The salesman advised us to fill any cracks with asphalt crack filler from Lowes or Home Depot a day before the sealing. We applied asphalt crack filler from Lowes. The two men who sealed the driveway were very pleasant. They did not do any additional crack treatment. Immediately after the sealant was applied the cracks were still there. A day later the crack filler turned a brownish-white color and the cracks were larger. I called to ask what could be done and had a very unpleasant conversation with a man who said he was the manager. Since "pre-treatment of cracks" was included in the price I would have been happy with a reduction in the price or spot treatment of the cracks. I have before & after photos that would have been helpful to resolve the issue, but it's not worth it if we have to deal with this unpleasant guy. We have another company coming to fix the cracks and will not be doing business with Academy Sealers again. read more

Been receiving their flyers for years and finally decided to give them a try. I have a long driveway that needed some serious TLC. Academy Sealers did a GREAT job! Setting up the appointment was easy. They kept me informed and sent me friendly reminders and updates. The actual work only took about 25 minutes. I was amazed at how fast and efficiently they got the job done. The results were awesome - wish I had called them sooner. The seal coat is supposed to last for 2-years I believe. We'll see how well it wears through the hot summer days and cold winter nights. Assuming it holds out, I'll definitely use them again in the future. read more

Even 1 star is generous for Academy Sealers. Don't get sucked in by Academy Sealers' mass marketing ads. While they are cheap - you get what you pay for and LESS! Workers simply blew the leaves off the driveway and sealed over algae even though I pointed it out to them. Response, "It won't grow back." NOT TRUE - a week later, the algae was there. The workers fixed small broken areas by picking at the loose pieces and making a bigger broken area. When the supervisor was contacted (Brandon) he said he would send an inspector (Nils) to check it out. NEVER HAPPENED. Conclusion: NO quality assurance - NO management oversight - NO follow up - NO customer service - NO competence - as the song goes, they just "TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN..." I first became aware of Academy Sealers - as many have - through a flyer left in my mailbox about 8 years ago. It had a very attractive quoted price based on our driveway size (which remains the case today), yet the flyer was also upfront and informative enough to include what NOT to expect for the bargain price being offered. I suspect that many of the poor reviews listed here are due to people expecting caviar quality on a fish stick budget, which I see on here often. No paving company will come out and fill cracks, patch potholes and essentially give you a NEW driveway for the price that Academy offers in their service. What they DO is come out and give you a nice, tidy, neat and protective once-over of asphalt that makes your driveway look darker and more attractive while offering adequate protection from the elements, all while keeping your wallet in tact. We have seen them every two years for a while now, and the service is beyond convenient - no one has to be home, they use caution tape after the job to deny access until dry, and even leave behind an invoice for you to pay afterwards, either via mail or by credit card. Academy does exactly what they offer, and they do a fine job of it. If your driveway looks like the ancient ruins and you expect a crew of five people with a Caterpillar to show up and provide you with a brand new one, adjust your expectations and budget and call someone else. read more

I recently had Academy sealcoat my asphalt driveway after receiving one of their flyers in the mail. Scheduling was easy and the crew arrived on time at the agreed appointment time. The sealers were courteous and professional. Unfortunately, Mother Nature was not as cooperative and a day later it rained, washing away some of the sealant. After emailing Academy and including photos of the affected areas, they came back and redid the entire driveway at no charge. Horrible job. The only difference I see from my old driveway and the new one is that it's now more dark black than before. No cracks seems to be filled even the smallest one as I was promised by the representative. I was asking the person who did the job why the cracks was still open and his answer was disappointing and funny to some. He told me that I need to buy an asphalt sealer from the home depot and do it my self. If I can do that then what is the point of me hiring your company. Either your office should have told me before as a preparation or suggest that before starting the job. Its like I wasted my good dollars for nothing. Costco sells an asphalt sealer for $19 that has 7 years guarantee. What your office did is more of a paint that sealing my driveway. So much disappointment. read more

