We really enjoyed our concert here. First off, there is plenty of free parking right outside. We loved not having to pay to park or for valet. The venue is very clean and very intimate - small enough that you can be close to the band but not too small. It is covered but open to the air. We had general admission tickets but want to try the seats in the balcony next time. Drinks are expensive but not as much as at other concert venues. All the servers were friendly and provided excellent service. The vibe in the restaurant and outside were welcoming and fresh. Even the bathrooms were interesting with song lyrics on the walls (and clean!). We will definitely see a show here again! read more

Never been to this venue however loved the set up. Indoor/outdoor concert venue with great drinks. They were pre-made at our event but nice and strong. I wanted to leave just a two star rating but overall I had to go ahead and leave Five stars just because everything was starting to turn around once I got inside. FYI; it can be a 2-3 hour wait to get inside the building. There's NO COVERED AWNINGS outside the building to actually keep folk cool until the inside decides to open up to the public. WARNING!!! *PLEASE BRING WATER* the heat in Texas hits different. This ain't What I heard it's what I know from my own firsthand FIRST TIME experience. Walking up to the entrance I was Aggressively greeted by this beautiful black woman with a masculine disposition. I didn't even peek my head in the door and she started rushing towards the door as if I was coming in to hold the place up. This particular woman had this very same unapproachable, and unprofessional attitude towards a number of other's that just wanted to ask questions. There needs to be better communication with how she communicates with others as well as the owner investing in outside coverings or fans that blow mist of water. The ambulance ended up showing up. I hope whomever it was for didn't suffer a heat stroke or even something more severe. I know I got pretty burned in the face from the heat and over exposure to the sun. Moral of this review for me and other people viewing this post is to dress decent (No White Tees) WEAR plenty of sunscreen, YES, Sunscreen even on Melanin we still can burn...pack water, a towel, and even an umbrella...sheeesh extra under garments if need be Smdh. This was a very new experience for me to have and I learned from it. Overall I truly enjoyed myself besides a number of challenges. As much monies as this place receives to host events and the up charges at the door for non ticket holders. Things could be better...but reviews can only help or hinder a business that potentially wants more people to visit and note their experiences as well. It was 99 degrees with the forecast but imagine standing in the BEAMING scorching sun. The short Black chick at the front door is Extremely Aggressive...still can't believe she was acting this way. There were so many complaints about her disposition but I'll allow it to slide. She's definitely not trained properly to work customer service and she's very unapproachable. We had a great time listening to Emerald City Band celebrate their 40th anniversary! We had prime seats just inside with views of the stage, perfect to listen and see without being overwhelmed. We ordered Mac n Cheese balls, nachos, and pizza and they were great. The pizza could've been cooked a lot more as the center was soggy but it was still good. Would def go back! read more

Came here for a concert. We've never been here before. The location is very easy to find. And we didn't have any problem finding a parking place. We first sat inside and ordered food and drinks. The drinks were really good. And the food had amazing flavor. Our server was very nice and attentive. The atmosphere is very fun and laid back. We then went outside to see our concert. Been going here for years to listen to cover bands. Last night was Emerald City. Wipe the bank was good everything from the service to the food sucked. Way under staffed. Down stairs fans were broken. No valet parking. And the pizza was so burnt it was not edible. You get the feeling this place is days from closing. No investment or up keep is being done. Very little to no existent staff. We won't be back. It's sad to watch a place like this go so far down hill. read more

Great place for concerts! They have a really nice outdoor but covered area for concerts and they always have really cool bands playing. Food is ok, I personally don't think their menu is great but their Brisket Tacos and Elote pizza are really good! Staff is always nice. Drinks are reasonably priced. They also have Karaoke nights every Tuesday and that is a lot of fun too! read more

This place is something else! I've been wanting to come here for a long time and finally visited Lava last night. I arrived a little after 7pm on a Sunday to a completely full parking lot offering $20 valet. Not gonna happen. I parked across the street and walked over. I didn't have a ticket in advance so I paid $20 at the door. The place was packed and the music selection of Neo Soul R&B and older hip hop was great. The band (instrumentalists) were great but the singer/rappers were a little off at times. Lava Cantina is huge and features a large indoor and outdoor venue with bars scattered throughout. They offer a bar food buffet for $24 that ends at a certain point in the evening, and menu items that you pick up. I ordered the supreme pizza for $25 (the pizzas only come in large size). I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. I had two frozen strawberry margaritas at $14 a piece, which was high, but they were very strong and served in fairly large sized cups. Still, a cool place to go for a Sunday night. Let it be on notice that $20 for valet is a bit outrageous. Rent must be really high in the Colony. read more

