Abuelos has become our favorite Mexican Restaurant! The food is always delicious and made fresh. My favorite is the Australian Sea Bass with Guerrero Sauce. I order it all the time and it has consistently been very flavorful and delicious! Chris tends to try a different entrée every once in a while and always ends up very satisfied with his meal. The place is huge but we always sit at the bar. Maria has been the bartender there since we started coming in regularly and she remembers my order, lol. If I could give zero stars, I would. Abuelo's has completely lost its way. The owners clearly no longer care about the quality or experience -- and it shows. The servers have no idea what they're serving, and it's obvious they've received little to no training. There is zero customer service. The food? It tastes like it came straight out of a can and was arranged on a plate to look decent -- but it's not. If you're looking for good food, skip this place and go to Molino's. Abuelo's is a disgrace to its name -- which should stand for family, warmth, and authenticity. Instead, it's become one of the worst dining experiences of my life. This place needs to close. This is my second time here and I must review it now, If you have had any Mexican/texmex chips and salsa you will immediately be annoyed with the salsa. The foods not bad but not fantastic. The chili con queso was very watery and didn't have much flavor. The Chile relanos were smallish peppers, one stuffed with shredded beef and the other with cheese. They were fried crispy and didn't have a lot of flavor. My wife did enjoy the enchiladas on her Lorado plate and the taco wasn't bad. Overall it wasn't a bad meal but it wasn't anything spectacular either. Because my wife enjoyed the enchiladas we might go back. There are other things on the menu I can try and one or two items I didn't care for doesn't mean it's not worth another shot read more

How does my family want to spend Easter? By not cooking. I asked my mom if she could go out anywhere, where would she like to go? Her answer, "I would really like some fajitas from Abuelos". Well, that was easy enough. They are doing curbside take out during this pandemic, so my dad was all over it. Unfortunately they are not doing margaritas to go as well. Everything was packed up separately and they sent a TON of food. Tonight's fajitas will be tomorrow's fajita nachos. We did order extra guacamole, which was fortunate as the dinner portion was small. Also, they sent a container of lettuce that had seen better days. No matter, we don't need no stinkin' lettuce! We asked for a refill on chips and did not receive one and we also needed refills for our drinks and did not get that either. They hyped up the prices due to Valentine weekend. For 3 people, it was over a 120. My little girls steak was sent back. The coffee they served was over $3 and it was burnt. We will not be going back very disappointed. read more

Abuelo's sure has gone down hill over the last 20 years. Don't waste your time or money. We came here to eat on a random Thursday night and the entire experience was terrible. It must have been a bad night when we came because the food was disgusting and the entire staff seemed annoyed and upset, very unwelcoming. I'm not usually a fan of Mexican food, but this place surprised me. For lunch I ordered the half salad/half soup combo - got the Reynosa salad and shrimp chowder. The salad had the most amazing queso, shredded chicken and fried tortilla. So yummy! The chowder had a nice amount of shrimp and very good flavor. Loved the upscale feel of the place and nice decor. Meh. The chips were decent, staff was friendly enough. Maybe I ordered the wrong things, or maybe it's just different than what I'm used to. I was so looking forward to the food, and the menu descriptions sounded amazing. But it just was mediocre. The mild salsa was ok, as were the papas. The fire roasted salsa was quite good and so were the beans. The shredded beef in the burrito was also pretty tasty, but the cheese sauce was not and it was impossible to scrape off. The green salsa was awful, it was so sweet, and the Jalapeño fritters had a really odd taste- there was something in them that was really off putting. I couldn't eat them. Overall, it was just ok. I don't think I'd go back; it's certainly not a taste of Mexico. I'm giving three stars because i might've ordered the wrong thing. read more

My husband and I have been to Abuelos in Wichita twice in the past month. Once on a Saturday night and once on a Wednesday night. Both times the restaurant appeared to have staffing issues. The Saturday night visit, our server asked us to be patient with him because he had 27 tables that night (due to multiple people not showing up or calling in sick). Despite how busy he was took great care of us and we appreciated his candor and honesty. Tonight, Weds, was much more disappointing. Other than the hostess bringing us chips and salsa, no server ever brought us water, greeted or even acknowledged us for at least 15 minutes, when we ultimately decided to leave. They had more servers on, but not one paid any attention to the fact that people were sitting there without any water glasses, and were looking around trying to figure out who their server might be. We love getting take out and eating at Abuelos and have been regular patrons for a long time. But one thing is for sure their quality of service and ability to take care of customers has gone way downhill. We hope management figures it out. read more

We had corn tortillas in our enchiladas, but the chimichanga was smothered in cheese and so was the side of potatoes. Cool atmosphere to this place. Unfortunately, the layout doesn't make the food taste better. The food here isn't God-awful, and I have little doubt others might really like this place.
