This has been my go-to car maintenance place for years. They are honest, straightforward and help me keep my older car on the road.

I want to share my experience with Acme Auto Repair. I own a 1955 Chevy show truck. I brought it in to have a stainless steel gas line installed. I needed this completed for a car show over the Father's Day weekend in Calistoga. I noticed some classic cars parked outside of this shop, so I took the chance. I purchased the new gas line, fittings, and a rubber flexible line that connects the gas tank line to the new fuel line that runs along the frame rails. I informed the shop that I wanted the new gas line to run parallel with the vacuum advance line, which is located at the front of the engine. When I was told the truck was ready for pickup, the office manager informed me that a new fitting was purchased for the connection of the fuel line and gas tank. I asked why the flexible line was not used, and she said, "Ken did not know where to connect that flexible line." This is the point I was concerned. When my truck was picked up and brought to me, I noticed the new gas line was bent under the cab and redirected along the engine block. This line is fabricated to match the original line route, designed in 1955. Now Ken bent it and changed the design. I spoke to Ken, and he said he would bend this line back. I know about fuel lines, especially stainless steel; you are not able to bend it and replicate the original straight line (try to remove a wrinkle out of foil paper). At the car show, a few car builders asked me about the fuel line and why I ran it along the engine block, and how it should have run down the frame rails and then 45 degrees towards the gas pump. When I asked them if the line could be bent back, they smirked and said," NO". Now I am out $72.95 for the line and $238.00 for the labor. Acme Auto may perform good work on other cars, but do not take your classic vehicle for detailed work. Went there with a coupon for a great price on an Allignment. I didn't catch his name unfortunately but there was a very nice lady running the office and another gentleman running shop with a couple other mechanics there. The guy who did the alignment on my 2001 Silverado 2500 went wayyyy above and beyond. Unfortunately my front end is shot after 260,000 miles of hard work. He literally spent hours doing his very best to get it as close as possible. I knew the front end needed work. I was just trying to save my next set of tires. He took the time to discuss options and show me where we landed on the toe, camber, caster etc. Showing what he tried to do to get it as close as possible. He couldn't make it right but they were upfront, honest and i definitely got my moneys worth. They honestly should have refused to do it. They've earned a customer for life. Gave him a little tip which was well deserved As a mechanic myself working my own vehicles and owning a race car I knew he was on the up and up from the very beginning. Unfortunately we had a very bad experience with them. Brought in for a check engine light which they reported they fixed, drove 5 miles and check engine light back on. Found their tools still pinching off the fuel return line and then the fuel pump was reading poorly. Returned for it to be looked at which in turn cost additional money and approximately 4 weeks of having vehicle to only have the check engine light still on. Only to say, they would do additional work to eliminate possible reasons. Could have went through the elimination process on my own. Needless to say, vehicle was not repaired and the check engine light remains on and now the vehicle making additional noises prior to being left at shop. Would not recommend this shop to anyone for a correct diagnostic and repair. read more

We have a small fleet of commercial vehicles and trucks. We had a bad batch of spark plugs installed on one of our vehicles. Shannon and Ken were right on top of it and never questioned doing as a warranty repair. At this point we trust them so much we just take them in without questioning the price. I don't know what to say, this guy is a human being and I just know he is an honest one. I have been to his shop for two small things and both times he was a big help. I know how to work on cars and I do all of my own repairs because I just don't trust people working on my vehicles. Now, today this will be the only shop I will trust for my vehicle repairs. Found this auto repair on google maps and I'm glad I did! Scheduling an appointment online was easy, you pick the date and time, you also choose an alternate just in case and you get notified by email or text of your appointment. You can also call direct and schedule as well, Shannon is very helpful and pleasant as well. Been going to the dealer for service and they're nothing but headaches; 2-3 hours for a basic oil change with an appointment is ridiculous! NO MORE! This is my new auto repair shop and encourage anyone to give them a try! My oil change was cheaper than the dealer and oil change shops! Thank you Acme!! read more

Terrible experience, will not be back. Brought a coupon for an oil change which included "complimentary tire pressure check and rotation". However, when I got there the receptionist stated that the price would be more than the coupon stated. She then proceeded that the price comes with the complimentary pressure check and rotation. I'm sorry but if you are charging me $20.00 more than the coupon had stated it is not complimentary. Don't be fooled by the coupon, I advice you to take your business to another mechanic who actually follows their coupon. (Furthermore, I spoke to a man who had referenced me this mechanic and he said he received the price stated on the coupon. Ken and Shannon go the extra mile to make sure that their customers are properly cared for. I went to them for an oil change and had a feeling there might be other things that needed fixing as well. Without prompting, Ken came back and told me that my brakes were getting low and that my rack and pinion was leaking. I have been getting my oil changed at another place in San Francisco before I moved out here and they never once mentioned anything that needed fixing! They just wanted me in and out. With Ken and Shannon, it is a very personal experience and Ken looks out for you when it comes to keeping up on your auto. Would highly recommend! read more

