As a long time former resident when i now travel home to Akron one of the things I look for is my wonderful old time grocery standard, Acme. I am so disappointed in today's shopping trip. My first impression was that it was no longer the clean standard, of my memory. The parking lot has debris blowing around. The store floors seemed dingy and had many repairs with metal plates and awkwardly uneven for cart rolling. My first employee experience was a nice lady in the Deli department. She was alone and seemed genuinely interested in waiting on folks but it was clear to see she was overwhelmed with busy. The store had bagged cold cuts in racks which i eventually took some because the wait was too long. As i left a woman was screaming at her, begging for broccoli salad. (I actually thought that was kind of funny) Wandering around the store i found many items abandoned in random places. (I also saw so much of that, it also made me laugh) Eventually I arrived in the booze section and i can attest this section was clean with fully stocked shelves. I feel as though this is clearly the priority section. The checkout went smoothly, (Jarod very nice fellow) and they still have my Acme card on file. conclusion: I'm sad to say this place isn't what it once was read more

Acme Stores have steadily declined. Sale items are never in stock, the staff are not helpful and they have offers that you are unable to get. They hire kids & seniors, part time, so they don't have to pay for holidays & insurance. Small vendors have to wait for payment of product and services. The store in Tallmadge is horrible, always check your receipt. read more

I was in the store yesterday and I was disgusted at how they only had self checkout available for customers. Never mind the customers that are disabled, elderly, or needed assistance with checkout. They had to stand in the 30 person line (literally wrapped around the aisle) and wait. Customer service refused to checkout customers and no one was called to the registers to ring. There are other grocery stories in the area that value customers and offer better service- Giant Eagle, Whole Foods, and Mustard Seed. Shame on you Acme. For as high as the prices are, you should be able to hire more teenagers since that seems to be most of the staff there during my visit. read more

First time coming here in my life. I've never heard of an Acme grocery store in my life especially since I live in the Chicago area. This store is definitely newer! It has such easy access parking. The skylights inside this place is beautiful! Prices are cheap! In comparison, this place is like shopping at a high end Jewel - Osco. The alcohol selection is outstanding! This grocery store has a great customer service desk, average vegan and healthy options. Friendly staff! Wide, spacious aisles. After moving back to NE Ohio from the coast, I had some difficulty adjusting back to local grocery stores' produce, cleanliness, and worker helpfulness. I would ask for tahini and they'd look at me like a crazy person. Combine that with worker and supply shortages, and it's a pretty sad situation. You can alleviate some of that at high-end health food grocers (you know the ones), but who can afford that regularly? Acme is my new jam. Fresh produce, helpful workers, clearly marked shelves, clean and bright. There were still some empty shelves, but I found everything I needed, including some rarer international and natural items. Why, why, why, in this day and time when grocery stores charge extremely high prices for less product than you used to get, would Acme Fresh Market put out a coupon that's only good at one of their stores?! Just shopped at the Acme on Bailey Road, pulled out my $15 off $50 or more coupon, only to find it was good only for the Acme on State Road. And, yes, when the very nice cashier pointed that out to me, I realized I could have seen it, too. But when you get a coupon that says "Acme" and "$15 off" in nice, big print, you don't notice the smaller print that restricts it to one of the many Acme stores in this area. I have been shopping at Acme since moving here in 1999. My favorite store or was. I have been noticing lately that they have a lot of expired products on their shelves. I sent my partner to buy some Apple cider to make barbecued pulled pork and not thinking he didn't look at the expiration date. In his defense though you wouldn't think a main grocery store would have expired Apple cider on their shelves . Needless to say after 3 of us getting sick and my 19 year old refusing to eat his because he said it was nasty, I found the culprit. Went to get the Apple cider out to drink the rest and when I opened it, it smelled bad. It expired February 13 and we bought it on the 20th. Anyone who knows anything about Apple cider knows Apple cider does not have a long shelf life after the sell by date. Come on Acme, you have to do better. read more

The store manager Jim Pearl was extremely rude to me, he first walked off and shook his head when I asked him a question and then I asked again and he answered in a patronizing voice - speaking to me as if I were stupid. I was nothing but kind to this man and he was very unfriendly and mean to me. Normally I don't let this bother me but it seemed very uncalled for and unreasonable for him to treat me in this manner. Very nice grocery store, I stopped in to pick up a few things to take back to the hotel I was staying in. The interior was very clean and the outside has a spacious parking lot that is well lit at night. I didn't have any issues during this visit and certainly nothing to complain about. I thought the checkout was a breeze and the checker was very nice - I also like the fact that they have a Ohio Lottery Vending Machine what more could one want. Whatever you do, don't ever go for the pick-up or delivery option they offer. They mess up EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Not to mention, the pick up experience is awful. They make you wait for 30 or 40 minutes. Walmart pick up is a matter of 5-10 means TOPS. So useless. read more

