yuzu jerk sauce Fried Chicken (4 Pieces)

God I forgot how delicious this place is! I recently went back to dine in after a longggggg time, and its even more amazing than I remembered. I love getting their cabbage and salad with the miso ranch. It's so tasty. This time, i decided to try a new chicken flavor: Yuzo Jerk Sauce. It was a great combination of sweet, savory, and spicy. I really enjoyed it, an would definitely get it again. The vide of this place is very cool and dive bar-esque. It just get super packed (which makes sense) and seating is very limited. The good thing is the service is always very fast, making the wait for the food or a table bearable.

Aburaya is a new favorite of mine! I'm obsessed with their ethics and values that you can see posted up on the wall. It's an edgy twist on Japanese Fried Chicken, with cool art work, affordable eats, and it seems like a community staple for sure. Many people opt in for takeout but I decided to dine in with my friend. It's casual style dining, no service it is self service at the counter. Additionally, they had options for snacks and drinks. We had some jelly sake, sapporo, and there were goodies to try from. They also had free stickers. My meal was plentiful and lasted me some leftovers afterwards. I'm coming back one day! The staff is nice and had great recommendations. I recommend trying it out if you're in the area, won't disappoint.

Today i tried the Japanese fried chicken tights, rice, salad and salsa verde wasabi sauce. I added more flavor using soy sauce, as Teresa kindly recommended, this pairing of wasabi, spy sauce, rice and fried chicken was delicious. Also i love the music, vibes of the staff and the eclectic decoration. Always I have an anazing meal and moment when i come here.

I only got to try their limited menu at their booth for the inaugural Oakland Freedom Run and it was phenomenal! Loved that they even had vegan options too. Staff was great and so quick with their food prep. It was a limited menu so I can't wait to try their brick and mortar locations in Oakland and Berkeley soon!

This review strictly for delivery through doordash only. We got this fairly quick within 30-45 minutes from ordering which wasn't bad at all. It was hot upon arrival. I just air fried it a bit more for a little crunch. This was my first time having it and wow this was so delicious for some chicken. I ordered the 4pc added salad & cabbage & it was a really huge portion I was pretty full. It could only choose 1 flavor unfortunately. My boyfriend ordered the xxtra spicy karalina miso & yuzu jerk and the jerk sauce was pretty yummy. I definitely want to come back to try this in person and try other flavors out.

Cozy little space with a side eating space but limited seating. A few two top tables outside too as well as a few tables in the main room. Order at the front and then find a seat! All the utensils are in the front room and with a dirty dish bin in the bottom~ They really know their chicken- it was moist and had so much flavor. I really enjoyed the fried chicken sando sauce, it was so tasty! - also tried the yuzu jerk sauce- tasty but also reminded me a little tiny bit of curry sauce heh Service is friendly~ I will be back to try the other flavors!

This place is awesome!! A little hole in the wall bursting with character inside. I mean you've got funky swag and lots of legit Japanese products and a wide selection of sake and other drinks. of course I'm sure their main speciality is the fried chicken so you gotta try that. It was crisp, hot, and perfectly seasoned. They have so many sauce choices too! I wish I could try it all. Service is quick in spite of the single lane line up. They use a speaker/intercom to call you up, which makes it easy to hear when your order is ready for pick up. I'd love to visit again if I'm in the Oakland area. Since it's in the city, parking is mostly street though there may be some nearby paid lots within walking distance.

Chicken inside was lacking seasoning. It was so bland. We asked for salt, and the seasoning that came with it just to make it work. Was so excited about it too! Service was great. Ambiance was great. Would not come back for the food

No wonder it's an Oakland staple, this place shmacks! It's a little easy to pass in downtown, but once you're inside, it's like nowhere else you've been. Japanese fried chicken is already hard to come by, and this place specializes in it! Before you even get to order that classic 4-piece plate, you're greeted with a bunch of fun snacks, international beers, and other bits and bobs. I've tried two flavors out of the 14 rubs and sauces they have. The Kogarashi honey is delish -- if you reaaalllyyyy enjoy wasabi heat. Garlic soy is classic and always a good and safe choice. I'm definitely going back again so I can try all the other flavors. The chicken itself is juicy and tender, I cant imagine any spice or glaze ruining it at its core. (I stomached the wasabi despite my mistakenly ordering it because I just wanted Aburaya that bad)

Our lunch at Aburaya was so filling and satisfying! Each of us ordered their 4 pieces chicken with rice and salad. We were so hungry but thought the 4 piece portion was a bit much. We couldn't finish our lunch and brought it home with us as the portion was quite large. For the chicken flavor, We got their habanero miso, Karashi honey and garlic miso. All flavors were very tasty and the chicken was so juicy in the inside. We also got their tater tots and cucumber salad. The tater tots came with some delicious toppings and sauce. The cucumber salad tasted so light and refreshing. They also serve some interesting alcoholic drinks (beer and sake) local and from Japan. There are plenty of seatings area inside as people come and go. Will return to try other items and flavors.

