10/10 Brunch Experience! I had brunch at Mexican Sugar my personal favorite spots n dallas - went to the Plano on a Sunday, and everything was absolutely phenomenal! From the food to the atmosphere to the customer service, this was easily a 10/10 experience. I ordered the quesadillas, and when I say DELICIOUS, DELICIOUS, DELICIOUS! They were flavorful, fresh, perfectly prepared, and honestly one of those meals you're still thinking about after you leave. I highly recommend trying them! The customer service was also 10/10. My bartender/server was B (that's what they call her), and she was such a sweetheart. She was friendly, attentive, welcoming, and made sure I had everything I needed without making me feel rushed. Great service can completely elevate a dining experience, and B definitely did that. The Sunday brunch atmosphere was lively but still comfortable, making it a great spot whether you're meeting friends, having a girls' brunch, enjoying a date, or even treating yourself to a solo brunch. Overall: 10/10 across the board. Great food, beautiful atmosphere, and phenomenal service. Mexican Sugar Plano definitely gets my recommendation, and I will absolutely be back! I was in town for work and knew that we had to stop by Mexican sugar for dinner. We arrived around 6 o'clock and it was definitely busy. Because they are so large, they have multiple private rooms. It felt like on this particular night every private room had large corporate parties going on. There was absolutely a lot of noise so it was very hard to hear any of the conversation that was happening at our table. The loud music didn't help either. We started with chips and salsa, which is our favorite, but the salsa definitely had a lot of spice to it this night. We also got an order of guacamole, which was really good. I got the salmon. I know that sounds odd to order at a Mexican restaurant, but when I ask our server what her favorite item on the menu was, she didn't even hesitate and pointed to the salmon. It was so good! I love that they have a grill hot enough to get the grill marks on it and give it a little bit of that crisp on both sides. It also comes in a nice bed of corn and zucchini with a little sauce on it. Here's the skinny: Haven't been back here in a while, decided to take the Mrs. for brunch today and boy did it NOT DISAPPOINT! Firstly they've updated their menu and added these cinnamon churro donuts, do yourself and kids (if you have them) a favor and get these!!!! 10/10 *secret menu hack if you're like me I don't really like caramel so ask them for berries and whip cream sauce to go with them, elite!!!! The other appetizer we get are the arepas. 10/10 flavor and presentation (slow cooked beef over mini corn tortillas with the typical veggie toppings of lettuce etc. Man that beef is good!) Entrees: So I typically always get the brunch tacos, but today I kept smelling the smoke from the grill and decided to ask if I could add carne asada to my brunch tacos and man that took these tacos to a whole other level! Simply amazing! 11/10 Wife's dish: Chicken tacos 8/10 here's the truth on these. The flavor is GREAT, AMAZING even, however the chick is in chunks vs shredded or sliced and also, the chick can and will dry out due to them using real chicken breasts instead of chicken thighs (thighs are juicier due to where the meat comes from on the chicken and the fat content) comes with black beans and cilantro rice. *SN the tacos come with Tajin seasoned fruit. 7/10 this is comes with watermelon, pineapple, mango or cantaloupe. First time coming to Mexican sugar for dinner and for the most part it was great! Only caveat was our waiter was very hard to get a hold of during the entirety of service. First time at mexican sugar and it was amazing! We didn't have a reservation so we waited a good 20-25 minutes on a sunday night around 6 pm. Food was really good and I love the interior. Complimentary chips and salsa- their salsa is chunky and it's really good! Has lots of flavor. We ordered their marinated shrimp appetizers, mesquite grilled chicken, and their brasas tacos. Loved all the things we ordered and even had leftovers, but that was probably because we had a late lunch so we were already partially full lol. Overall, it was a great experience. The restaurant is huge! So many places to sit, and all the tables were full. That says a lot. Probably better to reserve so you get seated quickly. Mexican sugar has outstanding vibes - great seats, music choice, and they are on point with the theme. My review is slightly biased since I consider this more of a vibe place - great views, patio, electric atmosphere. I'm not crazy about the food but I am interested in it. Came in for dinner with my party of two and the first table we were offered was in an odd, out-of-the-way spot, so I asked to be moved. The hostess offered us a table top and then said it was actually too big for a party of two, so we said we'd wait for something else. We stood there for a while as a few other groups were sat. Then another party of two came in -- and they were seated at that exact same table top we'd just been told was too big for us. The only difference I could see between our situations was that we were African American and they weren't. I can't say for certain what was behind the decision, but it's hard not to notice, and it left a bad taste