This is a pretty good place to go for some good cover bands. Sound is pretty good (unless the band is terrible). If you sit in general admission in the upstairs area I suggest bar service. It tends to be quicker and more reliable than the wait staff. I've eaten here three times and different events and I wish I could give a favorable review of the food but I just can't. I came to Lava Cantina to attend a private party. The venue was closed to outside customers and the food was probably selected from a catering menu. The welcoming staff at the door was very friendly and well, welcoming! There was a wide variety of self serv food set up that was just alright. I had a frozen mango margarita that was good but not the best I've ever had. The venue was clean and once the band started playing the volume was off the charts! When I arrived, I tried to pick a place to sit that was fairly away from speakers so that one could carry on a conversation. Wrong!! I don't think there is a place available here for conversation. After leaving for the evening, my ears were ringing for hours. I've been to lots of concerts over the years and to this venue several times the noise volume here is always way too loud. I would have enjoyed the live music so much better if the volume was not turned all the way up! The dance floor was spacious and it's set up where the band is elevated from it, which is great. Again, the music was way too loud to enjoy from the dance floor. Maybe I'm getting too old for live music events, but I don't think so! Louder does not make it sound better, in fact the opposite is true. In my opinion, the acoustics go down the louder the volume. I think the rock and roll decor is nice and I was happy to see a poster in the ladies room on how a lady could get help from the bartender by ordering certain drinks. Overall the venue is okay. Just don't expect to have much conversations without shouting and having a sore, scratching throat to go along with ringing ears the next day! read more

I have eaten at Lava Cantina many times, although it has been a few months that I attended my first concert here recently. The experience was outstanding, including the fact that there was a storm just prior to the concert. The menu has changed since I was last there and some of my faves were missing. We stopped in at Lava Cantina for a quick bite. Sorry to say the food was just not that great. The bang bang shrimp were over cooked -way beyond crispy, to the point of being chewy. The salad was lettuce and a ton of tomatoes, very little dressing and you had to ask for croutons! The pizza was so salty! It looks so good but the salt overpowers everything. The crust was really good. Not sure how it was, but there was a band playing and we throughly enjoyed them. We were seated quickly, and our server was very sweet. Got a bunch of food brought up to us in the Vegas section prior to our show. Pizza was very tasty, but the wings were awesome. Big and tasty enough to give Pluckers a run for their money. Service was quick and friendly with our drinks being refilled all night. I like the Vegas section after sitting on benches or tables these last few years. Still a bit pricey to sit there and so is food and drinks, but enjoyable. read more

Seems like the ownership of Lava Cantina is in a weird state since the end of last year. It is still a venue in good condition. They had a very limited menu on a printed piece of paper and were using some Italian joint. No drink menu anymore. You just ask for a drink and hope they can accommodate. Maybe that will get better. Otherwise, I might have seen my last band there. read more

This rating is specifically regarding their "VIP" section of their live events. It sucks. The most expensive ticket with the crappiest view. Do not recommend it at all. You end up standing unless you you've snagged a seat on the rail. The rest are crap. May as well save your money and buy a GA tickets Oh, and on the floor, you can see the stage from wherever. I've never had the opportunity to attend this location in the form Of it being a restaurant. I know that they do every Sunday have something similar to a happy hour/ day Party Called "Neo Soul Sunday ", consisting of a really dope live band, rooftop access and this frozen margarita drink I think its called the rum runner( a must try ). Very fruity , yet very potent as well. They open doors around 4pm but if you are trying to avoid the very long line , or grab a table that hasn't been reserved . I suggest getting in line at like 330pm. Another thing that I found awesome is the all you can eat buffet and the bottle service that they provide. We were in the area having lunch prior to so we were fortunate to find a booth literally on the dance floor, allowing me to do one of my favorite task which is people watching lol . It's gets pretty packed as the sun begins to go down. For anyone who is Covid Cautious, this will not be the place for you to attend without having anxiety. There are no protocols in place or practiced , no one wears mask, I don't recall seeing any hand sanitizer stations or bottles . But if you're looking to have a great time and enjoy soul music, r&b, some old school and a little bit of hip hop , then you'll enjoy fully. We paid for a VIP table at The Molly Ringwalds show and never once had a waitress come to our table. Yet she could go to the table beside us. We had to go to the bar for our drinks. Do not pay for VIP experience. My experience right now is beyond acceptable. As paying customers we are highly disappointed in the lack of service from our waitress. She's covering a few tables but missing in action for long stretches of time. I'm disappointed that cigar and cigarette smoking is allowed in semi covered spaces. I'm pissed that they allow non-VIP customers to stand around VIP tables blocking the view of VIP customers to TVs and the main stage. I will not recommend Lava Cantina to any of my friends and acquaintances. My party of 8 VIP customers wasted our money today. The food was excellent, but the experience in all other ways falls short of excellent. Do better! read more

Even the queso and salsa were meh. I ordered a drink and there was a concert going on so they put it in a cheap plastic cup that literally gave me two sips...IT WAS ALL ICE what a rip off for $12.00.
