When they say something is a "slice of heaven" they must have been talking about the pizza from ACME Pizza. I have had this on my list of places to go from when we lived in California and were planning on a visit (then moved here). Well I finally got the chance when we stopped here for lunch on Sunday. The owner was here, a nice woman, but I didn't get her name. The staff was very good and attentive. But the Chicago deep dish pizza....OMG, if you have never had a deep dish pizza then you are completely missing out on your pizza experience. We met up with some friends that live local, and they have not ever had deep dish...I think everyone agreed at our table this was excellent...!!! That said, Acme Pizza didn't just meet my expectations... it absolutely blew them out of the damn water. I drove about 30 minutes out of my way from Raleigh, and I'll happily keep doing it--especially for big Chicago sports moments (like a Bears playoff game... which, let's be honest, don't happen often). I'm getting serious Giordano's vibes, and I'd honestly love to hear the owner's backstory--because I find it very hard to believe some random person in NC just decided to casually start slinging Chicago-style stuffed pizza at this level. This restaurant has a nice open pizza pub vibe that is clean and well-maintained. The owner/management are visibly present and carefully overseeing the staff which is noticeable in both positive and negative ways. The food itself is a mixed bag in that there Garlic Knots are really good and their thin crust pizza is inconsistent. One time the pizza was excellent, the second time it was honestly terrible. Came here on a Sunday and the restaurant was not full at all. Nice decor for for a pizza joint. The wait staff was very friendly. We had the wings and the wedge salad and both were very good. Wings were meaty and the buffalo sauce was very good. I ordered the deep dish sausage and pepperoni and it wasn't bad but it lacked that wow flavor I was expecting. I love - and prefer- NY style pizza, but have been craving a deep dish pizza all year and this one did not disappoint! The pizza was thick and the toppings were plentiful. We found ourselves traveling through Holly Springs, and remembered that we had Acme Pizza pinned to our must try restaurant list. We quickly called them and placed a to-go order. Be aware that the deep dish pizza isn't going to be ready in 15 minutes like your everyday fast food pizza. We were given an estimate of 45 minutes, during a quiet afternoon. This also isn't going to be a $5 hot n' ready, be prepared to pay over $30 for a large deep dish pizza. The price will definitely be an issue for some people, but you can probably feed 6-8 people since it is so hearty and filling. The pizza was amazing! It was absolutely loaded with meat, veggies, cheese, and sauce! This is the best deep dish pizza that we've found here in North Carolina. Having just moved here from Chicago decided to give them a try. After reading reviews we were looking forward to a deep dish pizza. Needless to say we were very disappointed. First off crust was burnt both edges and bottom. Not sure how it happened but when we tried to serve the pizza and later when we put it away much of the bottom was stuck to the cardboard box. When it came to the taste the sauce was bland and there was way too much on the pizza. As much as they tried this cannot compare to a good Chicago style deep dish pizza.
