacamole appetizer. Yum!! Our server was a little bit of a helicopter. It's a little annoying when your in the middle of talking about something and your server keeps coming back multiple times and talking over you when you have said 5 times already that you are good. It's choice tenderloin medallions wrapped with bacon; fire grill served with shrimp; stuffed with jalapeños & cheese, wrap with bacon... along with their special mashed potatoes and Charro beans. When done right, it's outstanding! We absolutely love their salsa, just the right amount of everything! Enough of a bite to keep me happy, yet mild enough to make my wife happy. Chips are always fresh and crispy... chips are the thin kind. The service has been hit or miss, more missed than hit! At least that's been our experience. Main reason it's not one of our regular stops. We loved the Lewisville location, but it was closed when the road was widened. Service today was good, but not great, as compared to menu prices and atmosphere. The atmosphere is modern Mexican, a little too commercial for my taste. However, it is very clean and well kept. We came on Saturday evening after 6:30pm and it was busy but thankfully, we didn't have to wait for a party of 4. Cameron was our server and extremely attentive and friendly. Ordered the guacamole as an appetizer and it was delicious with their thin and crispy chips. Love their chips!!!! My husband ordered the beef enchiladas with sour cream sauce, rice, and beans. This is a true story! Last night, my Wife and I went out to see some Christmas light displays. But before that, wanted to have some dinner. We stopped at Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant (The Colony, TX). They were not busy, with only about 1/4 of the space filled. We were seated immediately. We waited for about five minutes before someone came over to take our drink order. (Just water, Thanks.) It was another five minutes before the water showed up and then a few minutes after that the obligatory chips and salsa showed up, and we placed our order. After about 15 minutes, the food showed up. It looked and smelled good. But the order wasn't complete, so I waited for our server to come around so I could ask for the rest of the food. She didn't show up and my incomplete order was starting to get cold. So my Wife flagged down a passing employee to ask a simple question, and she was told IN ALMOST PERFECT ENGLISH "I only speak Spanish. I will get a Manager." I got up from the table myself and walked towards the kitchen area. All I wanted was the rest of our order. I asked the bartender standing nearby for help. He asked who my server was, and I responded with "I don't know her name, but we are sitting underneath that tree." and pointed to our table. He then said "well was it ... " and he named off a couple of names. I repeated that I did not know her name, but that we saw her go into the kitchen. This went on for a few minutes more. Finally I said "Forget it. I am leaving and will not pay for this." And so we did. I will NOT go back to Abuelo's in the Colony again! read more

I have always loved coming to this restaurant. The atmosphere is great. The servers and bartenders are all very friendly. I went there on Monday night for dinner and ordered the sea bass and El Jefe Margarita! Everything was delicious! They give you three different types of salsa and I love their thin chips. The bartender even offered Togo water with lemon. The only reason I do not give them 5 stars is that their prices are steep. I definitely liked the queso they had with the chips. Chips were nice and thick. My style versus what my gf likes. She's a die hard Chuy's fan. She had a bowl of chicken tortilla soup. She rates it much lower than i. I loved the way it tasted. It had enough meat, but not too much. Tortilla chips were good and the flavor was insanely good. In addition, we had the taco's which I'm a big fan of. Probably voted in my top 3 tacos in the Dallas area. Rockfish is right up there for me too. Service was good and punctual. No issues here. Probably the one dinger for stars would be the comparison of my review vs my gf. She would rate it a 3, I would view it close to a 5. (Food flavor was spot on). She thought it needed more substance. I'll start off by saying the food overall was good but the pick up experience from DoorDash was horrible. I have been going to Abuelo's since they were located off tollway in Plano and the service then was excellent. The food was delayed considerably. After pick up and returning home I discovered we were missing two items. I had to drive back and they then forgot to add chips which came with the items.
