I went to a business that deals in newer hardware. They quoted me $700. I chuckled on my was out the door. I was directed to a couple both of whom laughed. B the both did direct me to Acme. The guy could have pulled my car into a bay, walked around it six times, said " so sorry, that'll. be $150". He asked me where I was and gave me a couple of places worthy of checking out but don't get my hopes too high. If you're having electrical problems with your car go to this shop. They're excellent at their work and honest. Several trusted mechanics I asked recommended them. They also have many 5-star Yelp reviews. From the first call I made I knew I'd made the right choice. I inherited a '98 Tahoe with many after-market modifications done by a high-end shop in Bellevue that closed in the 2000s. I'd taken the Tahoe in for repairs at a different shop just before the holidays - but it would not start. We tried jumping it and I had it towed back into the original shop. They replaced the alternator and told me I needed to replace the two super high-end batteries that were only a year old. After getting the car back, we were preparing for a trip over the mountains over Christmas holidays. Tahoe was dead. We tried jumping it and that led to something smelling burned in the dash. I called Acme and spoke with Curtis (the owner). I described the burnt smell and arranged to have the Tahoe towed in. Turns out the alternator the previous shop had installed was not high-powered enough and it had burned the auto security switch out (which was why the car would turn over but not start). Curtis also found the source of the A/C problem that this shop had missed (the condenser was leaking). He also installed a clip (for free) to fix the spliced wire hack that the previous shop did to get the A/C blower working again. (That shop told me they'd need to order a whole new wiring harness that was going to cost $250 just for the part!) Acme Auto Electric & Repair is an honest shop, run by highly respected and skilled mechanics. You'll be in good hands if you take your car there. read more

ACME is the best! I have been taking my vehicles to Acme for over 25 years. They are honest, straightforward and don't try to up-sell you on services you don't need! I have taken my collector cars to them also and they treat them with the respect, park them inside (very important to classic car owners!) and did not gouge or overprice. I was having a tough time repairing a dim right headlight on my '93 Geo Tracker. I'm a former mechanic and am very extremely picky about other people touching my vehicles. I'd read some past reviews specifically zeroing in on auto electric as this is a specialized field, and this really seemed like the go-to place. So, with that, I'm not saying other shops are bad or not as good as Acme, but I am saying that I fully endorse this shop based on my experience. Curtis was the guy who took my call, checked me in and presented the bill. It was the other guy that did the work. Sometimes reviewers base their decisions on how much their bill is at the end of the day; if it's this much they're happy and if it's that much they're upset at the world. I was given a call saying what they'd found, the technique they would use and how much it would cost. Called in for an estimate, or at least to make an appointment. Man on the phone was super incredibly rude, judgemental, etc. I was having an issue with my running lights--- I was pretty sure we'd blown a fuse, but concerned maybe my headlight switch was the problem. He said he'd take a look at it and do nothing for $60, and that replacing the ignition switch would be between $250 and $600. That's quite a range! I took it down to AXIS, instead, and he was amazing and helpful and both diagnosed and fixed it (turned out it was a fuse) for about $40. How ya gonna beat that? Just think, if the guy hadn't been so IMPOSSIBLY RUDE AND FLIPPANT on the phone, I may have let these guys suck my money! Glad it went to someone who deserved it. read more

