What upsets me is that they didn't even try to rectify the situation saying they don't have a delivery person to bring the rest of my order. Oh. My. Goodness. These pies were amazing! Just randomly entered on a whim to try the bean pie. The guy at the counter was so helpful and I really appreciated all his suggestions. Got a regular sized bean pie and a mini pecan pie. The ratio for the mini was PERFECT - now I wish I bought two instead of one since the boyfriend literally inhaled it. I ordered two cakes from Abu's for my wedding and they turned out PHENOMENAL. The total very reasonable price included delivery and set up on site and the cakes were a hit!!! It was more gelatinous, and even then not smooth, as if it were made from a powder mix. I've lived near Abu's for approximately 2 years and have been avoiding it like the plague. I've heard on occasion how good they were and I really didn't need to know that such delicious treats were readily available. However last night I finally gave in to temptation and I was not disappointed. I ordered a slice of their carrot cake. At first I was a little skeptical of it's freshness due to the overcrowded display window. I am happy to report the cake was very moist. Abu's bakery is super close to my place and I love sweets, so naturally I have wondered into this cute little bakery several times for red velvet cupcakes! They are pretty tasty so when it came time to buy a red velvet cake for my fiance's birthday, I headed over to Abu's! So I was a very annoying customer, going over my order 10 million times, asking the same questions over and over again, talking the guy into letting me pay for my cake when I picked it up instead of in advance, even writing out my own ticket so that I could ensue that everything would be exactly as I wanted it. Ummmm Yes, I was that annoying and guess what, the guy, the son who is partial owner of the bakery, put up with me with grace! He basically laughed at me. Cool guy to deal with my nonsense! I love Abu's! The red velvet cake is my favorite and usually order a slice every few weeks. This past Sunday we ordered a 10 inch red velvet cake for my Mom's 70th Birthday. Not only were they able to accommodate the order placed with less than 24 hours notice, the cake was phenomenal! The staff was also incredibly friendly! My Mom was so happy with the cake and kept commenting that she needed to know where we bought the cake from so she could pay the bakery a visit and get more. First time visiting. Stumbled across it walking the streets of Brooklyn. I'm from the south, so of course I'm an expert on bakery items. Before I get to the taste, I would just like to compliment them on the cleanliness of the place and the great orderly customer service. I do have to say I've had better bean pie (maybe it's just the way the brothers do them in Atlanta that got spoiled). It was good but kind of lacking on flavor. As for the cake itself, I found it to be pretty sweet. Even without the frosting all I got was sugar and it took a while for me to recover. I gave three stars just because I've been to this place before and the red velvet cake is good. I moved away to another state for a few years and I'm back in the neighborhood. Today I decided I wanted cake (I'm pregnant) and the pineapple coconut was calling my name. The slice I looked at in the display looked very moist and decadent. I told the lady What I wanted, She quickly bagged up a slice (not the one I was looking at) at $5 you can't beat that. Tonight I decided to open the bag and I was disappointed. The cake bottom was burnt and the cake was dry. I was not happy. I felt bamboozled. I know they don't want to lose money because someone burned cake but why give customers burnt cake? A first timer might decide all of their stuff was like that. I'm disappointed and I really might never go back just because that lady thought it was okay to sell burnt cake to me. What made her think that I would want burnt cake? Who eats burnt, dry cake? I feel like the cakes in the display were false advertising. I know I'm being overly dramatic but I'm 8months pregnant and I wanted the cake I saw in the window If I were to decide to let bygones be bygones. Abu's Bakery has the best turnovers I've ever had in my life, hands down (the blueberry is my favorite). Unfortunately, however, the bakery participates in the all-too-common practice of closing earlier than advertised. I went out of my way to go the bakery this evening and it had closed at least 40 minutes early. I tried the mini bean pie and sweet potato pies and both were good, but i've actually had better bean pie in Oakland, CA. The customer service was lacking when I came here. Not very friendly, which I was surprised about. I am still giving it 4 stars, because they are Muslim and maybe they were having a bad day, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt!