I contracted them to seal our driveway. On the scheduled day (Oct 2014 first week), the people arrived about on time and started their work (w/o bothering to check if we were at home). Since it was cloudy, and there was a chance of rain in the afternoon, we asked them if the stuff will dry by then. It was our first time, we didn't know how long it takes to dry. The foremen said that it only took half an hour for it to dry. So rain was not a problem. Our mistake: we believed them. They completed their work in like 15 minutes and were gone. They left the invoice tucked in the door. When we read it, we found that the stuff requires 24 hours to dry. We called customer service and complained about the foremen making false statement. The staff member was rude and practically said that he had no reason to believe that we were telling the truth. He asked us to send pictures. Within a few days, the stuff started peeling off and smear our garage floor! Later we sent them the pictures of the garage and the driveway and referenced our phone call. We asking them to have it re-looked. They flatly refused saying that they saw no problem with their work. So basically, for $120 they lost several recommendations and future business. They did their work, put a do-not-enter tape on the driveway and left. On my way to work I found the invoice tucked in the main door. I took it with me to work without studying it. That evening and night it rained. It was sunny the next day. When I read the invoice, I found that the stuff needed 24 hours to dry. I felt being fooled! Although I left abroad for 2 weeks on the 5th, I called up from there and spoke to a person whose name I don't remember. That, instead of assuring me of investigating into the foreman's claim of dry-in-30-minutes he should expect me to have known that it takes 24 hours and that I should have asked the foreman to reschedule the work, piques me. This is my first house and it was the first time I was having the driveway sealed. I expected the foreman to be honest or if he rescheduling was a loss of profit for him, he should have handed the invoice to me. If, knowing that it takes 24 hours, I had asked to go ahead and seal anyway, I would have considered it as my fault. I didn't remove the tape for 3 days. But I guess the rain didn't let the stuff stick as it should have and the result is that my driveway, which I pained in the summer, is getting marks. I get the driveway pain on my soles if I walk barefoot. I have sent you a check anyway. I would expect that you would correct the problem by re-sealing the dirveway next spring at no additional cost to me. As far as damage to the garage floor is concerned, I will see if it can we washed off; otherwise it will be the cost of reposing too much trust in people's words. read more

I wish I didn't use them! They love to tell you that you don't have to be home. YOU NEED TO BE HOME!!!!!!!! I was at work, but I have camera's so I know they showed up to seal my driveway one hour before a bad thunderstorm. The forecast called for 38% chance of rain. Academy Sealers told me they wouldn't come if there was a chance of showers. After work I came home to find sealer splattered 4 feet high all over the front of my house. My sidewalks were covered in black sealer, grass, and stone walkway. It took them 4 days to show up to "clean" it up. But I still have sealer on my siding, concrete, stone walkway, sidewalk, grass, and now my new truck! They used a pressure washer and splattered it all over the side of the truck. The sealer is similar to sticky tar. I spent 2 days cleaning up, after they sent their "specialist" cleaner. Every time I call, I ask to speak to a manager or the owner. Apparently, everyone who answers the phones are managers or the owners. What a joke! Honestly, your better off using the 10 year old kid across the street to seal your driveway. They charged me $68 dollars, and did more in damage that its worth. read more

Received postcard in the mail w/custom quote of $75. Called and made an appt. I asked what time they would arrive. They stated they would arrive sometime between 8 am - 5 pm and if I called on day of service they could provide a better estimate of arrival time. I called at 8:30 am on day of service. They said they would arrive between 11:30 - 2:30 (approx.). By 3 pm they had not showed, I called and they said they would be arriving soon and definitely in the next two hours. By 5 pm they had not arrived and they never called to update me. At 5 pm I called to cancel the service. He said a crew would be arriving soon. I said I wanted to cancel as I had already been told this two hours prior. He said alright and hung up. No apology or attempt to rectify the situation. read more

