I have used several driver sealers over the years and had Academy after reviewing a few bids repave my driveway due to cracks and low spots. First, they were slightly lower in cost, but more importantly did a great job on the driveway (which is now almost two years old). The reason for my review is I was not completely satisfied with a sealing for this year. things happen it wasn't horrible, but not what I expected. But after a quick call and forwarded picture we scheduled to have it redone. No issues, and glad to take care of me as a customer. Truly, responsive customer care! read more

We hired Academy Sealers after receiving their flyer and a pretty low quote to seal our rather long driveway. The flyer said they'd seal with a "thick coat" of sealant. They came on time but were there only a few minutes--sprayed a thin layer (like black water) out of a tank on their truck. It looked very uneven and didn't cover evenly. There were several marble sized blobs of sealant left on top of the driveway as well. We called and were told to wait a couple of days. In a couple of days it didn't look much better. To their credit, they offered to come re-seal and they did. It looks "a little" better but there are still small dents that a thick layer would've filled in and still we have several blobs left on the driveway. You can see large lighter colored areas where the sealant is thinner. We've had our driveway sealed several times by others and we know what a thick coating should look like. This was just cheap--I guess we got what we paid for. Never again. read more

This is our second time dealing with this company in 3 years. Everything went fine the first time; however less than a week after a treatment on July 13th there are now cracks in our driveway. I took several photos of the cracks in various locations and contacted the company. They were pleasant but as soon as I sent pictures to someone's cell phone, with a minute, I received an AUTOMATIC reply about this not being their responsibility and there must've been cracks in my driveway in the first place. TOTALLY UNTRUE. Repeated attempts to at least get them to come back out and see for themselves and possible treat again and been completely IGNORED. I would not ever recommend this company to anyone! They are very nice up until you have a problem; then they BLOW YOU OFF. I was even told that I was trying to get a "free treatment." REALLY DUDE, after paying on the spot for the terrible treatment and having had my driveway totally repaved 8 years ago. It's a sad state of affairs to have any company not stand by their workmanship. This is clearly a Fly by Night outfit that is unprofessional and truly doesn't care about customer service. We take meticulous care of our home (original homeowners) and have our driveway sealed every 2 years. Our driveway was completely repaved less than 8 years ago...yet this BOGUS company sends a text that you can easily tell was manufactured for how they respond to customer problems. I asked them to at the very least come out to review the poor work and that I could show them invoices of how often my driveway was sealed. They acted like I was trying to SCAM them for $160 (the cost) even though they were paid in FULL for the job! REALLY not the company any consumer would need to hire at all. Additional calls and texts on my behalf to get them to come out, review and retreat my driveway have been ignored. This company is not listed with the Better Business Bureau but I did file a complaint to have it on file. Very bad experience with them. Now I need to hire another company to REPAIR the BUM JOB Academy Sealers did by cracking my driveway which had ZERO cracks before they came out! BUYER BEWARE! They are a bunch of SCAMMERS. Priced fair and quick communication. Service was done in about 20 minutes. Multiple areas are noticablbly thin and you can see some of their squeegee strokes after curing. Several clumps left on the surface. Overall just OK. read more

We'd been looking for several years to find a company to completely replace our crumbling, cracked driveway for a reasonable price. The quote from Academy was in line with what we were thinking this project would cost and can't say enough about their customer service. They really did a fabulous job. WARNING: They can't event get their scheduling down correctly and their Management (Brandon and Tyler) staff have zero customer service. Academy Sealers was supposed to seal a driveway on 7/2 as part of a package deal between multiple homes. They skipped my house and completed the other home. I called to verify and they told me that my house was not scheduled ( I took the day off from work) and it would be weeks before a crew would be back in my area to seal my driveway and that I did not need to be home. This is unsatisfactory service because I indicated to two other Academy employees that my house and my neighbors house were to be sealed on the same day. CAUTION: Academy sealers will tell you that nobody needs to be home for them to seal your driveway. My response: I do not recommend that you have people work on your house while you are not home. Please read the other reviews of people that were not home. Hence I took the day off to verify their work and they didn't show up. CAUTION: Brandon and Tyler, a Manager, boast that Academy Sealers seals 80,000 driveways a year and that my business is not needed. My two cents on this company: They are staffed by rookies, have zero customer service and do not fulfill their business obligations. You as the consumer of their services have been warned. Their website says they apply primer to oil spots and fill cracks. All they did was show up, apply the black sealer and 5 minutes later thy were done. My wife asked them if they applied the primer and the guy pointed to a can in the truck and said he did. I called the company and they said that even if they apply it they still don't warranty it. The dude straight lied to my wife. We waited 4 days and you can see the oil spots through the sealer. Also if you park the car overnight and drive away it peels the sealer up. 1 week later and it looks like shit. I should have listened to the other reviews. read more

