This was my second time in using AC Horticultural Management. The reason I called them again was because I remembered having a good experience when I used them two years ago. I was not disappointed this time either. Rene came out the following day and gave me a reasonable estimate for removing 2 towering trees (incl. stumps), cutting back an overgrown tree, and taking out a forty-year-old chain link fence that was completely bogged down in old-growth ivy. The day of the job, the crew arrived punctually, with all the right equipment, and worked fast and efficiently. When they were done, there was virtually no trace left behind. This is the second time we have used AC Horticultural for our tree service needs. I can't say enough great things about them. The first time we used them was because we received a notice from the city that we needed to trim one of our trees. After contacting several providers and getting the run around we found AC. We had such a great experience I would never consider hiring anyone else now. This time I called regarding an infestation of some sort on our ash tree that was producing white flakes floating through the air and a sticky substance on our patio and everything else these flakes touched. It concerned me because we have two dogs. Because Renee is a certified arborist he was the perfect person to consult regarding this issue. Renee is awesome! Very courteous and knowledgeable. While he was here we also discussed two large pine trees we have that are leaning over our back fence and a fairly busy street. He diagnosed the issue with the ash tree (white flies, yuck!) and gave us treatment options as well as providing us guidance regarding the pine trees. After considering all the information we decided the best option on the pine trees was removal. Renee and his crew arrived here at 7 am this morning to set up and they were done by 11am. The crew AC has are phenomenal. They are excellent at their job, courteous and respectful. It is really amazing to watch them work. They cleaned up everything...not a pine needle in sight! We ave some very large trees that are close to our house that need a good trim. AC was priced well, had an excellent knowledge of trees ans supplied great advice on how much made sense to trim. The day the work was done the crew was courteous, knowledgable, efficient and clean. They had to interact with 2 neighbors who were also very complementary. We have two very special olive trees in our back yard that are in front of our kitchen and family room picture windows. They were healthy trees but we noticed that they weren't growing as well as the other three olive trees on our property. We called AC Horticultural Management, Inc. The owner who is a certified arborist came and examined very briefly the two trees in question. He then spent few minutes explaining what he was going to do to our two trees and a quick instruction as to watering prior to the treatment. The following week a technician came and treated our trees . A few days after the treatment both trees lost 90% of their leaves over night and looked like they we going to die. Shocked and dismayed we called the arborist/owner and left a very detailed message. After a couple of days he then returned our call. He was not only not helpful but he became very defensive and rude and did not wanted to give us a minute of his time. After we asked him to PLEASE come and look at the trees he then reluctantly agreed and scheduled a time a couple of weeks later! He came with an arrogant attitude and took absolute no responsibility. Now after a few months our trees still look in shock and their fate is still unknown. This situation has left us emotionally scared and financially at risk. To replace these two trees would cost us thousand of dollers. For your information the owner/arborist has never called to follow up with us. This is not the way to treat a client. Rene the owner came out and originally gave us a quote of $500 to trim a large shrub, tree and remove an overgrowing plant. We told him that we are both retired and that was a bit too much for us to pay. He called us back later and said he had a crew together that could do all of the work for $400 in cash. Our orange tree was hit by a car and part of it was dying and needed pruning. The tree needed attention and someone with the knowledge of horticulture to take care of it's problems. I researched and found this company as they were highly recommended. They did not disappoint and exceeded my expectations with their knowledge and assessment of the tree. Today their staff came to do the work. They were courteous, informative and very professional. We will continue to utilize this company. Money well spent. I highly recommend this company. read more

I will never use this company ever again. I hired them a few months ago them to trim over 44 trees on my property. The head horticulturist came by to give me an estimate. He spent about 10 minutes looking over everything and quoted me the highest estimate of the three companies that came to my house. Being they came highly recommended, I agreed to have them do the job. The head horticulturist told me he would be here in the morning to explain to the workers what they need to do and then he would come back throughout the day to supervise the job. Yeah right.. Two guys show up in the morning that barely spoke English and they start the job. Needless to say, the head guy never showed. The two workers did a fine job but I was pretty pissed. Fast forward a few months. I needed to have all my trees sprayed for bugs. I emailed the company for a price and I almost fell over when I received the quote (which by the way was weeks after I sent the initial email). I asked if they could do better and they did lower the price a bit. I agreed to have them do the job. Three weeks later they finally got back to me with a date. By that point I had hired another company for half the price and the job was already completed. read more