I really wish I had read the reviews before using this company. I'm appalled at their service. They were kind during my first phone call with them, and they were quick/prompt/efficient to get the job done. However, the claim they will fill any cracks that are not spider cracks and/or bigger than 1/4". I went around the driveway and took pictures of all the cracks that look terrible now, and when I called to share my dissatisfaction, I was told that they clearly explain they do not fill the cracks I shared with them. I just think they do a sub-par job and it's definitely not worth paying them to "paint" my driveway in 15 minutes for $100. I was also just annoyed with the manager, Nils, when I called to share my frustrations. The job wasn't done well - they painted over grass, leaves, and yet didn't fill the cracks that I believe fall within their narrow description of what they will fill. I received Academy Sealer's postcard mailing along with their competitor's Collegiate Sealers. I contacted both and the Academy won me with their prompt communications and follow ups. I decided to go with them even though they were more expensive than Collegiate. As it turns out they both have less than satisfactory reviews on Yelp. I am not sure why and what the story is with the other company, but Academy Sealers did a decent job for me. They showed up at the agreed time and the crew was very professional. After reading other reviews I was worried about how the rain would affect the driveway, but it rained a couple of days ago and the driveway looks just fine. The only reason I am not giving them 5 stars because they did get a bit sloppy on the egdes and went over the grass and plants. I hope it will all go away with time. Other than that no issues. They did a good job. Also, the owner responded promptly to my weekend emails after the job was finished. read more

I received a response from Nils, a manager - Nils wanted to make it right. Nils sent another team out today to fill in the cracks and re-seal it free of charge. The work looks amazing. Nils was pleasant and changed my experience working with the company. I wasn't ever looking for a "free ride" or trying to nickel and dime - I just wanted to a quality, professionally surfaced driveway. Nils delivered. I'm happy. read more

Negative stars. They came through our street on a scheduled group deal and moved through the street. They did an OK job on some, and when they got to my driveway, it seemed like they gave up or ran out of tar and sealant but it was a terrible job. When I called to complain they said they don't seal cracks and to do it properly would cost "thousands of dollars." I called them on it, and said I've done it myself with a $40 barrel of sealant and could have saved the money by doing what I saw myself and would have. Every time I look at it I get angry. My next door neighbor had to pay another company to come do his again. DO NOT give these guys any money. RUN AWAY! read more

We were very pleased with the job Academy Sealers did on our driveway! We needed the usual crack filler and driveway seal. My concern was for the crew to be careful because we have a brick walkway next to the driveway. We left for the day and when we returned we were pleasantly surprised to see Academy Sealers had come and done an excellent job on our driveway -- with not even the tiniest spill onto the brick walkway. On thorough inspection I did notice that a little of the sealer bunched up and got onto the bottom of one of the landscaping rocks next to the driveway. But so what; the overall effect of the sealant was great. It's obvious the crew took care to do a good job and it shows. For $68 it was well worth the money. read more

I have used Academy for a couple of years and my driveway looks great! I used a different company about 3 years ago and it seemed they barely put any sealant on my driveway. By the following year the driveway had cracks and it looked awful! I decided to try Academy after checking a couple of jobs they did in my neighborhood and I've been with them since. You don't have to be home when they put down the asphalt and they do their best to avoid spills. Great job guys! read more

Great customer service! I had a new driveway put in about 2 years ago, so it was time to seal it. My neighbors had used Academy earlier in the summer so I decided to go with them as well. It was easy to schedule by phone, no need to be at home for the day of the service. For my first scheduled date, the weather forecast ended up showing rain so that morning I received a text message saying they would reschedule for a week later. They did cake by and did the job a week later as promised. Unfortunately, it ended up raining that night...and for almost a week afterwards. The sealant splashed all over my garage doors and siding. The next morning when I saw this, I immediately called them to tell them problem. The guy who answered the phone was very nice and quickly gave Ma solution to this issue. He said someone would be by later in the week to clean the garage door and siding with a solvent that they have, and then they would also schedule another date to reseal the driveway at no extra cost since presumably the rain had pretty much washed everything away. I was a little skeptical about how well they'd be able to clean this black sealant off my house, but on the first non-rainy day after that incident someone did in fact come by while I was gone to clean up and the side of the house looks spotless! They've also come by and resealed the driveway as promised. Just for their customer service I'd recommend this company. read more

We have used Academy twice to seal our driveway, and we used a competitor once. We went back to Academy because the quality of their work is much better (no mess, while Brand X got sealer all over our garage doors & siding). I also was very impressed with the professionalism of Academy's employees: the crew wore uniforms and looked professional, compared to the other guys. They also answered the phone every time I called, and they promptly called me back as promised to let me know they had completed the work.