Not too bright. Last fall I got a quote to seal the parking pads of my neighbor and me and the shared driveway that leads us to the road. I called this spring and asked them again "how much to do it?" I didn't catch this time that they quoted me a new price FOR JUST MY PARKING PAD. That's what they sealed. Nothing more. Leaving some cracks half covered. And the driveway basketball court half sealed. read more

My parents who live locally recieved a flyer from academy sealers advertising their services to seal the driveway for their home for $69 which i though was a great price. I live in the area as well and needed my driveway done so i called them since i thought the price was very good. To my surprise, they quoted me $60! I was happy! I cannot understand how one company has such a difference in ratings, makes no sense. We were recommended by some neighbors to use this company. So I of course contacted them based only this recommendation. Long story short, called, got quote, scheduled for the 8th which was 2 weeks away when I booked. on the 8th I called again to try and get a eta and was told between 12-3 - okay, waited, waited, called back at 3:10 to check status was told/asked that crew claimed they had completed by driveway. Manger called crew, called me back and said I dunno what happened, they somehow had missed my stop, it was a "brain fart" for all he knew. And said he would reschedule again for 2 week away. I was then told that they may have done the same house number as mine on a nearby street - literally around the corner from us but NOT a 2 Car but 1 Car driveway. So I took a walk and don't you know there it was - so as I was walking home I spoke to a neighbor who also had been expecting them to show up to REDO his and ANOTHER neighbor's driveway - blew them off also - so they skipped our entire street 3 driveways. So I then called and canceled my next appointment and rescheduled with "Seal IT UP, Inc." in Martinsburg, WVA and those guys were the best! read more

Just had my driveway sealed and though I'm not sure if the seal job is good or not I don't appreciate the workers cleaning their tools on my front lawn. When I called to complain they did not care and just said it is not toxic to the grass. Well the point is the poor workmanship which makes my front yard look like trash. Why would I ever use this inconsiderate company again. read more

Incredibly rude. I called and asked for a quote for cleaning/sealing my driveway. He looked up my address and stated a quote. I asked if he would be able to address some of the stains on the driveway caused by a contractor. He asked for pictures. I texted pictures, asking for a quote to be sent to me. He asked for my "address" in a reply text. I assumed he wanted my email address, since he already had my property address. As I didn't feel comfortable providing my email over the phone, I called him back to provide it. It turned out he didn't want my email; he wanted my property address (again). I asked him to send my the quote. He told me, "I just told you." I tried to explain that I wanted a PDF or something. He started asking, "What are you going to do? Send it off people or something?" I was confused as to why he was asking, so I asked why he wanted to know that. Eventhough this could have been a very civilized, calm conversation (and I was trying to have it go that way), he was very agitated, sarcastic, and was getting rude and loud during this conversation. I tried to explain, well, I don't know, I guess I might ask the contractors who caused the stains to pay for it if would help with the stains. At this point, he was just talking over me, again and again. He went off to say, "I don't know why you are being cantankerous!!" At that point, I just hung up. There is something lying just underneath the surface of this person. The main contact of this company has some issues going on. I would avoid this company and would not recommend it to anyone. Two companies I had called before this one explained their services, provided PDFs of the quote without me even asking, and were very organized and professional. Buyer beware. My first experience with Academy Sealers was fine however I had some cracks in the driveway and they were not adequately filled or sealed. The following season I asked them if they could come out again and reseal the cracks. They resealed the driveway free of charge, which I appreciated, however this time they used a liquid material to fill in the cracks first. No one asked me or explained what they were doing. Unfortunately every summer since then, this material melts and becomes like tar and kids and animals track it into the house and into the car. The material not only stains but is nearly impossible to get out of car fabric. As a result, I tried multiple times to resolve the issue over the phone. They came out to the property to look at it and determined there was nothing they could do. At this point their interest in customer service disappeared and they would not communicate with me over the phone. I don't understand how they cannot take responsibility for what materials they use since this is their profession. How can you not know that some materials can withstand Virginia summers and others cannot. Now there is nothing I can do but resurface the entire driveway, which is far more expensive than resealing it. Had I known this I would have found a more experienced company with superior customer service. I should have researched more. read more