We hired AC Horticultural to evaluate and repair our spinkler system. The owner sent two men, one laborer and one supervisor, whose primary job is paver installation. (This individual tried to sell us on pavers for our driveway). After only two days work (the second day with only one worker), the controller was incorrectly adjusted and no significant repairs were completed, except for one leaking pipe. The supervisor provided misinformation about sprinklers that were non-functional and scheduled sprinkling intervals for nonexistent stations. Twenty minutes after turning on a drip line, he claimed the bone-dry line simply took time to fill. When asked to do a repair (separate a sprinkler from a drip line), he said it needed to be done but refused to do it. The employees were sub-par and did not appear to be experienced in irrigation systems. All this for $2,200! Unfortunately, we've had to arrange for another company to do the repairs. read more

I needed to have some trees trimmed due to complaints from my neighbor. I called and spoke with Steve. He sent Rene, a horticulturalist, out to my home for a free estimate the same day. Renee was very professional and he told me what type of trees I have, since I just bought the house and I'm not familiar with landscaping issues. He explained how to properly care for them and said he could have a crew out the next morning. His rate was very competitive and I felt more comfortable dealing with a licensed, insured horticultural company versus an unlicensed gardener. The crew showed up as scheduled, actually they were early, but that was fine with me. They trimmed my trees 3 feet with a natural look per my request. They were very careful and cleaned up after themselves completely. Everyone was polite and professional. I would highly recommend this company. read more

If you are looking for a professional crew backed with owners who hold degrees in horticulture then this is the company you want to hire. The crew arrived early, neatly dressed in clean matching crew uniforms and were happy to discuss details of what I wanted them to do. They arrived with enough large equipment and man power to tackle our very large jacaranda tree in less than 2 hours and cleaned up a very large amount of trimmings including all that fell over into the neighbors yard. The tree is well shaped with some remaining foliage so that it doesn't look stripped like the last time we had it pruned. After much research I had Rene to my house to give me a quote for my trees & for a backyard clean-up. Was very impressed with his ideas & knowledge. His crew came out & did a great job on pruning the trees & the clean-up. Was so impressed with their professionalism, I had Rene redo my backyard landscape, which I am very happy with. I definitely recommend Rene and his crew for any tree maintenance and planting. Our house is surrounded by a large number of giant trees that urgently needed pest treatment as well as canopy thinning. We also needed a part of the property re-landscaped and new mature fruit trees to be planted. Rene and his crew arrived on time and did a great job! I have lived in my house for 15 years and I have worked with Rene at AC for 15 years. I have 3 Oak trees on my property and I live on a hill, so using guys off the street who are not 1) professionals 2)insured 3) know nothing about trees was never going to work for me. I called a bunch of guys in the phone book, interviewed them all, and Rene stood out to me. Very honest, knowledgeable. This is a family run business and they treat you like family. This past summer, a 70 foot oak tree fell on my house from my next door neighbors property. My daughter was in the house when it happened and she called me at once (I was at work). My first call was to Rene and then to my husband (who was on his way to work). Rene was the first one on the scene. He had a team of guys at the house in 30 minuets and the tree was cut down, removed and shredded by the end of the day. The next door neighbor was so impressed with how AC operated, he hired them to take care of his property and all of his trees. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my property. We scheduled a free estimate online with Renee I have the email to prove it. After that I received a call from Steve, I notified him that I had already scheduled a free estimate with Renee I asked him to have Renee call me back at his earliest convenience. Steve then said that Renee would not be available unless I wanted to pay for a consultation with him. I told Steve that we would are willing to pay for the service after we have the estimate and we would take the earliest free estimate appointment available. He insisted that the free estimate I had already scheduled with Renee would have a fee. Of course I let him know that I was interested in the free estimate I had already scheduled not a paid consultation. I told him that would be unnecessary until we spoke with Renee. I clearly told him that we would be happy to reschedule that consult for another more convenient time if he was booked. I have to say that this looks like a bait and switch to me and I saw that your company only has a 2.5/5 review on Angies list.....I urge you to come good on your promise of a free estimate with Renee. read more