I took my car here for several reasons: I had just had a bad experience at another auto repair shop, it came highly rated by my co-workers, and it was within walking distance to my home and job. I dropped my car off on a Wednesday with possible battery problems and a newly broken radio (from the first car place) hoping they could help me. I heard nothing for the rest of Wednesday, nothing on Thursday, and nothing Friday morning. As a sidenote: I have a heavy work schedule of 10 hour days which begins before and ends after most auto shops have business hours. So calling or stopping by wasn't an option. I thought they should have called me in that span of time to at least give me an update. I called them on my half hour lunch break Friday (day 3 of my car being there) and (politely) asked for an update. The person who answered the phone was short with me and told me everyone was at lunch til 1 pm (after MY lunch break was over) I should call back later. That and he didn't think they found anything wrong with my car anyway. I was pretty unimpressed with his customer service and the fact they seemed to be so inconvenienced by calling me. I didn't think wanting communication in a 3 day period was a high-maintenance request. I informed the rude man, THEY would need to call ME at work after their lunch. My repairman called me promptly after 1 pm, and was very friendly. He said nothing was wrong with the car despite the fact it hadn't started for me on 4 separate mornings. He said I could get the car anytime before they closed. Since that was an hour earlier than I get off work, I said I would have to get it the next day. He said they were closed on weekends, and would it be ok if I picked it up on Monday? Irate at this point, I said it would have to be ok since I didn't have a choice. I also asked them to change the oil since the car would be there anyway. I finished up by telling my repairman I was concerned with the customer service I received at lunch. He said he would TRY to find out who answered the phone and "talk to him." Sure. . . Monday rolled around (day 6 of my car being at their shop) and I was able to pick it up during my lunch. My phone was dead (I have a lot of trouble with batteries, I guess) so I no longer had their phone number. I looked in the yellow pages and couldn't find them. I can see their sign from my work parking lot, so I stepped outside to get the number. Not on their sign. So I just walked over unannounced. My car was in their parking lot, hood up, as if they had been working on it. My repair guy came right over and said nothing was wrong with the car, except did I know the check engine light was on? Background: It's a '96 VW and that light has been on for the last 11 years. I've been told it's just an irreparable Volkswagon thing by many other repair shops, so I wasn't appalled. Except then the guy asked if I knew the radio was broken--the radio I had asked him to fix when I dropped off the car! I guess he didn't look at that. . . He also said the car alarm ad randomly started going off. My original problem wasn't fixed. The radio that car place number one broke (for $40) also wasn't fixed, and now my car alarm was also broken?! I was unhappy, but just wanted my car back. When I went to pay the $98 bill, the guy acted as if they had done me a favor by not continuing to try to fix my car. He said it would have run up my bill even more. I was sort of thinking that almost one hundred dollars for 2 unfixed problems and an additional problem was already extraneous. Even though I know my own car is a piece of crap and maybe the problem too complicated for anyone but the dealer, I couldn't recommend this place to anyone. Their communication is non-existent, customer service atrocious, hours inconvenient, price high, and motivation to FIX the problem lacking. I did give 2 stars rather than 1, b/c at least no one was evidently huffing the exhaust fumes. read more

I've experienced better. Here is what they got right: They called me back promptly with updates, and they were able to return the car quickly. Here is what I'm not excited about: Passenger side mirror was jammed, I asked that they fix that. Well, they did fix it but not 100%. Its mostly fixed but twitches when pushed back, (and that's not normal). They charged me full rate for the service and omitted the fact that they weren't able to fix 100%. I would have been fine if they had been upfront about the fact immediately, that some twitching and jerking will be there and that its not possible to completely fix unless you replace the whole mirror. And this is something they informed me of after I enquired that it wasn't operating perfectly. I will not be a returning customer. As a female going into a mechanic's shop, I already feel paranoid and the omission of information chips away the credibility. read more