I have used this company many times and for good reason....they are the best. Very accommodating in scheduling, very friendly and they do a great job. I've used other companies and they slap the sealer down on the driveway, splashing over the edge of the garage entrance and basically wiping their tools on the grass. Laying down a heavy coat just creates alligatoring and that's bad!! read more

At first they promised to take care of cracks but they don't. They use very cheap sealant which results in having more cracks than you had before. And if you complain, they get rude. I would give them zero star! read more

Hodgepodge job! The sealer was spread way too thin! Two people worked really fast and sealed my driveway in about 10 minutes. Right after they left (in about an hour or so) there was a big and long crack, going from garage all the way throughout the middle of the driveway! I contacted them, but couldn't proof anything! I received a quote in my mailbox for driveway sealing and it stated "your custom quote" and was priced at $85. They came out to check my driveway and gave me a new quote for $140. The reason given over the phone was that our driveway had cracks that needed to be filled. We had our driveway completely replaced four years ago and do not have any cracks that I can see. Our driveway is also one of the shortest in our neighborhood. To me, this fit the definition of bait and switch so I elected not to do business with this organization. Therefore, I can't speak to the quality of their work. read more

These guys came and were done in minutes. That's when I knew I made a mistake choosing them. The crew was very pleasant (I give them 2 stars because of that) but 2 days later, I am unhappy with the finished results. There are shinny large and long areas around and throughout my driveway and many unfilled surface cracks. The coating is very thin so don't expect good coverage. I emailed them before my review and the reply is clear that customer satisfaction is not priority. So there you have it. I do not recommend them. read more

We have used this company twice and were very pleased with the customer service. Brandon was very responsive, polite, and answered our questions. My wife contacted to schedule our annual sealing - this time she interacted with Tyler, and the experience was terrible. Tyler was rude, impatient, and downright belligerent. What prompted this outburst was a simple question regarding oil versus water based sealants. Tyler appeared to not want to be bothered, and asked my wife if whoever was advising her was "an expert." He then stated "I have wasted six minutes on the phone with you - do you want to schedule or not." This is completely unsatisfactory and unacceptable. They have lost our business, and we would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

TERRIBLE customer service. The sealed our driveway late in the season, saying it would be fine because the weather would be warm. It rained that night and washed the sealer into the sidewalk, driveway, road and splashed it all over our garage doors. They also left footprints on our sidewalks. They came back to clean the garage doors, only cleaned one door and left. A week later I had to call back and argue with someone to get them to come back and finish cleaning "in 4-5 business days." They said they cannot fix the sealant until the spring, and we should trust that will happen because they've been in business a long time. I understand the weather limitations, however, the gentleman I've spoken with twice has been very rude and condescending. They've not communicated how they will finish the job, and they are not nice when I call to ask. read more