Acme Auto Repair is excellent, When someone referred me I was surprised to see the shop because I had overlooked it for years because I had not turned my head to the right on Clayton Road. I have been a customer for at least 10 years. I had been going to the dealership for necessary work. I didn't know that Acme can do all the repairs needed on your car from birth to death. Acme can do all the work on your car contract better than your car dealership. Please check out Acme, The staff is easy to talk to (I am an elderly female which usually signals dumb) to most car repair, even the dealerships. I was given wrong diagnosis for a water pump issue. Brought it back for a timing chain and they wanted to charge me $3600.00 for the work when it only cost me $1600. I went back to question why they charged so much. There head mechanic called me a stupid nigger. Worst shop on the planet. read more

My son has used these guys a couple of times with mixed results. they also have an annoying habit of charging you for diagnosis -AND- the repair. typically when you elect to do the repair you aren't again charged for the diagnosis, which btw was extremely high anyway. When confronted with this fact they became indignant and all customer service skills went out the window. last time i checked customers we're important and without them you wouldn't have a business but maybe that's just me. these guys seem to do ok work on easy things. harder things to diagnose don't seem to interest them. maybe they have more work than they can handle. You're mileage might vary but i would be very cautious dealing with this place. read more

The people here are lousy, and they seem to do fine work, but only after they put you in a position where you have no choice. I had my car towed there at the advice of a friend. The rack and pinion (if I'm spelling that correctly) had broken and my steering was completely destroyed. The shop diagnosed the problem and gave me a $1600 figure for getting it fixed. I approved the work and they told me it would be a couple days. Well, the day I should have gone to pick it up, they called and told me that it would be an additional $800 for a part they didn't know was broken. They said the clock spring in the steering wheel was damaged and had to be replaced. I asked why I wasn't told this in the first place, as the new cost of repairs made my car financially totaled and I would not have had ANY repairs done had I known. The mechanic actually told me that even though it was a steering problem, he had never bothered to actually check the steering column when they did my diagnosis. I was livid, and I asked them to only do the original $1600 worth of work. They told me that they could, but my car wouldn't be drivable until I payed them the other $800. So they scammed me out of $800, and I have my doubts that it ever even needed a new clock spring anyhow. All said and done, I was forced to spend $2500 on a car worth $2000. On top of all that, when my boyfriend and I went down there to physically see what was going on, the mechanic (Ken, I believe) started yelling at us and tried to provoke a physical fight with my boyfriend. Terrible experience never go again would not recommend total crooks went in to get my a/c fixed on my car. Made an appointment in advance told them I could only drop it off after 2:30 and when I got there they told me they couldn't start till tomorrow off I though I had an appointment. Took them two days two fix my a/c or so I thought two days after barely any driving and it stopped working brought it back and they wouldn't give me a refund and would only fix it for more money total scam. read more

We drive all the way to Acme Auto from San Jose for anything that happens to our vehicles that isn't DIY fixable. We'll even go so far as to have it towed there. The great service and staff and prices make it more than worth it. WERE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR A DEAL! Since moving to San Jose, our family had a hard time finding reliable auto shops with acceptable pricing and no language barriers. After shopping around here, it wasn't long before the clear choice was to return to the service we knew would come through for us! I went in here just for a smog. I had a coupon from the Value Book thing in the mail. Nice $40 final price. Its odd, I read reviews I felt for this place and it was on Market and had 5 stars, but when I drove down Market and could't find it I realized it was up by Big 5. I called ahead and the lady said 4. I showed up. She was okay, not a happy camper but who would be when working around the sounds of impact guns in a non insulated office that has low ceilings. The best part was walking to Big 5 finding a sweater on sale and the Alpine single serving pumpkin pie I got. I wish I could leave a lower rating. Few things : 1) I needed 3 things done, apparently, two of which were the front and back brakes. I elected to go with the first fix and do the rest myself. They charged me for the diagnostics done for the brakes despite them saying I was only going to be charged partially for those diagnostics. Never heard of a place charging for diagnostics when work was done to a car until I came here. 2) They told me I needed both front and back brake pads replaced. This was certainly true of the front but the rear wasn't even pads, it was a drum with shoes which tells me that they didn't even friggin' look. And again, they charged me for "looking" So they overcharge me by charging for diagnostics, and they don't do work they say they do, from where I sit. At first I thought these folks were straight-shooters but apparently not. I will not be going back. Even if they offered some free work next time I still do not trust them. Bad business. read more

I went to Acme for the first time and was very impressed. I needed to get caught up on maintenance and was prepared to do the major maintenance as *recommended* by Acura. Instead, Acme suggested I come in for an oil change and full inspection. So instead of blindly spending on unnecessary repairs, they were able to save me significant money by fixing just those items that needed repair. Tried to repair a part that I thought was easy, to install because of a check engine light was on, but in doing that I broke one of the vacuum Evap lines. Took it to Acme explained what happened they replaced that line and reset the code for a very reasonable price...this shop is the one to have repairs done....been taking our vehicles for a few years and Will not go to any other shop...Very Honest and prices are in line with other shops but quality of their work is excellent... read more