On three different occasions over the years I've brought cars to Acme Auto Electric, and every time I've had a great experience with these guys. I recommend them based on the fact that they are HONEST (waaaaaaay to rare a quality in most auto repair facilities), and they've been very helpful in giving me information about how to deal with some of the various mechanical issues my vehicles have had so that I could do a little on my own. Their work is GOOD - I ran into a cop in their parts store who was waiting on his vehicle, and his quote to to me was, "I bring my car here because then I only have to get it fixed once." I see there is a negative review here on Yelp, and all I can say is that I've never experienced such problems with these guys. They are old school decent fellows who aren't out to rip off the customer at any turn. I recommend this place for people who aren't car-savvy, because they won't try to take advantage of you. Solved longstanding problem. After spending too much money at a different place for a temperature gauge that kept reading high without success, Eric at Acme Auto fixed it!! I thought I would be doomed to hear the constant warning "ding" for the rest of the car's life. By reading the other reviews, I was prepared to leave the car at Acme for a couple days to let the guys take their time. Eric got a temperature sensor from the factory (I have a 1995 Ford Windstar), but discovered it also needed a resistor. The folks there are very friendly and courteous and respectful of their customers. Their hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and they go to lunch from 12 to 1. They enjoy their jobs. Super honest guys. I came here because my van AC didn't work. Didn't work when I bought the van and I never knew what the problem was. I stopped by unannounced and they took a look under the hood. They put coolant in the system but it had a leak, so they drained the coolant back and gave me an estimate now that they knew what the problem was. They were supposed to be charge me for this service but ended up doing it for free. I scheduled an appointment a couple weeks later and now my AC works! And the price I paid was at the bottom end of the estimate they gave me a couple weeks prior. I would definitely recommend this shop! read more

Great experience! I was referred to Acme by a friend. My vehicle's locks were not working correctly. I took it in the morning last Thursday. They checked it out, found the problem. The parts had to be ordered & would take about a week, which I was ok with. I could have paid extra & got the parts sooner but I decided to wait. They called me, I brought it in this morning 830 it was ready by 1030. Labor was what was estimated & one of the parts they didn't have to use so they took that amount off of my bill. It's hot right now and everybody wants their air conditioner fixed. I called and he gave me an estimate of $100-150 to fix it as long as nobody else has worked on it. I made an appointment and he told me he would evaluate and do the repair within an hour, while I waited. I showed up and it was clearly a place whose services were in demand. The counter in the service department was covered with service tickets. The senior family member came in to ask what to say to someone on the line. The guy at the counter, who was going as fast as he could, looked up and said "No, just tell him no we can't do it." They were clearly swamped with a huge amount of business and just had to turn someone away. This is not a place that wants to hold your hand. It's an old school feeling shop. They want to figure out your problem and solve it. With people coming at them from all directions, they don't have time for a lot of chit chat. When the heat is on everybody wants a repair, NOW. They did everything they said they would do in a timely fashion. I got out of there for $131 including tax. Now that the AC works, my car feels brand new. read more

I brought in a car with an alternator that intermittently charged the battery. I figured they would go through the work-flow to diagnose the issue. They told me that I needed a new alternator, a $700 job. I told them that I needed more information than that - anything. They aggressively made their point that they were the experts and I should trust them. I've dealt with liars before, so I took the car back. They charged me $60+ for the diagnosis and $15 for charging my battery. I brought with me a voltmeter, so I looked at the charge on the battery. The battery was never charged, as it read 10.5V when I picked it up, confirming that they straight-up lied and stole my money. Since they're willing to lie about something so obvious as charging a battery, they probably lied about checking the alternator, right?. I'm not a mechanic, but I looked online for the easiest way to diagnose an alternator. I looked at the voltage between alternator output and battery terminal, and in 5 minutes realized that there was something wrong with the connections. I replaced the nut that secures the wire to the alternator and fixed the problem. That took 10 minutes and 10 cents. So, these people lied about checking the charging system, lied about charging a battery just so they can steal $85+ dollars. They tried to sell me the most expensive repair and even told me that they can only put on the most expensive alternator. I never post reviews, but these guys are so out there, that I felt it was responsible to report them. I really hate posting this. UPDATE: They called to apologize and return my money. I appreciate small businesses and would like to give them a chance. read more