This is a follow up from a negative 11/3/15 review I posted...After sending the negative review, here's an email I just got (on 11/25/15) from Academy Sealers: "I appreciate the laughable Yelp review for work we did not even perform at your home. I'm curious to what your thought process is for writing a Yelp review for a service that was never done. We seal over 12,000 driveways a year and clean over 1,000 gutters in the Fall and Winter. You're unequivocally, the only person who has ever griped about our scheduling methodology and incessant demand for our POI document. Lastly, gutter cleaning is not a "side business" and I'm not sure what you mean by "get inside the household" when not one facet our business literally or proverbially tries to accomplish that. " "Happy Thanksgiving! Sincerely, (name withheld for privacy reasons) Manager Academy Sealers" I didn't expect to get an email like this, when I factually posted the other negative review on 11/3/15. After reading reviews on here, I guess that Academy Sealers is hit or miss. They did a neighbor's house down the street from mine and it looks great, however, I had them seal two driveways, and they completely "missed" on both. They cancelled on me twice (weather), which I understand, but I let the gentleman know that after second cancellation, it is a little frustrating that they didn't look at the weather forecast and see that there was a good chance of rain on the second day before rescheduling me. He couldn't come up with a good response and kept repeating himself and even offered to just cancel the sealing completely. They also tout that you don't need to be home for them to do the work. I thoroughly disagree. Some of the things they did were get sealant on my garage door, wasn't careful about not getting sealer on an adjacent concrete walkway, excess sealer on newly planted grass, etc. Please note that they use your grass as a "step off" point (which means they will wipe their dirty shoes in your grass), which was never explained to me prior, so expect portions of your grass to be black for a few weeks afterwards. I don't know why they cannot just buy industrial towels instead of making people's yards an eye sore. Overall, after having email exchanges with Brandon (manager), I have come to my own conclusion that there is a level of imperfection they are willing to accept in doing sealing jobs. Brandon even stated that he didn't think the jobs he did for me was sloppy (showing me that his expectations are very low), but he did offered to send someone out the next week to powerwash to get some of the excess sealant up, which I chose to decline his offer. read more

Tried to use them twice to seal our driveway and both times have given them a week window to do the job. Cancelled 2 times in 1 week because of weather. I understand that. Gave them another shot this spring when we we out of town for a week. When I set up the appointment I explained about the problem last year and they assured me they would get it done this time. Again they called to cancel and I explained why rescheduling won't work. Brandon was more than happy to tell me my business was not important to him and made no attempt to secure our business. I own a small company and understand when things come up but I tried to give him options and he made it clear that if we did not fit In his time frame then our money was not valuable to him. If you have a few weeks to deal with them then great. I would rather pay a bit more and deal with a company that values our business. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. They were scheduled to seal our driveway on June 9th. The day came and went and they never showed up. I called them and was told I was accidentally left off of the schedule. They were scheduled to come back on June 16th. As requested of me, I left the payment under the doormat in the event that I was not home. Their website states that they will ring the doorbell and make sure no one is home before starting the sealing. They did indeed ring the doorbell, but in the time it took me to walk from my kitchen to my front door (about 6 seconds) they were no longer at the door and had already started the sealing process. (fortunately, i was not parked in the garage.) 6 weeks later, I receive a bill for them stating they did not get payment at the time of service. I go to my front door, lift the doormat up, and there is the check that was supposed to be collected by them...exactly where they asked me to leave it. I called today to share my frustration with the overall service, and the gentleman on the phone was more concerned about being right and talking over me than listening to a thing that I had to say. The sealing job was mediocre at best. Even though we stayed off of the driveway for several days, there were streaks everywhere. We ended up having it resealed by Mark Thompson at Nationwide Paving just a week later. Much better job. Steer clear of this place. A giant rip off. Mediocre product/labor at best, and HORRIBLE customer service. I shared this same review on Facebook. Several days later, they responded and said that it must have been cracks that they filled that caused the streaking, as the filler dries darker. They did not fill any cracks, so that is not the case. read more

I have given this company two opportunities to get it right - the first time they were very responsive to the fact that there was peeling and flaking in the application - I sent in pictures, and they rescheduled my driveway for a second/heavier coating. However, the second application is flaking too. Do not be sucked in by the flyer you receive...it is poor, poor quality work and my driveway is ugly. I will need to contact another company to repair their work, and may end up having to tear the driveway up in order to be able to begin anew. And after the second time, they are not nearly so nice in recognizing that they have made a mess. My next note may be to the Better Business Bureau. read more

Horrible experience and I wasn't even a customer. I had called in for a senior citizen because she felt that Tue job wasn't done to satisfaction. When I called I was immediately confronted and talk down to by a rude service rep. After I loss my cool and told them I would make sure to tell everyone I met not to choose that company I began getting emails where the began speaking horribly about the elderly customer and sharing personal information that wasn't prudent to me. Total garbage as far as the product goes. They have to be using some bottom of the line sealer to pad their bottom line. After only one year, the coat applied by Academy Sealers is almost entirely gone. Like so much of this type of work, it looks great after they leave, but after some time the true perspective appears.