I know they opened the Hood-I went to Hichcock Auto 10 mins later after picking up Auto- & had to push the Hood back Down No call until 1540 Hrs- They could have requested to Steam Clean-BUT wanted $84.90 for WANTED EVER- they did. We have been customers of Acme since we'll before it was Acme. Through many years and many cars, I can't say enough about how valuable it is to have a mechanic that you can trust. I wrote a review for Acme in 2011 and all that I said then still holds true. Ken is 200% behind his work. If something fails, he fixes it. Acme is Diamond Certified and has an A+ rating with Better Business Bureau. It's easy to get upset if your car is broken. It's even easier to get upset when more is wrong than what initially appeared. Is it fair to blame the mechanic because something else is broken? Not really. Beware, went in for alignment. While inspecting the car was I need new shims & rear camber bolt. Odd, although monitor reading were all green. Cost was high to replace, so got second opinion. guess what, shims & camber bolt we're fine and a minor adjustment in alignment is all it took. Wow! Sounds like something of a pattern here!! Sorry I couldn't have talked to you before you decided on Acme. I would have warned you! Funny you mention the radiator issue. I left a detailed review on Yahoo maps, but it has since disappeared. Here we go! I had been a loyal customer of Acme for about a year. I had used them exclusively for repairs on our three cars, to include the restoration of my sports car. I had paid them several thousands dollars for work completed. Work I thought was being completed properly. My wake up call came when they replaced the radiator and brakes on our Altima. My wife picked up the car while I stayed and discussed future work on my sports car. Less that 15 minutes after she left the business, while I was still talking to Keith, my wife called and told me the car started smoking as she drove into the driveway. Long story short, Ken came out the next morning and looked at the car. The radiator had broken clean off right where the hose clamp was secured. It was quite obvious (to everyone but Ken) that the mechanic had tightened the clamp too tight. Obvious or not, Ken tried to convince me that the radiator just broke and that it was going to do that anyway. He would not take any responsibility and charged me full price for the repair. Even when I told him I would take my business elsewhere, he refused to accept responsibility. Great customer service! Since then, the same brakes have needed to be replaced (within 1000 miles), as well as several items that were repaired on my sports car. Typically, I would have returned the car to Ken and had him fix his lousy work. However, I care about the safety of my family too much to allow him to touch any one of my cars again. Others out there, take warning. I choose this facility because it was Diamond Certified. Believe me. That means nothing at all. I complained to DC and they didn't do anything. Found out about this auto-shop from my neighbor. She said this is a "family-operated business who have many years of experience. I trust them b/c they are honest and not in for the money." I'm really lucky to have such a great neighbor and my brother (who advised me to get a tune up too). I met Shannon (who works at the front desk) and explained what happened: my 2004 convertible Ford Mustang's "Engine Service Soon" light was blinking while I was accelerating on the highway. As soon as I was at a complete stop, my car was shaking strongly. As I try to accelerate again, my car does not want to go any faster, and the noise sounded more loud than usual--like a Chopper. Other drivers had to pass me, and I turned on my emergency-lights. The smell of gas was very strong too when I started my car this morning. Shannon was asking me more Q's to understand more and paraphrase into auto-tech jargons--which I liked. Shannon asked me about my schedule and turned out my car needs to stay with them. I got a Lyft home and continued on with my errands. Shannon called me about 3hrs later to give me the auto-tech's diagnosis and estimate. Turned out my bro was right, I did needed a tune up, replace the ignition coil, etc... Another 2hrs passed and Shannon called that my car is fixed. I was so happy to drive again. Not only is my Mustang fixed, it actually feels better than normal. For a lack of a better word--SMOOTH!!! I told Shannon that I'm thankful to find a designated auto shop that I can trust and depend on to get it's maintenance. Had a good experience. His prices are excellent. He only charged me $25 to empty out my a/c system, and then only charged me $117 to recharge the system again. I had put the wrong o-ring on the pressure line near the condenser, but he did not charge me extra to help me get the right one on so the system wouldn't leak. I would recommend him. My Daughter took her 2004 Toyota Tacoma truck in for an AC tune up on a $29.95 coupon and was told that it would be $130 to recharge her AC system. She left her truck with them for 2 1/2 hours and when she came back was told that her AC condenser was shot and that it would be $640 to replace it. I told her to forget that and she took her truck to MTZ Auto repair the next day and they recharged her AC in 1 hour and it only cost $60. I think the Guy at Acme is a crook, and I will never go there again. read more

So i've been having problems with my battery...after a couple jump starts i took it here without a appointment and they tested it and then tightened the terminals....both for free which was pretty sweet! if i have anymore problems i'm definitely going here again :) read more
