Very small family owned Greek restaurant in a small strip mall on busy Veterans. Restaurant has around a bakers dozen tables and a small bar and although they get very busy at times the service by this family was superior! The menu is a mixture of half Greek and Italian, when we asked the owner about this his reply was to offer families some variety, since theirs always someone who doesn't like Greek is understandable. The Greek and Ceaser salads were huge and not stingy on ingedients. I opted for a simple Gyro wrap and fries and my partner settled for the platter. My Gyro was overstuffed and delicious but coulda been better with more taziki sauce on the meat or some on the side. My partners platter was huge and the grilled vegetables had great flavor, definately not bland. our only dissapointment was the extra side of Feta cheese was very dry but the service and the food of this small family restaurant left such an impression that we would return again to eat. read more

I was craving Greek food and found this place after the gym. The service was very attentive and the atmosphere very friendly. The chicken kebabs could have been cooked a little longer but the flavor was excellent. The Greek salad had almost as much feta as the lettuce so next time I will ask them to modify it. I've been coming to Acropolis for years,but my most recent visit wasn't what I've been used to. I'm used to great service, excellent food, and very quick wait times. The small restaurant is usually packed, but I never cared about the wait or the small space because the service was so excellent and the food was delicious. Today, what we experienced was so much different. We walked in and the waitresses, who are both new, never greeted us, so we sat ourselves. After we sat ourselves, four more small parties walked in behind us and none of them were greeted as well. The waitresses started passing out menus and taking drink orders after about 10 minutes to all the tables except ours. What makes it worse is that I heard the two waitresses say " that table *pointed at ours* was here first." So, they acknowledged that we were there, but chose to ignore us, which is even worse. I finally called the waitress over and explained to her my thoughts and she said very rudely, " I'm just passing menus out to everyone." I'm sorry, but that's not how food service works. As we were eating our meal, I noticed the whole staff is new. I guess they're under new management. We personally knew the previous family that owned it and it's really a shame to see all their hard work and attention to detail and friendliness go downhill. Food was phenomenal, service was very attentive and kind, and the environment I personally like because it seems like a little, family-run establishment. Had lunch here this week and ordered one of the "SPECIALS", the fish entree. It came with soup, veggies and potato. Soup and veggies were fine but nothing to rave about. The fish was so over cooked that it was dry and inedible. Potato was microwaved. I told the server about the fish and she apologized and said if I would have told her about it sooner she would have had the chef send me out a new piece. She did not offer to take it off the bill. I called in for chicken shawarma to go. Was told they didn't have that but had grilled chicken wrap. I asked if it had tzaki sauce. She said yes, so I ordered. Very garlicky sauce, not taziki. Sooo Good! Love this place! Everything is great! The gyro is great! The moussaka is yummy! I tried their 6 onion soup the other day that was awesome and always the Greek salad is great! Their tzatiki sauce is the best I have ever had! Their vegetables are really good too. Never a disappointment. The only thing I wish is that it was slightly bigger restaurant because sometimes I can't get a table but that might take away from the charm. My wife, a New Orleans native, says this is her favorite Greek restaurant. I've been with her twice and found it to be ok. I had the gyro wrap and it was pretty average as was the calamari. She had the appetizer sampler, her standard here, and said it was delicious as always. They also had four-onion soup on the menu today which brought a big smile to her face. I've been here for lunch and dinner when I used to live in New Orleans. Each time everything was yummmyyy. My sister and I came for the gyro one afternoon and it was great. We like a good amount of the tzazki (sp?) sauce so we asked for it on the side and they brought us out a big bowl of it to split. Second time I went was for dinner and had the lamb chops, they were cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Also, they rotate their soups daily so if they have the lemon chicken soup when you go I would definitely recommend it. I was here earlier, and as soon as I walked in about 7 other tables followed- some as big as 6 people. The servers were very calm and professional. I eat here 3 or 4 times a month. I have never had a bad meal. Love the stuffed grape leaves and gyros. They have 2 different soups everyday as well as several specials. The specials are delicious! They also have individual pizzas which are terrific. Service is warm and friendly. If there is no parking in the front of the building, there is parking in the back with a door. I came here after my friend's graduation this past weekend. My other friend and I arrived about 30 minutes before my graduating friend and her family did. We ordered the fried mushrooms while we waited. They tasted just about as good as any other fried mushrooms that I have had. Once her family arrived, her dad ordered two appetizer samplers to pass around. I really enjoyed the sampler but found that they do not give you enough pita bread. It costs to order more. The food that I consumed deserves four stars. The reason that I am giving it three is because of the menu. I enjoy a nice chicken shawarma dish when I go to a Greek restaurant, but that was not on the menu. I also found it odd that dishes that come with a salad come with a casear salad rather than a greek salad. There were many options that looked good but nothing that really stuck out to me. I ended up getting an acropolis salad with grilled chicken which was a nice size and tasty. I would def come back here to try other menu items, but I would rather go to Albasha. read more

Definitely try the baba ganoush - made with breadcrumbs instead of tahini so that it's a delicious garlic paste. I first came here because a friend of mine worked there and honestly I felt I was doing him a bit of a favor by checking it out. Well it turns out it was WAY better than I had anticipated. The portions are huge and the food tastes more authentic than most Mediterranean places I've been to. It's a small, quaint, almost cafe-like little place. There is a small staff but they are ROCKING for lunch time. In fact, I had to wait on a woman to finish her meal jut to get a seat! Clearly this place is no longer a hidden secret in Metairie. The wine menu is somewhat limited but very well selected per the food. Yes, you might be packed in a stuffy little room with lots of Metairie folk.... but I guarantee you that going elsewhere would be a mistake if you want a family style Mediterranean meal. Whenever the urge for a cozy, family style, continental feel meal hits me I think of Acropolis. It's a drive for us to get there, but we gladly make the trip - and never regret it. The food is always well prepared and generous. The staff is attentive and passionate about the food. The ambience is the best you can expect from a Vets Hwy storefront. Even though thats the reason I don't give it 5 stars, the interior still is mildly elegant with table dressings and decor which help lift the place from the mundane. I love the chicken dishes with herbs and spices. The chalkboard deals are great too and may come with the best baklava I have ever eaten and a generous ceasar salad. Recently had the onion soup which arrives steam hot and topped with a delightful puff pastry cap and is, unlike the classic french type, creamy and rich.
