I was greeted right away by a friendly gentleman who answered my questions and took my order. I got an iced Mexican mocha and a ham and cheese croissant. I stopped here to grab a cup of pour over coffee on my way to Elkhorn Slough. Unfortunately my first experience was tarnished by the hazardous step one has to encounter while entering the place. I am sorry but there is no excuse to have a hazard like that other than the owners don't give a shit about their customer's health. I happen to see out of only one eye and have no depth perception. On top of that, the sign warning you is small and customers waiting for their coffee stand in front of the sign and also block your view of the hazard until it is too late. The trip would not have been so bad if I was not already experiencing excruciating leg pain from a bout I was having with my sciatica, arthritis and tendinitis in my legs. I am sorry but there is no excuse for something like this. We don't live in Mexico. If you really gave a FF about your customers you would have done something about it long ago. Get a fricking clue. On the positive side, the pour over coffee was awesome! They had a nice variety of coffee beans to choose from and other than ignoring my fall, the employees seemed friendly and very helpful in my decision making process. I ended up trying the 90 Weight which was one of the best cups of coffee I have had in a long time. This is not the kind of place to sit and read, do your homework, or play on your laptop. Absolutely delicious. Double check the hours as they were closed on Sundays when we were there. We went on a Saturday and it was slamming. Parking - Jsut take it easy and slow in case there's a lot of activity. They stopped doing drip coffee at some point in the morning so we got pour over which of course is a supreme adoption all the time. This place is super cute, but kinda hard to find for me! It's in between a triangle of streets that if you turn the wrong way, you miss. Anyway, I got a Mexican mocha and it was really flavorful and strong. I think it's also because they make each cup individually to maximize the flavor. I wanted a quick iced coffee in the afternoon and landed on this place as it was closest to me and had great reviews. The cashier was super friendly and helpful when I asked questions about the menu. This is our favorite go-to coffee stop. It's a grab and go coffee shop with stellar coffee. They have coffees of all varieties including great decaf options. They have great service and even know us by name now. Acme Coffee Co. Worth it: 4/5 Yeah. The coffee is delicious here. The baristas are friendly and really into their craft. The coffee shop practices sustainability and it used to be an old garage which makes for some really cool pictures. There's not a lot of seating and there's no Wi-Fi so it's not the ideal place to hangout or get work done. Coffee Presentation 4/5: I've been here several times and my coffee always comes out to go style. If I order something hot with milk it comes out with some type of latté art. Ambiance 5/5: This place has a grunge, punk/rock kind of vibe. It's primarily bright orange, steel, and white with bold black lettering on various points of the building that states "Resist Corporate Coffee". Service 5/5: The service is always really good. The staff is always really open to talking about the coffee they offer and customizing it for you. I've found the staff to be super personable and they make you feel like they care about you having a nice day and drinking great coffee. read more

Coffee is great but in the two times I have been one of their baristas is rude and hostile towards customers. My first experience she was rude to a customer in front of me. My friend and I had to think about even giving them our patronage after seeing how poorly they treat their guests and the second time I was spoken too in such a rude way I wanted to turn around and leave. Sadly I won't be going back in fear of encountering that barista and her hostile attitude. read more

Love finding local coffee places with amazing-tasting drinks. Would highly recommend if you're in the area. Parking is small and there aren't really places to sit, but great for to-go. Stopped here on the way to the highway as we left for home and was very pleased with the pour over coffee they made me. I asked for medium roast and got something very nice served very hot and could even put in just the right amount of cream. Since the pandemic many places don't allow customers to touch the cream/milk vessels. I have had so many over-applications that I ask for black coffee now when I cannot handle to milks myself...but I digress. The almond milk latte for my wife and the apple fritter were also met with approvals. A WC would be nice but perhaps there is no space for that. read more

I had the worst americano here. It tased like hot water. Everyone else in my party of 4 liked their drink, so I went back to change my order. I ordered a cappuccino this time and handed back my americano to Steven, the cashier, because I didn't want to throw away a full drink in their trash. I explained to Steven I was paying for another drink but this was the worst americano I ever had. He was defensive and condescending. Instead of apologizing and comping my drink he decided to explain what an americano is. When I told him I was well aware how an americano is made and order them regularly, he asked how the americano is made at the places I liked. I explained the same way as he was describing but the coffee flavor is strong and powerful not inexistent like Acme's. Despite my horrible experience with Steven and the Americano, the cappuccino was delicious. read more

I can't get enough. It's been over 10 years since Amber served my first ACME beverage. More recently, it feels like an addiction. And frankly, I'm fine with that. Throughout the years, staff have always been personable and respectful. I love starting the day with a latte, and some Parker Lusseau or Ad Astra pastries. The pour overs are also excellent. The complimentary taster with the purchase of a pound of coffee is most enjoyable. It's fun to explore different beans and roasts. Rising above just exceptionally tasty coffee, the community that comprises ACME is why I come back. It's not describable in a mere review. I think it's important to recognize that most patrons seem to understand social distancing and proper mask use. Staff are always wearing masks and I feel safe here. That said... You've gotta support small local businesses, especially when they have a great product/service. I love their coffee and appreciate that they're open early so I can stop by before work. It's also a plus that I can grab a donut (supplied by Red's- best in the area). If you're looking for fru fru Starbucks style coffee this isn't the place for you. But if you appreciate a good cup of coffee then definitely hunt down this shop and grab a cup. I'm not a big coffee fan but can drink this black, it's that good. It's a little hard to find at first but worth it. The best approach is to go from Broadway Ave., turn on Contra Costa St., and you'll see a warehouse looking building with an awning on the right. It's a small parking lot but there's spaces on the street too. And please pay attention to the signs, one way is the entrance (off Contra Costa St.) and the other way is an exit (side street). read more

We love coffee and when we visit a new place, we always check out any local coffee shops. We made it to Acme with 2 mins to spare on a Saturday afternoon. There is a small parking lot for about 7 cars but ample street parking. It was a warm day so we decided to order a Vietnamese coffee for myself and hubby ordered an iced mocha. We also ordered a hot mocha for later. Total spent was $16. These drinks are stiff! Wow!!! The customer service is friendly and they get a lot of regulars. This coffee roaster has a window where they serve individual cups. Over a couple of days I tried the Mexican and standard mochas, both of which were not overly sweet and had a nice balance between coffee and chocolate. The baked goods are fantastic--donuts from Red's Donuts and flaky pastries from another local spot. There's nowhere to sit, just a couple of places to stand, so it was impressive that both times I came there were big crowds standing and drinking. read more

Amazing coffee I got the Vietnamese coffee and a chai latte two of my favorite drinks and both came out superb. The only problem I did have was I asked for extra sweetened in my chai and I had to add sugar still but the barista was super nice. Would have also liked if they took tips with Apple Pay or card and not only cash tips. The people or customers I should say seemed a little judgy or more like it was a local only spot even tho I'm a local just not a regular but some of them seem really sweet overall good ambiance. I recommend getting the Vietnamese Iced Coffee. It was one of the best coffee drinks I've ever had. I always have to check out local coffee shops when I travel. When I come back to the Monterey area, I will definitely come back. One important thing to note is that this place is in an old garage, so it doesn't have any indoor or outdoor seating.