The service I received from everyone at AC Horticultural was first class in every step of the way. I had a beautiful new lawn put in and it came out much nicer than I had ever imagined. The owner, Rene, was extremely professional and very knowledgeable about every aspect of the job. He was a great resource for learning about the trees I already had planted in my yard. 5 years ago I had my gardener put in new sod, and it took over a week for the job to be completed. Long story short, the old sod had died off and that is why I contacted AC Horticultural based on its solid reviews. The crew with AC Horticultural did a much bigger job and completed it all in two days flat. They had a complete crew of guys who know what they were doing and were very diligent and it made a world of a difference. I had two trees carefully pruned so they would leave just the right combination of sun and shade. The sod was delivered to our house and installed the next day and came out gorgeous. Raul, worked wonders with our sprinkler system. One month later, I do not have any dry spots in my grass, and everyone keeps complimenting on how nice our landscaping looks. Rene arranged for Raul to come back a week after the job was completed. I thought the follow up the work they did was such a great touch of professionalism. He adjusted a few sprinklers, but overall everything was thriving. I have never had a follow up of this sort with any company and I think more businesses should do this. Not a good experience with this company at all. They charged me over $3000 to move 3 small fruit trees, trim a hedge and a tree. The supervisor seemed very knowledgeable and had his process down. However, his staff didn't follow through with his instructions, and they dug a hole in the wrong place, had my fruit tree sitting out in the hot sun (out of the ground) for over an hour while they then dug another hole... I finally had to report them since they were not wetting it down or covering the roots as he instructed. Now, 1 month later... 2 of the trees are dead and my gardener has informed me that they didn't dig the holes deep enough to begin with and the roots were choked. No response from the supervisor when I advised him of the current situation. Very disappointing and poor customer care. read more

We needed a retaining wall installed in our back yard and all of our large bushes and small trees (along with an extensive root system) excavated and within the same week we had an estimate and the entire job completed. They were incredibly professional, polite and clean! An Extremely hard working team of protectionists. They even took it upon them selves to fix and reconnect our entire sprinkler system without any additional charge! Looking for more projects to do in the yard just so we can have them back! read more

Excellent work. AC Horticultural treated my evergreen pear trees which were suffering from fire blight. They also treated an ailing birch tree, removed ivy from walls and cleaned up my front and back yard trees and plants. They worked quickly and efficiently. These guys excel in 2 very important areas: 1. they are reliable. Rene actually answers his phone - or at the very least, he returns phone calls promptly. When he says someone will be at your place, they show up and on time. When he says the work will be done, the work gets done on time. 2. they do really good work. I've used AC Horticultural 3 times, all 3 times I was impressed with the quality of the work. The last time was the biggest job and I was completely satisfied. The company's crew did an amazing job "sprucing up" my back yard as I'm about to put the house on the market. All I did was walk Rene through the yard, explaining what I wanted, his team showed up the next day and I didn't see anything until it was completely done and what a fantastic job they did! I had the best experience with this company. I used this company for a big job.. They gave me written estimates and there were no additional costs afterward. They were on time to start the work and finished on time as it was promised. Owner was there at all times to supervise and to make sure the job gets done on time. Yes they take credit cards but will charge you an additional 3%. And yes they are quick to come out and give an estimate and do the job; however beware, the owner is a trained horticulturist but his employees are not. He never came back out to check their work which needed more TLC. Also, they did not check with my neighbors or ask me if I received permission for them to go on their property and my neighbor of 15 years is pissed about the trespassing. And the third thing, when I called Rene because I believed they left branches in my neighbors yard he never called back. Their price is in the higher tier but their follow-up is not. read more

This company butchered my tree and would not return my calls. I specifically asked if the owner and licensed arborist would be present during the trimming of my tree and was promised that he would be there for the trimming of my tree. Instead he sent his crew, non licensed employees who cut far far bigger branches than the two inch diameter maximum allowed by law. The men started work WITHOUT MY HAVING BEEN NOTIFIED that the "licensed arborist" I hired was not around. They did not do a good job on my tree. read more