Looks like almost the entire audience of the Taylor Tomlinson comedy show at the Paramount and I had the same idea to come here for a pre-show dinner. I enjoy trying different restaurants in the area anytime I come up for a show at the Fox and Paramount but none have been this busy, which is a testament to their popularity! The online menu is pretty overwhelming in its options but at the register it was more clear: pick a protein (chicken or vegan), pick a dry rub OR sauce , pick a base (rice/salad/cabbage/combo). And then with options to order appetizers or dessert or non-fried protein entrees (but then why are you here?) Overwhelmed with the 10+ sauce or dry rub options I played it safe and went with Japanese BBQ sauce. It was a little too sweet for my tastes so I wish I had tried one of the more out there options. The chicken was flavorful and while not super moist, it wasn't dry. I got two pieces on top of the rice+salad+cabbage combo and this was like $11 and more than enough food for me. Wild! The salad came with a lovely sesame dressing but the cabbage was raw and roughly chopped, so a little hard to eat. The chicken also came with a ranch that I keep thinking about because it was unique. Not like traditional American ranch, a little closer to a Greek taziki because of some herb in there. Logistics: - indoor and outdoor seating but it fills up fast beware, and you need to wait in line to order before grabbing a spot - limited street parking nearby - almost everything is gluten free (especially the batter) except for some of the desserts

walked in on a tuesday a little before lunch rush hour and ordered at counter! cutlery and napkins available on the side. don't be fooled, there's additional seating on the side of the restaurant. food: crunchy cucumber refreshing, saltier as you get to where the bulk of seasoning is placed. use the cucumber to reset ur tastebuds in between bites of different chicken. orange honey aioli: the chicken itself was moist seasoned plainly. chicken has yellow mild sweet sauce. the miso ranch served on the side is deceptive in the best way, looks heavy but tastes light with slight tang. garlic miso: dry rub was a bit disappointing. i expected it to be coated with the powder but it was more of a light dusting so it was a bit plainer compared to the other chicken. i def plan on going again to try their different sauces on their menu

Found this small Japanese restaurant while looking for some places to eat before seeing a show at the Fox Theatre. The sauces here are quite extensive and I definitely would like to come back and try other ones. I had the teriyaki sauce on my fried chicken and my partner did the BBQ and Umami salt which was certainly plentiful and a great meal with salad and rice included. It was well worth the price and I would certainly get it again. Overall I will definitely come back again to try more sauces and dry rubs!

I dined here on a weeknight during a heat wave, and walked in as a party of 2 to be seated immediately. The host even provided options of which table we preferred. Totally unheard of especially when every other visit included a 45+ min wait. Mensho has great ratings, and for good reason. They have enough ramen selections to cater every type of eater. The ingredients seem quality and the noodle texture has the perfect chew, which Mensho described them as "mochi noodles". I opted for the vegan ramen during my recent visit, loved all the veggies and the broth wasn't too salty. I had a couple bites of the wagyu from the wagyu ramen, the meat was very rich/buttery. I probably wouldn't want a whole serving of that, but a few bites satisfied the curiousity. Currently, Mensho offers a matcha pudding type dessert for $7. It was very tasty with a few bites of red beans and couple slices of strawberry. I was actually enjoying every bite. Prices have definitely creeped up over the years, glad to see that they're still using quality ingredients. Service was good. I'll come again during the next heat wave. Haha. #39/2026

One of my husband's favourites was the fish porridge. However, after a few times, they decided not to make it anymore. It's a shame cause it was their best dish even though my husband normally doesn't like porridge, he thinks they made the porridge so good that he can give it an exception! Fast forward to last week, we decided to give Kiraku a try again - dine in. I noticed that they have quite a strict policy in reservation (if we don't show up, they automatically charge a fee and we have to spend at least $50 pp like other high end restaurants which I guess it's ok because it's hard to do business nowadays). When we arrived, we were greeted and seated right away. The restaurant was very small, obviously all the tables were very small as well. There was hardly any room for the wait staff to walk/move around and my head/arm got hit a couple of times by their elbows. That was not the worst though. The place was so loud that we could not hold a conversation. I felt that my ears and my head were hurting by all the noise from people talking and the sound of the dishes clinking. However, that still was not the worst! We looked at the menu, my husband doesn't eat raw stuff (I did tell him that they have lots of cooked items). I asked the wait staff what kind of fresh sashimi they have since I have a craving. She told me they have blue fin tuna. I was so excited so I placed that order. Here comes the break down of my disappointment: 1. Blue fin tuna, turned out that they actually didn't have. So I had to choose either salmon sashimi or torched mackerel. I don't like to order salmon sashimi since most of the salmon restaurants serve is not wild caught so the farm raised salmon often tastes fishy. I decided to order the torched mackerel at the wait staff suggested. It was a big mistake....the mackerel was so fishy that I couldn't finish the whole thing. My husband ordered the chicken karaage and the snow crab with torched cabbage which were only ok, we also had the tender beef tongue skewer which was good, black cod miso which my husband said I cook that one much better, we also had jumbo squid and gyoza which were only ok. Our dessert was probably the best - the sweet potato brûlée. We have decided to scratch this restaurant off our dining list because the food was just not good enough for us to give it another try! I guess I am spoiled by the excellent Japanese food in Singapore, Japan and Australia, this place just cannot compare to any of the places we had but I am sure I can find other better Japanese restaurants in California!