They lost me today. I ordered curbside and the order was Ok. An item was wrong and customer service girl kept walking away when it was my turn. I just wanted to exchange the item for another item (regular vs. diet) and they were the same price. It would have been easy. I went to a clerk and asked her if I could just exchange them. She pointed me back to customer service and when I got there, the girl walked away again and didn't make eye contact nor did she say she'd be right with me. At that point, two men without masks came and stood six inches from me. I just set my bag with purchased merchandise on the ground and fled the store. I was in the store today picking a few things in the baby isle. I picked up a jar of baby food and a piece of glass on the lid of the jar cut my finger. I went to customer service and was given a paper towel. The manager was called who gave me a bandaid and took the jar off the shelf. He offered peroxide then said it wasn't in the first aid kit. We ordered the Acme Thanksgiving Meal for the first time ever and we will NEVER get it from Acme again! We paid 100.00 for what was supposed to feed 10 people. This amount of food MIGHT feed 10 toddlers! The mashed potatoes came in a factory sealed plastic pillow type container. Looks like it is some sort of leftover 1940s war time soup kitchen potatoes. As far as grocery stores go in the greater Akron area, Acme #1 is ahead of the pack. The place is clean and well managed, the produce is generally of good quality, and the selection of other foods is wide and deep. But the kicker, for me, and the reason I shopped there when I lived in Akron, was the beer selection. It's easily the best in the area. They have rows of all the standard American swill, but they've also got this massive enclave of imports and craft beers that made my late college experience a massive one. We would go in there with handbaskets and just pick from the shelves like we were picking apples off of trees. "OOH! Look at this one! And THIS ONE!" Try it out. You'll like it. read more

BUT, when going to Giant Eagle could easily be a 20 minute drive with all the stop lights, I am stuck with Acme. 3 things I hate about this store: 1. Small with weird layout. 2. The people. I think people are just cranky because it's impossible to move around in this store when busy. Also, the parking lot and bad Akron drivers= me with no hair. The old people who write checks. Acme #1 is a part of my childhood so I may be biased, but I will try to give my grown up opinion. Produce section is kept pretty fresh and associates are always helpful. The pharmacy is friendly and has a bench for you to wait. The bakery has standard grocery store baked goods. However the angel food cake, apple mini Danish, and muffins hold a special place in my heart. You can still write a check here and get stamps at the check-out. Acme doesn't have fancy things, but I think the folks that go to Acme just want their "Five Alive" and Oatmeal. read more

Acme Fresh Market - Acme Pharmacy - Grocery Near Me - Akron, Ohio

Meh. This is a pretty run of the mill supermarket. It's got a ton of square feet. This is beneficial in ways. For example, the beer and wine, though not especially well organized, IS especially well stocked. A craft beer lover would be a lot more at home here than at some other supermarkets. The house brand (Food Club) is nothing special. It's fine in many cases, but I'm used to buying mostly house brand goods, and some of the Food Club stuff makes me weary (mostly perishable items like cheese). Produce is hit or miss. The quality varies, and whether or not they have it in stock can be a gamble for out-of-season items. While you might usually be able to find something year-round at another supermarket, there's no guarantee you'll be able to find it at Acme. All-in-all, this place works. It's the closest supermarket to highland square (and so sad that the residents of that neighborhood effectively live in a food desert). They have big wooden crates of sale items tossed in aisles - kind of annoying, but whatever. The prices do seem fair, I can't fault them on that. read more

This is our neighborhood grocery store. Measuring a mere 1/4 mile from our home, I honestly frequent this store more often than anyone should have to. The staff are incredibly friendly although I've seen some rough patrons in here a time or two. The beer selection is larger than average as is the selection of organic goods. Seasonal fruits and veggies are always abundant and fresh, as well - the selection of apples is always good so you don't have to pick between Red and Yellow Delicious only. The meats are average, however, and the _fresh_ seafood selection is weak. All in all, this is a good place to have so close and I'll see you another 5 times next week. read more

This review is strictly based on my experience at the Pharmacy. Our health plan makes us fill our regular prescriptions at CVS -- so I use CVS when I have to and my experience with them is that I am bothering them. They are less than helpful. However, a couple of years ago, a receptionist at a doctor's office told me that she always dealt with Acme pharmacy and she was pleased, so I started using Acme in Stow whenever I could. I have always been pleased. Prescriptions are ready when they say they'll be ready. I like the little touch of them giving me a bottle of water with my filled prescription, and I like that after 10 filled prescriptions, you get a coupon for discounted shopping in the store. I wish I could deal with only this pharmacy all the time! read more

Went to the new awesome Acme #1 today- the remodel is terrific and they haven't even finished yet. The selection is really great- I was planning on a separate trip to the Asian market, but they had everything I needed there (green papaya & bean sprouts). Not a good experience nor a good selection of food compared to other grocery stores in Akron. I felt this particular store discriminates against people who use EBT cards, and will have you say aloud what type of card it is as if to shame you. That is what they did to me. No one bagged my groceries. There was 1 bagger bagging another checkout lane, then I saw another bagger walk right pass me, they didn't assist me in bagging my items, the bagger just quickly glanced and walked right past me. When the employee was done checking me out, she slowly started to bag some items as if she were waiting for me to finish bagging most of the items. When my groceries were finally bagged she said "thanks," however, that "thanks" was forced out like it had an underling negative meaning behind it, like the employee was tired of me, and thought a rude thanks would suffice. This place is awful. More expensive than giant eagle (which is really saying something), not clean, minimum variety of products in terms of both brand and flavor, and terrible customer service. Once I was looking for energy drinks, not even a specific kind just any kind, and asked literally five different employees where I might find them. The first girl at the floral shop was looking at her phone, barely acknowledged me and said she didn't know. I moved on to four more employees that simply said they had no idea. I worked in customer service for nearly a decade. When this happens, you find an answer! You ask someone you work with that knows or go out of your way to make sure the customer gets what they need! I was so appalled from this experience I didn't go in for months, until I was nearby and needed something quickly. As I expected, same terrible customer service. Cashier couldn't even be bothered to say hi to me or thank me. I'm always very nice and even chatty to customer service people. I get it when customers can be rude, really I do, but I never am! Just the minimum would be nice. I literally drive an extra 10 minutes down the road just to go to giant eagle. read more