We first used AC Horticulture about 10 years ago. At that time, I had found them on the internet when searching for Arborist. We had several Eucalyptus Trees that had that tree disease that was spreading throughout the valley. We were told by another tree trimming company that the trees would need to be removed and that there was no way to save them. They told us that it would be in excess of ten thousand dollars to cut and remove these trees.Yikes!!! Luckily, We found AC Horticulture. Rene and his team came out inspected the trees, injected them with some sort of treatment and were miraculously were able to save the trees. We did not lose any of the trees! We were so pleased, we used them to trim the trees as well. They are so good at what they do. The trees don't look bare and chopped like other tree trimmers. We have a small forest in the yard so it is no small task. In total they trimmed 46 trees in two days. They come in with a large crew, and get the job done quickly and professionally. They do a beautiful job with the trees and leave the yard spotless like they were never there. They are knowledgable and do fantastic work. My poor old, tall trees needed help after they got butchered 7 years ago by a licensed tree trimmer. After interviewing several arborists and waiting for the right time to do the job right this time, my friend recommended them. Respecting and trusting her referral, I decided to get an estimate from AC this spring. To my amazement, Rene, the certified arborist, not only mentioned the same things by other arborists, but provided additional information and recommendations to save money, time and energy. Their quote was comparable to other estimates I received 2 years ago. After seeing how well they took care of my trees, I was confident to continue with additional landscape improvements that they turned into reality. They are really an all encompassing landscape company that can handle removal and installing trees, masonry work to re-establish retaining wall, add pavement and patio, and replace +30 year old sprinkler system. I am also very please with their follow up service. They are timely in responding to calls and any requests even after the job was done. Rene was fantastic! I left a message at 9:30pm the night before. He texted me back at 7:15am the next morning willing to come by the house at 8:30am. I asked him to come by the house at 11:00am. He was a little early and raring to go. I told him which 5 trees needed to be removed, and he offered me an amazing deal compared to the other two estimates I received. I asked him when he could do it, and he said his guys were at lunch and could be there in a couple hours. I asked if he had Insurance, and he whipped out a copy of his Liability & Worker's Comp Insurance. I signed the agreement, and his army of guys (about 10) came out 2 hours later and did a quick and efficient job of removing the trees from my backyard. They brought wood-shredding machinery, root- removing machinery, chainsaws, axes, rope, shovels, trash bins and a great attitude. I couldn't believe how fast they removed these tall, thick-trunked trees in a little over two hours. They even cleaned up my backyard like they were never even there. AC Horticultural Management is simply the best in the business. We contacted them about our sick hundred year old Pittosporum tree, which was dripping sap. Rene Castillo came out to inspect the tree and discuss our options for treating it. He is extremely knowledgeable and we were able to set up a treatment plan to hopefully keep the tree healthy for a few more years. Rene and his team were amazing. They showed up, this morning, at 7 a.m. They went right to work on my next door neighbor's tree, which also was suffering from the same ailment. When they finished at her house, they started to work on my tree, removing the affected branches and treating the tree and the soil with nutrients. By 11 a..m. they had completed both jobs, cleared all debris and put everything in order. The yards were immaculate and the trees were beautifully trimmed and treated. After getting two other bids from companies that didn't have a clue about how to handle the problem, I am glad that we called Rene Castillo. they have trimmed my trees in eagle rock the last 2 years. they are fast and very good. 500 dollars for trimming my overgrown coral tree including cleaning it all up and hauling it away. the first time they came i was shocked at how trimmed down/butchered my coral tree was but those things are monsters so by the next year it was a monster again. will use again. read more

I'm posting 5 stars for the experience and advice. Keep in mind I still don't officially know if my tree has been saved, but have very high hopes after working with Rene! I originally found Rene's name on a national certified arborist listing website. A few days later I came across this company with great reviews on Yelp and thought how perfect that he is tied to a company with a built in crew, etc. So I didn't hesitate to set up a consultation with him. The consult fee would go towards any further work that we would potentially have done. He came out and assessed my dying large eucalyptus tree that I desperately wanted to save due to it creating major shade on our yard. He was extremely knowledgeable about all the plants in my yard and answered my many questions. I received a quote for trimming/pruning, insecticide injection as the tree had become overrun with bugs, and a nutrient drench. He also quoted the tree removal to compare. He knew I really wanted to save the tree so he gave very specific watering instructions for not only this tree, but all my large trees which has helped immensely! The quote for the trimming seemed in line with what our gardener had quoted. We also opted for the injection and nutrient drench to give the tree the best chance possible. Looking back maybe we could have saved a bit and done at least the drench ourselves by purchasing at Home Depot or something, but there is something to be said for just letting professionals handle something and not having to spend a million hours at the computer researching and guessing. Rene showed up with the crew a day later to guide them on the trimming and such which I SO appreciated! Everything went as expected and now I water and wait! My husband and I on our own actually ended up installing a drip system with bubblers for all our large trees to make our lives easier, and Rene continued to offer tips/advice. I hope the tree begins to sprout new growth and flourish once again as he has projected. Time will tell, but great experience overall!! read more