It was conveniently located across the street from the venue, and the unassuming outside of the restaurant did not hint at the amount of fun, ambiance, good food, and warm hospitality contained inside. First, there is the name. Not sure if it's some sort of play on words, secret joke, or if it's someone's actual name, but it works, kinda. It's kinda a restaurant, kinda a bar, kinda of a hangout, and kinda fun. The tiny entrance and plain facade reveals a bustling world of delicious food, tasty beverage, and lots of decorative eye candy to keep you looking around the space while you are hanging out with friends, on a date, or just relaxing after a long day. The decorations there are very upbeat, eclectic, fun, and distinctly Japanese pop culture. Posters, banners, flags, lanterns, toys, and trinkets can be found all over the restaurant, and made it fun to keep looking around and discover new novel things to look at. I did feel like I was in an authentic Izakaya somewhere in Shinjuku, Shibuya, or Ebisu in Tokyo. The place had a lot of personality & personal flair in an otherwise, tiny & industrial small warehouse type space. Service was excellent. The host was the cute & personable Mina, who couldn't have been more accommodating, patient, friendly, and engaging. It was very busy, and even though it was our first time there, Mina made us feel welcome into their home and was also very helpful to guide us around their experience. The other staff were less engaging, but still professional, efficient, and polite. Service was quick, attentive, and friendly on all accounts, and they as a team, managed to serve an entire full house of hungry & happy patrons during the entire Saturday night dinner rush. Fun place with a good staff. We opted for Izakaya-type, shared small plates to satisfy our hunger cravings without getting too full and weighed down on big portions of heavy, rich foods. Everything on the long & expansive menu looked great, but we mostly stuck with small appetizers to sample & savor. It was nice that there were plenty of lighter, fresh vegetarian options as neither of us were really in the mood for seafood, fried food, or big heavy entrees. We ordered the Kinda Tofu, Kyuri sliced fresh cucumber salad, and Kinoko butter-grilled mushroom hot platter and washed it down with some green grape Jinro soju. Everything was pretty good! Not overly fried, greasy, salty, or seasoned. Lightly cooked, delicately glazed, with just enough seasoning & oil/sauce to make it taste good, but not end up too complicated or messy. The taste really came through using these minimal cooking & seasoning techniques. The taste of the original vegetables & tofu came through perfectly, and were only complimented by their light hints of adding flavor. Portion sizes were ample for two people, and presentation was appetizing and organized. The bill for 3 apps + 1 bottle of Soju was less than $50, so it was a good value for the fun experience & good food. Wait times during the dinner rush are long, and there isn't really anywhere to sit or stand, so reservations are recommended. You can also enter and go straight to the 10-seat bar if there are openings, but we got a table for two after around a 20-30 minute wait. After that, everything moves pretty quickly, from ordering, getting food & drinks, to wrapping up and getting your check. Perfect system if you're trying to get to a concert, movie, or appointment with a specific start time. I really liked this place, not Kinda, not Sorta, but Definitely, or Absolutely! Kinda Izakaya will always be our destination to eat & hang out next time we come back to Berkeley, it is a true gem of a Japanese Izakaya/light meal fare right in the heart of downtown Berkeley. It's fun, tasty, busy, and friendly. Small & cozy, yet also airy & comfortable.

I loved the decorations, the plates and silverware, and the food was just as intentional in flavor and selection. The Saba Bouzushi stood out to me because it reminded of Filipino paksiw but as a roll! The Gindara was buttery and soft and had a yummy smoky flavor. The Nabe was perfect for a rainy evening - hearty, fresh, and so well balanced in flavor (I loved the yuzu kosho the had us add for a citrusy, peppery flavor)

Current favs: 1) beef bulgogi- super generous portion and great flavor. Make sure to soak up all that sauce! 2) karage & gyoza: I love both these items for a starter and hate choosing. This combo gives a little bit of each and I appreciate it. Sauce has a little kick and is delightful. 3) wagyu and pineapple skewers- just.say.yes! 4) beans with wok you sauce. More please! The skewers here were actually very good! Loved the chicken and steak ones. The roll we tried and the okonomiyaki was just okay; the pancake didn't feel very authentic and it had a runny egg on top which was a bit strange to me. The calamari was pretty good though. There's a good amount of searing inside and service is pretty minimal. Once your food is served they pretty much leave you alone which is nice if you want space to enjoy your meal and linger after you're done eating.

