One of the worst grocery stores I've ever been to. All this place does now is higher, incompetent young people who have terrible customer service, and are very rude. One of their employees is an elderly lady who I saw, bringing all the carts in during this freezing weather. Well, all the young workers were inside on their phones. What a disgrace. I guess this is about as good as it gets for grocery shopping in a seasonal touristy area especially if you don't want to drive somewhere off the island. The parking situation while never atrocious is always a challenge in season because naturally the place is packed from open until close. A few other Yelpers mentioned the staff being unfriendly and after three trips during my most recent week I didn't see it. In fact I found the staff (especially the produce guy) to be more than decent and certainly better than prior visits to the now defunct Superfresh. The two obvious negatives here are that while I'm guessing the store is good enough for the year round locals, in season the aisles are very cramped for how busy the store gets because they have stuff packed very tight including an outdoor area of beach stuff and rows of various snack foods (mostly chips) right along the exterior entrance walkway. The other to be expected issue is the pricing. Clearly you're paying "island prices" which means that if it's not on sale or special it's probably a ripoff compared to what you're paying at home unless you call Manhattan or Singapore home. While it has some warts, this Acme isn't all that bad especially when you've got a rental close enough that you could either walk or make a very quick drive to get to it. read more

This store on 34th Street in OCNJ has the worst selection of brands. I understand it is a small store, but it's pretty bad when they don't even have Habbersett Scrapple, tuna in oil or even green peas to make split pea soup. Simple items. The aisles are tight and the layout makes no sense. I find myself back-tracking down different aisles and then having to back up because there is barely room for 2 carts down the aisle. And FORGET IT when summertime rolls around. It's a NIGHTMARE. read more

This is the best ACME in the whole wide world! But.... don't buy the glow in the dark ping-pong balls. They don't glow in the dark and they don't bounce. Lucy, my cat, won't even play with them. I do however recommend the reusable multi-colored ice cube balls, aisle 6 near the marshmallow/chocolate pop-tarts. At least that's where they were in September. And while you're in the store, pick up some oyster crackers. Whipping them at the sea gulls is entertaining for kids of all ages. I love this ACME because they sell fun! read more

I had $20 cash back at checkout using my debit card. I forgot to grab my change. I realized it a half hour later. Not expecting it to be there, but I called and the customer service rep. said he saw it and put it away. I was so thrilled to see there are still honest, decent people out there. Wow...talk about customer service...I purchased balloons for a birthday a few days ago and went back to re-inflate them and one escapes to the rafters. It wasn't a major thing but they were very accommodating ...not only replaced that balloon but gave me another one. read more

Don't go after Labor Day weekend. I attempted to shop there and only had three items. Two of them rang up without sale price at self checkout. I then received an error message which caused the light to blink and "help is on the way". I waited more than 10 minutes, put my items back and then went over the bridge to Shop Rite. I did hear others in line complain that there was not enough staff working that day. I guess they are cutting costs by cutting staff hours which in turn provides horrible customer service. read more

Great store. Even on busy weekends they restock during the day. Very friendly staff, Bill was very friendly and so nice today.

The prepared food section: Chicken was good. Both the heated grilled chicken was nicely seasoned and fried chicken was nice and crispy. Definitely buy either of these with their $5 combo deal! The Mac and cheese was what you'd expect for comfort food. But the potato wedges were a little bit soggy. The tuna salad was a bit sweet, but still satisfactory. read more

They started a fight with my husband in the checkout. Did not want to take their own discount card. He tried to share the policy with them as they were unknowing and instead of calling a manager, gave him a hard time. Watch your prices at checkout as the products are frequently bar coded incorrectly. They do not have self checkouts which means you really have to watch the checkers. Be careful!! read more

We visit Ocean City ALL. THE. TIME. We also LOVE ACME in our hometown. We've stopped in this ACME a bunch of times during our day trips for some last minute supplies, so we do know how much the prices are marked up due to it being a Shore/Tourist destination. However, we stopped in for a little extra sunscreen recently and found ourselves saying that we wouldn't want to stop there again. We first stopped to ask at the CUSTOMER SERVICE desk about where some items were located. The woman was rude and snippy. After we found the sunscreen, we grabbed what we wanted and headed to the checkout. The checkout girl was SO sweet and absolutely customer oriented. When she rang up our purchase, the item was far above the sticker price. When I pointed this out, she rang for someone to help. Unfortunately, it was the rude woman from Customer Service. The woman tried to tell us that our item was a certain price. We walked over to the display and pointed to where the items were, DIRECTLY above the sticker. She said, "Oh, well those items are in the wrong place." Wait. Is that MY problem??? Did I misplace the items? ACME's normal policy is to honor the price if it's their mistake. Not THIS ACME!! Don't expect any extra help or normal policies to be honored at this ACME, they won't go out of their way. I guess they just assume that since they're on the island, they don't have to act according to policy. Just be warned. read more