Took my car into Acme Electric for a blower fan module, they quoted me $407 which seemed high but I agreed. After doing the work they forgot to mention the tax which added another $50 to the quote. They also agreed to fix the tail lights but after the car was returned I noticed the mechanic missed one of the taillights. After I called them to fix this minor detail the old man got ugly and insisted the mechanic never makes a mistake and the bulb must have burned out in the short time the car was returned and they are far too busy. All their manners and goodwill flew out the window once they had my money. Truthfully the module for the heater fan sells for $136 at Walmart and the labor taking out the module and snapping in a new one must have taken them all of 10 minutes. They showed their true colors. Sure enough, they figured out what was wrong and instead of trying to persuade me to spend the money to fix it, let me know they agreed and supported my decision to not put any more money into this car. They had even taken photos of the ruined wires to show it to me and thoroughly explain the problem! They did all of this in just a few hours instead of a longer wait time, and, because they diagnosed it so quickly, they didn't even charge me. My '97 F-250 HD wouldn't start one morning. I thought it was the ignition switch so I replaced it...nope. A friend of a friend who works on car as a hobby suggested, since my battery was 5+ years old, I replace it...nope. So I searched YELP and discovered ACME Auto Electric. I filled out an online appt. form on Sunday and they replied by phone, per my request, within an hour or so after they opened for business the next day. I wrote on their form I had to have the truck towed. They said no problem. After keeping the truck overnight Eric called to give me an update. He said he knew the second he tried the key that some levers inside the steering column needed to be replaced. The parts were readily available and would have the truck repaired. He called later that day to say the truck needed another part to repair the turn signal/hazard lights and needed my permission to go ahead. Wednesday morning about 11AM they called to say the truck was done. Total was just north of $600.00, about a car payment. Thanks guys for being up front, honest, professional and reliable. Great service - Acme identified the problem, then fixed it on time and at the price quoted. I noticed that my air conditioning was not as cool as it should be and a few days later, the compressor stopped coming on altogether. I called Acme and Eric offered to have me come in the next day and told me that they could do the diagnosis while I waited. I made an appointment for 10:00 AM. I showed up, Eric explained the most likely cause of the problem, quoted a price to fix it and told me it would take about an hour. It turned out Eric was right, the car was just low on refrigerant. They inspected the system for leaks, added refrigerant and measured the air temperature at the vent to verify everything was working as it should be. They did a great job and finished up in about 50 minutes. I'm glad that Acme is honest and started by looking at the least expensive option first. They diagnosed the problem correctly, charged me what they quoted and finished on time, as promised. It was a great experience. read more

I remember bringing my car to Acme Auto Electric for a new battery and they ordered the wrong battery size. I had to wait in the waiting room for almost three hours while they ordered a new battery... They offered nothing for the inconvenience by the way. I was driving my the same day after they finally finished! I started to get on the I-5 freeway ramp when the hood of my car began to smoke. I luckily had time to pull over and when I did my car burst into flames! I had it towed back to Acme Auto and Electric for the company to do an investigation, but they were cold, rude, and would not look at my car. Great experience for me. Went in with the brush block from my tractor starter, which had fried a brush lead. The starter is a Hitachi from very few applications, and parts for it are scarce. They were very busy when I walked in, and it took a loooong time to speak to one of the two guys working the counter. While I was waiting, I noticed a sign above the counter that posted the hourly rate for labor ($95) and the minimum labor charge ($59). I showed my smoked parts to the counter guy, and he looked up the starter number, determining that no parts were listed for it, that they could just try to match the brushes up with items in stock. However he said they couldn't get to it that day. I told him I could leave it and come back. He considered this for a minute, then called a guy in from the back, giving him instructions on what to do with my part. It seems they were suddenly going to fix it on the spot. There was a fresh copy of the Seattle Times in the waiting area, right beside a well-worm but comfortable lazy-boy recliner. So I sat down and proceded to read the paper. I didn't get very far. The repair was done in under 10 minutes and the brush block came back looking brand new. They had media-blasted it, soldered in new brushes and painted it with a rust-preventative spray. Then the bill--$25.00. I was dumbfounded. The work was quick, efficient and inexpensive. And beyond my expectations in terns of timeliness. I had been fully prepared to drop it off and come back at a later date to get it (roundtrip drive from Renton-- 45 min each way) Not only did they give me a great service at an incredible price, but they saved me a LOT of time too, by giving me a quick trunaround.