TL;DR Delage in Old Oakland has reopened with chef Jeremias,…read moreformerly of Mujiri in Emeryville, running the kitchen. The $140 omakase is a steal, with excellent fish served in sets of three so you can compare them side by side. Service is warm and attentive. The only drawback is loud music that makes it hard to talk. This is the best omakase in the East Bay. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Decor: 3.5/5 Ambience: 3.5/5 (the music was a bit loud and it was hard to hear) ------------------------------------------------------ *Jeremais* I came to Delage because of Jeremias. He used to be the head chef at Mujiri on San Pablo Avenue in Emeryville, which I considered one of the best-kept secrets around. Twenty-five dollars got you seven or eight pieces of nigiri and a six-piece maki roll, and the fish was outstanding. You can find more food for the money, but not that quality at that price. Not even in Japan. I was a regular. When he left, I kept going back, but something was missing, and I eventually stopped. Then I heard he was heading up the kitchen at the newly reopened Delage (pronounced deh-LAH-geh). I booked right away. A great chef brings more than skill and charm to a new kitchen. He brings his connections and his sources, and you can taste it. * The Meal * The Itani Group (Itani Ramen, Itani Sushi, Yonsei Handroll) took over the old Delage. Now they offer both omakase and à la carte. We did the omakase at $140 per person. We started with a chilled corn dashi topped with umi masu, or ocean trout, which I believe is one of the chef's favorites. It's orange and buttery, and the chef finished it with a spoonful of caviar. The nigiri at Delage comes in sets of three, grouped by fish that share something in common. Instead of tasting each piece in isolation, you get to compare them directly. It's a smart format, and I haven't seen it anywhere else. The first set was umi masu, kurodai, and shima aji. Kurodai, black sea bream, is mildly sweet and clean on the finish, with a firm but tender bite and lightly scored skin that releases its fat. Shima aji, or striped jack, is one of the most prized white fish in Japan and a personal favorite. The name translates to "striped horse mackerel," though it's actually a jack. It tastes like a cross between saba and kampachi: smooth, clean, and a little buttery. That buttery quality is what ties the whole set together. Next came zuke kampachi, amberjack marinated in soy sauce, served as sashimi with grated ginger, green onion, and fresh daikon. The second set was iwana, madai, and hotate. Iwana is a char from cold mountain rivers, and its name means "rock fish." In Japan it's usually salt-grilled whole, so it was a treat to have it raw. Madai, red sea bream, starts out mild and elegant and becomes more complex as you chew, with an almost cured flavor. Hotate, scallop, was scored with real precision. Then came two donburi, one with uni and ikura and the other with ikura and bluefin tuna. After that, a negitoro tart: fatty tuna scraped from near the skin and bones, mixed with negi, the large Japanese green onion, and topped with Italian sturgeon caviar. Dessert was a strawberry panna cotta with fresh strawberries and vanilla bean gelato. Before we left, the kitchen sent out a few bonus pieces: kinmedai (golden eye snapper), more toro, and akami, the lean cut of tuna. * The Verdict * This is one of the best values in Bay Area sushi. The fish is excellent, and the details around it are just as good. You can taste the quality of the soy sauce and the rice vinegar, both of which I'm sure are made in house. But the real draw is Jeremias. This is the first omakase restaurant he's led as owner, and it has the energy of a place right at the start of something big. Nothing else in the East Bay competes. There's an omakase spot in Alameda, but I hear it's hard to get a seat, and I don't know anyone who's been. I urge you to do to Delage. If you're not ready for the full omakase, order à la carte. Either way, sit at the counter and meet Jeremias. You'll be back.

It is the ultimate intimate experience and creative omakase if you want to celebrate something…read morespecial. It's funny, everyone walking into our seating was celebrating something. The price made me hold off until I decided to take my husband as his birthday gift and as our post-wedding "let's destress and go eat something I could never come close to making at home." I like that it is limited seating for dinner service, so everyone has a great view of the chef as he's working, noise volume is respectable, and pacing of food was perfect. We appreciated the printed menus, and that chef graciously explained each nigiri set as they were served. The nigiri was honestly the best I've ever had. Each simple yet elegant bite blew me away with the quality of the fish and the balanced, subtle seasoning. The smaller dishes felt modern but still faithful to traditional flavor profiles. Although there was only one server, he was fantastic and attentive. The only minor drawbacks are that you have to exit the restaurant to use the restroom and the limited, pricey drink menu.