before the meal even started. Loved my visit to Mexican Sugar! I came in on a Monday evening and there were quite a few patrons, but the service was fast and our waiter was friendly and attentive. We basically came for drinks and to yap, but were tempted to order food after munching on the free chips and salsa the waiter brought out. So, we ended up ordering the arepas and they were warm, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. We also ordered the churros and they were crisp and comforting, and the chocolate avocado cake was rich, moist, and surprisingly light. I am not the person who looks for a free meal or to just complain,so we decided to give them another chance! I believe in my heart everyone needs to be treated the same, with good if not exceptional service. One of my colleagues got the r margarita flight which was very colorful! She liked 2 of the 3. We started with chips and salsa and added guacamole. The guac was very fresh and made in house. The salsa was medium but was a little too tomato-y for me. The chips were perfect-thin and crisp. I was able to sub out my rice for green beans that were cooked perfectly. The black beans were cooked well also. The carne asada tacos were very ample. I got the corn shells which were ok. They totally fell apart and they seemed more like half flour half corn. I came on a Friday afternoon for happy hour appetizers and drinks with friends on the outdoor patio. I ordered a Classico margarita which was nice, I tasted my friends hibiscus margarita which was very good and refreshing. I always hear nice things about the margaritas here so we wanted to try them out and that will probably be the only thing that would bring us back. The warm table salsa is just okay. I ordered queso blanco with added chorizo and it came separate which was a little odd to me but not a problem. The queso did not have chips though so we did have to ask the waiter to refresh the chips for the salsa. Im not sure if he just forgot or what. No big deal though. I do wish the queso was served in something that retains heat better because it got cold SO FAST. It wasn't super flavorful either but not bad either. One friend ordered a fajita quesadilla and she enjoyed it. My other friend took the waiters advice and ordered the marinated shrimp and she said it was just okay but she wouldn't order it again. we had high hopes for this place as my daughter wanted to eat there with 15 of her friends for her 15th birthday. So we decided to test it before hand to make sure we liked the place. I still gave it 2 stars because the place is very very nice, the service was ok. Now the food. As someone that loves everything spicy, this place was ridiculous. The chicken tortilla soup was spicier than most hot massamam curry i eat. Liked the flavor but my kids and wife could not eat theirs, so let people know is very spicy. Then came the tacos, the only thing that was not spicy was the beans, because even the green rice was very hot. Needless to say, my family did not eat much if any, and after we walked out, we went to another restaurant for them to eat something. Once again i love spicy, so i eat everything i ordered, but it was so spicy with the same spices, that everything i ordered tasted the same. We have been to Mexican Sugar many times and have always loved it, which made tonight's experience especially disappointing. We sat on the patio for 20 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. I finally went to the host stand, and only after that did someone bring us water, chips, and salsa. Our waitress eventually stopped by briefly to apologize, but after being there for an hour without even having our order taken, we finally got up and left. It wasn't just our table--everyone on the patio seemed to be having a bad experience. Meanwhile, there were around five hostesses standing at the host stand, yet no one appeared to be helping, and there was no manager in sight. This was a complete breakdown in service and easily one of the worst restaurant experiences we've had. We've genuinely enjoyed Mexican Sugar in the past, but tonight was unacceptable. read more

I came here for dinner with a large group of coworkers a couple weeks ago and was really looking forward to it. A big portion of our table ordered fajitas, which typically come out on a hot, sizzling skillet. Unfortunately, none of ours were sizzling -- they were barely warm and seemed like they had been sitting out before being brought to the table. I ordered the seafood skillet with scallop, and it was especially disappointing. It's hard to enjoy seafood when it's served cold, and the tortillas were cold as well. The menu descriptions made everything sound flavorful and exciting, but once the food arrived, it felt like something was missing. Overall, the dishes were bland and lacked the seasoning and depth we expected. Another thing that stood out was the lack of bean options. For a Mexican restaurant, it was surprising that the only choice available was black beans. Offering at least one or two additional options, like pinto or refried beans, would make the menu feel more complete and authentic. I really hope the restaurant can improve consistency with food temperature and flavor, because the concept and menu have a lot of potential. With better execution, this could have been a much better experience. read more
